  • ‘Evangelist’ kills wife, son after she confessed the child wasn’t his

‘Evangelist’ kills wife, son after she confessed the child wasn’t his

A 28-year-old ‘Evangelist’, Chukwuemeka Obijofa, has explained the reasons why he allegedly killed his wife and 4-year- old son in Ofufe Nza village Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspect was arrested last month after attacking the wife, Chisom and his child, Amanda on their heads with a shovel.

He was said to have wounded a vigilante man who attempted to rescue the victims with the same object.

Obijofa, who was paraded on Saturday at the Police headquarters in Amawbia, together with other suspects, confessed he killed the wife over infidelity.

He said the wife had confessed to him that the only son they had was not from him, adding that his anger grew the day he returned home to see her with two strange men.

He said, “I opened my eyes in the police station and found out that I’m responsible for killing my wife and my son. I killed her out of anger after I found out that she’s been cheating on me for long. I didn’t believe it because of the level of love and trust I have for her.

“I came back from work and found out that the food they have was not enough for them. I stepped out to collect money from a client so I can get something for them.

“But when I came back later, I discovered she wasn’t alone at home. She was with two men that I don’t know. When I tried to enquire who they were, she asked me to keep quiet that she would explain later. She later took me to the room for explanations.

“Before I could come out, the guys have left without informing us. I became angrier. My wife was trying to calm me down but I couldn’t bear it due to the level of love and trust I have for her.”

The suspect, a carpenter who claimed to have lived peacefully with the late wife since five years of marriage, said the Indian hemp he took shortly after to pacify his anger, rather triggered it.

“As I was about to leave, I told her that I’m leaving the house for her and her boyfriends who she’s preferred and more comfortable with.

“I went straight to where I took some hemp to calm myself and feel relieved. But unexpectedly, I found out that the hemp even made it worse that I lost my conscience. I couldn’t behave like a human being again.

“It became obvious to me that another demon or extraordinary spirit has possessed me. Besides, nobody was around to control me. I didn’t know what else that happened till I opened my eyes to find out that I’ve killed my wife,” he added.

Expressing remorse over his actions, Obijofa who claimed to be an ordained evangelist, said he was warned by his pastor against the consequences of such vices, just as he warned youths to steer clear of contraband products, especially hard drugs.

“I was ordained in 2012 as an evangelist. If I pray, it comes to pass. But when I began to fall out from God’s mercy, my pastor warned me that a day is coming when I’ll face the consequences. He said his God didn’t want me to pay the supreme price.

“But I couldn’t believe it until today I’m giving this message to those it has not happened to. Please, whatever government declared contraband, especially hard drugs, please steer clear from them. It has a way of impacting another spirit in you,” he added.

Inheritance sharing: Late Niger governor’s son drags mother to Sharia Court

Umar Kure, one of the sons of the late ex-Niger governor Abdulkadir Kure, has taken his mother Senator Zainab Kure to the Sharia Court of Appeal, Niger State.

Kure is challenging the distribution of his father’s estate by an Upper Sharia Court/Administrator.

He listed the widow, three other children of the deceased and the estate of his late father as respondents in a motion on notice filed as No SCA/NS/CV/O4/2020 against the decision of the court/administrator in Suit No USC/MK/CV/139.

The applicant is seeking an order of the Sharia Court of Appeal for extension of time to seek leave to appeal, another order for leave of the court to appeal and an order for extension of time within which to file the notice of appeal.

In a 16-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion, a person named Blessing Abraham deposed that “the appellant is dissatisfied with the decision of the trial court/administrator in the distribution of the estate in question.”

She noted that the appellant and his counsel were not present on the date the purported distribution was made and that he was not aware of the sharing of the estate on December 11, 2019 until he was served the decision on January 27, 2020, thereby elapsing the 30 days within which he could appeal.

Umar is also challenging the distribution of his father’s estate without payment of all debts of the deceased, adding that he was not given fair hearing in the distribution of the estate.

  • Sissoko, Son fire Tottenham into League Cup final

Sissoko, Son fire Tottenham into League Cup final

Tottenham Hotspur reached the League Cup final after goals from Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min sank Championship side Brentford 2-0 on Tuesday.

The victory helped Spurs to set up a clash with Manchester United or Manchester City in April’s showpiece.

Fellow London side Brentford, playing in their first semi-final in a major cup competition, started brightly in the match.

But they fell behind in the 12th minute when unmarked French midfielder Sissoko headed in a fine Sergio Reguilon cross from the left.

The visitors, who had beaten four top-flight teams on their way to the semi-finals, thought they had drawn level after the break when striker Ivan Toney headed home.

But the goal was disallowed for a very tight offside, which was spotted by VAR.

Toney’s grounded knee was ruled to be offside before he rose to head in from close range after Ethan Pinnock nodded a cross back across the face of goal.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side soon responded to that let-off.

South Korean forward Son collected a fine pass from Tanguy Ndombele and burst goalwards before slotting past goalkeeper David Raya to make it 2-0 after 70 minutes.

League second tier side Brentford’s disappointment was compounded when Josh Dasilva was sent off six minutes from time for an over-the-top challenge on Tottenham’s Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane was immediately substituted with blood streaming down his shin.

Spurs have not won a major trophy since their League Cup triumph over Chelsea in 2008.

But this will be their ninth appearance in the final of the competition, which they have won four times.

The showpiece match will be held at Wembley on April 25, after the Football League moved the date back from February to increase the chances of fans being able to attend.

Manchester United host city rivals Manchester City in the other semi-final at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

  • Kane, Son doing ‘special things’ – Mourinho

Kane, Son doing ‘special things’ – Mourinho

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are doing “special things” for Tottenham Hotspur this season, manager Jose Mourinho said.

This was following the dynamic duo both scoring in a 3-0 win over Leeds United that lifted Spurs to third in the Premier League on Saturday.

Kane gave his side the lead from the penalty spot — his 10th league goal of the season — then combined with Son who doubled Tottenham’s tally just before halftime.

It was Son’s 100th goal for Tottenham and the 13th time this season that the pair had combined for a league goal, equalling the whole season record set by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton for Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95.

“I think in the Premier League there are many good players everywhere even in clubs where you don’t believe they can have great players,” Mourinho said.

“But I have to say that Sonny and Harry are doing special things this season.

“They are very good players as you know for many years.

“I want more goals, especially from other players but today the second goal is great, is also great because it was something we spoke about against a team that defends the way Leeds does.”

While the scoreline rather flattered Tottenham against a Leeds side who enjoyed 64% possession, it snapped a four-game winless sequence in the Premier League and sent Mourinho’s side back into the top four of the table.

They are in third spot with 29 points from 16 games, four behind joint-leaders Liverpool and Manchester United.

“Of course the result is important.

”We didn’t play the last match and the run of results in the least few weeks was not good so we needed these three points so we go up a little bit in the table,” Mourinho said.

Tottenham’s game in midweek was postponed after Fulham players tested positive for COVID-19.

This is a decision that Mourinho still find puzzling on the day that three of his own players were condemned for breaking the rules to attend a party.

“I go back to the initial rules of if you have 14 players available you have to play,” Mourinho said.

“I don’t see another reason for not doing it. I think every club does the best for their players to keep them all safe but then there are moments in private lives which you cannot control.

“Not everyone can be blamed so we have to carry on. If somebody has some positives, we have to play.”
