EPL: Salah, Son win joint golden boot award

South Korea and Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah have both won this season’s English Premier League’s Golden Boot award.

Prior to the last match of the season, Son was trailing Salah on the scorers chart with just a goal but was able to score two whilst Salah scored one to finish joint highest goal scorer with Son.

With this feat, Son becomes the first ever Asian player to win the English premier League Golden boot award.

This is the second time in many season that two or more players would win the EPL’s golden boot award.

I’m the best in the world – Salah declares

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has declared himself the best player in the world – for his position.

The Egyptian forward has just been named 2022 FWA Footballer of the Year after another impressive season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite a dip in form in recent weeks, he has netted 30 times in 48 appearances across all competitions so far this term and is currently leading the race for the Golden Boot.

“If you compare me with any player in my position, not only in my team but in the world, you will find that I am the best,” Salah told beIN SPORTS.

“I always focus on my work and do my best and my numbers are the best proof of my words.

“I like to always create a new challenge for me, to work in a different way and to make a difference and that is my duty.”

UCL: ‘We have a score to settle’ – Salah to Real Madrid

Mohamed Salah sent an immediate warning to Real Madrid after their win over Manchester City booked a Champions League final meeting with Liverpool.

Real pulled off a miraculous comeback to win 3-1 on Wednesday and 5-4 on aggregate after City claimed the first leg in England.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now face Liverpool in Paris, a rematch of the 2018 final in which Real claimed a 3-1 victory.

Salah was famously injured by Sergio Ramos in the final, and when speaking after Liverpool’s semi win over Villarreal on Tuesday, the Egyptian stated his desire to face Real once again.

Now after Los Blancos’ victory, Salah wrote on Twitter: “We have a score to settle”.

All eyes are now pointed to May 28 when the two European powerhouses face off at the Stade De France.

EPL: ‘I don’t know’ about Liverpool future – Salah admits

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has again cast serious doubt on his future at Anfield.

Salah’s future remains unclear with the impasse over a new contract still to be resolved after months of negotiations.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the 29-year-old revealed remaining at Anfield was far from a foregone conclusion but insisted money would not be a motivating factor should he decide to leave.

“I don’t know, I have one year left,” he said.

“I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.”

Regardless of the timing of his departure from Liverpool, the two-time African Player of the Year admitted leaving Anfield will not be easy.

“To play in that atmosphere and to see the fans always behind me […] I have banners in the stadium […] and they’re always singing my song,” he added.

“It’s going to be a really sad moment.”

Asked whether speculations over his future may be a source of distraction at such a delicate stage of the season, the current Premier League top scorer replied: “I’m not worried, I don’t let myself worry about something. The season didn’t finish yet, so let’s finish it in the best possible way – that’s the most important thing. Then in the last year, we’re going to see what’s going to happen.”

Salah hints at Egypt retirement after World Cup failure

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has hinted he could retire from Egypt duty after their failure to qualify for the World Cup.

The Pharaohs missed out on qualification after losing on penalties to Senegal in a play-off on Tuesday.

Speaking to his teammates in the changing room after the game, Salah appeared to suggest he had played his last game with Egypt.

“I told the players before the second match that I am proud to play with them and they are among the best I have played with,” he explained.

“I played for some time with the previous generation, with Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Abu Trika, then Abdullah Al-Saeed and his generation, but I’m happy with the current generation.

“I am proud to play with you and it was an honour for me, and what happened cannot be interfered with by anyone because for the second time it is a penalty shootout (after the AFCON final).

“There is not much I can say but it has been an honour to play with you, whether I will be in the national team after that or not.”

Penalty kick heartbreak for Salah as Senegal advance, Cameroon stun hosts Algeria

There was heartbreak for Mohamed Salah and the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday as they suffered another dramatic penalty kick shootout defeat to Senegal.

The result meant they lost out on qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup billed for Qatar in November and December.

Salah’s Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane sent Senegal through with the winning penalty kick in the shootout victory after the Egyptian missed his effort.

Hosts Senegal had recovered from a 1-0 first-leg deficit to beat Egypt by the same margin at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Dakar.

Salah, with dozens of laser pens seemingly pointing at his face, fired Egypt’s first penalty kick of the shootout over the bar.

Mostafa Mohamed later failed with the visitors’ fourth kick, allowing Mane to slam his penalty kick past Mohamed El Shenawy and seal Senegal’s progress.

It was a repeat of the west African side’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title triumph against Egypt in Cameroon last February.

There was stunning late drama in Bilda as Karl Toko Ekambi scored late in extra time to seal a 2-1 win for visitors Cameroon against Algeria.

The Indomitable Lions have now progressed to Qatar via away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

Algeria thought they had sealed a place at the World Cup when Ahmed Touba cancelled out Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s opener with two minutes remaining in extra time.

But there was just enough time left for Ekambi to seal the most dramatic of victories.

Morocco also booked their place in Friday’s World Cup draw with an emphatic 4-1 win over Democratic Republic of Congo.

A brace from Azzedine Ounahi, and goals from Tarik Tissoudali and Achraf Hakimi, sealed a 5-2 aggregate win over DR Congo, who scored a late consolation through Ben Malango.

Meanwhile, a 0-0 draw for Tunisia against Mali was enough to see the former seal their own place in Qatar after they managed a 1-0 win in the first leg.

Diaz, Salah net as Liverpool maintain relentless Man City pursuit

Liverpool maintained their relentless pursuit of Manchester City with a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion to close back to within three points of the English Premier League leaders.

The Reds lost for just the third time this term in their midweek clash with Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

But they marched on with an eighth straight league win in Saturday’s contest at the Amex Stadium.

Luis Diaz bravely headed Liverpool into a 19th-minute lead by getting in front of Robert Sanchez, who was perhaps fortunate to avoid any action for clattering into the forward.

Mohamed Salah added a second from the penalty kick spot – Liverpool’s 2,000th goal in the modern Premier League.

It helped to increase the pressure on Manchester City ahead of Monday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Brighton had gone three league games without defeat to Liverpool but fell behind in the opening quarter of the contest to Diaz’s second goal in a Liverpool shirt.

The former FC Porto winger attacked Joel Matip’s chipped pass over the top and got his head to it.

But he was unable to celebrate the goal after being wiped out by Sanchez.

Referee Mike Dean did not check back the incident on the monitor, meaning Sanchez stayed on the field, but Albion’s reprieve counted for little as Salah doubled the Reds’ lead.

Having missed a couple of presentable opportunities, the Egypt international fired a penalty kick right down the middle after Naby Keita’s shot hit Yves Bissouma on the arm.

Manchester City visit Crystal Palace on Monday.

  • How Salah can become Liverpool’s all-time great – Barnes

How Salah can become Liverpool’s all-time great – Barnes

Liverpool legend John Barnes says Mohamed Salah can be one of their best ever – if he stays.

The African star has already plundered 27 goals in all competitions for The Reds this season and is leading a four-front assault on silverware that begins with the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea this weekend.

Speaking exclusively to BonusCodeBets, Barnes said: “If Mohamed Salah stays at Liverpool for the next three or four years, then he will be one of the best Liverpool players ever.

“Equally, if he leaves after five years as Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres [did], then where would he rank?

“To be an all-time great, you must stay at a club for several years, and if Salah stays for a few more, then he would be up there with one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.

“What’s most important though, is what Mo does whilst he’s at the club. Right now, you can’t look further than the end of the season, before seeing if the contractual situation can be sorted. They can be very complicated.”

  • Salah still disappointed over AFCON 2021 final – Sadio Mane

Salah still disappointed over AFCON 2021 final – Sadio Mane

Liverpool star, Sadio Mane has revealed that his teammate Mohamed Salah is still disappointed over the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, final.

Mane said this ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League round of 16 first-leg tie against Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

Recall that Mane led Senegal to beat Egypt in the 2021 AFCON final earlier this month in Cameroon.

Mane guided Senegal to their first-ever AFCON title after scoring the winning goal against Salah-led Egypt as the Teranga Lions won 4-2 on penalties.

But when asked about Senegal and Egypt’s next meeting in a crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier next month, Mane revealed that he and Salah are not even thinking about it and they have a pact of silence when it comes to discussing the AFCON final.

“Me and Mo Salah don’t even talk about it,” Mane told the Que Golazo YouTube channel when asked about next month’s World Cup qualifier between Senegal and Egypt.

“I think that I’m still thinking about my African Cup but it’s also an important game that means a lot to me and my people.

“If we can qualify – and we will do everything to do it – it’s very important for me, my teammates and my country because it’s a really, really massive competition, which is a dream for any football player.

“We will be well prepared for it and do everything possible to win because it’s really important.”

He added: “Until now – you won’t believe me – but we haven’t talked about it, because I know he’s still disappointed for sure.”

Liverpool duo Salah, Mane to battle in AFCON 2021 final

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will go up against Reds team-mate Sadio Mane in the final of Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON after Egypt overcame the challenge posed by Cameroon in their last-four clash on Thursday.

Egypt defeated Cameroon in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

The Pharaohs will face Senegal for the coveted trophy on Sunday in a match that will see two of the Premier League’s best wingers go head-to-head for continental glory at the Olembe Stadium in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde.

Hosts Cameroon had shown more impetus in 90 minutes, twice hitting the post through Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui’s looping header and Samuel Gouet’s thunderous long-range strike, which flicked the woodwork.

Salah was kept quiet for much of the game, curling a strike from outside the area narrowly over and almost profiting from a loose back pass, but he could not convert.

But he did not have to step up in the shootout as Cameroon missed three of their efforts, with Gabaski saving from Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki, while Clinton N’Jie side-footed wide.

An ill-tempered ending to normal time had seen Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz sent off for remonstrating with the referee and his assistant Wael Gomaa cautioned too.

It means they will both be missing from the touchline for the final as Gomaa was also yellow carded in the quarter-final against Morocco.

Meanwhile, Cameroon will face Burkina Faso in the third/fourth-place play-off, which has been brought forward a day to Saturday.
