Wike: Will you die if you are no longer a governor – Fabara slammed for accepting ’slavery’ condition in Tinubu’s peace deal

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu has berated the suspended Governor, Sim Fubara, following reports of a peace deal meeting in Abuja.

TheNewsGuru recalls that on Thursday night, President Bola Tinubu brokered peace between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The closed-door meeting was held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Tinubu hosted Wike, Fubara, and the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, alongside a handful of lawmakers.

It was alleged that President Tinubu imposed a condition for the reinstatement of the suspended Rivers governor. According to reports, Fubara must not seek reelection in 2027.

Reacting, the PDP chieftain via his Instagram page on Saturday stated that Fubara embraced servitude and the utmost form of slavery as a means of reconciliation.

In his words:IS THIS THE DEMOCRACY WE FOUGHT FOR? A President in public glare tells an elected Governor to accept SERVITUDE and highest degree SLAVERY as RECONCILIATION… Mba!! Pls, what’s in this power that makes many Nigerians behave in such bizarre manner… FUBARA, sorry, I thought you said you were a man… Will you die if you’re no longer a Governor… Another one bites the bullet… WHAT A SHAME.”

Fubara exposes chats of Nwaeke demanding funds in exchange for his loyalty amid damning revelation (Sceenshots)

Sim Fubara, the suspended Rivers State Governor on Saturday exposed chats between former Head of Service (HoS), George Nwaeke and Chief of Staff, Ederson Ehie, to back his position that he (Nwaeke) may have been paid or coerced to lie against him.

TheNewsGuru reports that Nweke, in a stunning press briefing alleged that Fubara orchestrated the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex and plotted to destroy oil facilities across the state.

According to Nweke, Fubara directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to burn down the assembly complex to avoid impeachment. Nweke claims he witnessed a bag of money being handed over to Ehie for the operation.

The former Head of Service further credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state with averting total chaos and economic sabotage.

Nweke also clarified that his resignation was voluntary and not due to dismissal or external pressure.

In response, the suspended governor, in a statement signed personally on Saturday, described Nwaeke’s comments as laughable and urged Nigerians to disregard them.

He said, “The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me.”

Also, a series of WhatsApp messages Fubara sent to Channels Television suggested that Nwaeke had been reaching out to Ehie for funds and support in exchange for his loyalty, claiming that he earns ₦500,000, which was inadequate to meet his needs.

  • Wike behind pipeline explosion, state assembly almost completed – Fubara counters Tinubu’s allegations

Wike behind pipeline explosion, state assembly almost completed – Fubara counters Tinubu’s allegations

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, has refuted some allegations levelled against him by President Bola Tinubu.

TheNewsGuru reports that Tinubu during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, declared a state of emergency, and suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers House of Assembly members for six months.

The president also listed some of  Fubara’s offense in the ongoing crisis and appointed a sole administrator to take charge of the state.

He said, “It is public knowledge that the Governor of Rivers State for unjustifiable reasons, demolished the House of Assembly of the state as far back as 13th December 2023 and has, up until now, fourteen (14) months after, not rebuilt same. I have made personal interventions between the contending parties for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, but my efforts have been largely ignored by the parties to the crisis.”

Speaking on the president’s allegations, Fubara, in a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, addressed claims that the Rivers State House of Assembly complex had been abandoned following its demolition. He clarified that this assertion was false and noted that the construction of the new complex is 80% complete.

Fubara denied allegations that he did nothing to discourage criminal groups and militants from fulfilling their threats to attack oil installations.

He linked the pipeline attack to a controversial statement made about the Ijaws by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and pointed out his refusal to issue an apology.

Fubara also listed other instances when Wike’s supporters allegedly stoked tension, adding that his loyalists maintained calm.

The statement reads, “There was also another claim that after demolishing the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, the Governor did nothing to rebuild the facility.

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the statements as mere results of lack of adequate information to the Presidency by those tasked with the responsibility of providing same to guide decision-making, but it has become imperative to set the records straight and correct the erroneous impression such narratives are creating in the minds of the Nigerian people.

“First, it is important to clarify that Governor Fubara has nothing to do with the threats by militants and also did not in any way “telegraph” the reported attacks on any oil facility in the State.

“It is on record that the reaction of stakeholders in the Niger Delta, especially elders, chiefs, women, Ijaw National Congress, its youth wing, IYC, as well as militants, among others, was triggered by remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, in a live media chat, during which he dismissed Ijaws as a minority of the minorities and powerless in the Nigerian polity, saying that Ijaws are not the only ones that are militants and can blow up pipelines; that Ogonis, Ikwerres, and others are also militants and can as well blow up pipelines.

“Most of the Ijaw groups and leaders even demanded an apology from the FCT Minister, which he rebuffed.

“Available public records show that Governor Fubara, on several occasions and at every forum, including all the project commissioning events as well as the handover of the AW139 Helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force, between March 3 and 13, 2025, made it clear that his administration was committed to the peace, security, and safety of oil facilities in the State.

“He often recalled his pivotal role as a member of the Presidential Committee on the Protection of Oil Installations in the Region, and repeatedly emphasized the need to protect oil pipelines and other facilities in the State, urging his supporters and the people of the State to avoid acts capable of destabilizing the State or sabotaging the nation’s economy.

“Since inception as the Chief Executive of Rivers State, Governor Fubara has prioritized investment in upscaling the welfare and operational equipment of all personnel and arms of the Armed Forces and security agencies in the State by building livable office and residential accommodation for officers and men and donating vehicles, gunboats, helicopters, and other critical needs of the formations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of their duties.

“His commitment to total peace and good governance in the State has contributed significantly to increased oil production and revenues for the country since May 29, 2023, as the continuous rise in the accruable revenue from the State into the Federation Account has shown over the months.

“On the claim that the Governor acted with impunity to demolish the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly and did nothing to rebuild the Chambers 14 months after, it is on record that Governor Fubara acted based on professional advice and guidance.

“Let it be clarified that the former Governor and now FCT Minister repeatedly criticized the dilapidated and leaking Assembly Complex, and during the commissioning of the Assembly Quarters in August 2022, challenged the lawmakers to take responsibility for the poor state of the edifice, rejecting requests to rebuild it to ensure a conducive legislative environment for the lawmakers.

“It must be noted that immediately after the incident of October 29, 2023, and experts’ reports, the Government decided to heed the age-old demands of the lawmakers to rebuild the facility and promptly demolished the dilapidated structure to give way to a state-of-the-art Assembly Complex, which is now nearly 80 percent completed.”

All my political rivals have failed – Fubara

Rivers state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has mocked his political rivals in the state, saying that they all failed in their attempt to impeach him.

Fubara noted that despite their efforts, he remained the governor of the oil-rich South-South state.

The governor made his position known at a crossover church service at St Paul’s Archdeaconry Parish in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of the state.

“I want to urge everyone here. Don’t be frightened,”

“What they (opponents) want is this red biro,” Fubara said raising a red pen to the cynosure of all eyes. “But it is still with me; they have failed.”

“We are the winners because we are still signing with the red biro. And so long as we are signing with the red biro, development will continue in Rivers State.

“2024 will witness unprecedented height in our state. The only thing we ask from you is your support and prayers,” the governor stated.

Rivers State was a theatre of the absurd in the last three months with the state House of Assembly being the “boxing ring”. The rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, split lawmakers in the House with 27 of them decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a party in whose central government Wike currently serves as minister.

The feud also saw the emergence of parallel sittings, an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a gale of resignations of pro-Wike commissioners from Fubara’s cabinet.

President Bola Tinubu and some elder statesmen had intervened in the crisis earlier in October but it degenerated into a full-blown fight. The President again met with Wike and Fubara and members of their individual camps in December and a truce was reportedly reached.

Rivers Crisis: Wike dares Fubara’s loyalists, lands in Port Harcourt

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has dared people who asked him not to visit Rivers state by landing in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Wike’s landing in Rivers state is coming  few days after warnings and threats from some loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara not to step his feet into the state.

TheNewsGuru.com  reported earlier that Honourable Boma Goodhead, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Akuku/Asari Toru Federal Constituency and other protesters had dared Wike to step into Rivers State again.

They vowed never to fold their hands and watch the former Governor pocket Rivers State.

“We are here to tell Ahmed Bola Tinubu to call Wike to order because the next time he comes into Rivers State to disturb the peace of the state we’ll not fold our hands and watch.

“Wike should come to Rivers State and we’ll show him what it means to hold Rivers State. We dare you, come back to Rivers State again if you’re a man,” Goodhead had warned.

However, TheNewsGuru.com gathered that Wike landed in Rivers State in company of Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Minister of State, Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, Rivers Assembly members and some local government area chairmen.

Rivers Crisis: I’m disappointed at Nyesom Wike – Laolu Akande

Former presidential aide, Laolu Akande, has been left disappointed over the actions and inactions of the past Governor of Rivers State and current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Akande, who was the spokesman to former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, wondered why Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, cannot manage his own anointed governor.

According to Akande Wike who is very influential in politics has failed to manage the home fronts as expected of him.

The political crisis rocking Rivers State took a new turn this week with the demolition of the State House of Assembly Complex and defection of 27 members of the assembly loyal to Wike, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Recall that president Tinubu intervened in the crisis but his intervention has failed to yield positive results in the state.

Akande who was a guest on Channels television’s pogramme Politics Today on Thursday night noted that the FCT Minister shoild be doing better in managing the Rivers state  crisis.

“What is happening in Rivers State is very disappointing. Look, a lot of people had deep respect for the FCT Minister …you can easily see that Wike was the kind of guy that got it done and he got the reputation,” Akande said on Channels Television.

“He was called Mr. Project and all that. There’s quite a bit of political regard that you’ve to give to Wike. I think in this country today, after the President, Nyesom Wike is the most prominent politician.

“So, when somebody has attained that level of political relevance, it means you really have to carry yourself with a lot of grace, with a lot of measured management of the expectations around you.

“It is disappointing that the FCT Minister is not managing his own anointed governor and the responsibility is more on him than the governor. Wike is the senior partner in this matter and it is not good for him,” he added.

Fubara called for the meeting following the defection of 27 members to the APC on Monday.

The lawmakers had dumped PDP for APC during a sitting of the House.

The lawmakers were seen brandishing the flags of the APC in a group photograph after the sitting.

Wike-Fubara Power Tussle: ljaw group warns against resurgence of militancy in N/Delta

A militant group under the aegis of Ijaw Renaissance has warned that if the former Governor Nyesom Wike and his successor Sim Fubara is not adequately handled Nigerians should expect a resurgence of another oil war in the Niger Delta region.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by its leader, Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli and White Kalio.

    Read full statement below:

“We, members of ljaw Renaissance Force, a coalition of over O0 ethnic nationalities and youth groups operating in Rivers and Bayelsa, have watched with grave concern the ongoing power tussle between former Governor Nyesom Wike, now FCT Minister, and Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.

“We have also watched with baited breath attempts by some elected officials and other non state actors to stage manage the forceful removal rom office of duly elected Governor Fubara through the back door without any justifiable reason.

On its part, our coalition have equally made spirited efforts and reached out to both parties and other critical stakeholders in the power struggle in a bid to let sanity prevail so as to uphold the sacred mandate of Rivers people for the good governance they so much desired.

“We, therefore, state unequivocally that any attempted or vexed impeachment judicial stage managed removal of Gov. Sim Fubara from office would spell another return to the oil war struggle in Rivers.

A word is enough for the wise.

Rivers Crisis: Ijaw National Group calls on Wike, Fubara to reconcile

The Ijaw National Congress Worldwide has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Teritory, (FCT) Nyesom Wike to  reconcile with Governor Siminialayi Fubara for peace and prosperity of Rivers state.

According to the group,  Wike and Governor Fubara are under compulsion to make peace for the development of the state.

The group expressed discontent with the state’s political problems, particularly between Fubara and his predecessor, saying that it would always be on the side of truth and good administration.

The call for peace between Wike and Fubara was  made known via a statement released by the group’s President, Prof Benjamin Okaba, and made available to newsmen in Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday.

In the statement, the group commended the people of Rivers State for standing up to the alleged planned impeachment of Fubara and encouraged Wike not to destabilize the state’s existing administration.

The statement read, “We urgently call on all political players in Rivers State to play their duty to their constituents and forthwith cease from any further acts capable of slurring the sanctity of the office, institution, and person of the Governor of all Rivers people.

“We specifically appeal to Chief Nyesom Wike, to retrace his steps from stoking division of any sort against the government of the day under the guise of protecting his ‘structure’. The political structure to which he refers should not be rolled up with the structure of the government of Governor Fubara as one entity under anyone’s thumb.”
