In addition to these, Prince bin Salman also highlighted agriculture and renewable energy as areas of investment interest for Saudi Arabia in Nigeria to help the country attain food and energy security, respectively.

The Crown Prince hinted that the refinery investments in Nigeria will be led by the Saudi state-owned oil company, Saudi Aramco, with the revamp to be completed within a two-to-three-year timeframe.

Jose Peseiro the head coach of Nigeria senior men’s national team has said the friendly game against Saudi Arabia will be a very tough game.

It is the second time the Super Eagles will take on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following a goalless draw in a 2010 friendly.

Incidentally, Peseiro was the man at the helm of affairs for Saudi Arabia in 2010 when they faced Nigeria.

“Saudi was the last team to beat Argentina so I expect a hard match and also a good match for our team and we will start on the front foot against them.

“We want to beat Saudi Arabia and Mozambique so as to prepare well for the first two games of the World Cup qualifiers because Nigeria must play the next World Cup,” Peseiro said in his press conference on Thursday.

  • Saudi Arabia submits bid to host 2034 World Cup

Saudi Arabia submits bid to host 2034 World Cup

In its efforts to stage the 2034 World Cup, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has submitted bid to stage the world’s football most glamorous competition.

Saudi Arabia has submitted a letter of intent to that effect.

The World Cup has been long coveted by Saudi Arabia so the Kingdom’s bid was already relatively advanced, with the country announcing last month that it was ending its interest in jointly hosting the 2030 tournament with Egypt and Greece to focus on 2034 instead.

A joint bid from Spain, Portugal and Morocco has been named as the sole candidate for 2030 – and will be awarded the tournament if approved by the FIFA Congress in Bangkok next year, something which will almost certainly happen.

It means Saudi Arabia has a seemingly clear path to hosting the 2034 tournament, with FIFA facing criticism for allegedly fast-tracking the process in their favour.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Saudi Arabia senior national team  will clash on Friday in an international friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao, Portugal.

It is the second-ever clash between both countries. Both teams battled to a scoreless draw in a pre-2010 World Cup friendly game at the Alpenstadion in Wattens, Austria on May 25, 2010.

According to a statement from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation signed by its president, Yasser Al Misehal, “Last week we announced our ambitions to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and this official submission continues our journey to make the dreams of our people a reality.

“We are extremely committed to presenting the most competitive bid possible that will also help unite the world through football.”

SAFF declared their intention last Wednesday to bid for the tournament, with over 70 FIFA Member Associations from across different continents have publicly pledged their support for the kingdom.

Last week, FIFA named Morocco, Spain and Portugal as co-hosts of the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay hosting the opening matches to mark the tournament’s centenary.

Saudi Arabia, UN, Biden speak on ongoing war between Palestine, Israel

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a statement expressing regret over the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.

The country has called for a de-escalation of the crisis

The early hours of Saturday, the Palestinian militant group, the Hamas launched an unprecedented and offensive attack by infiltrating Israel.

The attack has resulted in the confirmed deaths of over hundreds of people in Israel, with over a hundred others currently receiving medical treatment in hospitals.

In response, Israeli forces have carried out retaliatory strikes in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of nearly 200 people.

In a statement made available in the media earlier, the Hamas military commander, Mohammed Deif, claimed that the attacks were a reprisal for Israel’s alleged “desecration” of the Al-Agsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the killing and injuring of hundreds of Palestinians this year. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia has stated that it is closely monitoring the situation.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has, however, noted that it is monitoring developments closely.

The Kingdom calls for an immediate halt to the escalation between the two sides, the protection of civilians, and restraint,” the statement reads.

It added: “The Kingdom recalls its repeated warnings of the dangers of the explosion of the situation as a result of the continued occupation, the deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights, and the repetition of systematic provocations against its sanctities.

“The Kingdom renews the call of the international community to assume its responsibilities and activate a credible peace process that leads to the two-state solution to achieve security and peace in the region and protect civilians.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) has condemned the attack by Hamas, adding that the body is worried about civilians caught in the crossfire.

In a statement released after Hamas’ attack and the following reprisal, the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said: “Civilians must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law at all times,” the statement reads.

“The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and calls for the immediate release of all abducted persons.

“The Secretary-General urges all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflagration. He stresses that violence cannot provide a solution to the conflict, and that only through negotiation leading to a two-state solution can peace be achieved.”

Also, US President Joe Biden, in a post on X, expressed support for Israel and sent his condolences to families who have lost loved ones.

“Today, I spoke with the Israeli prime minister about the appalling Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel,” Biden said.

  • I will definitely work in Saudi – Mourinho

I will definitely work in Saudi – Mourinho

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho says he will eventually work in the Saudi Pro League.

Mourinho hinted at turning down a massive offer from Al-Hilal over the summer, but now says he has plans to eventually move to the SPL.

He said, “I go to Saudi Arabia when I have time off at some point.

“I am also sure that I will work there. I’m not sure when, but I’m pretty sure about it.

“I am still committed to my work in Roma and I will give it everything until my last day. Nobody knows the future, but I definitely want to work in Saudi Arabia.”

  • Why I rejected Saudi Arabia and China – Ibrahimovic

Why I rejected Saudi Arabia and China – Ibrahimovic

Former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given his thoughts on players moving to Saudi Arabia.

The veteran, who retired in the summer due to injury issues, was asked about players such as Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the best leagues in Europe for the Saudi Pro League.

Ibrahimovic, who played for AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, and other top clubs, gave his thoughts to Piers Morgan Uncensored.

He stated: “I had an offer also from China. I had an offer also from Saudi, but the situation is, what do you want? What objectives do you have? I said before we started, like certain players need to finish their career on the big stage because that is the high end of your career.

“You have to be remembered for your talent, not for what you earned. Because if you were remembered in the opposite way, what we are training every day for, what we are being recognised for, is our talent and that’s what you want to be remembered for.

“So I think certain players that reach a certain level, they have to stop at a certain stage, and that’s the big stage. You cannot go in a lower stage and finish your career in a different way. But some players needed the situations where you can earn a lot of money because they didn’t earn enough.”

Before AC Milan, Ibrahimovic spent two seasons in the USA with LA Galaxy.
