Tinubu trying to appease Christians, but Kaduna Emperor against it – Shehu Sani

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is trying to appease Christians in Nigeria.

He claimed that a retired Kaduna emperor wants Tinubu to run the country with malice and vindictiveness against a certain section and against a certain faith.

Tweeting, Sani cautioned Tinubu against allowing the emperor to trigger a crisis in Nigeria.

According to Sani: “The Government of Tinubu is trying to calm and appease the Christian population in the country while the retired Kaduna Emperor is still stocking the embers of religious bitterness, hate and strife with his inflammatory utterances.

“He wants the country to be run with malice and vindictiveness against a certain section and against a certain faith as he once did during his divisive and tragic tenure in Kaduna.

“It’s left for the President to allow him to trigger a crisis, tear or incinerate the country. Nigeria is still a fragile country, we must be careful.”

Buhari is allergic to being probed – Shehu Sani

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has slammed former President Muhammadu Buhari after he reportedly pleaded not to be probed by the current administration.

Sani said Buhari was allergic to being probed and blamed after he did the same to his predecessor.

There are claims that Tinubu had assured Buhari that he won’t probe him and his close aides.

Tweeting, Sani wrote: “They arrogantly oppressed, dispossessed, and killed the poor and the innocent and without remorse seek divine blessings for their injustice and inequity.

“Buhari probed and blamed all the ills and vices of this country on the previous administrations but he is allergic to being probed and blamed.”

10th Senate: G5 plotting with APC to impose minority leader — Shehu Sani

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna central, Senator Shehu Sani has revealed that the G5, led by former Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, in collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), are plotting to foist a stooge as the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.

Sani, in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, said what the members of APC are trying to do is to see how they can foist a Minority Leader that will be in sync with their programmes and policies and also the agenda of the National Assembly and by so doing, prevent the opposition from playing its role. They want a stooge, or someone who is not going to be hostile to them.

“But what is actually going on in the National Assembly today and the politics of the minority leadership is that the major opposition, which is the PDP, has factions, the G5 faction and the mainstream party.

“What the G5 is trying to do is to help have a minority leader that will play the card of the ruling party. If you have a minority leader who is an agent of the ruling party, you will have a stooge.

“He is going to synchronize and be another rubber stamp minority leader. In earnest, the minority leader is supposed to be someone who stands for opposition that will form an alternative representative in the parliament and the one that will represent and perform the agenda of his party.

They are trying to prevent the opposition from playing its role and doing that in a due process means having a minority leader that will synchronize with the ruling party.”

On what the PDP can do to stop that, Sani said: “PDP hasn’t taken a serious action against its members that betrayed or subverted its own course in the 2023 elections. They opted for the part of reconciliation but what is very clear is that the faction that broke away from the PDP to form the G5 is determined to work 100 percent in line with the ruling party.

“There is no way that you can call yourself an opposition if the people you are appointing in the position of leadership are simply the agents or stooges of the ruling party.

“The former Rivers governor, who is a member of the G5, all he is trying to do, I believe, is to have a minority leader that he anoints, which will give him the relevance in terms of his engagements with the ruling party.

“I believe that the ruling party has enough membership to be able to get most of its programmes, motions and bills too. But it is natural that it will need an opposition that will work together with it but not to the point that you have an opposition that will be a rubber stamp.”

  • President Tinubu told to reopen land borders

President Tinubu told to reopen land borders

Senator Shehu Sani has called on President Bola Tinubu to reopen all land borders across Nigeria.

Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, said this in an interview in Abuja on Sunday.

He said reopening of the borders was necessary to allow for free trade in line with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) protocol.

He said the closure of borders over the years “killed the Nigerian economy”.

The former lawmaker said the development plunged a lot of Nigerians into abject poverty, particularly those at the border communities.

Sani said the policy while impoverishing an average Nigerian, enriched the rich.

“The closing of land borders has not led to enough production of food for more than 200 million Nigerians as envisaged.

“It is disturbing to note that the past government closed down land borders and gave preference to the rich by opening sea borders for rice importation,”he said.

Sani also said “the policy also did not stop terrorism.

“We have had more problems of terrorism, which shows that it was simply futile.”

The former lawmaker said besides the economic challenges being encountered, the shutting down of borders against other African countries was disturbing.

“As Africans, we should not shut our borders to our neighbours.

“Let us be mindful that over half a million Nigerians are there as refugees in Benin Republic, Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic.

“So, how do we close our borders to them when they did not close theirs to us.

“As Africans, we should be our brothers’ keepers,”he said.

According to him, rather than closing borders, they  should be open to free trade while relevant agencies of government manned the borders properly.

“To check smuggling, we have the Nigeria Customs Service , Immigration Service and security agencies.

“You cannot have these agencies and at the same time close down our borders.

“If we are paying them, they should be able to deliver because we cannot close down our borders forever,” he said.

In a similar vein, Prof. Job Nmadu, an Agricultural Economist, Federal University of Technology Minna, said reopening of land borders would ease movement of legitimate goods and services.

He said it would also generate additional revenue for goverment while providing employment for border communities.

“The reopening of land borders will reduce illegal activities across the borders.

“It is also in the interest of Nigeria as part of ECOWAS protocol on movement of goods and persons within free borders of member states to reopen our borders.

“This move will equally bring down the prices of goods and services which has skyrocketed in the wake of the border closure.

The don, who is also President, Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists, said the reason behind the closure was not critically thought out by the past administration.

According to him, the closure brought hardship to border communities which livelihood and sustenance depend on trading across borders on daily basis.

Nmadu said the closure “created artificial scarcity on Nigerian side and surplus on our neighbours side, thereby increasing illegal activities.”

He called on the Federal Government to accompany the reopening of the borders with some policies that would make it successful.

He further said there was a need for downward review of levies, charges and commissions.

According to him, it will reduce the tendency to engage in illegal activities across borders.

Also, Mr Amodu Achema, the General Manager, Arewa Cottons and Allied Products Limited, said it was necessary to open the borders.

Achema, who is also Chairman of a social group, Iko Udama, said rather than border closure, more factories should be made competetive.

“I do not see the wisdom in closing borders.

“In spite of the border closure, we do not have the self sufficiency in food production as canvassed.

“Also, the things borders were closed against were still finding their way into the country.”

The National Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, said some borders were still closed.

“There is no new development with regard to the opening of borders across the country.

“Not all borders are opened as at today.

“There was an initial opening of some borders by the past administration and later four additional borders were opened.

“That is Idiroko, Kamba, Jibiya and Ikom,” he said.

He said all land borders in the North East had yet to be reopened owing to insecurity.

On reports in some quarters that Seme border had been reopened to importation of vehicles, Maiwada said he was not aware of such development.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had in August 2019, shut all land borders to encourage local production of rice and to check smuggling.

The trial judge, Justice HAL Balogun while delivering his judgment on Thursday dismissed the El-Rufai’s suit filed on the ground that it was an abuse of court process.

The judgment which was predicated on the fact that the plaintiff filed several suit over same cause of action before several court in Kaduna State.

The defence counsel, Barr. Kimi Livingstone Appah had initially filed a notice of preliminary objection to challenge the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit on the ground that the same case was filed in four different courts in the state.

Addressing journalists after the ruling, described the ruling as a victory for democracy and freedom of expression.

It would be recalled that El-Rufai had in 2018 filed a N2 billion suit against Shehu Sani. He sought reliefs for alleged injuries suffered as a result of “statements” made by Sani.

Tinubu dodged a poisonous knife – Shehu Sani mocks El-Rufai over chief of staff, SGF slots

A former senator who represented Kaduna Central at the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani, has  mocked the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai for missing out in the recent appointments made by President Bola Tinubu.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Tinubu appointed a former Governor of Benue State, George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation while the outgoing Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila was appointed as Chief of Staff.

Before Akume and Gbajabiamila were appointed, there were rumours in various quarters that the former Kaduna State governor would get one of the positions considering his closeness to the President during electioneering.

Reacting to the development, Sani, who was apparently referring to comments credited to El-Rufai on Islamisation agenda, said Tinubu had “dodged a poisonous knife” by scheming the former governor out of the two positions he described as “critical”.

“If Tinubu had appointed ‘Mr Over Sabi’ as SGF or Chief of Staff, he would have sown the seed of discord between the President and the Vice President, speak and move around as more important than the two. Tinubu has dodged a poisonous knife,” Sani said in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon.

El-Rufai was alleged in a trending video on social media to have said that the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the Kaduna governorship election would be sustained beyond 20 years in the state.

Wike had visited Tinubu twice in One week at the presidential villa.

Speaking with BBC Pidgin, Wike said he would consult his wife and friends if Tinubu offers him an appointment.

The former governor also vowed to assess himself to see if he is prepared for any national assignment, should Tinubu offers him an appointment.

Reacting, Sani tweeted: “Wike is talking about appointments more than even members of the ruling party.”

Why ‘Minister of State’ position was created – Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna West at the Red Chamber has stated reasons why the position of ‘Minister of State’ was created,

According to Sani,  the position of ‘Minister of State’ was created to settle people with ministerial appointments.

The Kaduna born politician made this known via a  post on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, with  Sani saying that  the country has only twenty ministries.

However, the social critic advocated cutting the cost of governance by reducing the number of ministers.

He wrote, “When the country has only 20 ministries and the President has to settle 43 people with Ministerial appointments, the ‘Minister of State’ was invented. Cutting the cost of Governance should begin with cutting the number of ministers.”

Sani lauds Tinudu over fuel subsidy removal

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna West, Senator Shehu Sani, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the removal of  fuel subsidy, starting from June 1st, 2023.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the newly sworn-in president had, during his inaugural speech, said the subsidy is no longer sustainable in the country, stressing that it is gone.

Reacting,  to the statement by Tinubu, Sani, via a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, praised President Tinubu, stating that it is the right time to take tough decisions that are capable of revamping the nation’s economy.

His tweet reads: “Within seven months last year, the CBN ‘defended’ the naira with $11.24 billion. Currently, petrol subsidy consumes N400 billion monthly.

“There is no better time to take tough economic decisions to revamp our economy than now. The culture of allocating foreign exchange to elites with multiple bureaus de change to sell on the black market must end.

“The opacity of the subsidy regime’s chains of fraud must also end.”

Shehu Sani adopts abandoned 2-week-old baby

Sen. Shehu Sani has adopted a two-week-old baby, reportedly abandoned on the street in some part of Nasarawa State.

The baby was reported to have been picked by a Police patrol team, who proceeded to a social welfare centre.

Sani, who on Tuesday, paid a visit to the Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation where the baby is kept, pledged to provide the necessary support.

He commends the orphanage for agreeing to take up the responsibility of the child.

Sani, who christened the child “Jordan Shehu”, promised to do everything to support the child’s upbringing.

The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the Eight Assembly, said the increased rate of abandoned Children was worrisome.

Sani said reports had shown that many children, who were born under such circumstance were from unwanted pregnancies, particularly from single girls.

According to him, the mothers of such abandoned children do so to avoid stigmatisation.

He said, while no immoral act should be condoned, girls who got pregnant outside wedlock should be supported and counselled.

The lawmaker said different factors were responsible for mothers abandoning their children.

“One of the factors is the stigma attached to such birth and I think it is high time our society began to address and discuss this issue.

“By addressing this issue the idea of shaming people who give birth to this type of children will be checked.

“It is also important that our society starts to pay attention to orphanages, where these type of children are kept.

“Children without parents belong to the society and we must play our part in their upbringing,” he said.

The lawmaker called on leaders to use their position to change the narrative.

He said, “our traditional and religious leaders should wade into this issue, first to prevent the type of pregnancy that leads to this kind of birth.

“However, when it happens, we should accept them as one of us.

“There is nobody that is born without a father or a mother.

“So when we begin to discuss this issue, it will make it easier for children born under such circumstances to live with their parents,” he said.

The lawmaker thanked the orphanage for accepting to cater to the child.

Mrs. Grace Chinedu, Founder, Restored Destiny Child Orphanage Foundation said she was elated by the visit.

She said she would continue to work to put smiles on the faces of children who were not privileged to be under their parents’ tutelage.

Chinedu said the orphanage, which houses over 26 children was founded seven years ago.

She thanked the former lawmaker and other Nigerians, who had assisted the orphanage over time.

The founder said “no help rendered to an abandoned child or an orphan will go unrewarded “
