“It’s part of it. It’s what keeps me gingered. But I don’t burn myself out; I don’t overdo. I have a lot of videos and I’m always recording. Throughout this whole pandemic, I moved the studio to my house. I don’t just release.
“I put a lot of thought into what I release. I don’t do it because someone is putting out theirs and I’ll feel left out.
“What the pandemic had me do is go back into any archive, listen to all the music I have, make new ones, and be consistent with dropping unlike before when I would drop music and wait some months before dropping again.”
TheNewsGuru recalls that days after Seyi Shay and Tiwa Savage were caught up in a battle of words and intense mudslinging, Seyi Shay shared a video of her dancing to Tiwa Savage’s ‘Koroba.’
The viral video was shared via the insta story of the “Irawo” crooner as she was seen in the company of friends at a beach in swimsuit with Tiwa’s “Koroba” playing loudly in the background.
There was a time that no one could have imagined Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay would fight. But today that is exactly what is happening.
The singers were not exactly close friends, but they aren’t enemies either. If you aren’t familiar, you’ll soon see why the feud between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay is the prototypical supremacy beef between two talented divas battling for their share of attention in the ever competitive Nigerian entertainment industry.

TIWA AND CECIL HAMMOND
How the seeds of beef was planted
After working with producer Harmony Samuels in Los Angeles, Tiwa Savage returned to Nigeria with her manager and ex-husband, Tunji ‘Teebilz’ Balogun ready to make a name for herself.
The ‘Koroba’ crooner was signed by Flytime CEO, Cecil Hammond. It was at this time that Savage and Davido briefly became roommates. While in Nigeria, Hammond pitched Savage to some producers including Don Jazzy, but the arrangement didn’t work out.
But by August 2010, Savage’s National Anthem became the toast of Nigeria. A little while later with financial push from Hammond, she went back to Los Angeles to work with Harmony Samuels and came back with ‘Kele Kele Love,’ which became an instant hit song. From there, she waxed stronger and later joined the Don Jazzy led Mavin Records.
After cutting ties with Tiwa Savage, Hammond signed on Seyi Shay to replicate Savage’s success. Amazingly,Shay also shares ties with Harmony Samuels, who produced her first single, ‘No Lele.’ Under the guidance of Hammond, Shay rose and became a household name. Then the comparison began.
2016: Seyi Shay denies knowing Tiwa Savage
During the clash between the stars on the 8th of June 2021, Tiwa Savage made references to interviews Seyi Shay granted where the songstress dissed her.
In 2016, Shay granted an interview where she stated that she does not know Tiwa Savage, at least not personally.
“I don’t really know her”, she told media personality, Ebuka Uchendu.
Asked if they have met before, she said “of course… like i said, I don’t really know her personally, i don’t have many friends in the music industry. They’re my colleagues and we say hello we say goodbye, we invite each other to different things and functions, that’s how it is with the females in the industry.”
2019: Fvckyouchallenge, straw that broke camel’s back
In April 2019, Seyi Shay fired shots at Tiwa Savage in her version of Kizz Daniel’s viral #FvckYouChallenge.
She crooned: ’You say you be my sister, but you wan collect my lover
You be deceiver, olofofo heart robber
Na why I no dey fuck you anymore
I no get time for you anymore
You know I’m not Savage, I dey pay my bills
You no go see my name for the Xscape
But [Prostitute] come be your hobby
Na so you come take first rate their hobby…
Shay also appeared to take shots at Savage for allegedly trying to block other women in the industry.
She ended her verse with;
You see say, fuck you
Teni, fuck you
Simi, not you
[Inaudible], fuck you
Sade, fuck you
Funke, fuck you
Asa, fuck you
Acetune, fuck you “.
What celebrities are saying
As Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay came close to attacking one another physically, a few of their colleagues have taken to social media to share their opinions on the incident.
Nollywood actress, Wunmi Toriola wrote: “Please don’t curse with children.I know some people will accuse you and you will feel pained”.
Daddy Freeze said:” This was a private conversation that had no business surfacing here.Who recorded this and put it on social media?”
Do2dtun, popular on air personality said: “The issue with this friendship thing is everyone just believes we have to be friends to cohabit. We all dont have to be friends to cohabit. Let us just respect each other.. it that is out of the window then we have nothing to talk about.. period!”
Popular singer, Seyi Shay has reacted to a trending video of her in a fight with her colleague, Tiwa Savage.
In the video, which surfaced online, the duo was seen being pulled apart from attacking one another at a salon as they threw squabbles at each other.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Seyi Shay had walked up to Tiwa Savage at the salon to say hi, but Tiwa was not having it.
Tiwa Savage noted that Seyi Shay had no right to walk up to her to say hi, considering what she and Victoria Kimani had done to her in the past.
Recounting her own side of the story, the ‘Yolo’ crooner in a viral voice note alleged that Tiwa Savage told her God will not give her(Seyi Shay) a child.
“Tiwa wanted to attack me, they had to carry her away.I stayed as calm as possible. The part that I didn’t see on Tunde Ednut’s page was when she said I wont have a child, she said God won’t give me a child because I have a bad spirit. She said in it Yoruba. It hurt me because I have had a miscarriage before”, she revealed.
On how the brouhaha began, Shay said:”Something was telling me today was going to have some curve balls in it.From the gym I went to the salon.I first went to the nail salon and then to the salon, Tayo’s Cut to arrange my hair for Idols on Sunday. As I got to the salon I saw Tiwa.People were already looking at me and looking at her. So I went up to her, she was already sitting under the dryer .I said ‘Hey Tiwa, how are you’?
She said:’Hey hi how are you’, I said :’I am good’
Then our eyes locked a little bit and I moved back to sit down.
I was talking to the salon owner when Tiwa walked to me saying: ‘In your dirty stinking life never greet me outside anywhere you see me again.’
“After the ‘Fvckyouchallenge’, I have seen Tiwa. We have been in the same private jet, we have taken pictures together. In my mind, I was saying why is she acting crazy?
I was confused when Tiwa swore on her son’s life. How would a mother swear on her son’s life”?
Nigerian singers, Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay have reignited their age long rift.
The rivalry between the talented singers started years back when Seyi Shay was revealed as an ambassador for Pepsi. This bit of news was astonishing because Tiwa Savage was still a Pepsi ambassador. There were rumours that Tiwa Savage had been dropped for Seyi Shay. Of course that rumour didn’t turn out to be true. Yet people wondered why a brand will sign two female singers within the same genre?
In the same vein, the beef was further kindled in 2019 when Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani slammed Tiwa Savage in their respect versions of KIzz Daniel’s Fvckyouchallenge.
However in a trending video, the duo who met today at a salon on the Island were involved in a heated arguement. Seyi Shay reached out to Tiwa Savage trying to say hi.Tiwa however declined making reference to how Seyi Shay and Kimani dissed her in a song years back.
Tiwa said in the video:” Don’t come to me and say hi with a dirty and disgusting spirit that you have. You think I have forgotten how many years ago what you guys did? You and victor kimani. You think I have forgotten? You think I can forget? God should take my son if I have ever done or said anything about you and Victoria Kimani. Bitch I am made, I have money, I have nothing to take from you”
In reply, Seyi Shay:”You want me to open the things you have done, I am not like you, I won’t do that.If you want to act like an ‘Agbaya ‘ right now, carry on. The only reason why I greeted you is to try and squash our beef. Don’t let me open your ‘yansh’ here”.
Tiwa fired back saying:”You don’t try and squash any beef by saying hi. You try and squash it by calling me in a corner and settling it. Your ‘yansh’ is the dirtiest in this industry, you slut. You look half- dead , look at your skin. You need to mind your business that Is what will clear up your ugly skin”.
As at the time of filing this report, none of them are yet to react to the trending video.
Popular singer, Seyi Shay who is a judge on the Nigerian Idol reality television show has reacted to critics who believe that her judging method is quite harsh.
In an episode of Rubbin Minds with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the graceful songstress noted that she is paid to be a judge on the show and not a psychiatrist. Seyi Shay added that she is only being honest and blunt with the contestants but Nigerians do not seem ready to hear the truth.
She said, “I did not think that Nigerians were not ready for the truth. I am quite blunt and I keep it real all the time; I don’t beat around the bush. The first show was such a shocker. At the end of the day, it is TV and it will always be made to look more elaborate than it was.
“Most of the contestants that came to audition for Nigerian Idols were really good and a few of them were really bad. I am here to judge. Now, we have gone into the live episodes; so, it is now in Nigerian’s hands to decide who to be on the show or not.”
According to her, earlier in the recording of the show, the responsibility was on the three judges to either kick people out or allow them to stay.
She continued, “My reactions are real and very honest, but I did not know Nigerians were not ready to hear the truth. I am there to do a job; I was paid to do a job. I am a judge and not a counsellor or psychiatrist. I am there to tell the truth. I am always keeping it real. I feel like too many people are hooked on smoke screens and mirrors and social media plays a big part.”
Socialite and entrepreneur, Pretty Mike has slammed Seyi Shay, for harsh comments to a young singer at this year’s audition of the television reality show, Nigerian Idol.
Seyi Shay who is a judge on the show recently told a 19-year-old girl that she cannot sing and shouldn’t think of plying that route for her future career.
Recalling how his high school teacher built a choir from students who are not good at singing, Pretty Mike stated that his teacher told him that everyone can sing.
According to him: ”Having seen a video of a 19 years old girl auditioning at Nigerian Idols and Seyi Shay specifically saying she can’t sing and shouldn’t consider plying that route is the sickest thing I’ve seen recently, Kindness is so easy to give, I really don’t know why people choose otherwise. She’s just a lady with a dream!
“Killing people’s confidence can only stem from a place of deepseethed insecurity and hate. It sickened me watching that girl grovel for an opportunity that wasn’t even worth her dignity. “I pray she learns and works on her voice. I pray she understands that a thousand Seyi Shays don’t have the final say over her aspirations and life.
“For the judges of these shows and auditions, the gap between constructive criticism and undiluted harshness is as wide as the Pacific Ocean, they can never be the same. For contestants of Nigerian idols, Big brother Naija and every other reality or talent hunt show out there, I want you to know that your dreams are valid and achievable”.
Seyi Shay’s statement also elicited various comments from fans on social media.
Read the comments gathered by TheNewsGuru below:
@Datblackwoman: I know Nigerian Female artists with better vocals than Seyi. Niyola, Tomi owo and many more. Seyi and her auto tune music needs to go sit in a corner for a time out. She’s doing too much. There’s a difference between constructive criticism and blatant disrespect.
@Ossyachievas: I felt so bad for that lady….Seyi Na better fool….
@WomeninPortharcourt: This particular matter is pretty dicey if you ask me. When you are the spotlight most times, you just have to expect the unexpected. When I was given a No when i auditioned at Project Fame during Chidinmas time. Like it was sure for me that I was gonna get to the final stage after crossing all the other stages with tension but that final No shock me too.
The 17-year-old Nigerian Idol contestant criticized by Seyi Shay has said he was broken emotionally and psychologically.
Seyi Shay is one of the judges for the show’s 6th season alongside DJ Sose and Obi Asika.
On Sunday, she had condemned the performance of the budding artiste, describing it as awful. Seyi Shay had also told the teenager that he shouldn’t have auditioned for the show, adding that he “can’t make money being a singer.”
Imagine Seyi Shay telling a 17 year old with good voice, who has passion for singing that “YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO MAKE MONEY BEING A SINGER”. Cos you’re God abi?pic.twitter.com/QZsBVNWutG
As videos from the show spread on social media, a number of users had slammed Seyi Shay over the way she passed her verdict on the teenager.
Amid the backlash, a Twitter user with the handle Ayo Torrus identified himself as the contestant who was condemned.
Quoting the video of Seyi Shay’s verdict, he said: “This broke me emotionally and psychologically. But God got me.”
In Seyi Shay’s judgement, the 35-year-old songstress had said: “I am laughing because I can’t just believe what I just heard. Who told you to come for the show’s audition.
“You should go back and tell them they’re not your friends. That was not a good one. You have a sweet, token voice but your performance is terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer. “I love you, you’re so sweet but you’re not a singer. For songwriting, hit me up, we’ll talk about it but that singing thing won’t work out. Sorry, darling.”
