The event had the theme:  ‘My Lord Indeed I Am for Whatever Good You Would Send Me’.

It held at  the Lagos House, Marina.

  • EFCC clarifies Achimugu’s investigation in connection to Atiku, Sanwo-Olu

EFCC clarifies Achimugu’s investigation in connection to Atiku, Sanwo-Olu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that its investigation into Ms. Aisha Achimugu is not politically motivated and has no connection to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale made this clarification in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

The commission had earlier declared Achimugu, 51, from Ofu Local Government Area in Kogi, wanted for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Contrary to claims in some quarters, Oyewale emphasised that the investigation of Achimugu had no connection to any political figures.

“She is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering and has since been declared wanted by the commission,” he said.

He said that the EFCC began its investigation into Achimugu in 2022.

“Although she sought an injunction in court to prevent the commission from arresting, investigating, inviting, or detaining her, the injunction was challenged and vacated on Feb. 19, 2025, by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

“The court ruled that no court has the power to stop the investigative powers of the Police, EFCC, or any agency established under the law to investigate crimes when there is reasonable suspicion or ample evidence of an offence.

“The court also upheld the interim forfeiture order of assets suspected to be proceeds of crime, dismissing Achimugu’s suit as lacking merit.

“The foregoing clearly establishes that the EFCC’s case against her has no immediate or remote nexus with any politician or any veiled or open reference to any political engagement or transaction.

“The EFCC is non-partisan and non-sectarian. We encourage the public to continue to have faith in the professionalism of the Commission without imputing any extraneous considerations to its work,” Oyewale said.

  • I didn’t collect money from Sanwo-Olu for 2023 election campaign – Atiku

    I didn’t collect money from Sanwo-Olu for 2023 election campaign – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says he never collected any money from Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos for his 2023 election campaign.

This is contained in a statement issued by Atiku Media Office in Abuja on Thursday.

The Media Aide to Atiku, Paul Ibe, who issued the statement, denied the reports making the rounds that Sanwo-Olu gave money to the former vice-president for his 2023 presidential election campaign.

Atiku was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Ibe, in the statement, described the insinuations as a lie and kindergarten propaganda.

He said that the report had claimed that Sanwo-Olu had made available to Abubakar money purportedly belonging to Lagos.

The media aide stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was also credited with investigating the matter.

Ibe described the report as ‘a blatant lie from the pit of hell; a contrived political hogwash and a futile campaign of calumny aimed at advancing a political interest against Abubakar’.

He said that Abubakar did not know Sanwo-Olu and had never met him before.

“How is it possible for an Atiku that did not know and had no connection with Sanwo-Olu to be having a transaction with him involving the exchange of money – let alone during the presidential election of 2023 in which his boss was a contestant? To what end would that be?, he queried.

Ibe advised EFCC to make public the outcome of its alleged investigation, since it had been dragged into it.

He called for immediate halt to what he described as a voyage of misadventure and campaign of calumny against the person and reputation of Abubakar.

Sanwo-Olu reacts to alleged involvement in Obasa’s impeachment

Mr Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, says the governor has no hand in the impeachment of the immediate past Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Mudashiru Obasa.

Akosile debunked rumours making the round that Sanwo-Olu was responsible for the removal of Obasa, over a perceived rift between him and the legislative arm.

Akosile made the clarification in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Lagos.

“No, no, no. There is absolutely nothing true about that. I mean, no, the Governor does not have a hand in it. It was  purely a legislative matter.

“The Governor is busy with serious matters, busy with  taking care of the over 20 million Lagos population.

“What happened in the Hallowed Chamber of the House of Assembly was  purely the prerogative of the legislators.

“I mean, we saw on the media, just like you, that the legislators removed the Speaker. We watched like every other person. The Governor must have watched it like any other person.

“I don’t think there is anything more to it other than that. So, absolutely, there is no hand of the governor in the impeachment of the Speaker,” Akosile told NAN
