Not my job to keep Man Utd players happy – Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United squad players it is not his job to keep them happy, as several fringe men prepare for a campaign with limited game time.

The Norwegian has an over-inflated squad, with the club so far unable to sell players who aren’t key to Solskjaer’s plans.

Phil Jones is still at the club but made only two Premier League matchday squads last season. Marcos Rojo is another player who they are willing to sell but no deals have been agreed.

Andreas Pereira has missed out on both squads so far this season, Jesse Lingard did not play the first league game and Sergio Romero has fallen down the pecking order with the return of Dean Henderson from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

“You know, players are happy when they win well and win games, I am too, it’s not my job to keep them happy,” Solskjaer said ahead of his side’s trip to Brighton. “It’s to pick players to get results, and up to them to be fit and be ready when called upon.”

Three managers to replace Solskjaer at Man Utd

Manchester United chiefs have drawn up a three-man shortlist of managers to replace under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to Star Sport.

United executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is reluctant to sack Solskjaer. But the club has still drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Solskjaer if results fail to improve, with Pochettino, Gareth Southgate and Julian Nagelsmann figures of interest.

Solskjaer is fighting to save his job at Old Trafford, with United’s points tally of 34 their lowest at this stage of the season since 1990.

The Red Devils find themselves six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea and 33 points below Premier League leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.

Solskjaer initially impressed after he was appointed on an interim basis following Jose Mourinho’s sack.

But the Norwegian is now the bookmakers’ favourite to become the next managerial casualty.
