    Nigerian multi-talented singer and music producer, Terry G used to be synonymous with controversies. The Akpako crooner has however debunked the claims, insisting that whatever made him controversial, were only mistakes he made in the past.

    According to him:” I do not like controversies. I was only a victim of controversies. All that I have done in the past that made me controversial were mistakes anyone could commit. I am still paying the price for my past. I did certain things I can never do again. I was a young boy, who was just having fun and enjoying music. My past still haunts me as I speak to you, as I am being judged for those actions. I have done things I am not proud of. I am now a scapegoat all because I represented the streets and I was not afraid to show it. I sacrificed myself for the new generation of artistes. All I was being criticized for are those things artistes do freely now and no one talks about them.”

     

     

     

     

     

  • Nigeria needs to appease children to get out of recession- Majek Fashek

    Nigerian Reggae legend, Majek Fashek fondly called the rain maker has urged the federal government to appease Nigerian children in order to get the country out of the prevailing economic recession.

     

    He emphasized that the government needs to pay attention to children and cater for their well-being . The revered Reggae legend also stated that he was never on drugs contrary to what many believe.

     

    Speaking with newsmen at a media parley organized to commemorate his 30 years on stage concert, he said:” The government doesn’t care about children. Nigeria needs to appease the children to get out of recession. That is why my new album is titled Weep not my children.

     

    The veteran singer also debunked the widely circulated reports that his addiction to drugs led to his sickness and music decline

    According to him: “I spent 25 years in the United States instead of them to promote me, they said I was on drugs. I never do cocaine, I never do drugs. I was just sick” he told journalists.

    Gone are those days when entertainers are contented with being in front of the cameras thrilling their fans. As a result of their fame and influence, these showbiz practitioners now consider themselves fit enough to run for political offices.

    This year singer, Jaywon in a recent chat with newsmen stated that there is nothing wrong if entertainers vie for political offices.

     

    According to him: “For me, nothing is wrong in Kcee or any entertainer wanting to run for political office. As long as you have what it takes to run and you show how credible that you are, people will definitely vote for you. The fact that the constitution was amended and gives a lot of people room to run, so the first set of people to run should be careful because of the future of the young ones coming behind them.

     

    “For me as an entertainer, I love my people in Kogi State and I am passionate about the youths there. That’s why I have promised myself that I will support all the younger generation of entertainers coming out from Kogi State.”

    You cannot travel down the history of Nigerian music without referencing Segun Bucknor who recently passed on at the age of 71.

    Bucknor was a versatile artiste influenced by music greats like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Wilson Pickett.

    Anyone who witnessed Segun Bucknor’s performance will not forget it in a hurry. During his stint with The Revolution band, he deployed bum-shaking women who danced to his music.He called these dancers The Sweet Things.

    1. Segun Bucknor attended the prestigious Kings College where he was in the choir and recorded music with Highlife bandleader Roy Chicago’s Rhythm Dandies dance band.

    On his return from schooling in America, he brought Soul music back to Lagos in 1968, where he was influenced heavily by Ray Charles.

     

    2.Along with four friends, a band called The Soul Assembly was formed and later rebranded as Segun Bucknor & The Assembly, adding later a trio of singers called The Sweet Things to his band.

     

    3. In 1975, with the emergence of Yoruba Afro-juju musicians like Sunny Ade, the growing westernized DJ Culture and the gradual disappearance of Eastern Nigerian musicians, during the civil war, Segun Bucknor disbanded The Revolution and focused on journalism, rarely seen performing as a musician again.

     

    4. Adanri Sogbasogba remains one of his greatest songs. The song rendered in Yoruba blended with the funky James Brown inspired horn riffs with a bouncy bass line, remains one of his unforgettable songs.

     

    5. Segun Bucknor’s foray into social commentary kicked off with the song ‘Son of January 15th’ (the date of Nigeria’s first military coup). The rhythm however changed when a Colonel from the Northern army sent a couple of his minions on to the stage. They took him aside and told him not to sing the song again.

     

     

    6. Bucknor died in Lagos on 11 August 2017 after suffering from multiple strokes at the age of 71. At the time of his death, he was suffering from hypertension and diabetes. He was survived by his wife Sola and his two children, Funke and Tosyn.

    Palmira says It took her nine months to be able to make the song. According to her: “A friend inspired the song after he wrote the first verse and gave me. I loved it and ran with it .His name is PITA”.

    “It took me this long to put this out because I was facing lots of challenges. Each time I tried, I get serious attacks .On different occasions, I was working on this, I had serious accidents, financial challenges, to the point I started multiple businesses just to save up. But nothing was happening. So I slowed down and I left it to God”.

    Speaking on the challenges gospel artistes face, Mmerife says It’s the challenge of getting funding.

    Hear her:“The challenge we face is majorly finance, getting funding, especially in the area of promoting a song. It takes money to record a song, it also takes money to promote it, not to talk of shooting a video. It’s quite challenging .There’s more to it but this is just a summary” she said.

    It is no longer news that Brazilian superstar Neymar has completed his world-record £198 million transfer from Barcelona to Paris St-Germain on Thursday night .With this astounding move, the deal makes him the world’s most expensive player at the moment.

    In his usual humorous fashion, Nigerian rapper and actor, Falz has reacted to the news of Neymar’s transfer stating that his children must become footballers.

    According to him:” My son and daughters must play football. Every child I give birth to must play football. They need to place their focus where focus is due.

    “We have sufficient lawyers in our family or which song do you want to sing that hasn’t been sung before? Just place your focus on this football.”

  • God will punish Nigerian politicians- Majek Fashek

    Nigerian reggae legend, Majek Fashek, who disappeared from the music scene for a long time, has revealed his angst towards Nigerian politicians. He said it is only Nigerian politicians who bury money in coffins.

    When quizzed by journalists on what his thoughts are about the state of the nation, he said:” My daughter is a citizen and I thank God for it. It is only in Nigeria that politicians bury money in coffins. Nigerian politicians are assholes, God go punish all of them.”

     

    Fashek was born in Benin City to an Edo mother and a Yoruba father, but identifies with his Benin roots. Various translations of his name Fasheke (Ifa-kii-she-eke) include “high priest who does not lie”, “powers of miracles” and “(system or medium of) divination does not lie”.

    After his parents separated Fashek remained in Benin City with his mother, and soon joined the choir in his local Aladura church and learned to play the trumpet and guitar whilst composing songs for the choir.

     

     

    In the early eighties Fashek, who at the time went by the stage name Rajesh Kanal, joined the group Jastix with McRoy Gregg, and lead singer Black Rice. They were best known as the in-house band on the show Music Panorama on NTA Benin, and toured with fellow reggae group The Mandators. Jastix were also session musicians for upcoming reggae singer Edi Rasta, who would later be known as Evi-Edna Ogholi.
