BREAKING: Serving Senator escapes assassin’s bullets in Abuja

A serving Senator Sani Musa (All Progressives Congress, APC Niger East), on Saturday, escaped an assassination attempt.

It was gathered that the assassins numbering nine stormed Senator Musa’s home in Abuja around 11 pm.

A former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the APC, Femi Fani-Kayode, confirmed the attack via a Twitter post. Fani-Kayode said some of the attackers have been arrested.

The horrendous attempt to kill Sen. Sani Musa, a dear friend & brother of mine, a leading member of the APC and one of the Directors in the Tinubu/Shettima PCC in his home this evening by 9 well-armed, bloodthirsty and violent assassins is despicable. I wholeheartedly condemn it.

“Thankfully some of the perpetrators have been apprehended by the security agencies and those that were behind this dastardly attempt to kill the Senator and his family shall be exposed and brought to justice. May God protect us all from evil and bloodthirsty men,” Fani-Kayode wrote.

Step down in the interest of the party, PDP senatorial candidate tells Ayu

Mr. Ifedayo Adedipe, Ondo Central Senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has admonished the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, to relinquish his position in the interest of the party.

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and four other governors have been calling for Ayu’s resignation as the national chairman to pave the way for inclusiveness in the party’s administration.

Adedipe, who made the call while speaking with NAN on Sunday in Akure, said the crisis rocking the party was not a personal matter between Wike and the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The PDP senatorial candidate said that it had become imperative for the national chairman to make sacrifice by yielding to the call for inclusiveness and carrying them on board.

According to him, what the governors are asking for is that the presidential candidate and the party’s national chairman should not come from the same region.

Adedipe, who said he had sympathy for Wike for being the rock and pillar of the party between 2015 and now, regretted that the PDP “is still talking of unifying the party at this crucial time instead of talking of how to win the election”.

He said If the chairman wants to help his party, he should be ready to make sacrifices and look at what the party stands to lose if these governors are not on board.

He pointed out that “it is better to make the supreme sacrifice so that the crisis will not damage the party”.

“The crisis is not personal, the aggrieved governors are looking for inclusiveness, and don’t anybody deceive you that they cannot do nothing.

“It will be counter productive and unhealthy for them to leave because we can not afford another eight years of APC under any guise.

“Ironically, the PDP has more governors in the south than in the north. So, if I were the chairman, I will not wait till after winning the election before I resign in the interest of the party.

“If Ayu can willingly relinquish his position in the interest of the party, he will automatically become a hero just as Aminu Tambuwa was termed as hero during the night of the party’s convention.

“Ayu should become a hero by leaving now,” he said.

The senatorial candidate, therefore, called on the electorates to resolve and vote for PDP in the senatorial, presidential, and other elective positions in the forthcoming general election.

He promised to be accessible to his constituents and represent them well if elected into the upper chamber of the National Assembly in the 2023 general election.

The PDP senatorial candidate, who explained that he delved into politics to give back to the society, said “there is a limit to what an individual can do to help the society”.

He lamented that the society lacked quality leaders with political will to improve the standard of living of the poor masses.

“You will agree with me that no individuals, no matter how rich they are, can do what a well run government can do for the masses,” he said.

According to him, there is no amount of wealth individual persons can possess to be able to fix roads, build bridges, hospitals, and stadia, among others, for the benefit of the society without government interventions.

Adedipe said that it was high time society began to have people with ideas, people with altruistic reasons to be in government.

He said the national assembly, which was designed for lawmaking and others, needed well informed legislators on board.

“If I am elected into the national assembly, I will be a very good people’s senator, lobby on their behalf, work for them and I will always be available and accessible.

“And if I do not represent them well, they can report me to my family because I am from the illustrious Elemo Family in Akure. I have a duty to hold the banner of the family without any stain.

“And having reached the pinnacle of my carrier as a legal practitioner (SAN), I believe it’s high time I gave back to the society.

“My duty is not to only the people of Akure but also to people of Ondo East, Ondo West, Ifedore, Idanre, Akure South and Akure North Local Government areas.

Adedipe expressed confidence that the landmark achievements of the previous administration of the PDP, in both the state and county at large, would speak for it as a political party, given the reality on ground.

He said that the people were yearning for the return of PDP in the state.

According to him, every election is a referendum on the party in office and the ruling party is not a party to vote for in the state.

“I am sure the people will make a wise choice.

“Although, the APC may be in control of the state at the moment, during election we will know who the people prefer. But I can tell you that PDP is the people’s choice in Ondo State.

“On election day, the electorates will come out massively because their votes are what will liberate them from the shackle of oppression that the APC had put us into,” he said.

  • Why I want to be a Senator – Oshiomhole

Why I want to be a Senator – Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Edo North seat at the National Assembly, says his focus is to change the annual budget system of Nigeria in favour of the ordinary people.

Oshiomhole, also a former APC chairman, stated this on Friday at the inauguration of the party’s campaign in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

“I am troubled by the way we manage our budget at the National Assembly. I want to go there and argue on the floor of the Assembly that we should change our budgetary system. Our budget must work for the people.

“I want to be a Senator, not a Senator sharing grinding machines for widows, buying motor bikes or Keke Napeps for 10 out of 10,000 youths.

“I don’t need to be a senator to support windows and youths. I have done that and I am still doing that, today I am paying school fees for people who don’t have money to go to school,” he said.

Oshiomhole, also a former governor of the state, said that if he could fight on the street for ordinary Nigerian, he would even fight harder on the floor of the Senate to ensure that his constituents received democratic dividends.

“I can’t have N500 million for constituency project and go and buy Keke napeps motor bikes and grinding machines, that is not lawmaking.

“The minister of works told me that the reason road constructions are not completed is that the National Assembly will take half of the money budgeted for a road and approve four other roads on that approved fund, this is why we have unfinished roads all over Nigeria.

“I will use the floor of the Senate to ensure that when the executive brings budget, you don’t start new road when the existing ones are not completed,” he said.

Oshiomhole, also a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress urged Nigerians to vote for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because of his track record of performance as governor of Lagos state.

According to him, among those contesting for the seat of president, the APC candidate stands out as the best candidate due to his performance as governor of Lagos state.

“Tinubu is the most suitable person for president in 2023, They are throwing stones at him because they have seen that they can’t dispute his performance.

“They said he didn’t go to school but they say he was the treasurer of Mobil oil company. Will an oil company employ someone as chief accountant or treasurer if he didn’t go to school?

“You have seen how Tinubu transformed Lagos, when he sees a performing young person, he mentors and grooms him to become a leader.

“That is why he has produced governors, senators, ministers among others. So Tinubu is the one who will bring up young Nigerians and mentor them,” he said.

Earlier, the Director-General, the Oshiomhole campaign council, Mr Abdulganiyu Lawani said APC was in the rignt course of winning the 2023 general election.

“We have suitable candidates that can win elections. We have incumbent lawmakers that have performed well and those who are first timers are sellable candidates who can also win election for us.

“I urge all party members to go to their various units, wards and local governments to ensure victory for APC come 2023,” he said.

Senator Sani addresses bill on renaming Kaduna to Zazzau State

The Senator, representing Kaduna Central, Sen. Uba Sani, has described the media report on purported sponsorship of bill renaming Kaduna State to Zazzau State as a lie from the pit of hell.

Sani made the refusal in a statement in Abuja on Monday.

‘The senator expressed dismay at what he described as concocted, subversive, malicious and false information circulating on social media claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari had signed a bill for the creation of Zazzau State.

He said that the claim that he allegedly co-sponsored by him in the Senate with Senator Sulaiman Abdu Kwari, was false and had no iota of truth.

“My immediate reaction to this outrageous and patently false piece of information is to wonder how mischievous elements can allow their imaginations to run riot, all in a bid to undermine their political opponent.

“How can people go to the extent of planning to destabilise their own state and worsen the insecurity situation because.

“Senator Uba Sani has gained the full support of the people and is the man to beat in the 2023 governorship elections in Kaduna State,” he said.

Sani who is the APC governorship candidate for 2023 election in Kaduna said Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was on break, adding that no such bill was before the Senate.

He said requests for creation of states are normally tabled before the Committee for Constitutional Review.

According to him, the story is therefore the handiwork of agents of destabilisation and must be investigated by security agencies.

He said those behind this subversive act must be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said that he was fully focused on putting finishing touches to fashioning effective strategies to ensure success in the 2023 governorship elections.

“We have also been sharing our blueprint for Kaduna State with critical stakeholders in order to get their inputs.

” We are set for the commencement of campaigns in September 2022.no amount of evil machinations can distract us from our set goals.

“Their plans would continue to fail because our people are enlightened and understand the schemes of anti – development elements,”Sani said.

  • Two months after state pardon, Dariye, Nyame, others still in prison

Despite the state pardon granted to 159 convicts, including a former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, and a former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, two months ago, the duo are yet to be released from the Nigerian Correctional Service (prison).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that the duo and other convicts could not be released by correctional service until a correspondence from the Ministry of Justice stating so was received.

The Council of State led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had on April 14 approved the pardon of the convicts, a decision which generated outcries.

Nyame is serving a 12-year jail sentence for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as governor of Taraba, while Dariye is serving 10 years’ imprisonment for N1.126 billion fraud.

    Dariye

But while justifying the clemency, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president, Garba Shehu, had said it would have been insensitive for the President not to pardon the duo, saying that they had life-threatening illnesses.

When contacted about why the two former governors were still in their custody, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abubakar Umar, explained that the NCS was not responsible for the delay.

Umar said, “Why they have not been released is because we are still waiting for correspondence from the Ministry of Justice. The moment we get that, we will effect their release. It is a presidential pardon, no doubt, but there must be a document to back their release. They can’t be released on pronouncement alone.”

Meanwhile, there is palpable anger in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State over the non-release of Dariye from the correctional centre.

Some kinsmens of Dariye, who served as a governor between 1999 and 2007 and hails from Mushere community in the Bokkos LGA, condemned how the Federal Government was handling his matter, describing his continued detention as strange.

  • Aggrieved Ondo senator retrieves vehicles given to party leaders after losing

The representative of Ondo Central Senatorial District, Ayo Akinyelure, has allegedly started retrieving the vehicles he had given to some Peoples Democratic Party, PDP leaders in the state.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this development comes after the senator lost his bid to return to the Red Chamber of the parliament for the third time.

In the Ondo Central Senatorial District primaries on Monday, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions came second behind Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), who clinched the ticket with 82 votes.

Akinyelure got 58 votes, while ex-Ondo State PDP Chairman, Chief Clement Faboyede, came third with 57 votes.

An official of the party claimed that Akinyelure had retrieved the vehicles given to Chief Segun Adegoke, a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, and that of Wole Akindiose, a former PDP Chairman in Ondo East Senatorial District and national delegate to the forthcoming convention of the party.

However, Akinyelure’s Media and Strategy Adviser, Charles Akinwon, said the senator only retrieved the vehicle given to Akindiose because of the role he played during the primaries.

Akinyelure had blamed the immediate past Governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for the loss on Monday.

Ex-Senator drags estranged wife of Fani-Kayode to court

A former senator, Mrs Grace Bent has dragged Precious Chikwendu, estranged wife of former Aviation Minister, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode to the Federal High Court, Abuja over alleged defamation of character.

When the matter was called on Monday, however, Chikwendu was absent in court and there was no legal representation on her behalf.

Mr Joseph Offor who announced his appearance for the prosecution said that he was holding the brief of Mr Victor Okoye who was away in Lagos.

Offor told the court that he had little information about the case and so could not explain why Chikwendu and her legal team were absent in court.

The trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the matter until March 10 for arraignment.

Chikwendu, an ex-beauty queen had, through her social media handle, accused Bent of using the police to intimidate her with regards to the feud between her and her former husband.

Bent, however, in a statement, described the allegation as “very weighty” adding that she was consulting with her legal team and would not hesitate to seek appropriate legal redress.

Bent, who is a close friend and longtime political associate of Fani-Kayode, has debunked the allegations, describing it as a “very weighty” one that carries “assassination tendencies and intendment.”
