Customs boss, Hameed Ali not sick, he is on leave – NCS

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has denied a media report that its Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), slumped on Wednesday and was flown abroad for medical treatment.
This is contained in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, signed by the Deputy Comptroller, Timi Bomodi, NCS Public Relations Officer.
He said the report was false, as Ali was hale and hearty and that he was on leave.
“The attention of the NCS has been drawn to an online report stating that the Comptroller General of Customs has slumped and was consequently flown abroad for medical treatment.
“To put the records straight, Ali is hale and hearty and not ill as reported by the unnamed online media outlet.
“The CG, who throughout his tenure, has sacrificed his time and energy to drive the reforms agenda of this administration has earned remarkable successes in restructuring and raising unprecedented revenues for the service.
“We know that some persons are trying to take advantage of his absence resulting from a well earned official leave to stir unnecessary controversy in the polity.
“This will not distract NCS management from carrying out its brief as it seeks to rebuild a world-class institution worthy of the prayers and support of all Nigerians, ” he said.
Bomodi reassured all stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians that all was well with the Comptroller General, warning that any falsehood would attract legal consequences.
A media report had claimed that the Comptroller General slumped on Wednesday while praying and that he had been flown abroad in a customs jet for medical attention.

‘Tinubu not dead, sick nor hospitalised’

Tunde Rahman, Special Adviser on Media to National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied his principal is dead or hospitalised.

Rahman made this known on Saturday in a statement following rumours the former Lagos Governor has passed on.

The statement reads: “His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fine. He is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalisation.

“Yes, he is out of the country at the moment. He will be back shortly. Anytime he travels out of the country, the next thing some mischievous people would say is he is sick, hospitalized or has died.

“It is shameful that perpetrators of this evil are not deterred by the fact that each time this fake news has been propagated, they have been proven wrong.

“Who really is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty.”

  • Nigerians deserve healthy President, PDP tells Amaechi

The Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and others, which it did not name, of allegedly attempting to force a sick president on Nigerians.

The party was responding to a claim by the former governor of Rivers State that even if Buhari contested from a sickbed in 2019, he would win in some core northern states.

The opposition party said Amaechi and others in government “actually know that the President is sick” and that Buhari did not possess the mental ability to lead the country.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who spoke to our correspondent, asked Nigerians to insist on a healthy president in 2019.

He said, “If Amaechi could say that the President would win on a sickbed, then he knows the health status of his principal. He knows that we have a sick leader who will not be able to give his maximum attention to the country.

“We don’t need such a man at this critical time. We need a President who will be able to work 24 hours and read all memos, stand at meetings and debate with people and the parliament. We don’t need a figurehead president that the likes of Amaechi are praying for.

“I know that people like him want a president they can deceive, who will not be on top of happenings in their ministries and in the country. They want a president who won’t watch television and who will not read newspapers. If that is what they want, they will meet their Waterloo in 2019.”

Secondus added that the battle ahead would be between what he called a desperate cabal and Nigerians who he said “will be desirous to get freed from the grip of the wicked.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the R-APC, Kassim Afegbua, said Nigerians deserved better than a President on a sickbed to provide leadership in the 21st century.

Afegbua said, “Unknown to Hon. Minister Amaechi, Nigerians do not want a man on sickbed, hence there is a general consensus that this present leadership should quit.

“The country is terminally ill as a result of bad and ineffective leadership. Nigerians have been prevailing on the President to sit down and offer leadership, but he has been racking his brain.”

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said he is still a member of the APC. The governor, who spoke through his Director-General, Media, Abubakar Shekara, stated this while reacting to claims by Amaechi.

Among others, Amaechi had said Tambuwal would defect from the APC, adding that Buhari would win Sokoto State without the governor in the APC.

Shekara said the governor would not take issue with the minister.

He stated, “My principal will right now, not take issue with anybody on who will win in what state, particularly Sokoto.

“Maybe, he would have reacted if the comment is centred on the candidate of another party and not the APC, which he is a bonafide member. How do you expect him to be taking issue with a fellow party member on the fortune of his party?”

Shekara also seized the opportunity to denounce speculations surrounding Tambuwal’s planned defection from the APC.

He added, “Tambuwal is still a member of the APC, and if there would be need for him to defect to another party, he would make his stand known at the appropriate time.”

  • Nobody can force Buhari to speak to Nigerians – Presidency

*Says Buhari no ill, no in any London hospital

The presidency yesterday dispelled rumours that President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill with an undisclosed sickness, stressing that nobody can however force the president to speak to Nigerians at a time he (Buhari) is on vacation.

It also said that the President was in London only on vacation and claimed he is not ill and also not on admission in any hospital in London.

The Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina made the clarification on Thursday in a live interview programme on CNBC Africa by the .

In the said programme monitored by TheNewsGuru.com, Adesina said that the rumoured hospitalization of the President was a figment of people imaginations.

“The President is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill.

“When he was travelling last week the statement we put out was that he was going on vacation and during the vacation he would do routine medical check-up and nothing has changed from what we pushed out last week.

“If anybody has fed something else into the rumour mill that is just what it is- rumour”, Adesina said.

The President’s spokesman said it was at the discretion of the President to choose whether to talk to Nigerians from the UK or not.

“The fact that he is a president, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and talk will be infringing on his rights. “The President will talk if he wishes to if he doesn’t wish to, nobody will compel him to talk.

“The truth is that the President is on vacation and he has given a date on which he will return to work,’’ he said.
