If those jostling to remove the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, think they can succeed in doing so, they have another thing coming.

The Deputy Director of Media for the party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, Hanatu Musawa, stated on Monday that the talk about removing Adamu on exist on the social media.

Hannatu made the clarification when she appeared on Politics Today on Channels Television.

She then went ahead to pass a vote of confidence on Senator Adamu.

“We have full confidence in him and I don’t think anything is going to change in that regard.

“I think most of what you are hearing in the news is not the official position of the party but talks around social media. Most leaders of the party and even the NEC are in support of his leadership.”

Her position comes ahead of the NEC meeting with the NWC members, which political pundits have predicted may decide the fate of the APC national chairman.

She expressed the belief that the outcome of the meeting will have little or nothing to do with Adamu’s removal.

“I think what you are going to see is a vote of confidence on the APC leadership of Senator Adamu as we have no plan to remove him ahead of the election.

“As a party, we want to go into this election united and unity comes from the top. Adamu has been able to navigate the party to where it is today,” she added.

TheNewsGuru reports that many have insinuated that Senator Adamu would be removed as the APC National Chairman in view of the discomfort he has put the party and his obvious partisan role during the party’s presidential primaries.

  • I am not aware of APC loss in Osun

I am not aware of APC loss in Osun

The National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has denied knowledge his party lost in last weekend’s governorship election in Osun State.

He stated this when he appeared on Arise TV programme on Sunday.

Senator Adamu said he was unaware a winner had emerged in the aftermath of Saturday’s Osun election, and told his interviewer he would get back to them when he gets the news.

He also denied knowledge that INEC had announced the result and insisted he needed to first hear from Nigeria’s election umpire.

The national chairman’s position is coming in the wake of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s loss to the candidate of the PDP, Ademola Adeleke.

TheNewsGuru had reported that when Governor Oyetola was asked to make a statement after the election, the governor said the leadership of the APC in the state will respond to the result of Saturday’s governorship poll after studying it.

He also called on his supporters to remain calm, and go about their respective businesses without fomenting trouble or resulting to violence.

His loss in Saturday’s poll has, however, come to the APC national chair as a surprise.

Abdullahi Adamu retorted to the presenter, “With due respect, my dear brother, I am just really hearing this from you. I have not formally heard the announcement from INEC, which is the independent commission responsible for election in Nigeria.

“I have not heard from them yet. Once I hear formally from INEC, I can be in a position to answer this particular question.”

When reminded that the results and the breakdown of the ballots from the 30 local government areas were all over the pages of major newspapers across the country, Adamu remained adamant.

“Between me and you, I have not formally heard from INEC and I have not read the papers you are talking about. I do read some papers on my table before I have my breakfast but I haven’t done that today yet,” he said.

Upon further prodding on whether the party will accept defeat if he finally gets to see the result and breakdown of voting pattern, the APC chair stuck to his gun.

“I don’t like pre-empting my situation. You need to be patient. Since you got the result, wait for me too to receive it. You can get back to me and I will be willing to talk about it,” he said

“Until I hear from INEC formally or my people in the control room confirm that it is the result, of course, I will abide by it. But hearing the result first from you is unacceptable. You are not INEC.”

According to him, he has yet to even speak with the APC candidate after the poll that gave the opposition PDP the victory.

  • APC CONVENTION: Adamu set up 18 subcommittees

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has inaugurated 18 sub-committees, which kicked off the three-day special convention/presidential primary of the party.

The committees were inaugurated on Sunday at the party’s Abuja national secretariat in Abuja.

Twenty-three aspirants are in the race for the presidential ticket to fly the party’s flag next year.

The primary slated for Eagle Square in Abuja will be attended by the 2,340 elected delegates from 774 local government areas. The delegates will elect the standard-bearer.

Adamu urged members of the committees to put in their best to have a rancour-free convention.

Stressing the uniqueness of the convention to the committee chairmen and their secretaries, the national chairman said: “The convention this year is a bit different from the other conventions. It is different because it is the first transition convention of our great party.

“The forthcoming convention will be expected within our constitution to produce the flag bearer of our great party to contest the presidential slot.

“We are very careful that we chose different persons to be part of the committees that have been enumerated by the national secretary.

“We assigned the committees at the thoughts and discretion of the party. So, it is our prayers and hopes that every person who is allotted a committee will be satisfied to give his or her best to serve in the slot that is given to him or her.”

Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, who chairs the Election Management Committee, assured the APC leadership of the committees’ readiness to ensure a widely acceptable flag bearer.

Speaking for others, Bagidu said members of the various committees will bring their experiences to bear.

Calling for cooperation among all the committees: “At a time like this is for all of us to cooperate given what the chairman says clearly and what is known to us. As he said, it is a convention like no other which is intended by God’s grace to produce a presidential flag bearer.”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that there was mild drama when Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum kicked against the nomination of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the sole member of the Central Storing Committee for the convention by the National Secretary, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

The development forced the National Chairman and Secretary to name Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello as co-chair.

The Eagle Square looked set for today’s convention. The pavilion had been decorated and labelled for delegates according to their states. Armed policemen were seen yesterday night at strategic positions in the arena.

Billboards, banners and posters of all the presidential aspirants adorn the arena.

  • APC National Chairman orders immediate withdrawal from court all cases appealed by Buni’s committee

APC National Chairman orders immediate withdrawal from court all cases appealed by Buni’s committee

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has directed that all cases appealed by Buni’s committee be immediately withdrawn from court, following his concern about finances of the party.

Sequel to Adamu’s concern about the party’s finance, his predecessor and Caretaker Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni, had given standing instructions to lawyers representing the APC to appeal court judgments challenging the conduct of congresses supervised by the caretaker committee.

One of the appealed judgments was that of the Federal High Court recognising the Akwa Ibom State faction of the APC led by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over that of the erstwhile Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.

However, in a letter signed by the Head, Legal Services of the APC, which was addressed to Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) & Company dated April 6, 2022, it was stated that the new chairman had directed that all cases appealed by Buni’s committee be immediately withdrawn from court.

The letter titled, ‘Notice of Withdrawal of Instruction’, relates to a case marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1635/2021 between Stephen Ntukekpo and three others vs. the APC and three others.

It read in part, “I have the instruction of the national legal adviser to convey the decision of the leadership of the party to obey the judgment in respect of the above captioned suit having been served with the same.

“Our instruction on the above matter was terminated at the Federal High Court. Consequently, the party is not interested in pursuing the appeal in respect of the above matter.

“I have further instructions of the national legal adviser to request that you withdraw all the processes filed on behalf of the party and H.E. Mai Mala Buni, the erstwhile national chairman of the CECPC, at the Court of Appeal.”

It was gathered that the APC had begun withdrawing all the cases from the Court of Appeal.

On Thursday, the APC lawyer, Adeniyi Akintola, informed the court that the party would be withdrawing its appeal, effectively recognising Akpabio’s faction over that of Akpanudoedehe.

The court presided over by Justice Haruna Tsamani alongside Justice Ugochukwu Ogakwu and Justice Bature Gafai said that was the right thing to do since the APC had withdrawn from the case.

Counsel for the plaintiffs, Chief Umeh Kalu, SAN, and counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission, Umar Farouk, SAN, did not oppose the withdrawal.

However, the court ordered that the status quo be maintained until the determination of the motions for jurisdiction and stay of execution, which comes up on May 17.

Top sources in the APC said Adamu’s new approach could destabilise the party.

An APC chieftain, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “The best thing for Senator Adamu to have done was to allow the cases to run their course. There are over 200 cases in court at the moment. He should have let them continue.

“What the new national chairman is doing now is to reverse Buni’s actions and those who feel slighted will be forced to leave the party,” a source said.
