Aftermath of the Supreme court judgement which dismissed the case between Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and David Sabo Kente, the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rescheduled a fresh gubernatorial primary election for Taraba state, slated for 10th February 2023.

This was contained in a statement released by the party and made available to newsmen in Jalingo by the state party publicity secretary, Aaron Artimas, stating that the fresh primary election will take place at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo.

    The statement reads in parts:

“This is to notify all members of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State, particularly gubernatorial candidates that the National Secretariat of the party has scheduled to organise fresh gubernatorial primaries for Taraba State on Friday 10th February 2023.

“To this end, all concerned are advised to prepare themselves for the exercise. The fresh Primaries will take place at the Jolly Nyame Stadium on the stated date of Friday, 10th February 2023.

Supreme Court Judgement: Taraba APC Chairman insists that campaigns must continue

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has maintained that its governorship campaign cannot be stopped despite the Supreme Court judgment nullifying the primary election in which Senator Emmanuel Bwacha emerged as its candidate.

The party’s Chairman, Ibrahim El-Sudi, who made a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, noted that the party takes primary preference ahead of the candidate.

Recall that on Wednesday, the apex court set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Yola Division, reinstating Bwacha as the APC governorship candidate in the state.

“The Supreme Court decision doesn’t stop anything because it is the right of an individual to go to court and they have exhausted it. And the Supreme Court has now ordered that there should be a fresh primary election.

“As far as litigation is concerned, we are not in control obviously; it is the right of an individual to go to court. It is his right to purchase forms and then contest. The constitution equally gives him the right to go to court and we have no control over that,” he said.

According to El-Sudi, the court has said no primary election was held and the party has accepted it.

“We cannot say otherwise. That is the position of the Supreme Court and we are bound by it,” he stated.

The APC chairman added he is looking forward to conducting a fresh election, which he said would take place in the event that the National Secretariat of the party gives the state chapter a new date.

“There will be a level playing field. And obviously, I am not the person to conduct the fresh primary election.

“It is the National Secretariat that appoints persons to go and conduct such fresh primary elections.

“All I am to do is give them an enabling environment for them to operate smoothly and then come out with a result,” he said.
