Shekau lied, none of our officers are under his captivity – Borno State command

The Nigeria Police Force has rubbished claims by the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau that some policewomen were under the sect’s captivity.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Shekau had on Tuesday released a 10 minutes video where he claimed that several female officers were abducted during sect’s attack on a joint police/military convoy near Maiduguri on June 20.

Reacting, however, the Borno State Police Command described the footage as false, saying none of those paraded in the video are officers of the force.

The command in a statement by its PRO, DSP Isuku Victor, insisted that no police woman was in custody of the insurgents.

He said “for avoidance of doubts, and to put records straight, there are no Police women under Boko Haram terrorist’s captivity as claimed by the sect leader.

The Command wishes to reiterate as contained in an earlier Press Briefing by the Commissioner of Police, CP Damian A. Chukwu, on 20/06/2017 that: Police lorry with Reg. No. NPF 2677 D was carted away. Occupants comprise personnel, relations and burial party for late Sgt Rahila Antikirya.

Driver of the Police lorry, Sgt Kubura Mwada, was shot and injured on his back. He was able to jump down from the lorry and escaped.

Personnel missing are Inspr Fatsuma Sale and Cpl Abubakar Haruna. There is no evidence in the video clip indicating that they are in the captivity of the sect.

Other occupants of the lorry are either relations or sympathizers of the deceased, and were all reported missing in the earlier press briefing. They took advantage of the space in the lorry conveying personal effects of the deceased Police woman and joined the burial party.

The Command, therefore, wishes to advise media organisations and the general public to disregard the claim(s) in the video, as well as social media reports as they are not a true representation of that unfortunate incident.”

“I want to tell you that we are the one that attacked the convoy, here are the vehicles for all to witness, we are the ones that abducted the policewomen.

In fact, the policewomen are senior officers,” Shekau boasted. “What we did is nothing when compared to our women, children, and friends that have been wiped out or arrested for many years by the Nigerian government. We only abducted them to serve as slaves to us,”‎ he added. He also declares that the women his group abducted are fewer than 10 in number, and referred to them as “slaves”.

Boko Haram leader, Shekau dismisses reports of being injured in air strike [new video]

  • Why Boko Haram leader, Shekau has not been captured – Nigerian Army

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has explained why Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has not been captured despite the recent onslaught on the Sambisa forest.

According to a report by Daily Trust, Buratai said Shekau and other top Boko Haram commanders fled the forest as they could not withstand the superior firepower of the Nigerian Army.

When asked about Shekau’s whereabouts, Buratai said: “Your guess is as good as mine because as we are planning, he too was planning. He could not withstand the advancing troops into that location so he moved and we are still going after him.

As for the items that were recovered in Camp Zero which we strongly believe belong to the terrorists, these were evidence to show that our troops have been there. These criminals that have been staying in that place are no more in that location.”

Buratai also stated that they hoped to apprehend some key leaders of the insurgent group, but they also escaped.

It was the expectation when Camp Zero was captured. We even expected to see the Boko Haram terrorists’ key leaders.

They were able to slip out of that place and move to another location. The forest is very large but we are still searching for them.

The troops are continuously carrying out clearance operations in other suspected locations.

But the most important thing is that Camp Zero was the stronghold of the Boko Haram terrorists; it was their main headquarters where we suspected the key leaders were hiding”, he added.

  • Shekau not killed, Army presented fake Boko Haram flag to Buhari – PDP Youths

The youth wing of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth Frontier, has alleged that the Nigerian Army presented a “fake Boko Haram flag” to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the Army recently presented a flag and Quran belonging to Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect to President Buhari at the Presidential villa in Abuja signaling the capture of the forest and death of the dreaded leader of the terrorist group.

The flag alongside a Qur’an belonging to Shekau was recovered by the Army during the capture of “Camp Zero,” a major stronghold of Boko Haram commanders, located in Sambisa Forest.

However, the PDP youth, in a statement on its twitter handle, @PDPNYF said the presentation of the insurgent flag to Buhari was a disgrace to the “sovereignty” of Nigeria.

The tweet reads: “By presenting a FAKE Boko Haram flag as a sign of victory against the Sect. This is so unfortunate and a disgrace to our sovereignty.”

The group noted that the “Flag and Quoran are not Shekau head. Could Obama bring back Osama Bin Ladin’s Qoran and Flag without killing him?”

  • ‘We have not been flushed out of Sambisa’, Shekau boasts in new video

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has resurfaced in a new video to debunk Nigeria’s government acclaimed victory over the deadly group and takeover of its Sambisa forest stronghold.

“We are safe. We have not been flushed out of anywhere. And tactics and strategies cannot reveal our location except if Allah wills by his decree,” Shekau said in the 25-minute video, flanked by armed fighters.

“You should not be telling lies to the people,” he said, referring to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari who said on Christmas Eve that the extremist group had been defeated and driven away from the forest, its last known bastion.

“If you indeed crushed us, how can you see me like this? How many times have you killed us in your bogus death?” he asked.

It was not immediately clear where the new video was shot, but Shekau who spoke in both Hausa and Arabic said it was filmed on Christmas Day.

Shekau last appeared in a video in September where he disputed a claim by the Nigerian military that he had been wounded in battle.

He vowed to continue fighting on until an Islamic state was imposed in northern Nigeria.

“Our aim is to establish an Islamic Caliphate and we have our own Caliphate, we are not part of Nigeria.”

It will be recalled that Buhari recently announced that a months-long military campaign in the 1,300 square-kilometre (500 square-mile) forest in northeastern Borno state had led to the “final crushing of Boko Haram terrorists in their last enclave in Sambisa Forest”.

He added that, despite the fact that, some foreigners were said to be among some of the militants arrested, the command is yet to have a comprehensive picture of the involvement of foreigners.
