Rivers political tussle: Power, money reveal true colour of Man – Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has said that it is when a man is given a position of authority and money that his true colour would be revealed.

Wike made this observation while reacting to a question on the update of his face-off with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara in Abuja last week.

The Minister who initially appears not have interest in making comment about the issue later opened up.

According to him: ” Give a man power and money, that is when you will know the person. If you have not given a man power and money don’t say you know the person.”

“He may be your friend, he may be your son, sister or mother or father. I don’t want to go into that” The minister stressed

He lamented that Fubara could seek to destroy the structure which produced him as governor just within three months of his emergence as governor.

“In three months, it is sad for someone to scatter a political structure that supported and bring you up.

You know what is painful?  All these allegations, I smile. Who and who sat with him. In all your doings be grateful in your life no matter the circumstance. Nobody who is a gentleman and a politician will support this kind of thing.”

On his achievements as governor of Rivers State, wike said:

“I was paying pensioner’s gratuity every month which were not paid by my predissersor. I took River State to the level where you cannot discuss politics in Nigeria without Rivers State.

I was an ordinary minister when I became a governor. I challenged the siting governor and I defeated his condidate. I worked hard.”

Wike reiterated his commitment to the success of the Tinubu administration even as he explained that the quest for justice was the key reason he and the G5 group of governors supported the presidential ambition of Tinubu.

According to the minister, good character should never be compromised on the alter of politics.

He pointed out that having worked for the emergence of Tinubu as President, and having been made minister of FCT, nothing would make him contest against the President in 2027.

“Tinube made me the FCT minister and I won’t allow anybody to crumble  our political structure. No!

Again, Wike attacks Fubara, says he has destroyed the political structure in Rivers state

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT)  has once again attacked Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State, saying he disobeyed President Bola Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

According to Wike,  Fubara disobeyed the directive from Tinubu and Shettima to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

In a media chat, the minister accused Fubara of destroying the political structure that made him governor.

Wike said: “We never knew that it will take you three months to scatter the political structure that picked you up. What is painful is seeing these propaganda and lies that I was angry. Did he (Fubara) buy form? Be grateful in your life in all circumstances.

“I will not allow anybody to crumble our political structure. I told him if you do this ring-road your second tenure would be assured, I took him to Germany to meet Julius Berger and they promised to do the road in three years which is the year leading to election. I told him if you do this road nobody will challenge you in Rivers State.

“Anything that will make me disrespect Mr President count me out, he disobeyed the President, disobeyed the Vice President. When the law speaks, thuggery, militancy, and ethnicity will run away.”

Rivers Crisis: APC Chieftain, Eze applauds Fubara for connecting with Amaechi

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has hailed Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, for allegedly discarding former predecessor, Nyesom Wike and reportedly aligning with ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi.

Eze has cautioned the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to refrain from his alleged custom of unbridled and overbearing indulgence targeted at resisting his sense of entitlement and lordship over the public and private lives and concerns of others.

Eze was reacting to the fuss between Fubara and Wike, which became public over the weekend and has transformed into a secessionist struggle for freedom and self-determination for Fubara and his government.

The former nPDP spokesman said that Fubara has earned his commendation for relying on his instincts by putting up a manly fight against acts that plague the conscience.

There is a report of  a rift among members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Sunday as some of them commenced impeachment proceedings against Fubara.

Eze said Wike had decided to move against Governor Fubara because he embraced the people-oriented programs of Amaechi for the development of the state.

Fubara had also rejected Wike’s moves to shut him out of every political engagement and decision within and outside the state to the extent that he was cautioned never to attend any political meetings in Abuja, including PDP -Governors Forum where he holds sway as Vice Chair.

Edison Ehie, Leader of the State House of Assembly had rejected the bid to impeach the Governor, having not committed any impeachable offence and was removed as the majority Leader.

However,  Edison has now been elected the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

  • Court Dissolves Parallel EXCOs of Rivers PDP, Questions Legitimacy of Governor-Elect Fubara’s Candidacy

Court Dissolves Parallel EXCOs of Rivers PDP, Questions Legitimacy of Governor-Elect Fubara’s Candidacy

Abuja, Nigeria – In a landmark ruling, the Abuja High Court has dissolved the parallel executive committees (EXCOs) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. The court declared that the EXCOs responsible for nominating Siminialayi Fubara as the party’s governorship candidate, in the primary were not the authentic EXCOs recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The case, with suit number W/6084, was brought before the court by Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo and Chief Abiye Davies, who represented the genuine state executive committee members of the Rivers PDP. The defendants named in the case were the PDP, along with Amb. Desmond Akawor and Dr. Benibo George, who were part of the parallel EXCOs falsely presenting themselves as the legitimate representatives, and INEC.

The court’s decision has now raised doubts about the legitimacy of Siminialayi Fubara’s candidacy and his subsequent victory in the March 18 governorship election. The entire process that led to his assumption of office as the Governor of Rivers State has been called into question.

The ruling of the Abuja High Court discrediting the parallel EXCOs has significant implications for the political landscape of Rivers State. Governor Nyesom Wike, who was believed to have been spurring and supporting the parallel EXCOs, may now face challenges regarding the validity of his actions and decisions.

Political analysts and legal experts have voiced concerns over the potential consequences of this judgment. They believe that if the EXCOs responsible for Fubara’s nomination were indeed not the authentic representatives recognized by INEC, his candidacy could be considered illegitimate. This situation could potentially lead to legal disputes and a reevaluation of the governor-elect’s tenure.

As the news of the court ruling spreads, stakeholders within the PDP and the wider political community are closely monitoring the developments. Many are eagerly awaiting further clarification on the implications for the Rivers State government.

The judgment of the Abuja High Court serves as a reminder of the critical role played by INEC in the electoral process and underscores the importance of adhering to due process and established guidelines in selecting candidates for public office. It remains to be seen how this ruling will impact the political landscape of Rivers State and what steps will be taken to address the concerns raised regarding the legitimacy of Governor-Elect Siminialayi Fubara’s candidacy.

Don’t expect Fubara to act like me – Wike tells Rivers people

Outgoing Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike has told the people of Rivers state not to expect the incoming governor, SIM Fubara to behave like him.

However, Wike noted that Fubara and his deputy would surpass his achievements with the people’s support.

Wike made this revelation while speaking at a public lecture and book presentation in his honour at Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

He urged Rivers people to understand no two persons are the same and should not expect the same level of relationship they experienced under his administration with the incoming government.

“Don’t compare that the way I relate with you should be the way the incoming administration must relate with you, no. We have different styles but what’s important is being able to deliver what will make out people to be happy,” he said.

The Governor attributed the success of his administration to the tremendous support from the leaders and people of Rivers.

Wike solicited support for his successor saying the failure of Fubara would rob off on all that made it possible to emerge as Governor.

He said: “I have that belief that the governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect will do very very well. He is somebody you can rely on. His yes is yes, that I can tell you.

“He is an accountant, they are very conservative. They don’t spend money anyhow. They spend the money where they know it will be useful. So, don’t rate us as the same. But he is a very good person.”
