  • 300 graduates dump Ganduje’s job over meager N35,000 salary

About 300 graduates on the payroll of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service have dumped their appointments as revenue collectors due to the paltry thirty five thousand Naira (N35,000) they receive as salaries.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that this is coming barely three months after their employment. The KIRS had recruited a total of 765 graduates as revenue collectors.

The graduates maintained that the KIRS promised them better salaries and convenient working environment, thus making them to resign their former appointments which according to them was better compared to what they are now offered at KIRS.

Speaking with news men on condition of anonymity, one of the aggrieved graduates said the KIRS failed to fulfill some of the promises made to them.

Referring to the service salary scale, he disclosed that majority of them were influenced to abandon their earlier engagement and embrace the tax generation job but only to be remunerated, with N35, 000 monthly.

The source further revealed that following the autonomy attained by the KIRS, the Service offered them a better salary package than what they were earning in their former firms of engagement but sadly ended up being paid N35,000 as graduates.

However, in his reaction, the KIRS Public Relations Officer, PRO, explained that the Executive Chairman of the KIRS, Sani Abubakar Dambo is out of the state for Lesser Hajj, insisting that he (the chairman) will address the issue when he returns.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, made this known on Monday in Abuja at the public presentation of the 2017 Appropriation Act.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the 2017 budget has a total spending estimation of N7.44 trillion, with N2.99 trillion allocated to recurrent expenditure, N2.36 trillion on capital expenditure and N1.66 trillion on debt servicing.

This shows that a total of N2.16 trillion would be spent on salaries and pension alone.

Other aspect of the recurrent expenditure framework includes Overheads, N219.84 billion and N138.7 billion, for Service-wide Votes.

  • Kogi Govt not owing workers’ salaries, says Governor’s aide

Mr Gbenga Olorunpomi, the Senior Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, has said that the State Government was not owing salaries of civil servants.

Olorunpomi told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that the government had paid the salaries of all workers cleared by the recently concluded civil servants verification exercise.

“This government came to power at the time civil servants were on strike; the issue that led to the strike was that of the salaries owed to the workers for many months.

“At that time, all schools in the state were shut down; the government of Gov. Yahaya Bello then decided that the only way to tackle this was to do total civil service verification.

“In the process, we found out that the state had plenty issues; about 83,000 personnel were withdrawing salaries from the state and this is a state that is barely 25 years old.

“So there was need to do an audit to find out how we got to the situation where there were more senior than junior level civil servants; it was lopsided,” he said.

According to the aide, the issues necessitated the civil service reform which is part of the five cardinal programmes of the government.

The others, he said, are security, education, job creation and agriculture.

Olorunpomi said the exercise had been completed and the state now has a civil service that the government can manage.

“All persons that were cleared by whatever committee that was set up at the time were paid.

“We got our bailout fund to do this, we used the resources that came in from FAC allocation and we have been paying salaries since then.

“Whatever noise we are hearing now is either by those who are yet to be cleared or those who have benefited from the system of inefficiency in the past.

“Anyone who has been certified cleared has been paid salary.

“To prove our point, we published the names and amounts paid to all workers, ministries, departments and agencies in the state’s website, www.kogistate.gov.ng.

“The website will show you all the amount of monies paid to workers as salaries, pension and other entitlements since the inception of this government in January 2016 to date.

“As I speak with you now, Kogi state is moving ahead to a better future,” he said.

  • May Day: We’ll clear 4months salary arrears, Ajimobi assures Oyo workers

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has promised to spare no effort in ensuring that the state clears the four months outstanding salaries of workers in the state.

Ajimobi urged the workers to continue to put in their best and key into the state government’s reform agenda aimed at enhancing productivity.

I congratulate the entire workforce in the state, including those in the private and informal sectors.

This year’s workers day has provided another opportunity for you all to take stock and assess your performance.

I can say without any equivocation that workers in the state are among the very best you can find anywhere in the country.

But, for the few yet to embrace the new order of hard work, accountability, dedication and commitment, I urge you join the trend,” he said.

He said that the government was exploring many opportunities to enhance the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, promising that no effort would be spared to clear the four months salary arrears.

No doubt, times are hard because of the pervading poor state of the economy.

I feel your pains and I’m optimistic that we shall soon sing a new song of prosperity and abundance. May none of you be missing by that time,.” he said.

Ajimobi prayed for a hazard-free 2017 for workers in the state as the year enters the second quarter, and that God would give them good health to celebrate more workers’ days to come.

Ali said this during the decoration of the newly promoted senior customs officers on Monday in Abuja.

Ali said that the service had promoted 3,487 senior officers.

From this moment things have changed therefore; you are now required to take up greater responsibilities.

All the promoted officers have worked hard to achieve this; in the past, officers were promoted when they are not supposed to.

Merit is the key to promotion; diligent and hard work is the key to success.

We have to get ‘godfathereeism’ out of Customs before we leave, ” Ali added.

Ali said by June this year, officers would commence full training at the Customs Command, Gwagwalada, FCT.
