Seun Kuti tackles Nigerians jubilating over Buhari’s death

Seun Kuti, one of the sons of legendary Nigerian musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has slammed Nigerians rejoicing over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023 and also served as Military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985, died in London on Sunday, at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness.

Reacting, Kuti via his verified Instagram page on Tuesday, stated that, even though the late Nigerian leader dealt with his family,  his death is not justice, and should not be a victory for Nigerians.

The singer who expressed deep pain over the harm allegedly caused by late president to his family, noted that, he did not celebrate his death.

He also highlighted the amount of taxpayers’ money used to fund Buhari’s overseas medical treatment until his death.

In his words: “That an old man has died in old age after using our blood to secure the financial future of his generations is not justice. Nobody watching this live video can say that their family suffered in the hands of Buhari the way my family did.”

“Now, some of you will come online celebrating like his death is a victory for us. Did you charge him in court for his crime? Why do you think an old man dying of old age is justice?” he asked.

“Over £3,000 was spent every month for his treatment in the UK while Nigerians are dying in public hospitals. You think that’s justice?.

“Buhari killed my friends, Buhari killed better men than me, men that should still be alive today. He killed my people. He killed the future of many Nigerians.”

Kemi Badenoch should be jailed, banned from entering Africa – Seun Kuti

Late Afrobeat singer, Fela Anikulapo’s son, Seun Kuti, has urged African leaders to ban British Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, from gaining access into the continent following her controversial remark about her home country.

Seun Kuti, controversial for his activism, made the appeal during an Instagram live where he said the UK’s opposition party leader should be jailed whenever she enters her continent of origin.

According to Kuti, Badenoch insults Africans and African ancestors with her colonialism statement.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reported that Vice President Kashim Shettima cautioned Kemi against denigrating Nigeria. Kemi, in response, explained that she did not owe the country image-making.

I find it interesting that everybody defines me as being Nigerian. I identify less with the country than with the specific ethnicity (Yoruba)

“I have nothing in common with the people from the north of the country, the Boko Haram where Islamism is.

“Somebody once told me when I was very young that my surname was a name for people who were warriors. They protected the crown, and that’s what I see myself as doing.

“I am here to protect and I will die protecting this country because I know what’s out there,” she said.

Reacting, Seun Kuti said, “Many have been praising this woman [Kemi Badenoch]; someone who has been insulting us, not only us but our ancestors. She said we should pay Europeans for colonialism.

“She’s saying we should pay them for killing millions of our ancestors; for all the atrocities that they committed in our lands.

“She’s someone who should be banned by African governments from stepping into Africa. Once she steps into Africa, she should be jailed.”

  • Seun Kuti throws VeryDarkMan ‘under the bus’ as Femi Falana threatens to ‘deal’ with critic

Seun Kuti throws VeryDarkMan ‘under the bus’ as Femi Falana threatens to ‘deal’ with critic

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has clarified that he has no input on what controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, (VDM) shares on social media while apologizing to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the social activist VeryDarkMan had on Tuesday shared a voice note in which the self-proclaimed trans woman, Bobrisky, alleged she spoke with Falz in prison and that Falz and his father, Femi Falana, SAN, tried to get him a presidential pardon in exchange for N10 million.

Reacting to the audio, VeryDarkMan expressed disappointment at the popular singer and his father for associating with male barbie and even asked if Falz’ dey do’, a comment many assumed was questioning Falz’s sexual orientation.

The acclaimed activist further used one of Falz’s hit songs, ‘This is Nigeria’, asserting that he’s a hypocrite.

Shortly after releasing the video, Seun, via his Instagram, disclosed that he gave the VDM the go-ahead to release the controversial audio tape.

However, In a video he shared on social media on Thursday, October 4, Seun made a U-turn, saying VDM did not play the content of the audio but only told him about it verbally.

He said he never intended for VDM to defame or insult Falana who was his late father, Fela’s lawyer, saying that VDM never listens to anyone and does whatever he feels is right.

He added that although, he enjoyed a good relationship with VDM, he does not in any way control VDM.

He said, ‘’I wasn’t conniving and I did not have any ulterior motive because I am the one that still came out to say he told me before he said it. If I was the one pushing him, I would never have come out to say he told me. I would have been in the shadow. The matter did not concern me and I told him to go and say what he wants to say.

I am sorry deeply if that offended Uncle Femi., It is really not my intention. I will not in any way, shape or form want to join anybody even VDM to fight Uncle Femi Falana. We have been through a lot. We have come a long way. Left to me, the one that matters to me is the institutional lapses of EFCC taking money to drop money laundering charge. I will never join issues with anybody to try and denigrate, insult or defame.”

Speaking further, he said, ‘’When people are talking and involving me in VDM’s post, am I VDM’s producer? Does he write what he wants to say to me for approval? This thing is surprising to me. In fact, I did not know that when he was going to do his video, he would ad the innuendos…that’s his style. He did not tell me he was going to do all that. Even if I tell him do not do it, he would have done it.”

Recall, the respected lawyer had, in a recent interview, threatened to initiate civil proceedings in the high court should VeryDarkMan fail to apologize for his claims.

  • Seun Kuti blasts Tinubu over fuel subsidy removal

Seun Kuti blasts Tinubu over fuel subsidy removal

Afrobeat singer, Seun Anikulapo-Kuti has berated President Bola Tinubu over his decision to remove fuel subsidy.

He said contrary to the President’s claim that the removal of fuel subsidy was a “tough” decision he made for the overall interest of the country, it was a “wicked decision” that undermined the welfare of Nigerians.

Kuti slammed the Presidency’s decision to buy a $150 million jet while the educational sector is underfunded. He argued that the money spent on acquiring a new jet for the President was enough to build and run 10 primary schools for 20 years.

Speaking during a recent Instagram Live session, the outraged singer asked, “Who donated for the $150 million jet for Tinubu? Who did they ask for donations?

“That $150 million do you know how many schools it will build? Or how long it will run a primary school? 10 good primary schools would be run on that money for at least 20 years. 10 good primary schools would be built and run, that will educate ten generations of African people,” Kuti added.

The President cannot tell us that this petrol matter is not in his control. He is the President and Minister of Petroleum. They say they take tough decisions but there is no tough decision taken here. President Tinubu took a wicked decision, this whole subsidy and floating the dollar, there is nothing tough about it.”
