    Bayelsa: Diri gets Assembly’s nod to appoint more special advisers

    Bayelsa House of Assembly has given approval to Gov. Douye Diri’s request to appoint additional 12 Special Advisers.

    The House, which resumed from recess on Wednesday, received three correspondences from the Executive, including the governor’s request for an approval to appoint 12 Special Advisers.

    The governor also requested for an approval of Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper as well as the screening and confirmation of two commissioner-nominees for the State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC).

    The protem Leader of the house, Wisdom Fafi, moved a motion for an approval for the governor to appoint more special advisers

    The motion was seconded by Tare Pori.

    The House, however, deferred the screening and confirmation of BYSIEC nominees and consideration of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper to the next legislative sitting.

    Just In: US President, Joe Biden appoints two Nigerians as Special Advisers

    President Joe Biden of the United States has appointed two professionals of Nigerian descent as special advisers. Osagie Imasogie and Chineye Ogwumike were among the 12 members appointed to serve on the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

    The announcement of these appointments was made in a statement issued by the State House on a Wednesday. The council’s members, including Silvester Scott Beaman, who will assume the role of council chair, Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, Patrick Hubert Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, Ham K. Serunjogi, and Kevin Young, will serve during the term of 2023-2025.

    The establishment of this council aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue between U.S. officials and the African Diaspora. The statement highlights that the council’s members come from diverse backgrounds, including government, sports, creative industries, business, academia, social work, and faith-based activities.

    These members are expected to provide valuable guidance to strengthen the cultural, social, political, and economic connections between the United States and Africa. Additionally, their role will involve promoting trade, investment, and educational exchanges between the United States and Africa, as articulated in the statement.

    Lagos gov, Sanwo-Olu redeploys 2 special advisers

    Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Friday redeployed two newly-appointed Special Advisers.

    The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola said in a statement that the redeployment was announced during the 2023 on-boarding retreat programme for the newly-sworn in members of Lagos State Executive Council (SEC) and body of Permanent Secretaries.

    The retreat took place at Epe with the theme:  ”Navigating Government Excellence: Role of Leadership in Ensuring A Greater Lagos Rises”.

    Muri-Okunola said that the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya from the Ministry of health, had been redeployed to the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    He said that Gov. Sanwo-Olu also redeployed Mr Abiola Olowu from the ministry of commerce, cooperatives, trade, and investment to Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as Special Adviser, Office of Mineral Resources.

    According to him, the changes took immediate effect.

    He also said that the Special Adviser,  Works, would work under the Office of Lagos State Deputy Governor.

    Recall that Gov. Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday swore in 37 commissioners and special advisers as members of the SEC and assigned portfolios to them.

    The cabinet members comprise 23 commissioners and 14 special advisers.

    The commissioners included Mr Lawal Pedro, SAN (Justice and Attorney-General); Mrs Bolaji Dada (Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation); Prof. Akin Abayomi (Health); Mr Tokunbo Wahab (Environment and Water Resources), and Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai (Housing).

    Also, Mr Gbenga Omotoso (Information and Strategy); Mr Ibrahim Layode (Home Affairs); Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende (Youths and Social Development); Mr Dayo Alebiosu-Bush (Waterfront Infrastructure Development), Abisola Olusanya (Agriculture), and Mr Gbenga Oyerinde (Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations).

    The others include Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka (Tourism, Arts and Culture); Mr Osiyemi Oluwaseun (Transportation); Mr Tunbosun Alake (Innovation, Science and Technology); Mr Afolabi Ayantayo (Establishment and Training); Mr Kayode Roberts (Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development), and Mr Mosopefoluwa George (Economic Planning and Budget).

    The others are Mr Olumide Oluyinka (Physical Planning and Urban Development); Mr Abayomi Oluyomi (Finance); Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medem (Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment); Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun (Basic and Secondary Education); Mr Akinyeri Ajigbotafe (Wealth Creation and Employment), and Mr Tolani Akibu (Tertiary Education).

    The special advisers include Mr Sola Giwa (Transportation); Mr Rotimi Fashola (Agriculture); Mr Abiola Olowu (Commerce, Industry and Investment); Mr Olajide Babatunde (eGIS and Urban Development); Mr Idris Aregbe (Tourism, Arts and Culture), and Mr AbdulKabir Opeyemi Ogungbo (Taxation and Revenue).

    The others are Bola Olumegbon (Central Business Districts); Mr Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu (Environment); Mr Afolabi Tajudeen (Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement); Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare (Housing); Mr Yekini Agbaje (Rural Development), and Iyabode Ayoola (Internal Audit).

    BREAKING: President gives Nuhu Ribadu appointment

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as Special Adviser on Security.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports this is contained in a statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Director of Information, State House.

    The statement also contains the names of seven (7) other appointments approved by President Tinubu.

    The newly appointed special advisers and their portfolios are:

    1. Mr. Dele Alake – Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications and Strategy
    2. Mr. Yau Darazo – Special Adviser, Political and Intergovernmental Affairs
    3. Mr. Wale Edun – Special Adviser, Monetary Policies
    4. Mrs. Olu Verheijen – Special Adviser, Energy
    5. Mr. Zachaeus Adedeji – Special Adviser, Revenue
    6. Mr. Nuhu Ribadu – Special Adviser, Security

    President Tinubu appoints 8 Special Advisers

    President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of eight new Special Advisers.

    This is contained in a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information, State House on Thursday in Abuja.

    Oladunjoye said that the appointments are with immediate effect.

    He said that Mr Dele Alake is the Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications and Strategy and Mr Yau Darazo is the Special Adviser,
    Political and Intergovernmental Affairs.

    Mr Wale Edun is the Special Adviser, Monetary Policies, while Mrs Olu Verheijen becomes the Special Adviser, Energy.

    Oladunjoye said that Mr Zachaeus Adedeji is now the Special Adviser, Revenue and Mr Nuhu Ribadu becomes the Special Adviser, Security.

    He added that Mr John Uwajumogu is the Special Adviser, Industry, Trade and Investment, while Dr Salma Anas is the Special Adviser, Health.

    This is the second appointment of aides by Tinubu since he assumed office on May 29.

    The first was that of Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chief of Staff, Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff.

    Senate approves appointment of Tinubu’s special advisers

    The Senate on Tuesday approved President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of 20 Special Advisers.

    This came after the President’s letter to the Upper Chamber requesting approval.

    He made the request in a letter to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan which was read during plenary on Tuesday.

    The letter titled “Appointment of Special Advisers” reads:

    “In accordance with the Provisions of Section 151 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, which confers on the President the powers to appoint special advisers to assist him in the performance of his functions,

    “I write to request the kind consideration of the Senate to appoint 20 special advisers while hoping that the request will receive expeditious consideration of the Senate.”

    Gov. Oyebanji appoints 8 Special Advisers

    Gov. Biodun Oyebanji has approved the appointment of eight Special Advisers.

    Mr Yinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, announced this in a statement in Ado-Ekiti.

    He said the appointments were made to give the new administration the desired solid foundation, and move the state forward.

    He explained that the new Special Advisers were of cabinet rank.

    Oyebode gave the names of the new appointees as Mr Niyi Adebayo, (Budget, Economic Planning and Performance Management), Mrs Tayo Adeola (Investment, Trade and industry).

    They also include Ebenezer Boluwade (Agriculture and Food Security) and Dr Kofoworola Aderiye ( Education, Science and Technology).

    Others are Chief Jide Awe (Political and Inter-Party Affairs), Mr Tope Ogunleye (Bureau of Special Project), Mr Seun Fakuade (Governance, Reforms and Innovation) and Mr Yinka Oyebode (Media and Strategy/ Chief Press Secretary).

    Oyebode said the governor urged the appointees to see their appointments as an opportunity to contribute their time, talent and expertise to the overall development of the state.

    He said they would be sworn-in on Friday.

    Oyebode also disclosed that Gen Ebenezer Ogundana had been re-appointed as Security Adviser to the Governor, with immediate effect.

    BREAKING: Gov. Matawalle fires all his Special Advisers

    Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, has relieved all his Special Advisers of their appointment.

    This is contained in a statement by the acting Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe in Gusau.

    Balarabe, however, said the Special Adviser on Security, retired DIG Mamman Tsafe was not affected by the development.

    “It is hereby notified for general information that Gov. Bello Matawalle, has relieved all Special Advisers of their appointments, except the Special Adviser on Security matters.

    “This decision is in line with the recent defection to the APC and to allow for an in-depth search of more but competent hands in the administration of the state, irrespective of political affiliations,” he said.

    Balarabe directed all the affected Special Advisers to hand over affairs of their respective offices, and government property under them to their Directors General and/or Accounting officers.

    He also extended the governor’s appreciation to them for their contributions towards the development of the state.

    The Governor had in February, sacked all Commissioners, Special Advisers and Directors-General, but re-appointed some of them in April.

    On June 29, he formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), after several months of speculations.

    BREAKING: Okowa appoints more special advisers

    Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has approved the appointment of two more special advisers.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the two special advisers are Hon. Pascal Adigwe and Hon. Samuel Mariere.

    Secretary to the Delta State Government, Patrick Ukah made this known in a statement on Sunday.

    The statement reads: :It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Deltans, that His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has approved the appointment of the following persons as Special Advisers: (i) Hon. Pascal Adigwe and (ii) Hon. Samuel Mariere.

    “Their swearing in comes up on Monday, 28th June, 2021, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba at 10 am”.

    BREAKING: Gov Okowa recycles old war horses as he appoints more special advisers

    Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa seems to be recycling old political war horses as he begins to re-constitute his cabinet.

    Governor Okowa had earlier appointed 9 advisers, including Dr Kingsley Emu as Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Omimi Esquire and Hon. Chief Isaac Anwuzia as political advisers.

    To join them in the fray, Okowa appointed Dr Austin Obidi, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, Hon. Sunny A. Emeyese, Senior Apostle Sylvanus Okorote and Hon. Ebikeme Clark as special advisers.

    According to a statement by Patrick Ukah, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in announcing the appointments, “the date for the inauguration of the appointees will be announced in due course”.

    Recall that Okowa recently appointed Ukah as new SSG and also appointed a former SSG, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas as his new Chief of Staff.

    He had also appointed Hon. Kelly Penawou, Chief Andy Asawota (Esq.) and Chief Mrs. Mary lyasere as special advisers.

    Other special advisers Okowa had earlier appointed included Chief Edwin Uzor, Chief Godwin Ogadi and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro.
