PDP tackles Senate over Senator Natasha’s resumption rejection

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned outrightly the actions of the Clerk to the Assembly, while the senator representing Kogi central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to get ready to resume her duties at the Senate.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria in a memo dated September 4, 2025 and addressed to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, stated that the senator would not be allowed to resume her duties.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate for six months, starting from March 6, 2025. The six months elapsed on Friday, September 5, 2025.

However, attempts by the senator to resume her duties are being frustrated by the leadership of the Senate.

Reacting to the development, the spokesman of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, charged the lawmaker to ignore the Clerk’s memo.

“This reported action by the Clerk of the National Assembly smacks of a calculated attempt being orchestrated by the Senator Akpabio-led All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate leadership to abridge the right of representation of the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District and deny them a voice at the highest law-making body in the country.

“The attempt to use the National Assembly establishment against an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in gross violation of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999 (as amended) and the Standing Rules of the Senate is highly provocative and constitutes a clear and present danger to democracy and overall stability of our country.

“It also comes as parts of the antics being deployed severally by the APC-controlled Senate and the Federal Government to suffocate the opposition which further confirms the creeping totalitarianism in our country under the APC government.

“The reported action by the Clerk of the National Assembly against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan further brings to the fore the allegations of attacks on the right of women and sustained attempts to stifle their voices as witnessed in the various accusations of harassment against women levelled against the current Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio over the years,” the PDP said.

The party demanded that the Senate President should come clean on the various allegations of sexual harassment against him, instead of seeking to use the National Assembly establishment to further harass, intimidate and keep Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan away from the Senate.

Continuing, the PDP said, “The extreme persecution of six months suspension unjustly imposed on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, contrary to the Rules of the Senate is more than enough and the PDP stands with the people of Kogi Central and all well-meaning Nigerians in condemning this unwarranted renewed attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“Our party strongly cautions the Clerk of the National Assembly to withdraw the said letter and play by the rules by being neutral as a bureaucrat and not allow himself to be politically entangled and used as a tool to undermine democracy and the Rule of Law in the National Assembly and Nigeria.

“The PDP calls on the International Community, Democracy Institutions, Right Advocacy Groups and other democracy development partners to rise up in condemnation of this renewed attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“While charging Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to discountenance the reported letter by the Clerk of the National Assembly and get ready to resume at the Senate, the PDP demands that the Senate leadership ensures that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is allowed to resume her duties and perform her roles as an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria unhindered.”

Power at play; Senator Natasha almost blocked from boarding UK flight

Powerful forces at play as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was briefly “detained” at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.

The senator, who represents Kogi Central, was reportedly stopped by immigration officers and informed that she could not proceed with her journey due to her name being placed on a watch list—allegedly at the request of the leadership of the National Assembly.

A family member familiar with the situation said the lawmaker was travelling alongside her husband to attend the graduation ceremony of her stepson in the UK when officials at the departure terminal intercepted her.

“She was told that the leadership of the National Assembly requested that she be considered a flight risk and placed on a watch list,” the source disclosed.

“We are wondering why they treated her that way, given there is no court order restricting her movement, and she has never missed any of her court appearances.”

The incident caused a stir among travellers and airport staff members.

The development comes amid a deepening rift between the senator and the leadership of the Senate.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is challenging her suspension from the Senate, which followed her rejection of the reassignment of her seat during plenary.

She later levelled allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The federal government has also initiated two criminal defamation proceedings against the senator.

Witnesses said the senator protested the restriction and was seen making multiple urgent phone calls.

“Her passport was eventually stamped, and she was allowed to proceed,” one of the witnesses said.

When contacted shortly before departure, Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed the development but said, “The aircraft is about to take off.”

Akpabio must go – Nigerians react to Senator Natasha’s strong allegations against senate president

Your courage today is for you, the women of today and for the women of tomorrow. Watching your entire interview with Arise this morning, reaffirms my believe that Nigerians must only elect leaders ready for governance and not sexual exploitation(We all heard the recent voice note circulating the media space on a politician renting private jets to have fun with girls) and disregard for rule of law. This is not the first time Senator Akpabio has been alleged to commit sexual infractions against women. Sexual exploitation as it is today is on the rise and It happens in schools, offices and various places.”

@TheSerahIbrahim wrote: “Senator Natasha just accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and I am not surprised. Why would you frustrate a Senator because she refused to bed you I remember how he spoke and behaved beside Bianca Ojukwu. Always wanting other men’s wives. Shameless.”

@Maxajee wrote: “I think the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio should come out publicly and respond to Senator Natasha because these allegations are heavy. Picking up on a married woman is crazy and below any responsible man.”

@RBiakpara wrote: “Senator Natasha Akpoti has said what many have long suspected. For those who know Akpabio the Senate President, these accusations are not far-fetched but he has to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. What is worrying though, is the amount of hate-filled insults being thrown at Natasha, the supposed victim, who deserves the benefit of doubt until all has been investigated. You have to wonder people’s state of mind. Have they been so traumatised by politicians’ misrule as to make them so subhuman?”

@novieverest wrote: “In a sane country, what Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan just accused Godswill Akpabio of should be a very big issue. But watch her get the stick and scrutiny instead of Akpabio.”

@iamProjectP wrote: “In a sane clime, after this revelation by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senator Akpabio he should be resigning from his position as Senate President. But Nigeria is far from sanity so nothing like that will happen, instead the senator will pass a vote of confidence on him at their next sitting today. Nigeria is a joke.”

@bigmorsh wrote: “Facts: Senator Natasha violated rules of the Senate with her outburst at a recent plenary. Possibly out of frustration that had built up within her. But wrong will not be whitewashed as right. Highly speculative: Senate President made sexual advances toward Senator Natasha. Is she saying the truth? We don’t know. Is she lying? We also do not know. Since women have started deliberately making false rape accusations against men, it has become weaponized.”

@OfficialAzzaki wrote: “Senator Natasha’s revelation about Akpabio is disturbing but not surprising. Many face similar pressure in Nigerian politics, where power is abused, and voices are silenced. This must stop! I stand with Natasha and against political exploitation.”

@phreakytahj wrote: “Akpabio needs to step down while investigations are carried out. He cant be the Senate President anymore for now. Senator Natasha is spilling alot on @ARISEtv”

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has opened up on some of the things she has been enduring following a recent clash with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The senator lamented her ordeal while speaking on the Brekete Family program, a Human Rights Radio and Television show hosted by Ahmed Isah, popularly known as “Ordinary President.”

“I have been going through a lot,” she stated during the live interview on Friday.

Recall the senator during plenary session on Thursday, clashed with Senate President Akpabio over a controversial seating arrangement.

The altercation began when Natasha discovered that her designated seat had been reassigned upon resumption of the Senate session. Refusing to comply with the change, she openly challenged the decision, leading to a heated exchange in the chamber.

During the Brekete Family program, Natasha further alleged that some of her parliamentary privileges had been unfairly withheld.

She said, “My attention was drawn that you were actually speaking about the issue on your program today, so thank you so much for your concern.

“I have been going through a lot and I have remained quiet because I didn’t want to be interpreted wrongly. I didn’t want any lawsuit against me.

“I just wanted to be given the chance to work. A lot of my previleges have been denied. I have been pulled out of many international activities that I have been part of since that whole night club incident that happened last year.

“Infact, there was even a United Nations event that I was supposed to attend which I was nominated for but my name was struck out. That they would not promote me in any event internationally.
