Challenges of insecurity is too much of a burden on Nigerians already battling with hardship and poverty- Peter Obi

Vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, Peter Obi, has said challenges of insecurity is too much of a burden on Nigerians “already battling with hardship and poverty”.

Obi, on Tuesday tweeted: “The terror attacks on Kaduna Airport and on Abuja-Kaduna bound train, with several persons reportedly abducted is depressing and disheartening and underscores the worsening level of insecurity across the country.

“The challenges of insecurity is too much of a burden on Nigerians already battling with hardship and poverty. Sadly, the worsening level of insecurity only further aggravates the negative performance of Nigeria’s economy.”

While condoling with the families of the bereaved, Obi sympathised with the traumatised passengers.

He urged security agencies in the country to remain resolute in the fight against terrorism in the country.

“The terror attacks in Kaduna and different parts of the country, have become very worrisome and should serve as wake up call to the government to beef up the country’s security and be more proactive in handling security issues,” Obi asserted.

If we don’t address security issues now, insecurity will consume us, Rep Nkem-Abonta tells his NASS colleagues

Honourable Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ukwa East West Federal Constituency of Abia State on Thursday told his colleagues in the National Assembly to as a matter of urgency seriously tackle security issues or it will consume them all.

Nkem-Abonta, a lawyer in a chat with TheNewsGuru.com, TNG, said if NASS fails to tackle security issues in Nigeria, then sooner than later, “insecurity will address us”.

“Let me tell you that the government in power the two c hambers of the national assembly should wake up to these security issues. If we do not wake up and address security issues, insecurity will address us.

On the rising wave of insecurity in the South East, the Abia lawmaker, said “Insecurity in the southeast now is very precarious, dangerously precarious, now we are now in We are wondering what could be the cause.

“But one thing is very clear, the security architecture and structure is not sufficient to guarantee safety, therefore there is clear indication that we must restructure Nigeria.

“The insecurity in the northeast, northcentral, northwest and now southeast, it is endemic, it is a clear indication of a nation about to fail.

“Something must be done and done urgently in trying to restructure Nigeria.

“The lip service being paid by the government including the legislative arm about restructuring must assume a different dimension.

“The constitutional review being laboured about may be an exercise in futility if restructuring and federalism is not addressed.

“We use the issue of local government autonomy, to misdirect and misguide and shift attention. Are you enjoying local government autonomy when there is no security?

“The issue of state police, true federalism, fiscal federalism in particular must be addressed.

Today Nigeria rates the highest unemployed country as also observed in the communiqué of the PDP governor’s forum.

“Therefore this thing calls for urgent attention.
You may ask what is the restructuring all about? I am of the view that we should subject the constitution to be a plebiscite. Any clause that fails is expunged, those one that succeeds, we come with it then we can say we the people of Nigeria gave ourselves this constitution.
