    Amnesty International faults arrest of Salihu Yakasai

    Global rights group, Amnesty International, has criticized the arrest of Salihu Tanko Yakasai, who was arrested hours after criticising the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over the rise in school kidnappings.

    Yakasai, who was until Saturday afternoon, a media aide to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, was detained by the Department of State Services on Friday.

    Amnesty said in a tweet, “Amnesty International condemns the arrest of Salihu Tanko Yakasai for exercising his freedom of expression through a tweet. We call on the Nigerian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release him. #FreeDawisuNow

    “Nigerian authorities must respect the right of citizens to express critical opinions. #FreeDawisuNow.”

    DSS denies arresting Ganduje’s aide over social media comments criticizing Buhari

    The Department of State Services (DSS) Kano State Directorate, said it has not arrested Mr Salihu Yakasai over his recent tweets against President Muhammadu Buhari.

    Director DSS Kano Directorate, Alhassan Muhammed disclosed this to Journalists on Saturday.

    Yakasai, who comments regularly on national issues was rumoured to have been picked by the secret police in the wake of schoolgirls abduction in Zamfara State where he described the APC government as failure.

    According to the DSS “We have not arrest or even invites Salihu, don’t forget he is our friend, sometimes, he advise us on issues of critical Security situations in Kano.”

    Meanwhile, the Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje has sacked Yakasai over same social comments criticizing the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership at all levels

    Ganduje’s aide calls Buhari-led government failure over fresh abductions in Zamfara

    An aide to the Kano State Governor, Salihu Yakasai on Friday described president Muhammadu Buhari-led government as a failure, while calling for the resignation of persons in power who have failed to curb the insecurity challenges in Nigeria.

    Yakasai made the remark in a post via his Twitter account on Friday while reacting to the recent abduction of schoolgirls from Zamfara State Government Secondary School, Jangebe abducted by suspected armed bandits.

    Yakasai, who was recently suspended for criticising President Buhari lamented that this current administration has failed Nigerians at all levels.

    He also called on the President to deal with terrorists and bandits decisively or resign.

    “Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number one duty we were elected to do, which is to secure lives and property.

    “Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign,” he said.
