… blasts Okowa for powering Govt House while Asaba is in darkness

Deputy Senate President and Delta APC Governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has censured Delta’s Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for lighting up Government House and leaving the residents of Asaba and environs in darkness.

Senator Omo-Agege stated this Wednesday, February 1, when the ongoing ward to ward campaigns of APC touched ground at Oko, Okwe and Umuaji-Asaba, all in Oshimil South LGA.

He said Governor Okowa abandoned the 28 megawatts Independent Power Plant, IPP, project initiated by the previous administration and designed to power the entire State capital, in favour of a 5 megawatts IPP only able to power Government House and Commissioners’ quarters, leaving the entire Asaba metropolis and environs in darkness.

He lamented that Asaba does not wear the fit and proper look of a capital even after the state governor has received over 4.2 trillion naira and borrowed so heavily.

“I am very angry, we are all angry at the misgovernance and misappropriation of state funds by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the past seven and a half years. This is Asaba, Delta State capital. If for nothing else, we owe Asaba a duty to develop the State capital. Governor Okowa cannot give satisfactory account of what he has done with over 4.2 trillion naira, yet the State is over borrowed with no significant Infrastructure on ground anywhere commensurate to inflow.

“The Osadebey University in Asaba is a signboard because he has not added a block to the former structures of the Anwai campus of Delta State University that he converted to Osadebey University.

“But I commit to you that when I become governor, I will make Asaba wear the proper look of a State capital. I have given this commitment to the Asagba of Asaba. Government House and Commissioners’ quarters that are powered by Governor Okowa do not produce jobs for the people. When I become governor I will revisit the 28 megawatts IPP project to power the entire Asaba and environs so that businesses can operate; so that we can attract investor companies to come in and provide jobs for the youths.”

“I also commit to fix the yearly flooding which Governor Okowa has neglected to pursue his ill fated vice presidential ambition. I will tackle the problem using the Balloon Technology.”

He said he would fix roads in the State capital and adjoining towns that fall within the Asaba capital territory. “When I become governor, I will construct Oko and Okwe roads. In fact, I have already fixed the Oko 28km road into the NDDC budget and by this time next year it would have been done from Asaba to Oko.”

Earlier on, State Chairman of the APC, Elder Omeni Sobotie, said Okwe was supposed to be part and parcel of Asaba township but because of the wickedness of Governor Okowa, the road to the community is in disrepair. He urged the people to support all candidates of the APC in the elections for a change from the bitter pains inflicted on them by Governor Okowa and the PDP, “because the wickedness of the wicked will soon come to an end.”

Dr Mrs Ngozi Olejeme, former National Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Chairman, told the people that Senator Omo-Agege is a dependable ally who will improve the living standards of the people. She said that as a tested and trusted daughter of the Anioma nation, her choice of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as governor was well thought out, and supported by the people.

2023: After 7years, Okowa can’t show what he spent N3.5trn on in Delta- Omo-Agege alleges

Deputy Senate President and Delta APC guber candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged that there is nothing that looks like the N3.5 trillion naira that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has received from various sources in the past seven and half years.

Omo-Agege made the assertion while continuing his ward to ward campaign at Ukwuani local government area , Tuesday, December 6. He said that no state in the history of Nigeria has received the type of resources of Delta has received, but the state remains one of the least developed in the country.

Senator Omo-Agege warned the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, and People’s Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, of the legal consequences of approving and authorizing loans to the governor that are later misappropriated.

He said a critical assessment of infrastructure across Delta State ridicules the sobriquet of “road master” that Okowa once gave himself, as there is practically nothing on ground to account for the over 3.5 trillion receipts by his administration.

“Today, the people and ancestors of Ukuani have rejected Okowa. Okowa is a weak foundation who should not even bring a successor not to mention that unfortunate choice of his. We are here to make a solemn pledge to get rid of Okowa and everything that he represents at the polls. We are here to build a new Delta of true prosperity; a secure society that thrives on equitable planning and appropriation of resources.”

Earlier, Senator Omo-Agege had commissioned various federal government intervention projects executed at his alma mater, St George’s College, Obinomba, during which he also awarded scholarship to an SS3 student, Miss Christabel Onomoin, up to university level.

The projects included a 100 bed capacity hostel for boys and girls each, a two floor classroom block, an E-library and administrative building.

He further pledged the provision of 30,000 gallon water tank to take care of an increased pupil enrolment of the school, construction of the internal road network, with solar powered lights on roads and perimeters of the school.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Senator Omo-Agege said the gesture was his contribution to improving the standard of education in Delta State because he believes the quality of education made available to students enhances their productivity and contribution to society.

“What we did is a clarion call to the State government which has failed to tackle the problems confronting the school. But this school laid the foundation of who I am today and this is my way of giving back to my alma mater.

During a courtesy visit, Senator Omo-Agege was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Chiyeni Ugo 1, (who God has given the crown) of Umutu kingdom by HRH, Sunday Enwueliku Ossai, the Okpala-Uku of Umutu kingdom.

Constitution Amendment: Omo-Agege urge states Houses of Assembly to pass bill in the interest of Nigerians

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the Chairman, National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review and Deputy Senate, has urged the remaining 25 States Houses of Assembly, who are yet to pass the Constitution amendment bills to do so in the interest of Nigerians.

He said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Omo-Agege said that the committee recommended 66 Constitution Alteration Bills for passage by the states, saying however,  that only 44 bills were approved.

He said that bills included the local government financial autonomy and the inauguration of senators and lawmakers-elect bill.

Omo-Agege said that six months after the transmission of the bills to states assembly, 25 out of them were yet to vote on the bills.

“It is most disheartening that only states houses of assembly 11 have demonstrated their independence and loyalty to the constitution regarding the 44 bills,” he said.

Omo-Agege listed the states assembly who approved the bills to include Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun and Osun.

“These states have successfully considered, voted on and forwarded their resolutions on the 44 bills to the National Assembly.

“More worrisome is that while we are still expecting the receipt of the resolutions of the remaining houses of assembly, we received a letter from the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly informing the National Assembly that the remaining states will not act on the 44 Bills.

“The letter indicated that they could only approve the bills when the National Assembly passes four new bills they have proposed,” he said.

He said that the new bills sought to amend the Constitution to establish states police; states judicial council, as well as streamlining the procedure for removing of presiding officers of states houses of assembly and the institutionalisation of legislative bureaucracy in the Constitution.

He said that the national assembly was in no way averse to passing bills or memoranda appropriately tabled before it, at any time.

“However, it is legally inappropriate for the conference of speakers to use the four Bills as a quid pro quo (a favour or advantage granted in return for something) to act on the 44 Bills,” he said.

Omo-Agege said that the Bills transmitted to the state assembly were not about members of the National Assembly.

“It transcends our personal and political interests. It is about the people who have graciously given us the temporary privilege to serve them,” he said.

Omo-Agege attributes poverty, political instability to Leadership failure

The Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has attributed the prevailing poverty, political instability, insurgence and collapse of government institutions to leadership failure.

Omo-Agege made the observation on Saturday at the 5th Annual Leadership Lecture/Graduation Ceremony of the Value Rebirth-Centre-LSD Leadership School, Effurun/Warri in Delta.

The senator, who was represented by Mr Mathew Omonade, said he believed in unity and urged people to enthrone sound ethical leadership rooted in respect, honesty, service, equity, justice and community service.

Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship flagbearer in Delta, noted that over the years, poor leadership had frustrated the achievement of the country’s enormous economic and political potential.

“But all is not lost because State and nation-building all over the world have been and remain a permanent work in progress.

“As we move towards leadership selection in 2023, the leaders we need now should posses knowledge, sound Judgment and commitment to specific causes and ideals,” he said.

The senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District said that the country needed leaders with good moral conduct and ethical responsibility to attend to Nigerians’ demands, needs and problems.

Omo-Agege, however, noted that genuine leadership also needed honest, courageous and credible followership less vulnerable to manipulation, adding that followership was an indispensible aspect of leadership.

He said the stability and progress of the country required the deployment of deliberate commitment by citizens and those entrusted with leadership to advance the national agenda, regardless of challenges.

Also, Mr Monday Osasah, Executive Director, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (CENTRE LSD), said the leadership school was a flagship programme of the Leadership Institute, adding that it started in 2009.

He said the idea was borne out of the realisation that leadership was a major challenge, especially in Africa.

Osasah said the Centre LSD Leadership School was designed for people who wanted to become leaders and be equipped with leadership skills for the transformation of organisation and society.

“Aside the Leadership School in Abuja, the Centre is running similar school in Warri, Benin-City, Port Harcourt, Abakaliki and Jos in Plateau State.

“This Effurun/Warri Delta annex of the school is run in collaboration with Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative (VREI),” he said.

Earlier, Pastor Edewor Egedegbe, Executive Director, VREI, said the centre was graduating 101 students.

He said it had now graduated 359 students since inception in 2017, adding that 200 students had been admitted
for it’s 2022/2023 Leadership Academic Session.

Speaking on the theme of the lecture, the guest lecturer, Mr Johnson Ikube said that Nigerians must acknowledge that there were challenges confronting the nation.

Ikube urged people to vote for competency and not popularity in the 2023 general elections.

He advocated for the decentralisation of government, noting that the system would function better under a decentrised arrangement.

“Leaders should move from the government of business to the government of governance. There is poverty in the land. Mankind must put an end to the war or war will put an end to mankind.

“We have gotten to a level where human life has become meaningless, not only in Nigeria but in the entire world,” he said.

Ikube expressed worries over the wrong use of social media, saying that it had heightened insecurity in the society.

He said that Nigerians must unite and restore the glory of the country, stressing that, “this is our country, we must keep hope alive and join hands together to bring it back to the good old days.

  • Delta 2023: Sen. Omo-Agege congratulates APC candidates

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the Senate and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 governorship election in Delta State, has felicitated with those that emerged victorious in the party’s primaries.

In a statement by Ima Niboro, Director, Communications and Media Strategy, Ovie Omo-Agege Campaign Organisation, he expressed confidence that the winners would defeat the PDP in Delta in the various elections next year.

Thenewsguru.com reports that the APC had adopted Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi unopposed as its Delta North Senatorial District candidate for the 2023 senatorial elections.

Other senatorial aspirants returned unopposed by the party are Chief Ede Dafinone and Chief Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts respectively.

Mr Francis Waive was also elected the party’s candidate for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency.

Omo-Agege congratulated other APC candidates in other federal constituencies and state assembly seats in the state.

He described the APC primaries as a sign of good things to come in the state.

According to him, the outcome of the elections is a victory for the Delta APC family, as it has demonstrated the capacity to work together for the good of the party and the state as a whole.

Their mandates, he noted, should be seen as a collective effort, adding that they should unite APC members in the overall interest of the party in the 2023 general elections.

“The outcome of the primaries will best be described as no victor no vanquished, as all the aspirants gave a good account of themselves and congratulated each other for a good contest,” he said.

He lauded the leadership of the party for ensuring the success of the primary election and for effectively mobilizing its members to participate fully in the electoral process.
