Sanwo-Olu said it was his administration’s firm belief that with dwindling revenues and the appurtenant inflationary growth rates, that there was need to come up with innovative ways of keeping the costs of governance at a minimum while engendering a spirit of selflessness in public service.

“Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House imminently for
the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies.

“It is our firm belief that with dwindling revenues and the appurtenant inflationary growth rates, that we need to come up with innovative ways of keeping the costs of governance at a minimum while engendering a spirit of selflessness in public service.”

Meanwhile the 2021 budget estimates is higher than the 2020 budget after it was reduced to N920.5 billion due to challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.

The budget represents N234.5 billion higher than the 2020 budget after it was reduced. But it is lesser than the initial 2020 budget of N1.68 trillion by N53.5 billion.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the 2021 budget has a total revenue of N962.528 billion and a total Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of N795,744 billion.

The governor said the budget has a Capital Expenditure of 703.272 billion and a Recurrent Expenditure of N451.750 billion.

He said the 2021 budget would focus on youth employment, security, youth engagement and social work, among others.

On youth empowerment, Sanwo-Olu said it has become expedient to leverage the state’s developmental efforts by focusing on sectors with job creating potential like Agriculture, Construction, Technology and Security.

“We are set to improve the economic conditions and social safety needed for our youth and all hardworking Lagosians to flourish. We are committing resources to sectors that need to grow for our people to become self-reliant and economically empowered.

“Consequently, for the agricultural sector, our food security plan has a cumulative budget of N22.21 billion while we are committing a cumulative budgetary provision of N311.43 billion to infrastructure: this will cover direct intervention through the Ministries of Works and Infrastructure, Water front, Transportation, the Judiciary, our Schools and Seed Capital of N15 billion for The Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund.

“This does not include the value to be created from executing the rail lines (both Red and Blue) recently approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly. To continue to drive our digitisation strategy, we have committed a total of N37.37 billion investment in technology, while in the environment and health services we have committed a total of N48.28 billion and N111.94 billion respectively.

“In line with our urgent need to light up Lagos we will begin a set of initiatives in the energy sector to ensure the Lagos economy is supported by power one community at a time. To this we have committed a total of N32.58billion in the 2021 budget,” he said.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the 2021 Appropriation Bill ‘also speaks to the restoration of economic balance as we navigate our way out of the negative impact of both the pandemic and the destruction of public assets following the ENDSARS protest hijack. A pivotal crux of the 2021 budget will be the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture among our people.

“In light of this, micro, small and medium enterprises will be strengthened because their activities help to facilitate socio-economic advancement. We have done a lot to support the entrepreneurs in Lagos state through the LSETF and we will do more by providing technical and financial support so that they can in turn generate employment that will stimulate equitable economic prosperity.

“We understand that we must consolidate our gains in the technology sector for accelerated economic growth and job creation. In order to achieve this, we will collaborate with major players in that space like Oracle, Microsoft and Google to prepare our youths for the IT job market. As we focus on job and wealth creation, we will also prioritize the security of lives and property as well as local intelligence gathering in our communities by increasing significantly the number of our Neighbourhood Watch Officers over the next two years.

“All these will be achieved through our human development MDAs comprising the Ministries of Education, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Wealth Creation, (including LSETF) and SDGI. Consequently, the cumulative budgetary provision towards Human capital development effort from these MDAs total’s N148.57billion.”

On security, the governor said his government is working on reviving the growth of our economy and must commit resources to statewide security architecture, especially in the areas of intelligence gathering and the motivation of all security personnel in the Neighbourhood Watch.

“We will not just increase the size of the Neighbourhood Watch personnel across the state, we will henceforth ensure their training includes community engagement, de-escalation techniques, and proactive information gathering within communities. We believe that as the population of Lagos State increases and becomes more sophisticated, so should the training of our security personnel; to cope with extant challenges.”

On youth engagement and social works, Sanwo-Olu said the possibilities for economic and social growth abounded in the state, saying that, “we must be emphatic about engaging our youth. As a father, politician, and governor, I am saddened by the increasing rise of substance abuse among our youth, particularly the boys. Our developmental vision would be incomplete without a vibrant, capable, and healthy youth population to take the baton of leadership when we leave the scene.

“This government has, therefore, made it its prerogative to increase its financial commitment to youth mentoring, mental health support, and substance abuse rehabilitation. Very soon, we will unveil our comprehensive action plan to address this issue. The initiative is being driven by the Neighbourhood Watch, The Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the Office of Civic Engagement.

“Our approach will entail a robust communication strategy that will highlight government’s projects and initiatives in a format that is easy to digest by our youths: our intention is cultivate their trust and get them to embrace participatory governance. We must do all we can to deter them from cybercrime and other vices. Consequently, there is a proposed allocation of N9.16 billion in the 2021 Budget,” he said.

#EndSARS: Destruction in Lagos likens to Boko Haram style of attacks – Zulum

Political leaders from the North East led by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Saturday paid a solidarity visit to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to commiserate with him and Lagosians over the massive destruction in the state by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protest.

In Zulum’s team was his predecessor in office and currently Senator representing Borno Central, Senator Kashim Shettima, was received by Sanwo-Olu at the State House in Marina.

Zulum described the attack as “mind-boggling”, noting that the violence was deliberately contrived to hurt Lagosians.

He said the proportion of the destruction was too much for Lagos to bear, stressing that the cost of rebuilding the State would bring about discomfort to residents and citizens whose businesses are tied to the peace in Lagos.

“We are here on behalf of Governors from the entire Northeast region and its people to commiserate with the people of Lagos and their Governor, over the recent unfortunate incident of violence that happened in Lagos, which left wanton destruction of both the public and private properties.

“While we strongly condemn any form of brutality by the police in any part of the country, we also condemn what has happened in Lagos. The destruction was engineered to hurt this booming State and its economy.

“We condemn the excesses of the youths who took to violence to express their grievances. There was no need for the violence when the authorities had already conceded to their demands.”

Zulum likened the style of the destruction of key Lagos Government assets to the manner with which Boko Haram carried out attacks on public utilities, noting that it could take years for Lagos to fully recover from the wreckage.

The Governor urged young people across the country and in Lagos to always use non-violent means to express their grievances, pointing out that destroying infrastructure meant to serve the public shouldn’t be an option in public protest.

He also advised those bent on staging another round of protest to allow the wound left by the destruction and looting of properties to heal. He said Governors had been working with the Federal Government to ensure victims of police brutality get justice and compensation.

Sanwo-Olu said the attacks had not weaned away Lagos’ ability to turn around its misfortune to opportunities, hinting that the State would come out stronger and better.

Sanwo-Olu particularly expressed appreciation to his Borno counterpart for identifying with Lagos, despite being faced by security challenges. The gesture, he said, stands Zulum out as a fearless leader.

Others in Zulum’s entourage include the Senator representing Borno North, Abubakar Kyari, Borno Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Adamu Lawan, Special Adviser on Intern-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Tukur Mohammed, Mr. Ahmed Ali Ahmed, and Mai Kanini of Lagos.

It will be recalled that Lagos State has continued to receive solidarity and support from well-meaning leaders across the country in the aftermath of the last month’s coordinated destruction of public assets and private properties instigated by the hijack of youth protest, Zulum and the North East political leader’s visit on Saturday being the latest.

Gov Sanwo-Olu signs executive order to rebuild Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday signed an executive order establishing the “Lagos State Rebuild Trust Fund´´ toward rebuilding the state.

Signing the executive order at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu said that rebuilding the state was necessary, due to the huge destruction witnessed during the mayhem that followed recent EndSARS protests.

The governor also constituted an eight-member Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund Committee to oversee the rebuilding of every aspect of the state and also look at the future and healing of Lagos.

He said that in the last few weeks, the state government had been inundated with local and global offers of assistance to rebuild the state and recover all that were lost to arson and violence in the month of October.

According to him, it is obvious that the government can no longer wait to begin the onerous task of reconstructing Lagos State.

“In the next few days, our government will send a bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly for the Establishment of a Trust Fund to Rebuild Lagos.

“However, with the deluge of offers of immediate help and assistance that we have received locally and internationally, we can no longer wait until the bill is passed. It is expedient that our enumeration, recovery, and rebuilding efforts start as soon as possible.

“Therefore, by the power vested in me as the Governor of Lagos State, I will today sign an Executive Order to set up an eight-man Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund Committee, which will as a matter of urgency begin to oversee our recovery process.

“As I sign the Executive Order today, I am positive that we will attain new heights of development, we will build more resilient systems, we will become more united and accomplish our audacious goals and visions for Lagos State.

“I assure you of the committee’s utmost commitment to the reconstruction and upgrade of our dear state. In these challenging but interesting times, we realize that we have the potent opportunity to reform our state, and upgrade our structures,´´ Sanwo-Olu said.

According to him, the government has decided to put behind it the recent challenges and face the daunting task of collectively rebuilding the state.

“We believe that our culture, heritage, values and future are worth much more than the looting, arson and destruction, which we witnessed in Lagos State about two weeks ago.

“We have decided to look to the future with hope, as we work on healing the wounds of our recent past.

“Instead of wallowing in our pain, we have chosen to positively move forward. We will embrace new standards of governance; we will build stronger partnerships, stronger people, stronger institutions, and a stronger state.

“Our strength lies in our uncanny ability to overcome the most complicated challenges because we have people who genuinely love Lagos State and will assiduously do all they can to preserve its peace and unity,´´ he said.

The governor said that the committee would have a profound effect on how quickly and efficiently the state would be rebuilt and restart the socio-economic growth.

Sanwo-Olu said that when the Trust Fund Bill is passed by the House of Assembly and becomes law, the Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund Committee would be dissolved, and its functions would be immediately transferred to the newly established Trust Fund.

He said that Trust Fund Committee would be responsible for getting the detailed cost of restructuring and rebuilding the destroyed property, among other functions.

Members of the Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund include Mr Yemi Cardoso, Prof. Kanyisola Ajayi, Mr Gbenga Agboola, Mrs Bola Adesola, Mr Sam Egube, Mr Jimi Hotonu, Mr Abubakar Suleiman and a member of international donor agency.

APC fumes as PDP tells Sanwo-Olu to resign

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos State says Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains undaunted and could not be distracted from delivering on his social contract with the people.

The APC Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, said this while reacting to calls by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Sanwo-Olu to consider resignation in view of what PDP called “the collapse of good governance in the state, particularly in the last 10 days”.

Oladejo said the PDP call is an invitation to anarchy, saying “the call for resignation remains the wish of a frustrated opposition battling its permanent implosion”.

According to him, the dream of PDP to govern Lagos state through the back door after persistent rejection at the polls remains a nightmare.

Oladejo said that the fact that the wanton destruction of public properties, utilities and individual investment in Lagos in the aftermath of #EndSARS protest had thrown the PDP camp into unprecedented jubilation was loaded with meaning.

“The PDP in Lagos state that suddenly came to life in the past week owes the innocent members of the public detailed explanation about its ignominious and condemnable role in the mayhem.

“The intermittent falsehood about governance in the state fed to the unsuspecting public fanned the ember of the unprecedented violence which has left in its wake sorrow, tears and blood.

“The daylight murder of police officers and the razing of several stations across the state has no doubt taken its toll on our security architecture, but the state government is working assiduously to provide temporary accommodation to forestall the breakdown of law and order. We are persuaded by the firm assurance of the governor to revamp our losses in no time,” he said.

According to Oladejo, the flag-off ceremony of the reconstruction of the Eleko to Epe T- junction road is an eloquent testimony that governance is not on recess in the state.

He added that the security of lives and property and all-round development remain the priority of the Lagos State government.

Oladejo said that the unfortunate event of the past two weeks which took off as a peaceful nationwide protest and snowballed to the breakdown of law and order remained regrettable and distasteful and should not be used to play politics.

Calling on the governor to resign, the PDP said in a statement on Sunday, by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, that the governor seemed to have been overwhelmed by the current challenges facing the state.

The PDP spokesman said: “This counseling is in good faith and for the overall interest of the state.

“If this state continues to experience the collapses in next 72 hours, it may suffer a declaration of state of emergency, a step that would likely deprive all.

“The PDP is even more expedient for the governor to welcome the counsel to step aside now that the Nigerian Army has revealed him as the person who invited the soldiers to go and quell the Lekki protests.”

“Obviously, Lagosians can no longer trust a governor who denies his conspiracy actions in government.”

According to him, Sanwo-Olu has no moral standing worth being proud of and he should admit this and honourably leave the stage as governor of the state.

ENDSARS crisis: Sanwo-Olu lifts curfew on Lagos

Barely 24 hours after the Lagos State government further relaxed the curfew imposed on the state from 10pm to 6am, the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, totally lifted the curfew imposed in the wake of the hijack of the peaceful #EndSARS protests with immediate effect.

However, the 12 am to 4 am curfew earlier imposed by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to curb the spread of the pandemic remains in force.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, quoted Sanwo-Olu as saying:He stated, “The curfew imposed on Lagos State after the hijack of the peaceful #EndSARS protests has been lifted immediately but the 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. curfew imposed by the Federal Government to curb the spread of COVID-19 remains.

“Lagosians are free to go about their business without any hindrance whatsoever. Security agencies will continue to discharge their duties.

“Lagosians are urged to co-operate with them to maintain the status of our state as one of the most peaceful.”

  • Sanwo-Olu’s Curfew and Executive Hypocrisy (2), By Michael West

Sanwo-Olu’s Curfew and Executive Hypocrisy (2), By Michael West

    By Michael West

The Nigerian Army’s confession that they were invited by the Lagos State government didn’t hit me as a surprise. I knew all along that Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu knew more than passing knowledge about the Lekki toll plaza shooting by soldiers. Last week, this column gave some sketchy behind the scenes that ultimately led to the incident. The plotters of the incident failed to consider or probably took for granted the furore that the misadventure would generate locally and internationally.

The Nigerian Army which had earlier denied deployment of its troops to the scene didn’t just recant, it volunteered the information when it couldn’t sustain the narrative any further. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has been under intense pressure over the incident. He was receiving calls from world leaders including the Secretary General of the United Nations placing demands for a probe to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident. Prominent Nigerians, pressure groups, religious bodies, leaders of thoughts and opposition political parties have sustained the pressure to know who actually called out the military guys to duty under such a circumstance. Expectedly, Buhari turned the hit on Army authorities to explain what they knew about it. It was the result of the global outcry and heated agitation that forced the military to speak out as a way of exonerating itself from human rights violation culpability.

In its statement, the Army, through its acting spokesman, Osoba Olaniyi, claimed that “soldiers stayed away from the #EndSARS protests until the Lagos government invited them to restore order.” It went further to reveal that “However, the decision to call in the military was taken by the Lagos State Government (LASG) after a 24-hour curfew was imposed.” Unfortunately, the incident happened even before the commencement of the curfew. The curfew, initially announced to take effect from 4pm was later shifted to 9:pm while the shooting started at about 7:00pm. The entire scenario was a manifest conspiratorial plot executed in blind impunity and sheer executive conspiracy to achieve subversion of a popular agitation. This was what played out last week Tuesday’s night at the Lekki toll plaza venue of the peaceful #EndSARS protest.

In his response to the Army’s revelation, Mr. Governor, through his spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, said there was nothing wrong in seeking the intervention of the military in crisis situation. He placed emphasis on the aspect that the military denied shooting at protesters thereby dismissing the accusation that they shot and killed. According to him, “if you read the statement very well, the angle of Lagos State government, you (will) understand. There is nothing wrong to say lawlessness, anarchy has come and the military should be called to intervene. There is nothing wrong there, there is nothing wrong there.” He, however, was silent on the earlier denial by his principal that he didn’t know who drafted the soldiers to the scene.

I dare say that Governor Sanwo-Olu is playing a fall guy for somebody in this conspiracy. He was not acting his own scripts. I alluded to this possibility last week in this column. Not a few people are now disappointed in the agile and able governor. In his live interviews on local and international television stations, Sanwo-Olu kept denying his involvement in the plot while assuring that a proper investigation will be carried out to unravel those behind the onslaught on the unarmed peaceful protesters within the military command structure. His barefaced lies vitiate his credibility and integrity as a governor of the wealthiest state in West Africa sub-region.

Sanwo-Olu is not alone in the shenanigans. Now that his loyalty to the people has been put to test by the disclosure of the Nigerian Army, it also behoves him to name his instigators and accomplices in knitting the web of the onslaught. Last week, I placed the blame for the unfortunate incident at the doorsteps of the governor given some incontrovertible evidences and sequence of events preceding the shooting. The major cause of the problem was the impulsive imposition of the curfew in Lagos State. To be honest, there was no justifiable reason or reasons for it. It was done in a desperate bid to get the determined youths off the streets at all cost. For the wanton destruction of state and private properties and looted businesses as a fallout of the shooting, the governor should take the blame. When state sponsored thugs and streets urchins could not disrupt the well-organised, peaceful and widely supported protests, they resorted to the curfew option which has now caused more harrowing and painful consequences than they ever imagined.

I want to disagree with those who are saying the #EndSARS peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums. That was a blatant lie. It was never hijacked. The narrative was propounded to achieve a sinister end. To hijack means the miscreants took over the protests in all its standard locations; and this never happened. When government’s sponsored vandals attempted to disrupt the protests at Alausa and Lekki toll plaza locations, the youths engaged the services of bouncers and security dogs. That was the end of the coordinated aggression. Until government’s unprovoked attack on the protesters at Lekki toll plaza venue, there was no commotion or disruption of any kind recorded. The curfew, I insist, was needless; it was imposed as the last option to dislodge the youths, howbeit, forcefully from the streets knowing full well that the protesting youths would want to defy the order.

Mr. Governor has also come out to declare that there were no casualties as a result of the shooting at Lekki toll plaza. How possible? With live ammunitions being fired in the midst of unarmed youths, it is impossible not to record casualties. That night, the protesters were screaming loud and clear that the soldiers refused to allow the injured and those lying lifeless from being taken to the hospital in the ambulance. It was later alleged that the soldiers took away the dead bodies. And that is typical of the military whenever such incidences occur. It is unfortunate though understandable that the Nigerian Army is on the same page with Mr. Governor on this deceit. The army said its men “did not shoot at civilians,” then, what did they do with their weapons at the scene? How come people were picking cartridges and bullet shells on the ground? Playing the ostrich in this age of modern technology will further expose the lies to the consternation of the Army authorities and sadly embarrassing to the international audience. Amnesty International in its report has confirmed casualties from Lekki shooting. The agency also disclosed that it has a video recording of how the troops moved from Bonny Camp military base to the toll plaza in its possession. For those who are asking “Where are the dead bodies” or “Let the parents or families of missing protesters come out,” I will advise them to be calm. The truth which has began to unfold will eventually be made public sooner or later.

Apart from personal integrity deficit the governor may suffer, his political party and its candidates will bear the brunt of the decimated public image and dislike brought about by the poor handling of the celebrated #EndSARS protests in Lagos State for a long time. This time around, if the fervency and zest for change as demonstrated by the patriotic youths are sustained, electoral process manipulations that have always earned undeserved victories to political merchants would cease forthwith; and this should start with the forthcoming Lagos East Senatorial by-election. I’m waiting to see our promising and vibrant youths put their will test soonest by translating their clamour for change into action.

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday awarded scholarships to the children of policemen killed during the violence that trailed the EndSARS protest.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced this during his visit to the Lagos Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on to interact with Police personnel on ways to police the state better.

“The most important requests is to offer scholarships to the children of officers who died.

“I have directed the Lagos State Scholarship Board, under the Special Adviser on Education, to immediately award scholarships to the children of the slain officers,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He also said that the state government will set up a “Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund” in the aftermath of the destruction in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said the the reform of the Police Force, as demanded by the EndSARS protesters, has started.

He also promised that the government will compensate the families of the killed Policemen, take care of their burial expenses, and foot the hospital bills of injured officers.

Sanwo-Olu said all damaged personal and official vehicles of Police officers will be replaced, and insurance policies for Police officers in Lagos worked out.

He acknowledged and thanked the police personnel for their support, and the women police officers for their dedication to service to the people of Lagos.

“You have not been truly acknowledged but I want to thank you. You have been gallant. You have shown how critical you are in our society. We might come from different background but we are all humans created by God.

“The Lagos State Police Command has been a delight in spite of our differences and inadequacies. You did not create the problems, these are institutional problems. As your governor, I acknowledge what you do and what you stand for.

“As your governor, I take full responsibility for what happened and has not happened. I will not shy away from it,” he said.

To those he said were formenting trouble with social media, the governor said desist. “We will not join issues with anybody. We are moving forward. We will heal our lands and Lagos will be better for it,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, commended Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s administration and appealed to the governor to further provide the command with security equipment.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Southwest, Leye Oyebade, said that there was the need to go back to the drawing board, saying the way forward is to re-address the method of policing in the country, by embracing community and digital policing.

Sanwo-Olu awards scholarship to children of slain policemen

Police officers lynched in the wake of the violence instigated by the nationwide youth demonstration against police brutality will not die in vain, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged.

The state government, yesterday, directed Lagos State Scholarship Board to award scholarships to the children of the slain officers up to the university level.

Twenty-nine Divisional Police Stations and 17 Police Posts were razed by hoodlums disguised as protesters.

Also, six police officers were lynched, 36 critically injured, while 71 police operational vehicles were torched.

In spite of the loss, the police said they remained undeterred in performing their constitutional duties.

Sanwo-Olu yesterday, made the offer to take the bill of replacing the logistics lost by the police when he visited the Command Headquarters in Ikeja to boost the morale of officers, following the demoralising events of the past week in which police officers and their stations were targeted by hoodlums.

The governor got the assurance of the police’s commitment to strengthen security across the state from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu.

Sanwo-Olu said the statutory duties of the Police could not be wished away because of the actions of a few bad eggs, noting that the impact of the police officers’ absence on the roads was generally felt by residents.

He said the State must put the event of the past week behind it and move on to restore peace across the communities.

To achieve this, police officers , he said, must regain their confidence.

He said: “Commissioner of Police has come forward with a number of requests, which we will need to address to boost the morale of officers after last week’s event. As your governor, I have come here to take full responsibility for the loss you have suffered in terms of logistics. From tomorrow (Thursday), we will start implementing these requests.

“Through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), we will be replacing the police operational vehicles burnt in the violence. We have a bigger plan for all the police stations burnt down. We will look for the funds and build befitting stations that will set the standard of what police stations should be.

“The most important request is to offer scholarship to the children of officers that died. I have directed the Lagos State Scholarship Board under the Special Adviser on Education to immediately award scholarship to the children of the slain officers.”

Sanwo-Olu said the state Government would also be compensating family members of the officers killed in the violence and take care of the burial arrangement of the slain officers, adding that the state would also be picking up the hospital bills of those injured in the mayhem.
Police officers serving in Lagos are also to get life insurance from the state government, Sanwo-Olu promised.

The governor directed the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Dr. Rasaq Balogun, to establish the modality with the police leadership in the state.

The governor also approved the request to upgrade Police Cottage Hospital in Ikeja, directing the Commissioner for Health to inspect the facility for the required upgrade.

In addition to donating two 150KVa generating sets to the police, Sanwo-Olu said the Command Headquarters would be connected to the State’s Independent Power Project (IPP) for constant power supply.

Responding, Odumosu said the manner with which the slain officers were murdered brought down morale in the command.

He said the police officers remained committed to their statutory responsibilities, thanking the governor for approving their requests.

The gesture, the police boss said, would restore confidence in the state’s police workforce.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in charge of Research and Planning, Leye Oyebade, said the Police took away valuable lessons from the EndSARS protest, noting that there was no better time to fully implement the community policing than now.

He said the protest had ended and it was time for the police to win back citizens’ confidence and trust.

He said: “As police officers, we must now go back to the drawing board and cultivate the goodwill of the communities in which we operate. I’m particularly charging divisional police headquarters to devise strategies tailored toward your local realities and employ digital tools.”
