I and Vector share a strong chemistry-Seyi Shay

Ever since Seyi Shay and Vector starred in the anticipated movie, Lara and the Beat, there have been speculations that the two musicians could be in a relationship.

However, the singer debunked the claims in a recent chat with Punch, adding that she has known Vector before they became known musicians.

“I have a long and exciting history with Vector before the music and movie. He was one of the reasons I stayed in Nigeria to do music.

When I first came to Nigeria, he was the first friend I made in the music industry. He really helped me understand the Nigerian music and told me things I didn’t know at a time. I featured him on the remix of Irawo. I am happy it was him I played a movie role with. It was very easy working with him because I know him well. I don’t know anything about being in a relationship with Vector, but I definitely think Lara and the Beat is a movie worth watching because we both share a strong chemistry.”

  • ‘Electric Package’:How Seyi Shay turned blunders into blessings

The Nigerian music industry felt a significant impact when Seyi Shay shot to stardom after releasing her song, ‘Irawo’.Her rise was slow, steady and momentous .The svelte sexy singer later clinched City People’s Best New Musician of the Year (Female) award in 2013.

But Seyi Shay over the course of her career has experienced several mishaps capable of ruining her brand, but the melodious vocal power house has leveraged on these blunders, using them as a road-map to success.

In no particular order, TheNewsGuru takes a look at 3 lessons we can learn from Seyi Shay’s blunders.

    1. Don’t dwell on your mistakes

    SEYI SHAY

In 2017, Seyi Shay fell down while performing her Afrobeat song ‘ Yolo Yolo’ on AFRIMA stage. We won’t also forget how Seyi Shay’s gave’ One Dance’ writing credit to Wizkid rather than to Drake. This blunder was made on a Jamaican show on TV.

The ‘Murda’ singer who performed for the London Community Gospel Choir during their world tour, hasn’t allowed the mistakes to stop her from rising to the top.

“Many people are under the assumption that Superstars are Superhuman’s and that we are without mistakes. But just like every other person, we make mistakes and because we are public figures, our mistakes appear more magnified,” she said.

    1. Leverage on your mistakes

Twenty four months ago, ‘Yolo’ singer, Seyi Shay was under fire for not knowing the meaning of EP.

During an interview on HIP TV, Seyi Shay was asked to tell what the popular musical lingo; EP (Extended Play) stands for and Seyi gave a rather appalling response. She said it means ‘Electric Package’. This however became one of the biggest goofs of 2016.

Instead of wallowing in her gaffe, Seyi created an EP from the blunder and called it ‘Electric Package’.

Unknown to many, some inventions came about through mistakes.

Percy Spencer was experimenting with a new vacuum tube called a magnetron while doing research for the Raytheon Corporation in 1945. He tried another experiment with popcorn when the candy bar in his pocket began to melt. When the popcorn began to pop, Spencer immediately saw the potential in this revolutionary process. In 1947, Raytheon built the Radarange, the first microwave oven, which weighed 750 pounds, was 51/2 feet tall, and cost about $5,000.

    3.Keep evolving

Entertainers must keep evolving in order to stay relevant, competitive and innovative. Like Beyonce who stunned her fans with her amazing performance at Coachella 2018, Seyi Shay’s relevance is connected to her commitment to keep evolving.

According to Steve Mataboli:” Look around you. Everything changes. Everything on this earth is in a continuous state of evolving, refining, improving, adapting, enhancing, and changing. You were not put on this earth to remain stagnant.”

Seyi Shay is not just satisfied with being a singer. She recently explored her acting talent in the movie ‘Lara and the beat’ alongside rapper, Vector.

  • Some people used my mistake as their entertainment- Seyi Shay

Nigerian songstress, Seyi Shay is not one diva who complains about her flaws, blunders and mistakes. The talented entertainer prefers to wear them like a badge.

In a new gripping mini-documentary, the singer addressed her disreputable 2016 television blunder when she mistakenly stated that the acronym “EP” (which originally means Extended Play) stood for “Electric Package”.

In addition she also spoke about falling on stage during her AFRIMA 2017 performance.

“Me falling on stage was very crazy. I was just feeling my performance and trying to give my best. When things like that happen you can take it as a blessing or as a curse if you like. It hurt when people had bad things to say. Falling on stage, making TV blunders, you see these things on social media every day. It becomes painful if you are the one at the receiving end of the insults. Some people used my fall as their entertainment, it was very painful”.

Reacting to her infamous blunder on TV, she said:”I wasn’t thinking about the question and also was not thinking about the answer. I was just being playful”.

When asked about speculations making the rounds about her being a drug addict, she said: ”It is a price that we as celebrities have to pay. Most people believe all musicians do drugs. It is not a good thing to be subjected to such harsh accusations or speculation. The only way to kill rumours like that is to be successful and work hard so as to be a good example. I have never desired to appear perfect; my celebrity status doesn’t change me. I am human. I have learnt that the seed of growth is found in the pond of mistakes”. I wear my mistakes like a badge because they contributed largely to the process that turned me into an actual Electric Package”.

‘Electric Package is the title of Seyi Shay’s 6-track EP inspired by her infamous TV blunder.
