Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain have announced Sergio Ramos is departing.

And it’s been confirmed their clash with Clermont today will act as Ramos’ last for the Parisians.

Ramos stated: “Wearing the Red and Blue shirt for the last two years has been a wonderful experience.

“I’ve had an unforgettable adventure in Paris and I’d like to thank you all for your support and love. Allez Paris! ”

In his time with PSG the Spaniard added two Ligue 1 titles and a Trophée des Champions to his extensive list of honours secured with Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.

Sergio Ramos retires from Spain duty

Spain’s most capped player Sergio Ramos, has announced his international retirement after being told by new coach Luis de la Fuente that he was not part of his plans.

The 36-year-old Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender, who won the FIFA World Cup in 2010 as well as two European Championships, has not played for Spain since March 2021.

But he said he should have been given the chance to show he could still be of service to his country.

“The time has come, the time to say ‘goodbye’ to our beloved and exciting national team,” Ramos, who captained Spain 52 times, said in a statement.

“This (Thursday) morning I received the call from the current coach who told me that he doesn’t and will not count on me, regardless of the level I can show or how I continue my sports career.”

The Spanish FA (RFEF) confirmed to Reuters that the conversation between coach De la Fuente and Ramos took place on Thursday, but provided no further details.

Ramos was dropped by former Spain coach Luis Enrique and had not made an appearance since coming on as a late substitute in a 3-1 win over Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier two years ago.

“Humbly, I think that my path deserved to end because of my personal decision or if my performance was not up to the level that our national team deserve, but not because of age or other reasons,” Ramos said.

“Being young or less young is not a virtue or a defect, it is only a temporary trait that is not necessarily related to performance or ability.

“I look with admiration and envy at (Luka) Modric, (Lionel) Messi, Pepe… the essence, tradition, values, meritocracy and justice in football.

“Unfortunately, it will not happen to me because football is not always fair and football is never only about football.”

The veteran is yet to play for PSG, but Matthaus is adamant Real Madrid miss his presence.

He told Vamos: “Real Madrid have lost their personality without Ramos.

“(David) Alaba is a great player, but he doesn’t have that personality. He is not a leader like Ramos.”

Sergio Ramos debut not certain yet – PSG

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have confirmed that centre-back Sergio Ramos will not be making his much-awaited debut when they tackle Angers.

PSG disclosed this in a statement via their website on Thursday.

According to the statement, Ramos will continue on his road to full recovery by training individually for the next 10 days.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will host Angers in a French Ligue 1 tie at Parc des Princes on Friday night.

PSG’s statement read, “Sergio Ramos will continue his individual sessions with the medical and performance staff for another 10 days with a view to returning to full training.”

PSG head to the game following a 2-0 defeat to Rennes in their last Ligue 1 tie on October 3.

They currently sit on top of the Ligue 1 table with 24 points from 9 games.

  • PSG signing Ramos made me sad – Thiago Silva

PSG signing Ramos made me sad – Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to sign Sergio Ramos has left him “truly sad,” after he was not offered a similar deal despite the duo being close in age.

Former Real Madrid captain Ramos is one of a number of high-profile signings at Parc des Princes this summer, as the Ligue 1 side look to cement their hopes of a successful European challenge.

Yet Silva, who is entering his second year at Chelsea following his PSG exit last term, has admitted that while has no issue with Ramos, the club’s call to sign the Spain star rankles given his own long service – and sharp release – from the French side.

“I have nothing against Sergio Ramos, but Sergio, at the time at which they offered him a two-year contract, was the same age as me last year,” the 36-year-old told ESPN Brazil.

“So that made me truly sad. I have not yet spoken about it with anyone, because it made me really sad because I felt like I had done nothing for the club.

“My departure is a page that has certainly been turned, but at the same time I think a lot, I reflect a lot on everything that has happened. I think that something else could have been done.

“Because it was not eight days, or eight months that I spent with PSG. It was eight years with lots of victories, lots of work to be able to change, and put PSG at the level that it is at today.

“I want PSG to win, because the club deserves all the respect. But, in light of the way that things played out, I have this feeling of sadness and I feel that it could have been done differently.”

  • Alaba explains taking Sergio Ramos number at Real Madrid

David Alaba is delighted with his move to Real Madrid.

The Bosman signing from Bayern Munich was presented to the local media on Wednesday morning at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alaba said, “For me it is a dream that comes true. It is the biggest club in the world and of course it fills me with pride to be here. So all I can say is that I hope to put on the jersey now and play here.”

It’s been confirmed Alaba will wear the No4 shirt vacated by former captain Sergio Ramos.

He continued: “Well, I spoke to the club about that. They offered me this number, because there was no other possible number. I know what this number means for the club. For me, wearing it is something that motivates me a lot. It is a number that shows strength and leadership. I’m going to give it my all.

“I have not come here to compare myself with other players, I am here to be David Alaba and continue being who I am. This is my goal, although I also want to contribute my abilities and my strengths.”

Ramos tells Mbappe: Reject Real Madrid and stay with PSG

Sergio Ramos has told Kylian Mbappe to reject Real Madrid and stay with him at PSG.

Mbappe is a dream target for Ramos’ former club, Real Madrid, but while he would recommend a spell at Los Blancos one day, he hopes Mbappe will be staying put for now.

“I wouldn’t dare say what someone should do, with my experience I could give him some advice in private,” said Ramos to the Spanish media via video press conference.

“I would like him to stay at PSG because I like to play with the best.

“When you make the decision to stay or go, it’s very personal.”

Perhaps if Ramos had renewed with Real Madrid he might be thinking something different, but now he is certainly hoping Mbappe stays in Paris a while longer, while he feels he may be able to help him develop further.

“I don’t know what Kylian has in mind, but he can make the difference,” continued Ramos.

“He’s very young, there’s a very good team here and it needs great players.

“I can bring my winning spirit and if I can pass that on to the team it will have been a success.”

Paris St-Germain have signed Sergio Ramos on a two-year deal following the defender’s departure from Real Madrid.

Ramos, 35, left Madrid after 16 years when his contract expired at the end of June.

Spain’s most-capped player won five La Liga titles and four Champions League medals with Real.

“I am very happy to join Paris St-Germain,” Ramos said. “This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it’s a day I will never forget.”

PSG chairman and chief executive Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Paris welcomes one of the greatest players of our era.”

Ramos is PSG’s third signing of the summer, after the arrival of Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who missed out on last season’s Ligue 1 title to Lille, have also been linked with a move for Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is a free agent after leaving AC Milan.

We tried everything to renew Ramos – Madrid president

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists Sergio Ramos will eventually return to the club.

Ramos’ protracted exit from Los Merengues was a long-standing source of frustration for supporters, especially those who felt he should have retired with the club he has captained so well, yet Perez believes every effort was made to re-sign the defender.

“I love Ramos like a son, I brought him here in 2005 and I’ve never before been to a press conference with a player,” Perez said.

“I have such admiration for him, he has been a legend and we wanted him to stay, we offered him a contract, he had a deadline but didn’t make it clear.

“This is his home and he will return for sure in another role.”
