Shettima a symbol of loyalty and hope, says Omo-Agege

Vice President Kashim Shettima epitomises the virtues of loyalty to ideals, vision, relationships and hope of a Nigeria driven by belief that the people can be returned to prosperity with the ongoing fundamental reforms of the economy, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the 9th Senate, has said.

In a goodwill message to the vice president on his 59th birthday, Senator Omo-Agege said in the midst of the challenges that usually characterise change and reforms, the former governor of Borno State has stood firm in his belief and consistent message that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is on the right track.

“As chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Senator Shettima, true to the assignment from the President, has been passionate in driving a new economic governance framework and ensuring a robust and coordinated economic planning and implementation module.

“With the calibre of top level economists and entrepreneurs that make up the EMT, the intellectualism, passion, leadership and vision of the Vice President have been at play in fostering the atmosphere of commitment and shared purpose in the team”, the Obarisi of Urhoboland stated.

He reiterated his belief that President Tinubu made the best choice in having Senator Shettima as partner in the onerous task of reshaping Nigeria. “Vice President Shettima is intellectually driven, espouses a broad and egalitarian vision of Nigeria, and strongly believes in a united country”, Omo-Agege said.

“I rejoice with His Excellency Vice President Shettima on this special occasion of his birthday and pray Almighty God to reinforce his strength and passion for the tasks ahead.

“Happy birthday, my friend and brother, on behalf of my family and associates.”

SATURDAY INTERVIEW: Submit yourself to constituted political order in APC – Ovuakporie, immediate past Delta APC Scribe tells Omo-Agege

… insists TInubu knows that the ex-DSP did not support him in 2022 primary

…Sobotie Knows how Omo-Agege treated us badly

Otunba Nick Ovuakporie is Executive Assistant (Political) to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State — and before that, he was the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State. His defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on the eve of the governorship election in 2023 served as a major blow to the aspiration of the then Deputy President of the Senate, DSP, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who was the APC’s governorship candidate in 2023.
Ovuakporie has since then been consistently in following the political steps of Governor Oborevwori and remarkably, followed him to the APC.

From his position of knowledge and experience he speaks on issues in the APC and the alleged aspirations of Senator Omo-Agege to challenge Oborevwori in the forthcoming 2027 election.Excerpt of an Interview with Otunba Nick Ovuakporie, Immediate Past State Scribe of the APC in Delta State

    Hear him:

There have been reports of late that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is considering challenging your boss for the 2027 election. How do you see the prospects of such?*

I would like to begin by affirming that no one can hold His Excellency, our Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborovwori to the jugular, as he remains the undisputed leader of the APC in Delta State.

The recent controversies and social media rants about someone claiming to contest against the governor in 2027 are baseless. The Governor’s developmental track records are overwhelming and have received support from the people of Delta State, who will ensure his re-election in 2027.

*You were the secretary of the APC in its critical formative years in Delta State. Can you tell us those who collaborated with you and how the party took shape in Delta State?*
The story of the APC in Delta State can not be told correctly without my input, having played a significant role in its administration as an insider and a major stakeholder. It is fundamental to note that the APC is not a personal fiefdom of any individual but a political party founded on progressive ideals and open to all who wish to join its ranks. This is exemplified by the fact that we admitted Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy President of the 9th Senate from the Labour Party. He was elected to represent Delta Central Senatorial District in the 8th Senate under the Labour Party platform and not the APC. He was not a founding member of the APC but joined us after the party was well established, under the leadership of the founding leader Olorogun O’tega Emerhor.

We took leadership from him and gave it to him upon his joining us, as he was the highest elected official of the party at that time.
*How really did you give backbone to Omo-Agege to be APC leader?*
We did everything within our powers to support him, including influencing and authenticating the parallel primary elections held at Mobile Base in Udu, where he contested against Olorogun O’tega Emerhor whose primaries held in Ughelli We supported him until he emerged as the deputy president of the 9th Senate. It’s on record that he never supported the Party to pay rents or for it’s day to day operations which you may verify from the State Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie neither did he reward anyone with the smallest contract from the billions of contracts he influenced during his tenure as DSP. The current State Publicity Secretary of the APC can be asked if he benefited from him, rather than bullying for the role he played in enabling him to win the Court of Appeal case that secured his victory.

*So do you see Omo-Agege or any other person challenging the governor in the forthcoming election?*

Why should any sane person challenge the Governor’s leadership? We can not have two captains in a boat. People make leaders, and those leaders must reciprocate the benevolence extended to them by the people who bestowed such leadership on them.

*Senator Nwaoboshi has alleged that some people in the presidency blackmailed Senator Omo-Agege before President Tinubu. Why do you think they did this?*

The assertion that some persons in the Villa blackmailed him before President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is also incorrect. The President himself was aware the former DSP did not support his emergence as the Party’s presidential flag bearer during the Presidential Convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja. He supported someone else, and this is an open fact. His actions against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continued into the 2023 general elections, having gone into a working pact with the Peter Obi led Labour Party with open endorsement which were widely circulated in the media space. Lies can not last for so long.

It is an incontrovertible fact that without me, Otunba Nick Ovuakporie, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege would not have had the leadership of the APC during his reign, including the present State, Wards, and Local Government Excos that gave him the support he never reciprocated. I took possession of the entire Congress materials singlehandedly without his support and handed over the structure of the Party to him, with my name all over the country. This feat earned him the leadership of the Party then, a position he misused to cause disaffection within the Party leadership ranks rather than using it to unite the Party. His poor iron clad leadership style caused Delta State, the Managing Director of the NDDC, which was supposed to accelerate development in Delta State.

I took so much risk and endangered my family for the sake of ungrateful tyrants. I make bold to say that the current State Exco, up to the wards, were my brainchild and came to being through my ingenuity. As such, he must submit to the new political order and stop heating up the polity. We will not allow anyone to distract the governor as we march towards the 2027 general elections.

The Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborovweri is the leader of the party, and everyone who claims to support our president genuinely must submit to the Governor’s leadership and queue behind to build the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda The governor has made every Deltan proud with his relentless desire to develop every part of the state, and he deserves our support and commendation.

The governor does not need to be distracted by noisemakers and subjected to any kind of mudsliding by those driven by selfish and inordinate ambitions with an unquenchable thirst for power.

  • MATTHEW ODIETE: Omo-Agege’s Toy Soldiers and the Needless Flex Over 2027

MATTHEW ODIETE: Omo-Agege’s Toy Soldiers and the Needless Flex Over 2027

    By Matthew Odiete

Ordinarily, the argument between Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s aides and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi over whether or not Nwaoboshi entreated the former Deputy Senate President not to vie for the APC ticket in the 2027 Gubernatorial primaries in order to preserve party tradition, unity and cohesion, should have been left as the words of two friends against each other.

Sadly and senselessly, in refuting Nwaoboshi’s said claim, Chuks Erhire, described as “a key aide to the former Deputy Senate President,” committed a reckless political blunder by needlessly abusing the Distinguished Senator and a pillar of the party in Delta North, and also insulted the intelligence of Deltans by dragging the name of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into their argument.

It would have been enough to simply restate Agege’s resolve to run, deny the said meeting or simply disagree with Nwaoboshi’s position, without the invectives poured on his Principal’s friend, but it was even most uncharitable and dishonourable to have descended into the political falsehood that Deltans are experiencing underdevelopment and impoverishment under the present administration.

While one can understand Agege’s bitterness and desperation, and the disillusionment of his soldiers, the lie in Erhire’s claim is too obvious to ignore, even though it is well known that dishonour, falsehood and empty propaganda are characteristic of their clan.

All across the state, Deltans have come to the conviction that Oborevwori is the best Governor the state has had.

They are pleased with the decisiveness with which he completed the Asaba-Ughelli Expressway, the major artery that connects the three districts of the state. So too are they pleased with the urban renewal of Warri/Effurun and environs with the three flyover bridges being constructed simultaneously; the addition of more flyovers at critical road sections in Agbor and Ughelli; the intensity of work on the Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri road; the completion of the Beneku Bridge and work on the Aboh-Akarai road; the Orhere Bridge; expanded Storm Water Drainage works in Asaba, Warri, Ika and various major city centres; the hundreds of major and internal road constructions across Aniocha, Oshimili, Ika, Ndokwa, Isoko, Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo lands, indeed across all the districts, local government areas and communities across the state, and especially the efforts towards on-boarding the coastal communities into more integrated economic life through the provision of critical infrastructure.

Oborevwori has maintained the same high performance in the education, health, agriculture, human capital development and various other sectors.

Except to satisfy their usual sense of denial, Agege’s soldiers are well aware that in the social sector, Oborevwori has uplifted over 250,000 lives through various empowerment schemes, swiftly solved the jigsaw of Local Government Pensions, maintained steady payment of State Public Service Pensioners, recently released N10 billion for the payment of backlog of pensions accumulated before his inception, and flagged off the Widows Welfare Programme in a powerful way, with over 10,000 beneficiaries.

In the energy sector, he has begun a new path, not only with the passing into law of the Delta State Electricity Act, but by immediately activating it with the signing of an MOU with the Rural Electrification Agency for the deployment of off-grid electricity to 471 unserved communities across the state, an initiative that is projected not only to infuse about $2.9 billion into the GDP of the state, but also calculated to generate over 30,000 jobs, while typically impacting positively on various social service institutions.

The list of his achievements and emerging legacies is endless. Deltans see his performance as sterling, visible and assuring. They know that they have never had it so good, and do not wish for a different Governor, talk less of an Agege, come 2027.

Though politics is free, it is no reason for an insect to think itself a bird. When it comes to electoral worth and value, Oborevwori has beaten Agege severally, from the polls to the tribunal and to the Supreme Court, and will always beat him, whether he decides to vie in the APC primaries or shies into the emerging coalition of hungry, angry and discredited old politicians, where he truly belongs.

The last election result makes that clear. Oborevwori 21 – 4 Agege. The 4 were only from his homestead, and was secured mostly by the crude bullying of his people.

If not for the delusion of ambition, Agege should know that Deltans do not credit him with any sense of character nor responsibility, the reason why they rejected him in preference for Oborevwori.

The syndrome of disorder, party indisciple and lack of team spirit in Agege’s camp have now again been demonstrated in their reference to new members of the APC as “tenants”, against the principles and values of the party, even as was re-echoed by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the reception rally in Asaba, that there are no old or new members in the party, not to talk of landlords and tenants.

It is by this same landlord mentality that Agege destroyed the APC in Delta State, with his disrespect for the founding fathers, chieftains and drivers like O’tega Emerhor, Great Ogboru, Festus Keyamo, Cairo Ojougbo, Stella Okotete, several executives of the party and even the Senators representing the three districts of the state.

It should be clear to Agege and his toy soldiers that his old game is up. For the avoidance of doubt, members of the APC, both at the state and national levels, know better now, notwithstanding his failed scampering, clinging on straw to consolidate his grip on the party structure when Oborevwori came in.

They can see that Delta APC is now refreshed, better organised, better managed, more united and energised with firmer hope under the leadeship of Oborevwori.

Only recently, the Chairmen of the party across the 25 local government areas expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the Governor in the delivery of development projects as well as in his leadership of the party.

“Governor Oborevwori has been a known performer. The projects across the state speak for themselves, and he is only getting better. Now that he is working directly and closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, things are even better than they were before. We are very proud of him, and Deltans are proud of him,” they said.

So, which APC is Agege and his aides bellyaching over? Should they even be reminded that the party is well aware of his dislike, disdain, disrespect and disloyalty to President Tinubu, and his suspected clandestine romance with opposition elements who surreptitiously promote banditry to destabilise the polity in pursuit of political gains?

Back home, if nothing else, it is extreme shame, no matter the desperation, that Agege would authorise his key aide to refer to Nwaoboshi, his old political ally, as “petty” and “mischief maker,” merely for purportedly saying he “entreated” him not to contest against the sitting Governor and leader of the party in the state.

Of course, he reserves the right to disregard the advice, but that should not lead to insult the adviser and to monger falsehood about the glaring good works of the Governor.

But, it all speaks to his inconsistency and unstable nature. He probably forgot that only last year, perhaps as it suited him then, he described Nwaoboshi as ‘a worthy leader, brother and friend who have consistently proven to be a champion we can trust to defend the best values, interests and overall good of all our people; a stabilising force in the complex political dynamics of our dear Delta State and, by extension, the Nigerian Project; always on the solid ground of justice, equity, and fairness; putting primordial politics and related sentiments aside; a great statesman with bold, positive leadership impacts; fiercely loyal to his sound convictions; and an inspiration to so many young people in politics.’

It is this same Nwaoboshi that Agege has authorised his young political aides to abuse profusely for the sake of a vaulting ambition which Deltans rejected yesterday, have rejected today, and would reject tomorrow and in 2027.

As Ola Rotimi wouid say, it is only sickness that can be cured, not death. Laughably, Agege does not seem to understand that he is politically dead, not because Oborevwori came into the APC, but because Deltans know that he lacks the political self-control, humility and loyalty expected of a true leader to the cause and aspirations of his people, and how he betrayed the leader who raised him in his shoulders in honour of the late revered patriarch from whose loins he came, and prodigiously frittered away the honour.

Unfortunately for him, dead men never know when they are dead nor when they are buried, and as for his so-called “pragmatic soldiers,” it is not unusual for flies without advisers to follow a corpse to its grave.

A word is enough for the wise…

  • One Year Of President Tinubu Administration: Greater Nigeria beckons, says Omo-Agege

One Year Of President Tinubu Administration: Greater Nigeria beckons, says Omo-Agege

    _…hails Tinubu’s economic reforms_

As the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration marks it’s first year anniversary, immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has urged Nigerians to continue to support the government, saying that the ongoing economic reforms were targeted at restoring the well-being of citizens and Nigeria’s dignity among the comity of nations.

Senator Omo-Agege in a statement he personally signed, expressed optimism that a greater Nigeria was in the offing with the reforms, noting that the present pains as a result of the economic policies of the Tinubu administration were temporary.

He said the president inherited an economy on the verge of collapse, adding that the tough reforms were required to chart a new course to bring it back from the brink.

Senator Omo-Agege hailed President Tinubu for not pretending about the near comatose state of the country by not taking populist decisions to excite the masses “in the short term but inflict monumental and irreparable damage on the economy in the medium and long term.”

Explaining the economic policies, Omo-Agege stated that the administration started by tackling “head-on the main challenges facing the oil and gas industry. He abolished the duplicitous oil subsidy regime that only enriched a few but continued haemorrhaging the economy.

“Then he decisively waged war on crude oil theft that had brought crude oil production to unprecedented low levels.

“By complimenting the aggressive efforts of the Nigerian Navy through the involvement of private organisations in strengthening the protection of the country’s oil and gas infrastructure, export has been stabilised.

“The direct impact of the increased production spurred a 37 percent growth in Nigeria’s oil export in 2023. Crude oil export revenue hit N29 trillion in 2023, a 37 percent increase compared to N21.1 trillion recorded in 2022.

“The upswing has continued as production hit 1.7 million barrels per day in May, the highest in four years and the path to hitting OPEC quota of about two million barrels per day.”

He said the inevitable pains associated, initially, with the economic decisions have only shown that the president is not inspired by thoughts of 2027 elections but by the desire to fix the country.

“Having reached the nadir of decline, Nigeria needed a comprehensive reset to purge the people of false living and make a detour to a life of reality, even if it meant a fresh beginning.

“President Tinubu’s economic agenda and policies are targeted at restoring the confidence of the investors, local and foreign, promoting stability and long term corporate planning and necessary investment decisions,” he stated.

According to him, “in unifying the multiple foreign exchange markets, President Tinubu eliminated the corruption-ridden system that gave access to mainly unproductive people within the corridors of power to foreign exchange, leaving out the real sector. Gradually, the naira is finding its real and sustainable value while creating the ambience for exports to thrive.

“His measures are not lost on the international business community many of whom are revving up to enter the lucrative Nigerian market.

“It is still morning in President Tinubu’s mission of pulling Nigeria back from the cliffhanger he inherited. He is on the right track even though the process may manifest some pains.

“He needs the unflinching support of every Nigerian as a greater tomorrow beckons. As the president marks his first year in office, we urge him to continue on the path of reforms that will restore the country’s dignity among the comity of nations.”

Ex-DSP Ovie Omo-Agege’s home coming: Supporters set up six cttees for his reception slated for April 6

Supporters of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege have sent up six functional committees to prepare grounds for his home coming reception slated for April 6, 2024.

This was contained in a press release signed by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh stating that:

“A few weeks ago, a respectable gathering of elected, appointed and other leaders of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) met in Abuja where they unanimously agreed to host a homecoming celebration ceremony in honour of the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Most Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR for what is generally considered his extraordinary achievements in office.

“The meeting was ably led and co-chaired by Senator Ede Dafinone and Senator Joel Onowakpo who represent Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial District respectively in the 10th Senate. The Oracle of Politics, the Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is also now a Co-chair of Organising Committee.

“To give full effect to its plan to appreciate Senator Omo-Agege for his meteoric, bold and impactful leadership successes in public governance at the national level, the Organising Committee swiftly constituted 6 functional subcommittees, including an Advisory Committee of eminent, respectable and senior Deltans. The event, which is taking place on 6th April, 2024 at Oil City Motel, Ughelli Town, promises to host the crème de la crème of society, especially in politics and public governance.

“That Senator Omo-Agege achieved phenomenal achievements in the National Assembly is a fact easily attested to by even his fiercest critics. Despite his late arrival to the Senate in 2016 (instead of 2015), Omo-Agege is duly recognized as one of the highest sponsors of bills and motions in his time in the National Assembly.

“This exemplary lawmaking record started in 2016 with the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) Establishment Act – a law he thoughtfully drafted and masterfully engaged with his colleagues and the executive branch not only to give a sustainable legal legislative framework to the institution, but to grant it the unique status of a ‘strategic national asset’ within the Nigerian oil and gas sector. An uncommon resourceful feat hardly talked about.

“With the FUPRE Act in our people’s kitty, the Obarisi of Urhoboland again moved boldly for an Act to establish the Federal Polytechnic Orogun (FEPO), and got it. Enjoying a great friendship with former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR who gave his sweeping approval to Obarisi’s quest to establish the institution as a centre of innovation for modern research, Omo-Agege went all out to ensure the construction and takeoff of FEPO. Today, FEPO is alive and running well.

“Again, with his FEPO vision clarified and running through deliberate actions, Senator Omo-Agege identified another great opportunity in the academic environment and took it when he secured the Federal Government’s approval for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale. Another legacy act in productive representative leadership.

“In terms of infrastructural projects and human development, Senator Omo-Agege’s enviable legacy of resourceful, impactful and innovative approach to public governance is evident in Nigeria, Delta’s three senatorial districts, and more particularly in virtually all communities in Delta Central. With him, a great number of our leaders and people have made undeniable positive gains in the public and private sectors. A noiseless helper of our people.

“Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s politics of inclusion has also brought tremendous progressive gains to our people. Calling up on all his unique strengths, he has worked with other leaders to grow the electoral and appointive fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and beyond. His campaign to govern Delta State in the last general elections clearly speaks to our people’s overwhelming approval of his organic populist leadership. A leader with uncommon courage, progressive values and convictions and firm faith in the power of the people.

“It is to these ends and much more that our people are overjoyed with the homecoming celebration ceremony in honour of Obarisi Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. The wisdom behind the idea itself is unassailable. We urge our people everywhere to come out in their numbers to be part of this momentous occasion in recognition of outstanding leadership and sterling achievements.

OKUAMA crisis: Omo-Agege appeals, says hate and violence must not prevail

…consoles families of bereaved soldiers and innocent civilians

    …seeks independent investigative panel

The immediate past Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has appealed to all parties in the Okuama crisis saying hate and violence must not prevail.

Omo-Agege made this appeal in a statement he personally signed stating that:

“Recent developments in and around Okuama Community in Ewu Clan of Ughelli South, Delta State which touch gravely on our national security and the collective peace of our people are very concerning and demand the best of our leadership to manage for the good of all.

“The confirmed gruesome killing of 17 personnel of the Nigerian Army, including a Lieutenant Colonel, 2 Majors and a Captain, who were reportedly on a ‘peace mission’ is utterly shocking. That act is a grave crime against the State, and I unequivocally condemn this appalling attack against our men in uniform in the strongest terms possible.

” Such extreme bloody violence has no place of comfort in our society, and it is clearly inconsistent with the traditional warm hospitality of all our people, including Urhobos and Ijaws.

” On behalf of all our peace-loving people, I send my most sincere condolence to all officers and men of our Armed Forces and the grieving families of our fallen heroes. Their loss is our nation’s collective loss, and we sincerely identify with them in our solemn thoughts and prayers. We trust God to comfort them and grant the souls of our fallen heroes rest.

” I am also deeply concerned about the reported killing of innocent civilians and the destruction of homes and other properties, and the humanitarian crisis that is emerging. A mass of innocent civilians, including women and children, should not pay for any crime they didn’t commit under any circumstances. Collective punishment is never justified.

“While our prayers are with all of the families who have been hurt by this violence, I urge our military personnel to show restraint in its operations to restore order to the Okuama community by not wiping out innocent civilians on account of a few misguided criminals.

“This is not a time for blame games and precipitous conclusions. It is a moment for solemn reflections. For the good of all, those who brutally cut short the lives of the officers and men of our Armed Forces must be found and punished according to law. We have a duty to dig deep to know the exact facts and ultimately the truth of what led to this national tragedy. This requires an impartial and thorough investigation of all the issues that brought our people to this terribly concerning point where invitation of military intervention became the preferred and necessary option to secure civil peace and security between communities that have co-habited harmoniously for centuries.

” I therefore call on the Federal Government to set up an independent investigation panel, with representatives of the National Human Rights Commission and representatives of human rights-leaning Non-Governmental Organizations and notable professional bodies to unearth the remote causes of this crisis and those behind the killing of our gallant officers and soldiers. We must get to the very bottom of this matter.

“Meanwhile, I count on our political, religious and community leaders, amongst others, to engage our people who are directly and indirectly impacted by this grave matter to embrace peace for our collective peace, even as we ask and task the Army to embrace maximum restraint in its response. The law and fundamental tenets of morality and good conscience are against the collective punishment of a people for the sins of a few.

“We count on our governments at the Federal, State and Local levels to step up efforts to ameliorate the sufferings of ordinary, innocent communal people who are affected by this matter. Working with our trusted elected representatives, especially in the National Assembly, we will do all that we can to bring succour to our elderly, women, children, and all who have been internally displaced by this tragic challenge and its traumatic aftereffects on their lives. We call on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to quickly step in to help everyone who is suffering by the reason of this issue. In this regard, we thank every Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) that has activated quick response teams to monitor and offer much need support and encourage them to continue to help.

“We need peace and security to build a better society for ourselves and future generations. May the good Lord help all our people and nation to overcome every design to tear us down and apart.

Omo-Agege preaches ‘Renewed hope’, peace, unity at Christmas

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Yuletide celebrations to renew their hope and commitment to the greatness of Nigeria and promotion of the values of tolerance, brotherhood and unity among all groups in the country.

In his Christmas message, Senator Omo-Agege also called on Christians to imbibe the virtues of hope, humility and love which are the hallmarks of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Christmas celebrations, he noted, offer Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on God’s love and compassion for man as epitomized in the gift of His only begotten son for man’s salvation.

He said such reflections would help Nigerians understand why they should respect rights and privileges enshrined in the Constitution, especially the right to life and to enjoy peaceful co-existence with their neighbours.

The Obarisi stated that God’s purpose of sending Jesus Christ into the world is to bring salvation to humanity, an action that demonstrates His love for mankind.

According him, if Nigerians allow these virtues to guide their daily lives, our society will experience less acrimony, criminality, terrorism, war and other social ills confronting our world today.

He said: “Christmas brings a powerful message: a call for all Christians to reach out to others, be our brothers’ keepers, forgive and let the light of our good deeds shine for all as we care for the sick, the hungry, the downtrodden and others at the verge of despair. It embodies hope as essence of life.

“There is so much good to be done by every citizen, and as we celebrate Christmas now, we urge our people to embrace love, unity and ‘Renewed Hope’ that has been aptly captured into our national consciousness at this critical moment in our nation’s history, as we march towards a great future as one people.”

Appeal Court verdict: A redemption deferred, says Omo-Agege

The former Deputy President of the Senate and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has described today’s judgement of the Court of Appeal in the appeal he filed against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State as a redemption deferred for Deltans.

While he deeply respects their Lordships, Senator Omo-Agege is convinced that the learned justices clearly misapprehended the reformed electoral jurisprudence that now prevails to deepen democracy in the country.

In a statement issued after the decision and signed by his Media Adviser, Mr. Sunny Areh, Obarisi Omo-Agege said he firmly believes that justice is yet to be given to the people of Delta State who voted for him and the APC.

“We will proceed to the Supreme Court. The issues at stake touch on the future and wellbeing of the people who voted for a New Delta. We have a duty to respect them by defending their faith in us with every sense of diligence and responsibility. We don’t waver on what is right.

“I am confident that the revered Justices of the Supreme Court will examine the areas overlooked at the Appeal Court and give justice to our people,” he said.

Delta guber: Integrity group accuses Omo-Agege, APC, says they’re behind bribery allegations

… insists they’re purveyors of fake story

The Integrity Group of Delta State has accused chieftains of the All Progressives Congress APC in the state and its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of being behind the faceless group accusing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of bribery allegations.

A group under the aegis of Delta State Transparency and Accountability In Political Litigations (TAPL) had accused Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of allegedly spending billions in attempt to ‘buy’ Appeal Court Judgment.

Reacting to the false accusation by the faceless group, Chairman and Convener of Integrity Group of Delta, Hon. Oke Idawene accused leaders of the opposition of orchestrating lies to demonise the Governor before the general public.

According to Idawene, PDP has been in control in Delta and has won all elections in Delta State since 1999. The result of the 2023 General Election is a clear testament of this fact.

“Winning in 21 out of 25 Local Government Areas is a no mean feat and if anybody is being accused of trying to influence the judiciary, it should be those who won only four local government areas and not the other way round”.

Idawene said: “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has no reason to offer bribe in an election he won clean and clear. One should even wonder why a man who won in four local government areas out of 25 should go to the tribunal in the first instance.

“Their decision to challenge outcome of an election where they failed woefully, calls for worry and shows their level of desperation to take over Delta through the court, banking on perhaps on bribing the judges. However, we have absolute confidence in the judiciary as the only hope of the common man.

“Those trying to use money to buy Delta are not popular as they have been rejected over time by the people and the PDP should monitor them to ensure that they don’t hatch their plot.

“We have also confirmed that the said is faceless and has no registered identity as the signatories are not also known.”
