La Liga: How Chukwueze’s brilliance helped Villarreal defeat Real Madrid

Two brilliant strikes from Samuel Chukwueze saw Villarreal beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Saturday.

The last time Villarreal beat Madrid in the league at the Bernabeu was 13 January 2018, when the Yellow Submarines secured a 1-0 win.

It was Chukwueze’s third goal against Madrid this season — two in La Liga and one in Copa Del Rey.

The Super Eagles forward is the second Villarreal player to score a brace in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid, after Diego Forlán in May 2006.

The defeat is a huge blow to Madrid’s title hopes as they, on 59 points, are now 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, who play Girona on Monday with the opportunity to extend their lead by 15 points.

For Villarreal, they move up to fifth place on 47 points and just four points off fourth spot.

Madrid took the lead in the 16th minute of the game following an own goal by Pau Torres.

However, Chukwueze drew Villarreal level on 39 minutes. He received a pass inside the box, beat Nacho with a body swerve before slotting past Thibaut Courtois.

Meanwhile, three minutes into the second half, Vinicius Junior made it 2-1 to Madrid but Morales equalised for Villarreal on 70 minutes.

In the 80th minute, Chukwueze sealed the win for Villarreal, as he curled the ball from the edge of the box into the far top corner.

Super Eagles’ and Villareal winger, Samuel Chukwueze has shown versatility off the field when he played the role of Elves the stubborn boy in the Christmas drama that featured Santa Claus.

Chukwueze, played the role of a stubborn boy who acted alongside former Liverpool goalie Pepe Reina.

Villareal shared the video and post it online for public consumption.

In the video, goalkeeper Pepe Reina and winger Samuel Chukwueze were dressed up as elves who sneaked into Villarreal’s traditional home, the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Hard at work was Father Christmas, Santa Claus Groguet, who was preparing the stadium grounds and moving gift items.

But Elves played by Chukwueze and Reina, instead of helping Santa Claus, proceeded to kid around and frustrate the efforts of the much-beloved man famed for bringing children gifts on Christmas Eve.

The video ended with Santa Claus making merry with the repentant elves.

There are reports making the rounds that the Nigerian winger is being looked at by Aston Villa who recently hired Chukwueze’s former coach Unai Emery.

Super Eagles and Villarreal FC of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze, has said the pressure will be on Liverpool when both sides clash in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday at Anfield.

This will be Villarreal’s first semi-final appearance since the 2005/2006 season, where they coincidentally played against another English opponent, Arsenal.

Chukwueze believes that the Reds of Liverpool will be playing more under pressure considering the fact that Villareal are the underdog

“We have a squad and manager good enough to compete against any team in the world. Because of the way Liverpool play some people have already made their own predictions but that is normal in football.

“We have a job to do and we are not going to Liverpool to lose. Why not aim for the best result over there? And that is what we hope to do

Champions League: Real Madrid survive Chelsea’s nightmare

Spanish giants, Real Madrid survived Chelsea’s nightmare as Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze scored to ensure Villarreal eliminated Bayern Munich out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Real Madrid held a 3-1 lead from the first leg of the tie but Chelsea pulled a stunner on the Spanish giants at the Bernabeu with the second leg of the tie ending in a 4:4 draw on aggregate at full time.

Karim Benzema put on a clinic for Los Blancos, displaying a clinical edge in the final third to score all three goals for the visitors at Stamford Bridge but it was Rodrygo who pulled level to give Real Madrid hope in the second leg encounter.

Fifteen minutes into the second leg, Mount, on the edge of the box, latched on to a flick from Werner and dispatched a firm right-footed strike past Courtois. He took a good first touch before burying his effort into the right corner of the net.

Into the second half at 51 minute, Chelsea again pulled the strings as Rudiger directed a pinpoint header past Courtois. Mount swinged a dangerous cross in from the right flank that sailed into the middle. Rudiger attacked the delivery before placing his effort with precision into the bottom-right corner.

However, in the 63rd minute of play, VAR played a huge moment in the tie as Alonso believed that he had fired Chelsea in front after dispatching a strike past Courtois at the second attempt.

However, VAR ruled that he handled the ball after seeing his first strike blocked by Carvajal. There was a slight touch and Madrid got a reprieve.

Meanwhile, in the 75th minute of play, Werner scored to put Chelsea in front of the tie. The German held his composure to bury a low strike into the net. It was Kovacic who released the forward in the inside-left channel and he cut back past the challenge of Carvajal. Werner still had work to do, but his effort clipped off Courtois and spun into the bottom-right corner.

Rodrygo, however, endured that Real Madrid remained in the tournament. The Brazilian guided a first-time strike past Mendy in the 80th minute, but the goal was all about Modric.

The veteran midfielder lifted a sublime cross to the back post with the outside of his right foot. Rodrygo only had to connect with the ball to score and did not disappoint with a deft touch to find the bottom-right corner.

Heading to extra-time after Rodrygo’s goal kept Madrid in the game after a brilliant surge from Chelsea, Benzema scored in the 96th minute of play to put Madrid back in front.

Benzema haunted Chelsea once more by scoring his fourth goal of the tie to put Madrid on course for the semi-finals. Vinicius did well down the left flank and dug out a cross for the Frenchman to attack. He placed his effort away from Mendy into the bottom-left corner with precision.

TNG reports Real Madrid won the game 5:4 on aggregate to join Villarreal that had earlier secured their place in the last four.

Champions League: Chukwueze eliminates Bayern for Villarreal

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze scored to help Villarreal eliminate Bayern Munich out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Villarreal secured a semi final spot in the Champions League in the process.

Villarreal entered the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie with a one goal advantage.

The Spanish side recorded a shock 1-0 win last week. Arnaut Danjuma’s strike was the difference during the first leg.

They maintained discipline to keep the German champions at bay in the second leg tie.

TNG reports it was Bayern Munich that was first to score in the second leg in the 52nd minute of play.

Lewandowski’s first shot of the night found the back of the net, punishing Parejo for a sloppy pass.

The Villarreal midfielder gave possession away, and that allowed Muller to pounce. The German international picked out Lewandowski, and the Pole did the rest, slotting the ball home via the far post.

With the goal, Lewandowski became the fifth player to score against 30 different Champions League teams as he joined Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Raul.

However, Villarreal replied in the 88th minute of play. Parejo’s quick thinking in the middle of the park was vital, as he played a crucial pass before Moreno was picked out.

The Villarreal striker looked across the pitch, and Chukwueze was waiting at the far post. The sub didn’t make a clean connection with the ball, but it was enough to beat Neuer.

Villarreal is now set to face either Benfica or Liverpool in the semi final.

Danjuma, Chukwueze shine in Villarreal’s 4-1 win over Granada

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze and Nigerian-born Arnaut Danjuma stood out in Villarreal’s impressive 4-1 win away at Los Carmenes against Granada in La Liga on Saturday.

The win meant Villarreal extended their unbeaten run to four matches in La Liga.

Danjuma scored an impressive hat-trick, including two penalty kicks.

Chukwueze also came off the bench to win a penalty kick and pick up an assist as Villarreal outplayed Granada at Estadio Neuvo Los Carmenes.

Danjuma’s first goal came 10 minutes before the half-time break from the penalty kick spot before adding his second from open play four minutes later.

Luis Milla then pulled one back, also from the penalty kick spot, only for Danjuma to score another penalty kick nine minutes from time.

Moi Gomez made it 4-1 deep in stoppage time.

The result leaves Villarreal in fifth as things stand, three points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and level on points with sixth-placed FC Barcelona.

After a poor opening to the season, Villarreal are finally hitting their stride, and the timing is good as they face Juventus at La Ceramica in the Champions League on Tuesday.

As for Granada, the heavy home defeat leaves them perilously close to the relegation zone.

They are currently 17th in the table, four points clear of Deportivo Alaves and 10 clear of bottom-placed Levante.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Udeze made this known even after Chukwueze netted the first goal in the second Group D fixture the Super Eagles played against Sudan.

The Villareal skipper netted the goal against Sudan in the 3rd minute of the game, with the Super Eagles going on to win the game 3:1.

Although Chukwueze’s goal against Sudan is the fastest goal of the tournament so far, Udeze believes that the winger was yet to hit his best form.

Recall that Chukwueze suffered a serious injury in last season’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Arsenal.

However, he recovered in time to be named in the Super Eagles’ 28-man squad for the AFCON being held in Cameroon.

In the first game against Egypt Chukwueze did not impress and had to be replaced in the second half.

In the game against Sudan, he was replaced by Alex Iwobi before the start of the second half.

Udeze explained why the Villarreal winger is yet to fully impress.

“Chukwueze is not yet in form, remember he was out with injury. But by the time he gets back to form we will see the best of him. I just pray he hits form in time,” Udeze said on Brila FM.

The Super Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday against Guinea-Bissau, who need a win to stand a chance to qualify for the round of 16.
