  • May I never marry someone who’ll disgrace me on social media- Nkechi Blessing

Outspoken actress, Nkechi Blessing known for her role in ‘Omoge Lekki’ has said she wished to never make the mistake of marrying someone who would come to social media to disgrace her should the union eventually hit the rocks.

The Nigerian entertainment industry has witnessed a plethora of drama from former lovers after a failed relationship.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Kelly Hansome and Ronke Moradeyo, his baby mama, caused a social media stir after engaging in a heated war of words.

Reacting to the trend in a post on Monday, the actress said it is unfortunate that such practice has become the new normal on social media.

She wondered why lovers — known for flaunting romantic pictures, videos of themselves on the social media — would end up fighting each other on the same platform when they break up.

“In all the mistakes I will make in future, may I never make the mistake of marrying someone who will come and disgrace me on social media after a break up,” she wrote on Instagram.

“What happens to moving on in silence? This same social media you do all the lovey lovey, relationships goals, you still come here to say ill things about same person? God forbid…move on in peace and shut the “f*ck up it’s very simple.”

Oyo Governor, Makinde Fires Media Aide for posting fake news on social media

Barely 24 hours after he posted an untrue post on his Facebook page, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has sacked one of his media aides, Mr Murtala Adigun.

Until his removal, Mr Adigun, who is popularly known as Adigun Ibadan, served as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Media.

On Thursday, the former aide, a product of the prestigious University of Ibadan, posted pictures showing some fumigation equipment purchased by the Lagos State government as an achievement of his boss.

He was highly criticised for lying about this after he captioned the images, “Oyo state Government in her readiness to combat the escalation of COVID-19 virus purchases disinfecting machines to be used across the State.”

Apparently embarrassed by the backlashes that followed the social media, which many commenters described as #FakeNews, the Governor promptly took an action and relieved Mr Adigun of his position.

On Friday, in a dismissal letter addressed to him, the Governor thanked Mr Adigun for his short stay on the job, having been appointed just over a month ago, precisely on February 7, 2020.

The letter was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, and was dated Friday, March 27, 2020.

Mrs Adeosun stated in the letter that the governor had approved the termination of his appointment as Special Assistant (Digital Media) with immediate effect, wishing him success in future endeavours.

After his dismissal, Mr Adigun blamed social media critics for the Governor’s action, saying on Twitter today that, “You called for it, you have gotten it. Thanks to everybody that contributed to my downfall.”

  • Social media might end up ruining the peace in the society- Yomi Fabiyi

Social media might end up ruining the peace in the society- Yomi Fabiyi

Popular actor and filmmaker, Yomi Fabiyi has averred that social media might end up ruining the peace in the society.

The outspoken actor noted that bloggers need to verify their stories before publishing.

“Anybody can choose to blog. Anybody can choose to work in the media. It is allowed. There’s that freedom to express yourself. But when anybody chooses to go into that business of writing about others, you should know that that is a responsibility to credibility and honesty. You will not come and start writing about another person’s image, behaviour, and life and keep your own life and those of your family sacred. If you want to write, you write because you swore to always report verified truth. Even if you run a gossip blog, you gossip about things that are true. Some people will not look at the positive parts of those arts, they focus on the evil part of it. They stay on the other side and call it blogging but they use it to hurt people, to damage people, to oppress and to create anarchy. If care is not taken, things will go the wrong way because social media will end up ruining the unity and peace in the society.

“That is why people like us will say that blogging does not mean you should start creating a problem all over the place. If you want to gossip that should be after you probably got an authentic story that you want to blog about. If you’re in the media business, people will definitely write about you but you cannot operate a media platform in secrecy. Immediately you start making use of a media platform and you’re not known to the government, one, they cannot hold you accountable. Two, you’ll use it as a tool of oppression and lastly, you won’t be called to reckoning whenever you make mistakes”, he told Premium Times.

  • You can rise above the urge to comment on every social media post- Toke Makinwa

You can rise above the urge to comment on every social media post- Toke Makinwa

Media personality, Toke Makinwa has stated that social media users should learn not to resist the urge to comment on every post.

Makinwa made this known in a new episode of ‘Toke Moments’, her Vlog series.

The new episode of the series, dubbed ‘Social Media for dummies 101’, focuses on educating first time social media users.

“You don’t have to throw stones at every dog that barks. Somethings are just not worth it. You can rise above the urge to comment on every post on social media, rise above the urge to argue on social media, rise above the urge to comment on everything on social media,” she said in the video.

“I did this video because of people who are apprehensive about social media. It’s not that bad honestly. You can just do your bit, do what concerns you.”

Toke also slammed those condemning the use of social media, noting that the platform could be used meaningfully without abuse.

“This is actually like a soft way to land and actually to make you see that social media can be fun and still be engaging at the same time,” she said.

“Some people are not on social media yet. It’s a good reason but with the way the world is revolving now, your business, parts of what you do is all about social media. It has come to stay regardless of how we see it—whether for it or against it. Some people talk about maturity, when you talked about social media beside them, they make you feel as ‘it’s that thing that people do that is not good.

“It’s good reason because I don’t blame them. Social media is a place that if you are not careful, they can tell you the story of your life–how you were born, where you were born, the time you were born, how you cried, how your legs were spread and so on.

“So, join social media, there more advantages than disadvantages.”
