Ex-Italy international, Paolo Maldini and his son Daniel have tested positive for Coronavirus.

Italy is the worst hit by Coronavirus, burying a record 793 people on Saturday, taking the tally of the dead to world’s largest 4,825.

Milan have reassured supporters that both men are doing well, however, and they are expected to make a full recovery.

A statement from Milan said Maldini, the club’s technical director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for Coronavirus and began to display symptoms of the virus himself.

It said he was administered with a swab test on Friday and that the result was positive, adding that his son, Daniel, a forward in AC Milan’s youth team who had previously been training with the first-team, also tested positive.

The statement said Paolo and Daniel were both well and had already completed two weeks at home without contact with others.

According to the statement, they would now remain in quarantine until clinically recovered, as per the medical protocols outlined by the health authorities.

I’m not in anybody’s space and I’m not threatened by anybody in the movie industry. However, I plan to really be in people’s faces this year. I just wanted to have fun in 2020 but it’s been loss of work for me”.

  • SON to unveil sealed code to detect fake products

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has concluded plan to unveil sealed code to enable buyers or consumers to detect fake products in the markets.

The SON Coordinator in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Dimka Gambo, made this known at Business to Business monthly session in Abuja on Saturday.

Represented by Mr Papa’a Johnson, the Principal Standard Officer of the organisation, said the code would be inaugurated this year.

Gambo explained that when that was inaugurated, the unregistered products using standard organisation certified logo would be easily detected.

He however said porous borders and smuggling activities were reason for the influx of unregistered products in the country.

Meanwhile, the coordinator disclosed that in line with the policy of the Federal Government on ease of doing business, SON had offered 50 per cent subsidy on standard services provided by SON to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

He said this development was put in place to boost the SMEs in the country.

According to him, apart from this discount, the organisation also gives technical assistance to SMEs to enable such segments of business to grow.

The coordinator reiterated SON’s commitment to ensure the country got rid of fake and substandard products.

The Convener of the business to business group, Dr Mustapha Popoola, had earlier urged Federal Government to come up with policy that would put into consideration the dynamic nature of every part of the country for business to thrive.

Popoola said there was need to take cognisant of diversity of various cities in the country pointing out that the model that worked in Kano state might not work in Lagos or elsewhere.

He underscored the need for regular engagement of the private sector by government through a platform like business to business to help find a solution that would lead to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive, hence boosting the economy.

There’s nothing anybody can do if I make my son chief of staff – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu says Babajide, his son, worked hard during his campaign and there is nothing anyone can do if he decides to appoint him as his chief of staff.

Speaking in Akure during a dinner organised in commemoration of his third anniversary as governor, Akeredolu said his son worked harder than most members of the campaign.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor, who is seeking another term, charged the people to put in their best so he could secure another term.

“When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my chief of staff, he can be; did you do more than him in the campaign? Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba in the campaign? How many?” he asked.

“The young boy was going everywhere and all of us saw him but we decided not to because he wouldn’t want it. My son is satisfied, that’s why. If he is not, I will put him somewhere, there is nothing anybody can do. I will put him there, there is nothing you can do. Is he not my son? Is he not from Ondo state? Has he not worked?”

Akeredolu and wife with Babajide, their sonThe governor also thanked Betty, his wife, saying he is not sure if the state could have a better first lady.

“I can never forget the great work that my wife has done in this state, I am not sure you can find a better first lady, someone who has great interest in women, great interest in children, great interest in whatever is good,” he said.

“I say to people, when I look at my wife, I say, look your wife can follow you because of love but you can’t take the love of her place from her. This is someone who loves you, loves this state and equally love her own state. You can’t find a better First Lady, you can’t see cause she’s committed to women cause. I am not too sure I know many women who are in government today who are there on their own.

“It’s all her efforts fighting me every-time that you can’t be for men alone, women must be in local government, they must be chairmen.”

Akeredolu also said he is ready to confront members of Unity Forum, a faction of the party allegedly frustrating his attempt to get a second term ticket.

He said he is no longer interested in any peace meeting but “battle ready” for members of the group.

EFCC foils father’s attempt to smuggle hard drug to detained son

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a 60-year-old fish-farmer, Muyiwa Otuyalo, for attempting to smuggle a substance believed to be hard drug for his son, Damilola Otuyalo, who is currently in the custody of the commission’s Ibadan zonal office.

The older Otuyalo was at the premises of the EFCC in Ibadan on Monday, supposedly to visit his son. But while discussing with the son, an officer noticed that he brought out a sachet of tablets and handed same to him. The officer subsequently raised alarm which led to the confiscation of the drug.

When the in-house nurse was called upon for assessment of the content, it was revealed that the said item was Rohypnol, a tranquilizer used under strict prescription for treatment of severe insomnia and assist in anesthesia.

The drug is said to possess high sedative effect and is rarely used except when prescribed by licensed medical officers.

The younger Otuyalo was recently arrested after a criminal case of money laundering detected in the United Kingdom and reported against him. The case which involved £45,000 was a fragment of a wider one involving about £500,000 for which he has been declared wanted by the London’s Metropolitan Police. He has been on the wanted list of the International Police, Interpol, before the petition was filed at the EFCC, Ibadan zonal office.

Officers of the Nigerian Interpol were already in contact with the commission in respect of the said case before the suspect’s father attempted to smuggle in the hard drug for him.

Further investigations are ongoing, even as the commission intends to hand him over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for possible prosecution of the suspected narcotic case.

  • EPL: Son seals late victory for Mourinho

EPL: Son seals late victory for Mourinho

Son Heung-min’s stoppage time goal gave Tottenham a last-gasp victory in an entertaining game at Aston Villa as the visitors moved up to fifth in the Premier League table.

The result means Jose Mourinho’s side have leapfrogged Sheffield United and are now a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

Villa, who remain a point above the bottom three in 17th, made the stronger start and took the lead via Toby Alderweireld’s own goal – with the Spurs defender prodding Anwar El Ghazi’s cross past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The Belgian atoned for his error by equalising with a superb angled effort that flew into the top right corner of the Villa goal from 10 yards.

Spurs, who always looked dangerous in attack, went in front when Steven Bergwijn won a penalty after being fouled by home defender Bjorn Engels.

Son’s initial spot-kick was saved by Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina, but the South Korean forward followed up to score and become the first Asian player to reach 50 Premier League goals.

The hosts responded after the break with Engels heading in from a Jack Grealish corner to level the scores.

However, another Engels mistake allowed Son to race clear late on to place the ball past Reina as Villa’s miserable run against sides in the top half of the table continued.

  • SON shuts 13 firms over standards infractions

SON shuts 13 firms over standards infractions

Thirteen steel factories were on Monday shut by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), over failure to adhere to standards.

The factories, which are located in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Abia and Edo states, were shut following nationwide market surveillance carried out by the organisation’s task force between last November and last month.

The Chairman, SON Task Force on Steel, Mr Enebi Onucheyo, who spoke in Lagos on Monday, maintained that the affected companies will remain shut till further notice.

According to Onucheyo, samples of various steel products were obtained from the open market and the companies’ facilities during the surveillance.

“Laboratory tests and analysis done on the samples reveal that most companies fail to meet the minimum requirements for diameter and mass per meter as provided in NIS 117:2004. These are critical parameters in the standard for reinforcement bars for concrete,” he said.

Onucheyo said some of the companies were found to have tampered with products earlier placed on hold in their facilities by SON. For instance, he said that an unregistered identification mark “GE” was discovered in one of the products sampled.

Onucheyo stressed that it would be a continuous exercise to further the organisation’s commitment to protect consumers from the dangers associated with substandard and life-endangering products.

SON’s Director-General, Mr Osita Aboloma, who commented on the enforcement activity, reiterated the need to promote quality Made-in-Nigeria products preparatory to implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Tragic! Son flees after stabbing parents to death in Lagos

A young man, Micheal Okhide, has escaped after allegedly stabbing his father, Clement, and mother, Toyin, to death in their house located on No 6, Akeem Gbadamosi Street, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

Michael and his parents were at home when an issue happened which led him to perpetrate the crime.

Afterwards, it was learnt that the 23-year-old also purportedly attacked his sister, Mercy, an NYSC serving corp member, who just returned home around 5.30pm, from her primary place of assignment.

Michael’s sister, Mercy, said when she got home, she saw bloodstains in the house, adding that her brother apparently attacked her but she escaped with wounds.

She said, “When I got home around 5.30pm, I met the entrance door open and saw blood on the net. The door to the kitchen was also open but when I entered into the kitchen, I saw that there was bloodstain everywhere and I became scared.

“As I was leaving the kitchen, I heard my mummy screaming my name that I should run, and immediately, I saw Michael came where I was and I saw bloodstains on him.

“He told me to come inside and I refused, so, both of us started struggling and he stabbed me in my stomach and my hands but I was lucky that the cut was not deep. He wanted to prevent me from escaping but I was lucky to escape and he ran back inside and later I heard that he ran away and locked the gate with a padlock”, she told Punch.

An occupant in the area, who identified himself as Salau, said Michael escaped after perpetrating the crime, alleging that he was a drug addict that had been rusticated from three universities.

“I know that boy that killed his parents; he stabbed the mother and the father to death and also stabbed his sister who just got back from work where she is serving but she was able to run out of the house and survived. The police from the Ejigbo Police Division visited the scene of the crime yesterday to evacuate the corpses and also came today for further investigation.

“Nobody was around when he stabbed his parents to death in their apartment. That boy has been a torn in their flesh and was a drug addict that had been rusticated from three private universities. He ran away after perpetrating the crime.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of Michael, adding that the corpses were evacuated to the Isolo General Hospital.

Elkana said, “On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, around 6pm, I was alerted that a young man, Michael Okhide, 23, had killed his father, Clement Okhide, 60 and suspected to have seriously injured his mother on No 6 Akeem Gbadamosi Street. When our men were mobilised to the scene, we found Clement, dead in the pool of his blood in the kitchen. Blood was also seen all over the kitchen and a thorough search of the house led to the discovery of the remains of Clement’s wife, Toyin, 50, in one of the locked-up rooms upstairs.

“Two corpses were recovered and deposited at the Isolo General Hospital’s mortuary. The assailant equally stabbed his sister, Mary, in the stomach and on the hands. She has visited the Ejigbo Health Centre where she received treatment. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing assailant.”
