    2023 Headies Awards: Osas Ighodaro, Terrence unveiled as host

    Smooth Promotions the Headies Awards organizers have unveiled Nollywood actress, Osas Ighodaro and American actor-cum-media personality, Terrence J, as hosts for the 16 edition of the award event.

    For the second time running, the 6th Headies Award will hold at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA, on September 3rd, 2023.

    The same venue hosted the 15th edition last year when Headies Awards held outside Nigeria for the first time.

    African giant,  Burna Boy led the nominations for this year’s event with 10 nominations, including African artiste of the year, best Afrobeats album, best male artiste and song of the year.

    Asake, Fireboy DML, Ayra Starr, Oxlade, Johnny Drille, Blaqbonez, Spyro, Seyi Vibez, KCee and Victony are set to perform at the ceremony.

    Hit makers, Asake, Seyi Vibez, Young John, Victony, and Spyro have been nominated for the much coveted Next rated category of the 2023 Headies Award.

    The award is given to the most promising upcoming act in the year under review.

    Rave of the moment Asake has been tipped to scoop the award owing to his heroics in the music industry in the last one year.

    Headies disqualify portable for exhibiting ‘rascally attitude’

    Smooth promotions the organisers of the Headies Awards have disqualified singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as  Portable, from the list of nominees.

    Portable was disqualified for numerous offenses ranging from threat to life and affiliation to cultism.

    Recall that on the 25th of May 2022, Portable had threatened to kill, or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of awards he was nominated for if he does not emerge the winner.

    He was initially nominated  in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organisers also cited the criminal investigations carried out by the police over the singer’s recent attitude

    The statement reads in part, “We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.

    “Being subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, Mr Habeeb Okikiola is hereby disqualified from both categories of awards at the forthcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards scheduled to hold later this year.”

    Headies, organizer  had written a petition to the Nigerian Police Force, formally notifying them of the singer’s threat to other nominees of the award.

    They also asked the singer to tender an apology for his statement, which the singer later did.

     

    However, there seem not to be a change in the attitudinal disposition of the singer, hemce his diaqualification from the two categories he was nominated for.

     

  • Singer portable lands in trouble for threatening to kill Headies awards nominees

    The organizers of Headies music awards, Smooth promotions limited has frowned at singer Portable for making uncomplimentary comments about the show billed to hold in America in July.

    The rave-making singer  has been nominated for the Best Street-Hop Artiste and Rookie of the year awards according to the nomination list released by the Headies on Tuesday.

    The singer took to his Instagram page on Wednesday where he made death threats to other artistes featured in the categories he was nominated in.

    “Those are my awards, anybody else who wins I will ask for them to be killed. I will ask them to kill the person. If the organisers give my award to someone else, they will die,” he said in Yoruba. “No go give my award to another person, he go die o”

    In an official  statement made available  via Headies’ official Instagram account on Friday, it was revealed that Smooth Promotions  made a report to the police as regards the concerning video. The singer was also warned to retract his statement and make a written apology to his colleagues.

    The statement read in part, “The Headies condemns such act and is vehemently opposed to the utterance of any threats or actions that contravene our laws. We have notified the Nigerian Police Force of Okikiola’s actions to fellow nominees of the awards.

    “Also, demand that the immediate retraction of the video from Mr. Okikiola’s social media platforms, as well as a written apology to the nominees of both categories and to the Headies, must be made.
