LAGOS WOMEN WALK: Sanwo-Olu dances Buga (VIDEO)

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Monday danced to the viral song ‘Buga’ once again in public at the solidarity walk staged by women in the state.

He was flanked by his deputy Obafemi Hamzat and some women.

The walk by women from different parts of Lagos was in support of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

Videos of the women, comprising artisans, traders and market women and professionals, marching on the streets with banners, have been trending online.

The women, in their hundreds, gathered at Tinubu’s Square on Lagos Island and other locations in the state for the solidarity walk.

Shading supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, Sanwo-Olu’s new media aide Jubril Gawat said, “The Owners of Lagos … The Mothers of EVERYBODY including ASIWAJU himself.

“We are not calling it 1 Million or 1 Billion … It’s just a simple Lagos women Walk.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the walk comes 48 hours after the October 1 rallies organised by Obi’s supporters nationwide and outside the country.

It also followed a post by Tinubu on Sunday where he debunked rumour of his death.

Tinubu’s whereabouts has been a matter of public concern following his absence from public events including the first signing of the Peace Accord by presidential candidates in Abuja.

The former Lagos governor posted a video of himself on social media on an exercise bike, stating that he is healthy.

“Many have said I have died, others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign. Well… Nope.

“This is the reality: I am strong, I am healthy and I am READY to serve Nigerians from Day One,” Tinubu said.

Recall that sometime May,  Governor Sanwo-Olu joined many other music lovers to participate in the ‘Buga’ challenge.

Daniel Anidugbe, the singer better known as Kizz Daniel, on May 5, came through with ‘Buga’, his latest song, featuring Tekno.

A challenge was thereafter created on social media platforms to promote the less than four-minute song. The challenge has continued to reverberate across the country.

Shortly after he clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest for a second term as the governor of Lagos, Sanwo-Olu, who was walking to the podium with his aides, lifted his arms up in a pompous fashion — the trademark sign of the song — while he danced.

The song was being played in the background, while the governor showed off his dancing skills amid cheers from his supporters.

Sanwo-Olu halts RTEAN activities in Lagos (IYANA-IBA VIDEO)

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has suspended all activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the state and appoints a 35-man caretaker committee.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, on Thursday.

He noted that the suspension has become imperative following some pockets of violence recorded in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday, adding that a 35- Man Caretaker Committee has been constituted to take over activities of the union henceforth.

“In a bid to fulfill one of the cardinal objectives of the T.H.E.M.E.S developmental agenda of the present administration in Lagos State as it relates to Security and Good Governance, under Traffic Management and Transportation, the Lagos State Government has suspended all activities of RTEAN with immediate effect,” Giwa said.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that on Wednesday two persons were feared killed during a clash involving factional members of RTEAN in the Iyana Iba and Lagos Island areas of Lagos State.

During the clash on Wednesday, the transport union members were seen in a trending video clip engaging themselves in a free-for-all.

In the video clip seen on social media, the transport union workers were seen fighting themselves with stones, bottles, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons.

Meanwhile. RTEAN said it has suspended one of its Lagos State Vice-Chairmen, Oluwaseyi Bamgbose, popularly known as ‘Student,’ for instigating unrest in the association.

RTEAN National President, Musa Muhammed, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos through the National Publicity Secretary of the union, Abdulrahman Amusan.

    Alhaji (Dr) Musa Muhammed

The move came a day after different groups within RTEAN clashed in Lagos, leaving several people injured.

Muhammed, also the Lagos State Chairman of RTEAN, said Mr Bamgbose’s recent moves and actions were capable of instigating violence in the Lagos State Council of the association.

He said Bamgbose had on Wednesday organized an illegal protest at the Alausa Secretariat with some disgruntled elements in his efforts to create violence and unrest in the association.

According to him, Bamgbose’s intention was to cause trouble so that the state government would regard the association as uncoordinated and subsequently placed a ban on its activities.

“While (Bamgbose) was organising a protest in Ikeja yesterday, another clash instigated by him was going on at Iyana Iba in the Ojo area so that government would think we are fighting and then take over our operations.

“Bamgbose wants to create an impression that all is not well in the association.

“RTEAN has taken decisive action against him, he has been put on suspension in accordance with the association’s rules and regulations.

“The union is a discipline organisation and will never tolerate or condone any act of violence, especially during this campaign period and elections that are coming. The union cannot afford any act of violence,” Muhammed said.

RTEAN National President asserted that his tenure is still running as the duly elected chairman of the state council and is loved by the majority of members.

He said there was a process to become an officer in the association and anyone who has any aspiration or ambition should wait and follow the due process instead of resorting to violence.

NURTW directs MC Oluomo to vacate Lagos secretariat

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has directed the former state chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, to vacate the union’s state secretariat in Agege.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that last month, MC Oluomo pulled out of the union after being suspended by the national body over alleged insubordination.

Lagos State Government subsequently appointed him chairman of parks management committee to oversee the affairs of public transportation in the state.

At a press briefing during the weekend, chairman of the caretaker committee for Lagos state council of the union,

Fatai Adesina, who was appointed by the national body, appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to compel MC Oluomo and his colleagues to stop using NURTW secretariat since they are no longer members of the union.

“lt’s very proper and negates common sense. You renounce your membership of the union but you still hold tight to the property of the union,” Adesina said.

“We are appealing to the state government to help talk to the members of the committee to vacate our office. That complex belongs to the NURTW and since you said you are no longer a member, courtesy demands that you drop all the union’s property in your possession.”

Adesina stressed that one of the terms of reference given to the caretaker committee is to collect all the union’s property, including cash, from MC Oluomo’s administration.

It would be recalled that Lagos State government had appointed MC Oluomo as the chairman of its newly constituted Parks Management Committee.

MC Oluomo was sacked on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, by the national body of the union, for not showing remorse after his initial suspension for insubordination and abuse of office.

  • Lagos govt goes tough, clamps down on street traders, others

Lagos govt goes tough, clamps down on street traders, others

The Lagos State Government on Sunday said serious steps were being taken to address street trading and other vices in the state.

The Chairman of State Taskforce on Environmental Offences, CSP Shola Jejeloye stated this while addressing officers of the task force on the negative and harmful effects street trading was having on the state.

Jejeloye said officers would be deployed to carry out an all-round operations in areas like Iyana-Ipaja, Oshodi, Ikeja Along, Yaba amongst others.

He said residents of the state were being made to face unnecessary traffic jam and hardship caused by street trading.

According to him, the operation will be directed at acts of displaying wares by the roadside, selling on kerbs, illegal blocking of streets to carry out social activities, flagrant pollution of the environment and indiscriminate parking of vehicles on roads.

He said his officers will also check illegal collection of fees on the highways by the road transport union officials and others constituting nuisance by serial offenders within the state.

“It has become worrisome having to spend many hours in traffic caused by unauthorised display of wares by traders on our roads, thereby creating an artificial bottleneck.

“We have to put a stop to that by ensuring that activities involving buying and selling are taken off the roads and into the marketing complex designed for such.

“Street trading gives room for traffic robbery in some parts of the state.

“There are many instances where some street traders carry out their activities during the day and when it gets dark they pull out dangerous weapons like knives and sharp objects to rob motorists held up in traffic,” he said.

The chairman pointed out that the elimination of street trading would drastically reduce the cases of traffic robbery being reported daily.

He assured residents of Lagos State that the agency would not rest on its oars in ensuring that sanity was maintained in all parts of the state.

He added that the taskforce was working round the clock to make sure that offenders were brought to book.

“We are going to make series of arrests in the coming weeks and they will all be made to face mobile court immediately for prosecution.

“This will serve as a deterrent to others to desist from activities that are detrimental to the people.

The roads, inner streets and highways belong to us all and it is in our best interest to make sure we safe guard and preserve them for our use,” he said.
