    FPSO Trinity Spirit fire: 3 crew members alive, 7 missing, one dead body found – SEPCOL

    Three crew members on board the Trinity Spirit Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel gutted by fire at the Ukpokiti Terminal last Wednesday have been confirmed alive.

    Though a yet-to-be identified body was discovered close to the offshore facility in the wee hours of Sunday, the seven others remain missing.

    The management of Shebah Exploration & Production Company Limited (SEPCOL) (in receivership) confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.

    According to the statement, the trio was found in a community (name undisclosed).

    The statement signed by Ikemefuna Okafor, Chief Executive Officer of SEPCOL said in parts: “We can confirm that three (3) crew members have been found alive in the community and our priority is to ensure that they receive the appropriate medical attention they need.

    “Furthermore, in the early hours of Sunday 6th February 2022, one dead body was discovered in the vicinity of the FPSO. The identity of the dead body is yet to be ascertained.

    “As earlier confirmed, the fire burnt out completely as of Thursday afternoon, 3rd Feb. 2022, thus enabling closer inspection of the vessel.

    “A Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) with the relevant authorities, stakeholders, and expert organisations took place on Saturday, 5th February 2022.

    “The focus of our joint efforts is to prioritise investigations towards establishing the whereabouts, safety, and security of the 7 crew members still missing, clean up and limit damage to the environment, and establish the cause of the explosion.

    “We appreciate the assistance provided by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team,
    NOSDRA, NUPRC, SPDC, NIMASA and people in the community, particularly the fishermen, who have been of immense assistance since the incident occurred”.

    The vessel, which eventually burnt out and sunk, had a capacity to produce 22,000 crude oil barrels daily and serves as the primary production facility for OML 108.

    The Federal Government and petroleum industry stakeholders have vowed investigation of the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility which exploded on Wednesday.

    The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

    NUPRC and stakeholders had ealier embarked on a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to the burnt out facility. NUPRC told newsmen that Trinity Spirit FPSO, located at Ukpokiti field (OML 108) in Delta State, exploded leading to a fire incident on the vessel.

    Providing an update, the commission said the fire had been successfully extinguished.

    “The commission will commence JIV with relevant stakeholders immediately in line with our regulatory oversight function for upstream operations.

    “We will deploy our incident management strategy. We’ll ensure the removal of the FPSO is carried out professionally to prevent an escalation of the incident.

    “The commission will ensure that all safety and environmental measures are strictly adhered to in the management of the incident.”

    Management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SEPCOL), which owns the FPSO, confirmed that the JIV with relevant stakeholders and experts had been scheduled for Feb. 5.

    Mr Ikemefuna Okafor, the Chief Executive Officer, SEPCOL (In receivership) signed the statement.

    Okafor said there was still no fatalities from the incident though some operatives remained unaccounted for.

    The company, he said will prioritise investigations to establish the whereabouts, safety, and security of the 10 crew members who were on board the vessel prior to the incident.

    Okafor lauded the assistance provided by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team, government agencies and the people of the community, particularly the fishermen since the incident occurred.

    The Management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SEPCOL) says the fire which engulfed its offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility has burnt out completely.

    Mr Ikemefuna Okafor, Chief Executive Officer, SEPCOL (In receivership), confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

    The Trinity Spirit FPSO located at at Ukpokiti field (OML 108) in Delta had exploded in the early hours of Wednesday.

    Okafor said the company had been working with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to contain the situation.

    According to him, an investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the explosion.

    He said: “We can confirm that the fire burnt out completely as of Thursday afternoon and this has enabled closer inspection of the vessel.

    “With this development, a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) has been scheduled for Feb. 5 with the relevant authorities, stakeholders and expert organisations.”

    Okafor said there was still no reported fatalities from the incident.

    He said the company would, however, continue prioritising investigations with respect to establishing the whereabouts, safety, and security of the ten crew members who were on board the vessel prior to the incident.

    Okafor lauded the assistance provided by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team, government agencies and the people of the community, particularly the fishermen since the incident occurred.

    He said, “members of the public should continue to keep away from the area while our Crisis Management Team monitors developments in the investigations and update all stakeholders with new information accordingly.”

    The Management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SEPCOL) has confirmed that there was a fire incident at its offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FSPO) facility on Wednesday.

    Mr Ikemefuna Okafor, Chief Executive Officer, SEPCOL (In receivership), made the confirmation in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

    Okafor said an explosion occured at the Trinity Spirit FSPO located at the Ukpokiti Terminal at the early hours of Wednesday.

    He said: “The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated and we are working with necessary parties to contain the situation.

    “At this time, there are no reported fatalities, but we can confirm that there were 10 crew men on board the vessel prior to the incident and we are prioritising investigations with respect to their safety and security.”

    “We appreciate the assistance provided us by the Clean Nigeria Associates, the Chevron team operating in the nearby Escravos facility and our community stakeholders.

    “We also appreciate the fishermen who have been of tremendous assistance since the incident happened.”

    Okafor said the company had duly notified all relevant authorities and appealed to the members of the public to stay away from the area.

    He added that SEPCOL’s Crisis Management Team would continue to monitor the situation and update all stakeholders with new information as the investigation evolves.
