He said telecoms customers are encountering in-comprehensive speech and voice quality that is unclear during phone conversations.

He said GSM operators in Nigeria had recently been experiencing terrible congestion on their networks, thus denying subscribers benefit of getting value for their resources.

  • US offers $1m reward for capture of Osama bin Laden’s son

US offers $1m reward for capture of Osama bin Laden’s son

The US Department of State announced on Thursday that it is offering a reward “of up to $1 million” for information that leads to the capture of Hamza bin Laden, the son of deceased former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

A statement released by the department goes on to note that Hamza “is emerging as a leader in the [al-Qaeda] franchise” and that “since at least August 2015, he has released audio and video messages on the Internet calling on his followers to launch attacks against the United States and its Western allies.”

It also notes that Hamza has made threats against the US in the name of “revenge for the May 2011 killing of his father by US service members.”

The State Department identified Hamza as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” in January 2017, and later stated that “all property subject to US jurisdiction in which Hamza bin Laden has any interest is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with him.”

Hamza was declared an official member of the group in August 2015 by al-Qaeda senior leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. Per the State Department, the 2015 declaration included an audio message in which Hamza “called for acts of terrorism in Western capitals.”

Additionally, the United Nations Security Council committee concerning al-Qaeda added Hamza to its sanctions list. In a statement the committee explained its move was the result of Hamza being “given a more prominent role within al-Qaeda.” The decision subjects Hamza to an assets freeze, travel ban and an arms embargo.

Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011, in Pakistan by US Navy Seals in a mission codenamed Operation Neptune Spear. At the time, officials stated that Osama’s body was later buried at sea. The al-Qaeda group confirmed Osama’s death a few days afterward.

  • 80-year-old father visits Boko Haram camp, begs ‘commander’ son to surrender

80-year-old father visits Boko Haram camp, begs ‘commander’ son to surrender

Mallam Baba Modu, an 80-year-old father of a Boko Haram commander, popularly called ‘Ba-Ana,’ has narrated how he travelled to the Lake Chad camp of the Al Barnawi faction of the sect to plead with his son to dump the insurgents.

Modu, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Maiduguri, said his efforts to convince his son to surrender and embrace peace failed.

He said he was unable to persuade his son to abandon the cause and surrender himself to the Federal Government’s Operation Safe Corridor.

Recounting his ordeal, Modu said his son was conscripted by the insurgents in 2012 at a farm in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

He said, “I lost hope of meeting my son after his abduction in the past seven years. One day, I met someone who told me that my son was alive and mentioned where I could find him.

I was also told he is one of the commanders of the Al Barnawi faction of the Boko Haram sect.

I travelled to the shores of the Lake Chad to plead with Ba-Ana to surrender and embrace peace. It took me about one week to get to where I met him.

When I arrived at the camp, I told them that I am the father of Ba-Ana and after a series of interrogations, they asked me to wait for him to return from a mission.

Ba-Ana returned at night, he was surprised to see me, and when he heard my voice; he told his men that I am his father.

I pleaded with him for about 30 days in a bid to convince him to lay down his arms and embrace peace, regrettably he did not heed my counsel.

Ba-Ana confessed that he killed many people and believed that the authorities would not forgive his crimes. He also believed that he had committed his life to the cause of God.

I have not lost hope; I will continue to pray to God to heal his soul and bring him back to me,” he said.

Meanwhile, the military said on Wednesday that it was clearing the remnants of Boko Haram on the major road leading to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

A statement signed by the spokesman for the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, said there was no truth in media reports that the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road had been closed to motorists.

The Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, he said, was perhaps the only safe road leading to the town and had it been closed, the town would have been cut off from the rest of Nigeria by road.

The road in the last one week had become the latest theatre of war between the military and the terrorist group which is threatening to capture Maiduguri.

The insurgents have, however, suffered heavy casualties as they have continued to fall under air and land bombardments of the Nigerian military.

A statement by Nwachukwu partly read, “Our attention has been drawn to rumours that the Nigerian Army has closed the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road. This is not true. What is happening is an ongoing clearance and snap check operations in the general area required to clear suspected Boko Haram terrorists along that road.

The clearance operation is ultimately for the safety and security of motorists and other road users.”

He added, “Members of the public are advised to cooperate and bear with the troops as they carry out these duties.”

  • John Dumelo welcomes son

Talented Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo is now a father.

The excited role interpreter made the announcement via his Instagram page on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

John Dumelo in an open letter to his son couldn’t hide his joy over his arrival and promised to be a great dad.

“John Jnr @johnd_jnr I’m glad you have finally arrived. It’s been months, weeks, days and hours of waiting…..You look just like we imagined. Infectious smile, bright eyes, curly hair, and chocolate skin. Before I get all emotional and write a whole book, lemme let you have these few words to guide you. You can do anything you want and be whoever you want to be just like how my dad allowed me to explore…Never give up.

“Always aspire to be better and do better than before. Be a beacon of kindness and truth in this world. Don’t have hate in your heart or carry grudges. It is not worth the time and effort it takes when there are so many things in this world to enjoy and love. Do not let others influence who you choose to be, both as a person and in a career, because it is not their life to live, it is yours and it is the most beautiful thing,” he wrote.

It didn’t end there, as he hilariously revealed that he couldn’t change diapers and prayed his son won’t laugh at him when the time comes.

“Think outside the box JJ. Be a risk taker just like I am and don’t be afraid to fail. Failure gives you experience. Use that experience to conquer the world. Let God be your best friend and let Him guide your steps. I will start reading the Bible to you soon and that’s when you will understand how mysterious God works. And one last thing…I really don’t know how to change diapers, so please don’t laugh when that’s happening. I want to be better than my father….and I want you to be greater than me. Love, John Setor Dumelo, your Dad,” he concluded.

The latest addition to the family is coming a few months after he tied the knot with his wife, Gifty Mawunya.
