Southern Kaduna Crisis, Nasir El-Rufai and his Traducers: What Next?, By Danjuma Musa
By Danjuma MusaFor those that continue to wonder in utter bewilderment why the Southern Kaduna crisis seems unresolvable, the simple reason is the hardline position of the some tribal development associations and their umbrella body, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) to the issue of Hausa/Fulanis, though long settled in the region, are denied recognition as bonafide indigenes and often derogatorily referred to as “settlers”. That position is not likely to change soon considering the hardening body language of the irredentist SOKAPU, which indicates that the only acceptable condition for peace in Southern Kaduna, agreeable to them, is the “immediate expulsion” of “settlers” like the Professor Kabir Matos’, and the Sanusi Maikudis’, either by extermination or by threat of violence,a tactics obviously learnt from the Israelis that randomly expelled Palestines as part of its scorched earth annexation policy.Jonathan Asake, the rabid President of SOKAPU, denied registration by Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) due to its divisive political activities, pointedly told Sanusi Maikudi on Channels Television “go back to your State”, a statement that bears testimony to the fact, that every other issue about the crisis, flows from or revolves around this fundamental issue.SOKAPU, over the years has undoubtedly succeeded through sustained campaign of half truths, outright lies and misinformation, in portraying the crisis as genocide and land grab by a rampaging militia allegedly backed by the state, even when no piece of land is occupied by local or foreign forces. It has definitely surpassed Joseph Gooebbels, Hitler’s notorious propagandist in notoriety, with the strategy that has perfectly enabled it to easily hoodwink the evangelical Christians that already believes in a Hausa/Fulani “Islamization” agenda. Cashing in on these strong religious/political sentiments, it has aggressively pushed several misleading narratives; portraying Christians as victims, a people that have been more sinned against, than have sinned, exaggerating skirmishes as atrocities, while bluntly refusing to admit heinous crimes perpetuated by the indigenous people against the so called “settlers”. But while the largely illiterate Hausa/Fulanis, lacks the media manipulative skills of the more educated indigenous Christians, they always exert on their own terms their pound of flesh, which generates media attention due to the disproportionate proportions. But like every lie, the one sided narrative by SOKAPU, that obviously finds the prospect of peace disturbing was eternally vanquished by the 22nd August, 2020 peace agreement between the various communities- the Atyaps, the Hausas and the Fulanis, in the Atyap Chiefdom. The first narrative eloquently demolished by the good people of Atyap Chiefdom, is that land grab or occupation by local or foreign forces, that SOKAPU continues to shout wolf over is a blatant lie. The clincher, was the strong repudiation of violence, and the admittance that the various communities engaged in killings, another fact that SOKAPU stridently continues to deny, and more fundamentally, the acknowledgment by the Atyaps of the inherent rights of the Hausa/Fulanis to reside on Atyap land, with all the benefits, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, to the embarrassment of SOKAPU that wants them out. The 22 August 2020 Agreement in every respect equates with the Good Friday Agreement, that restored peace to Northern Ireland,if not far more significant in the sense that it liberated truth, long suffocated by the false narratives bandied over the years unchallenged by SOKAPU.The peace deal between the various communities in the Atyap Chiefdom is a strong repudiation of all that SOKAPU stands for, which is why SOKAPU and the other extremists are expected to fight back, and to celebrate to the high havens any breach of peace in Atyap Chiefdom.Clearly, the main losers in the new peaceful Southern Kaduna, a rainbow region of the Atyaps, the Hausa, the Fulanis, Jabas, the Bajjus, the Kagomas etc, are not only the irredentist SOKAPU, and their co- travelers that share their “Southern Kaduna for only indigenous people” ideology, but their Abuja and Lagos based sponsors, who had subterraneanously cashed in on the exaggerated crisis to demonize El- Rufai, who they perceive as an obstacle to their ambitions, the reason why SOKAPU, should make hay, while the sun shines, because the because the transactional relationship sooner than later will come to an end.Thankfully the march towards a peaceful new Southern Kaduna, going by the commitment to peaceful coexistence from Atyap Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area to Zipak Chiefdom in Jema’a Local Government Area, will not only deny oxygen to the well “organized opponents” of Governor Nasir El- Rufai of Kaduna State, who have used the “crisis” to throughly harass him, but will also raise the urgent question, of what next for his traducers? It will be wishful thinking or a delusion to conclude that those opposed to El-Rufai, will suddenly go to sleep, believing that would be suicide, because the 2023 stakes remains very high, and El- Rufai in spite of public pronouncements backing power shift to the South, is still considered an obstacle, a threat by the Bola Tinubu political group to the ambition of their mentor, whose presidential ambition is an open secret. The recent disinvite of El- Rufai by the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) as a speaker during its recently concluded NBA conference was financially orchestrated by forces that saw the possibility of political mischief by “demarketing” him, so as to diminish his chance in whatever way 2023 plays out.El-Rufai’s opponents are expected to creatively continue to exploit every opportunity to “deal” with their nemesis, including the campaign to deny him visa to Britain. But if only they bothered to learn from their previous futile efforts , when they sponsored the likes of Senator Shehu Sani and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi to challenge his every programme, towards creating disaffection between him and the people of Kaduna State, as they plotted his defeat for the 2019 elections, which spectacularly failed, they would have changed strategy. The problem with El-Rufai’s political opponents, is that they constantly miscalculate and underrate his political skills.Fighting for the “people” has huge material and political benefits, especially in Southern Kaduna where political belligerence is hugely rewarded and applauded. For stance, the main reason why Architect Bala Bantex was rejected by his kit and kins, was his refusal to be antagonistic to El- Rufai and why Senator Danjuma La’ah, who has bluntly refused engaging with the Kaduna State Government on matters of policy and especially security, was rewarded with an undeserved second term, that was denied a more productive Esther Nnenadi Usman, whose only crime was being married to a Muslim.Between 2015-2019 as deputy governor, Bantex only managed to “command” some respect from the zone, when he reportedly slapped El-Rufai, an incident which though never occurred, indicated the kind of tumultuous relationship that “his people” tragically expected of him, without thinking of the potential consequences, like impeachment or total sidelining in governance.Moving forward, SOKAPU, has clearly done irreparable damage to the fortunes of the region, with its message of hate and exclusion, but it can still redeem itself by jumping on the Peace train, failure to,guarantees it an ignoble place in history.Postscript: Those who called General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven Jos, overseeing peace operations in Southern Kaduna a lier and other unprintable names for telling the world, that all the communities in Southern Kaduna are involved in killings, owe him an unreserved apology with the admittance by the various communities in Atyap Chiefdom that they have all killed. -
Southern Kaduna crisis: Buhari urges residents to live in peace, harmony
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday appealed to Southern Kaduna residents to embrace peace if they truly deserve any form of development.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said “we must live together as brothers and sisters because without peace, development cannot take place.
“I wish to commend the efforts of the Kaduna State Government to establish its credentials as one of the new investment destinations of choice in Nigeria. These efforts have received just recognition in the response of the business community which has put in new investments in the state.
“This is a further affirmation of the ranking of the state as Number One for Ease of Doing Business by the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2018. I call on the Kaduna State Government to keep up these laudable efforts and surpass the impressive results already attained,’’ President Buhari said.
He noted that the success of state governments in attracting investments, creating jobs, and increasing their internally generated revenues would be critical to the development of the entire country.
“Therefore, I am impressed that the Kaduna State Government has from inception used KADInvest as a serious platform for showcasing its investment potentials. The state’s commitment to consistent implementation of the Ease of Doing Business Charter is exemplary, including its ability to increase its Internally Generated Revenue to N44bn in 2019 from N13bn in 2015 without hiking tax rates. This is very laudable.’’
The President congratulated the Kaduna State government for making KADInvest a regular fixture on the investment calendar, held annually since 2016.
“It is a fitting statement of the resilience of the Kaduna State Government that it is able to host the 2020 edition amidst the severe disruptions to the normal order caused by Covid-19. This is the sort of determined focus that can help the country to navigate the challenging consequences of the pandemic.
“It was my pleasure to commission the Olam Hatchery and Feed Mill project in 2017, about 18 months after the ground-breaking was done at the first edition of KADInvest in 2016. It is commendable that investors like Tomato Jos are creating jobs in the agribusiness sector, taking advantage of Kaduna State’s prioritisation of agriculture.
“I also note with delight the success of new investments in renewable energy like Blue Camel and tractor assembly and the revitalisation of poultry farms across the state. The ongoing development of iron mining and steel processing capacity in the state through investments by African Natural Resources and Mines Limited is especially commendable.’’
Buhari said the Federal Government will continue to support efforts to attract job-creating investments.
“We believe that much can be done at the sub-national level to drive human capital development and expand economic opportunity. I note with delight the massive investments in infrastructure upgrade Kaduna State is executing through the urban renewal programmes in Kaduna, Kafanchan, and Zaria.
“Given the track record since 2015, I have no doubt that the Kaduna State Government and its private sector partners will take full advantage of the economic windows that are being opened by Federal Government investments such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline.
“The state government should afford full cooperation and support to cross-border federal projects such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline and the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Highway,” he said.

The Southern Kaduna Crisis: The Unwavering Commitmment of the Atyaps (Katafs), Hausa/Fulanis to Peaceful Coexistence, By Danjuma Musa
By Danjuma Musa
“Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures”. John F. Kennedy
The peace deal between the hitherto warring communities of Atyab Chiefdom,is a welcome development, an unexpected early Christmas gift for every Nigerian, and a reminder of the historic peace deal between the State of Israel and Egypt, which apart from ending the over 30 years of hostility and costly war, also paved the way for the eventual restoration of peace between Israel and Jordan,as this is expected to usher in peace in the region. What makes the development in Atyap Chiefdom a huge delight, is that it was voluntarily initiated and sponsored by the Atyap Traditional Council and wholeheartedly embraced by the hitherto warring communities in the Chiefdom.
The peace deal was a huge surprise, and has for obvious reasons elicited unparalleled excitement, that would continue to reverberate across the whole world considering that merchants of war have successfully branded Southern Kaduna as a far more dangerous place than Afghanistan,a place where the various communities at the slightest provocation engaged each other in a war of attrition, that questions not only their common humanity, but diminishes them all, in spite of the support of those who conveniently use the crisis to advance their own strategic political objectives. So while the likes of Chidi Odinkalu and Femi Fani Kayode profit immensely from the crisis, the people of Southern kaduna are left with the rough end of the stick- withdrawal of investors and notoriety.
The Atyaps, the Hausas and Fulanis by willingly brokering the August 22,2020 peace deal themselves, what they have appropriately tagged “home grown” solution to the problem of the Chiefdom, have not only showed the road map to peace, but have eloquently confirmed the unequivocal position of the Nasir El- Rufai administration that the ultimate guarantee of peace is the willingness of communities to live in peace and harmony, and resolve to settle all differences by strictly lawful means, without resort to violence. The peace deal is also a strong repudiation of the settler/indigene dichotomy, a fundamental issue in the Southern Kaduna crisis, which also resonates with the Citizenship policy of the El-Rufai administration.
The alarming cynicism, the obvious wish that the peace deal should not work by a minute section of the media, which hasn’t masked its disgust, their wait and see attitude, their diabolical wish that the warring communities remain perpetually at war is perplexing and clearly confirms that merchants of war and other parasites found the Southern Kaduna crisis convenient for settling scores with Nasir El-Rufai,their nemesis, who as the Director-General Bureau for Public Enterprises, privatized many government companies, and has remained the enemy of those that lost out, due to technical reasons, lack of financial capacity and management capacity, continue to hold him responsible for their loss. Had El- Rufai succumbed to the pressure of “asset strippers”, that definitely would have derailed the objectives of the privatization programmme , but El- Rufai most certainly would have saved himself from the heavy baggage he is carrying today, because he choose to serve with distinction at the BPE and as minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The tragedy is that the people of Southern Kaduna have bluntly refused to read in between the lines,to understand that they are mere pawns in a sophisticated political chessboard and that they are the ultimate losers,by allowing themselves to be pawns in some other peoples’ game, that they are mere spectators. Like in a chess game, the pawns(Southern Kaduna) can either destroy itself or save the King, in this case all those who are using them to further their political objectives.
SOKAPU, it must be stated can never midwife peace in Southern Kaduna, because it’s opposed to what the Atyap people have conceded; the right of every Nigerian to reside anyway and pursue their legitimate business, that they have killed other tribes, just as the other tribes have killed them and because SOKAPU lacks the legitimacy and confidence of the other parties in the crisis. The reaction of SOKAPU to the development in Atyap Chiefdom was a monotonous diatribe of Southern Kaduna belonging to only indigenous people, and referring to others as settlers.
The roadmap by the Atyap Chiefdom, that takes ownership and responsibility for peaceful coexistence is definitely the way to go, as opposed to the irredentist and “usurpry” position of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) that has no control over any Emirate or Chiefdom, but insists that any peace deal must be midwifed by it.
Key requirements for sustainable peace, like the Atyaps and the other communities have clearly shown, includes the fact that it must be built from within, a bottom-up approach, because it enables the people take responsibility for peace and harmony, exactly what the state government has consistently advocated. They have confirmed the position of Governor El-Rufai “that beyond boots on the ground, military bases and police stations, the ultimate guarantee of peace is the willingness of communities to live in harmony and their resolve to settle differences through lawful means”.
For obvious reasons the various communities in Atyap Chiefdom won’t be popular and would be hated by their kit and kins, for owning up to several truths; that they have all been involved in killing, maiming, burning of houses, blocking of highways etc, a narrative that SOKAPU has stridently been denying, and which most unfortunately has been bought hook, line and sinker by Southerners who ironically refuse to acknowledge the massive banditry attacks in the Northern part of the state, probably because the victims are Muslims or lesser human beings. This without doubt will remain a blunt on the humanity of those that have continued to close their eyes to the human tragedy in one part, while falsely describing another as genocide.
Slowly, but surly El-Rufai will be vindicated – there will be a triumph of truth, over the false narrative. There will be an acknowledgement that he gave the age long crisis his all. That he facilitated the establishment of military and police bases in the south. That all he sought to achieve was to replace violent strifes with harmony and to give vent to the constitutional provisions that he swore to enforce.
It is inconceivable that the Atyap peace deal won’t be subjected to some stress, but the saving grace is the resolve and commitment to a new Atyap Chiefdom, that is welcoming, that does not discriminate between native born and others who decided to make the Chiefdom their home. And most importantly the commitment, that never again will two fighting for whatever reason lead to communal strife that usually engulfs the entire Chiefdom.

Southern Kaduna crisis: El-Rufai inaugurates religious leaders’ forum
Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday inaugurated a forum for religious leaders as a way of promoting religions harmony and peaceful co-existence in the state.
El-Rufai said during the inauguration that the forum would provide a platform to preach messages capable of assisting people to imbibe the highest ideals of Christianity and Islam.
He said it had become crucial to deepen religious harmony and peaceful co-existence among different religions in the state.
“It will provide the platform for religious leaders to dialogue, interact and assume collective responsibility for messages that assist people imbibe the highest ideals of the two major religions.
“In spite of our enthusiasm for religion, there has been a legacy of communal and ethno-religious conflicts in the state for a long time.
“This situation betrays the absence of respect for the rule of law and adherence to the common values of our two dominant religions such as peace, compassion and fairness,” he said.
According to him, the forum is a reflection of the state government’s belief in religion as a unifying force and promoter of peace.
“We believe that the diversity of faith can be a vehicle for unity when we respect the rights and liberties of other humans as creatures of God,” he said.
El-Rufai expressed the government’s expectation that religious leaders would contribute meaningfully to the enthronement of peace and harmony in the state.
The governor commended the religious leaders for accepting to serve in the forum, and urged them to undertake their duties with utmost commitment.
He assured that the government fully embraced and support the initiative, spearheaded by the Kaduna State Peace Commission.
Most Revd. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, Chairman, Kaduna State Peace Commission, and the Executive Vice-Chairman, Priscilla Ankut, explained that the House of Kaduna Family was part of the commission’s initiative to achieve peaceful coexistence in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the House of Kaduna Family include Archbishop Ali Buba, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi, Bishop Timothy Yahaya, Rev. Moses Audi, Sheikh Abdulkarim Hashim, Malam Aminu Alkasim, Sheikh Idris Sabongari and Ishaya Adamu Jangado.
Others are, Archbishop Matthew Man’o’so, Bishop Julius Kundi, Malam Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, Sheikh Hamza Lawal, Dr Tukur Almannar, Rev. Barnabas Dodo, Archbishop Sunday Oga-Dodo and Dr Mohammed Suleiman.

Southern Kaduna crisis: Atyap, Hausa-Fulani communities embrace peace
The Atyap, Fulani and Hausa communities in Zangon-Kataf Local Government Area held a successful reconciliation summit for peaceful coexistence in the area.
Participants at the summit, who committed to peace and forgiveness of each other, condemned the killings and destruction that have occurred.
They declared their readiness to help security agencies with information to arrest and prosecute criminal elements.
The summit appreciated the government for deploying security forces and commended youths from the various communities for their symbolic embrace and agreement not to mount roadblocks anywhere in the chiefdom.
The meeting, which was held under the traditional ruler, Agwatyap, Dominic Gambo Yahaya, brought together the three communities in a peace summit held at the Mariyamu and Yakubu Event Centre in Ungwan Wakili.
The summit, co-chaired by AVM Stephen Shekari (rtd) and Dr. Salim Umar, represented the Atyap Chiefdom’s attempt to bring its communities together and stop the bloodshed and destruction of property.
The communique issued after the meeting was signed by representatives of the Atyap, Fulani and Hausa communities, the co-chairs and His Highness, the Agwatyap.
In a 14-point resolution, the summit called on all residents of Atyap Chiefdom not to take laws into their hands and instead submit all grievances to the lawful authorities.
The meeting “appreciated the fact that all Nigerians have constitutional or fundamental right to move and reside anywhere in Nigeria, including Atyap Chiefdom, without any fear, molestation or harassment from anybody or any source whatsoever.”
The summit however called on the authorities to facilitate the return of displaced persons.
It further “recommended the establishment of a standing peace committee that should comprise of Hausa, Fulani and Atyap and their youths to organise robust engagement/dialogue on security issues from time to time with a view to sustaining peaceful coexistence.”
The resolve for peace by the communities comes hours after the Kaduna State Government reduced curfew hours in Zangon Kataf and Kauru LGAs, citing serious efforts at rapprochement between the conflict communities.

El-Rufai breaks silence, gives three indicting reasons for persistent Southern Kaduna killings
Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir Elrufai said communal crises persist in the Christian dominated southern part of the state because criminal activities are given ethnic and religious colouration.
El-rufai stated this at a state-wide media chat on Thursday night in Kaduna.
According to the governor, insecurity in the state is being perpetrated by criminal elements who have been killing, kidnapping people and rustling cattle in the entire North-west region. “….Activities of the bandits were being coated as ethnic and religious when they occur in the southern part of the state….this tends to exacerbate communal tensions and pitch people who have lived peacefully together against each other.”
“Attacks by bandits are not localised to any part of the state.” El-rufai said.
He added that the state government had taken steps to secure the southern part of the state, including ensuring that a military base and two mobile police squadrons were located there, answering a decades-long demand for enhanced security presence in the area.
To buttress his point the governor insist that the attackers do only attack Christians alone. “These criminals attack people irrespective of their religion or ethnicity and they have been perpetrating their reign of terror in Giwa, Birnin Gwari and parts of Igabi local government.’’
According to him, the bandits operate mostly in Katsina, Zamfara and Niger states where he noted that their attacks are often seen and reported as criminal activities.
The governor said when bandits attack in southern Kaduna, security reports show that youth from the affected communities often responded by mobilising to attack Fulani communities in their area whose members share the same ethnicity with the presumed bandits, even though many Fulani communities are also victims of the bandits in Kaduna State and elsewhere.
He said the problem is worsened by the response of Fulani communities who often resort to self-help when they are attacked instead of reporting to the traditional authorities and security agencies. “This is how the cycle of attacks, revenge and reprisals occur in southern Kaduna,’’ he said.
The governor, who expressed his sadness at the killings, said the community leaders need to emphasise adherence to the rule of law, to avoid the persistence of attacks and reprisals.
He explained why the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in Zangon Kataf and Kauru local government areas on June 11.
He said it followed the discovery in Zangon Kataf of the corpse of a man from Kauru who was resident in Zangon Kataf. He said subsequently, some youth barricaded roads and burnt a vehicle with its occupants and that security agencies had to use force to disperse them from the highway.

Army fingers retired security officers in Southern Kaduna crisis
Commander of the Military Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Augustine Agundu has asked farmers and herders in southern part of Kaduna State to surrender illegal weapons in their possession or risk being arrested.
He also alleged some retired security officers of southern Kaduna extraction were responsible for promotion of violence in the area but assured they will soon be nabbed. The Commander, who stated these in Kafanchan on Monday during Kaduna State government and Defence Headquarters’ Operation Safe Haven’s meeting with stakeholders in southern Kaduna, said the farmers and herders must stop their old practice of taking laws into their hands.
Maj. Gen. Agundu, who spoke passionately on why Kaduna people must live in peace with one another, urged residents to identify and report criminal elements in their communities to security agencies for prompt action.
According to him: “Farmers and herders carrying illegal fire arms must surrender them to the nearest security post to avoid arrest.
“Farmers and herders must always report any grievances to security especially the military rather than taking laws into their own hands. This will not be tolerated.
“As farmer you don’t need to kill another person who destroys your farmland because we cannot buy life. We must stop stealing cows. I also advise the herdsmen to stop using children to rear cows and night rearing. Let us isolate the bad ones, the criminals that cut across all the tribes. We must be tolerant of each other and grow understanding.” He urged. The Commander, who earlier visited the Chief of Kagoro and Emir of Jama’a at their respective palaces, called for tolerance among residents and warned trouble makers to leave Southern Kaduna or face the full wrath of the law.
He said: “What we want from you is to identify the bad ones living in your communities and report to us the security for prompt action for peace to reign. No problem without solution, we must hold our communities together to live in peace.
“Let’s appeal to our conscience, people who are giving us problem are only few. The land that belongs to all of us is the six feet’s grave, at the end of day nobody owns any land.
“The people who are fueling crisis are not from here, they are in cities. We must say no to violence. When people want to cause crisis, they sow the seed of discord among people.
“There are serving and retired security officers in this state and many are the ones promoting violence. We will get you, it is just a matter of time.
“I am appealing to you all, to give us useful information to pick up the few bad ones living among us for peace. Our men are ready to bring peace.” He said.
Speaking with the traditional rulers, the Commander said: “We have the responsibility to always tell truth to the people. The few individuals are the ones propagating hatred to cause havoc in our communities today. Enough of trouble, some people are keeping fire arms especially in Plateau state and that is what we are doing now in Plateau by moping the illegal fire arms”
“My appeal to you traditional rulers is to isolate the bad ones, the enemies are living within us, identify them to foster peace in Southern Kaduna. If we keep the bad ones among us, peace will delay. Some trouble makers are in cities, they only come and instigate problem. We must go back to old days where we all lived in peace with one another. Let’s respect each other,” Gen. Agundu said.

Senate rejects report on Southern Kaduna crisis
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday rejected the report by its adhoc committee on the Southern Kaduna crisis.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Senate turned down the report for “lack of depth”.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Senate had in January set up an adhoc committee to investigate the causes of the crisis which killed hundreds of people and displaced millions in Southern Kaduna.
The Senate had condemned the incident that led to the death of many, and the destruction of 53 villages; injuring of 57 people, where farm produce worth about N5.5 billion destroyed and 1,422 houses and 16 churches allegedly razed by herdsmen.
The Senate set up the committee following a motion sponsored by Senator Danjuma La’ah (PDP, Kaduna South).
In his presentation, Senator La’ah said: “The Senate notes that since 2011, various communities in Southern Kaduna senatorial district of Kaduna State have been consistently attacked by herdsmen, resulting in deaths, injuries, loss of property and displacement of the communities.”
According to him, since December 23, 2016, communities of Ambam, Gaska, Dangoma, Tsonje, Pasankori, Gidan Waya and Farin Gada of Iama’a and Kaura councils have been under attack by the herdsmen.
“In the last one year, we have witnessed a harvest of killings by these marauding herdsmen with several cases of massacre in Agatu, Benue State; Uzo Uwani, Enugu State, with several attacks in Taraba, Delta and Edo states, to mention a few.”
Following a recommendation by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, that the motion should not be debated so as to avoid bad blood, additional contributions were not accommodated.
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said: “We condemn in totality the depravity being exhibited on the streets of Kafanchan.
“This Senate will not pay lip service to it, neither will it sit idly by and watch innocent Nigerians being slaughtered on the basis of their religion, ethnic group or political persuasion.”

DSS arrests Audu Maikori over comments on Southern Kaduna crisis
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have reportedly picked up Chocolate City founder, Audu Maikori over alleged inciting comments on Southern Kaduna crisis.
According to a report by Daily Post, Maikori’s personal assistant, Edward Ayide refused to comment on the matter.
“I can’t comment,” he simply said.
When pressed further, Ayide seemed to imply his channels of communications were being monitored.
“I can’t even send you a message. If you have noticed, I haven’t even been regular on my social media pages. I’m sorry, I can’t make any comments”.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that two weeks ago, Maikori apologized to the College of Education in Gidan-Waya, Kaduna and the Kaduna State Government, for sending out false information about an attack on the school.
Maikori at the time claimed that six students of the school were killed by Fulani herdsmen, including his driver’s younger brother.
The College of Education released a statement denying the incident and Maikori faced a lot of backlash on social media, with many saying he posted fake pictures.
He published a retraction on his Facebook page and claimed his driver, a certain Simon Joseph, misled him.

I am not sponsoring Southern Kaduna crisis – El-Rufai
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said as alleged in some quarters, he is not a religious bigot and not behind the sponsorship of the crisis currently engulfing Southern Kaduna.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that El-Rufai spoke on Tuesday when he received a six-member senate Adhoc Committee led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, who had come to assess the situation in the state.
El-Rufai said the crisis in happening in Southern Kaduna had being lingering for about 35years but gave assurances that his administration was making frantic efforts to ensure all the perpetrators are arrested and punished according to law.
In his words: “I am the governor of Kaduna state, if you break the law you will be punished.
“The entire Kaduna city has been divided and there is need to regain the confidence and come together.
“I am not an ethnic jingoist or a religious bigot so those who alleged that I am sponsoring Southern Kaduna crisis are just mischievous, no governor wants crisis in his state,” El.Rufai said.
Speaking on their mission in the state, Gaya accused politicians of using the crisis for political gain.
The lawmaker disclosed that the committee was set up to investigate the causes of the frequent attacks.
“Part of the mission of the Adhoc committee are to interact , discuss with government , stakeholders, community leaders, security agencies and other relevant bodies that will contribute to bringing lasting peace,” he said.
