    Fubara plotting to procure orders to declare Rivers Assembly illegitimate – APC

    Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has accused the governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara of plotting to procure interim orders from some judges to declare the Martins Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly as illegitimate.

    Tony Okocha ,the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC in Rivers State made the accusations public on Thursday during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.

    Okocha refused to mention the names of the supposed  judges but promised to release their names by the time he files a petition to the Nigeria Judicial Council, NJC concerning the matter.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Fubara dares to surprise anyone in the state who has got plans to distract him as he governs the state in line with the political solution as agreed with President Bola Tinubu few months ago in Abuja.

    Autonomy: PASAN officials seal Zamfara assembly complex

    The Zamfara chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) hai sealed the state House of Assembly complex in compliance with the ongoing nationwide strike by the state assemblies over non implementation of financial autonomy for legislature.

    In Zamfara, the assembly workers stormed the main entrance of the complex and denied legislators entry to the house.

    Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the state PASAN Chairman, Mr Kabiru Dauran, said the action was a total compliance to the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike by the state assemblies.

    “You know, this followed the expiration of the 28 days ultimatum given to the government by the association to implement financial autonomy for the legislature.

    “Our autonomy is according to section 121-(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

    “We are fighting for our rights, therefore, like other states in the country, there will be no legislative activities here in Zamfara,” Dauran explained.

    According to Dauran, the assembly will remain sealed until the matter is resolved or any further directives from the national body of the union.

    The Ondo State House of Assembly has explained that the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disregarded the impeachment notice he was served in response to allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him.

    Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Assembly, emphasized that the notice served on Aiyedatiwa was received by his Chief Protocol Officer.

    Oladiji noted that the action was undertaken in accordance with Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, which stipulates the necessary procedures for such matters.

    He further explained that despite making concerted efforts to deliver the notice to the deputy governor, he was unavailable for service.

    He further added that the Assembly had to resort to legal measures, seeking a court order for substituted service on the deputy governor.

    “On the 25th of September, a substituted service of the notice of allegations was made to the deputy governor, duly signed by more than one-third of the Honourable Members of the House as required by the Constitution in Section 188 Sub-section 2,” he said.

    According to him, the Constitution stipulates that the Assembly should wait for seven days for the embattled deputy governor to respond, which has lapsed.

    Meanwhile, the state Assembly has told the Chief Judge of the State to constitute a panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Aiyedatiwa.

    Gov. Adeleke submits list of commissioners nominees to state assembly

    Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has submitted list of commissioners and special advisers nominees to the state House of Assembly after eight months in office.

    A statement by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to the governor on Tuesday in Osogbo, said that the list of the nominees would be read at the plenary session of the assembly when it resumes from its recess next week.

    “His Excellency has finalised the commissioners nominees list and submitted same to the assembly.

    ”The House is resuming next week and expectedly, the speaker will disclose the names of the nominees to his colleagues and screening will commence.

    “The governor and the state leadership had done the needful and the public should expect the list to be made public sooner than later.

    “The delay was clearly due to many factors, among which are the protracted litigation on the outcome of the governorship election and the general elections.

    “The good thing is that the long wait is over and the long-awaited list of commissioner nominees is here,” he said.

    Gov Bala Mohammed signs bill to establish Bauchi State Vigilante into law

    Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State signed into law a bill for the establishment of the Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment scheme and other related purposes in 2022.

    He signed the bill along with 11 other bills into Law passed by the State House of Assembly into Law on Friday.

    The governor explained that the objective of the bill was to explore opportunities in job creation and provide training for youths in skills acquisition that would enable them to be gainfully employed and self-reliant.

    Others included a bill on the establishment of Bauchi State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme and other related matters 2022; a Bill to repeal the Bauchi state Urban Planning and Development Board 2012 and enactment of the Bauchi State Physical Planning and Development Control Board 2022.

    According to the governor, other bills signed into law included a bill to repeal the Bauchi State College of Agriculture 2013 and enact a law to establish divisions of agricultural colleges in Bauchi State University and for related matters 2022; a bill to provide for the establishment of Bauchi Infrastructure development and maintenance agency 2022.

    He also said there was a bill to repeal the Bauchi State separation of account judiciary law; a bill to provide Bauchi state tourism development corporation, a bill to repeal the Bauchi state university establishment law 2010 and enact a law to establish Sa’adu Zungur University 2022 and a bill to establish the Bauchi state security Trust fund and other related purposes 2022.

    “Other bills to be signed into law are a bill to establish Bauchi State Environmental Trust Fund 2022 and a Bill to repeal the Bauchi State House Management Law 2017 and enact a law to provide for the management of funds accrued to the Bauchi State House of Assembly from the consolidated revenue funds of the state, among others.

    The governor, however, commended the state House of Assembly for studying the details of the bills before passing them for assent, pointing out that this showed the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive arm of government.

    Earlier, the Speaker of the Assembly, Suleiman Abubakar, said all the laws, if properly implemented, would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state as well as protect their lives and properties.

    He called on the people to continue to support the present administration, adding that the infrastructure and other development recorded in the state were the product of cordial relationship and mutual cooperation between the legislature and the executive arm of government.

    Nasarawa Assembly Minority Leader defects to APC

    Mr Peter Mbucho, (PDP-Akwanga North), the Minority Leader, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state.

    Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, disclosed this on Monday while reading Mbucho’s defection letter during the House proceeding in Lafia.

    The speaker congratulated Mbucho for joining the next level train and commended him for his progressive decision.

    Mbucho said that he had joined APC to contribute his quota to the development of his constituency, the state and the country at large.

    “I joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 8, and I have delivered my constituency to APC during the Governorship and state House of Assembly election,” he said.

    The former minority leader said that he would continue to use his wealth of experience to add value to the APC-led government at all levels.

    NAN reports that the House also received nomination of members of the Nasarawa State Independent National Electoral Commission (NASIEC) and Nasarawa State Local Government Civil Service Commission from Gov.Tanko Al-Makura.

    The speaker announced the names as Mr Usman Ibrahim-Galle, Abubakar Yerima and Ayuba Usman-Wandai as members of NASIEC

    Abdullahi Umar and Mustapha Aliyu are for the State Local Government Civil Service Commission.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi has directed Clerk to the House to communicate to the affected nominees to submit their CV on or before March 22 and to come for their screening on March 25.

    2019: INEC to release final list of Governorship, State Assembly candidates Thursday

    The final list of candidates for Governorship, State Assembly and FCT Area Council elections will be published on Thursday, the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) has said.

    Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the list will be published in all the State offices nationwide and the Commission’s website.

    Yakubu spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the Swearing -in of a new Resident Electoral Commission (REC) Elder Monday Udo Tom from Akwa Ibom State.

    This brings the total number of RECs nationwide to 36 out of 37 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    The Commission is awaiting the confirmation and appointment of the nominee for Osun State.

    He also revealed the commission has implemented ten out of the fourteen activities outlined in the commission’s scheduled programs of actives.

    Your appointment is coming just 16 days to the 2019 General Elections. We have already implemented 10 out of the 14 activities in our timetable and schedule of activities.

    The final list of candidates for Governorship, State Assembly and FCT Area Council elections will be published in all our State offices nationwide and the Commission’s website, tomorrow Thursday 31st January 2019.”

    Congratulating the new REC, Yakubu informed him that though he will be posted to a state within his geo-political zone, he can however be posted anywhere in the country.

    He said: “Furthermore, as a REC, you can be posted to any part of the country at any time as the exigencies of service require. For now, you will be posted to a State within your geo-political zone but you will never serve in you State of origin throughout your tenure. In line with this principle, you are hereby deployed to Bayelsa State.”

    The new REC holds a BSc. degree in Biological Science and a Master’s degree in Microbiology.

    He served as lecturer and civil servant in Akwa Ibom State.

  • 2019: INEC announces dates for conduct of Governorship, State Assembly elections

    Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has said that the Area Council elections in FCT will hold on March 2, 2019, along with the governorship and state Assembly elections.

    He also disclosed that the list of candidates for elections will be published in its Federal Capital Territory office and also at the six Area Councils on Wednesday, 21st November, 2018 (today).

    Yakubu disclosed this during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the Commission’s Conference Room, INEC Headquarters, Abuja, on Wednesday.

    He appealed to citizens to check the personal details of the chairmanship and councilorship candidates that seek to represent them.

    He noted that the Area Council elections in FCT will hold on March 2, 2019, along with the governorship and state Assembly elections,” INEC says.

    Party primaries for the Area Council elections ended on 27th October 2018, INEC noted.

  • Insecurity: Saraki seeks collaboration of 36 States Assembly on State, Community Policing

    President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called for collaboration of the 36 States’ Assembly in the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to provide for State and Community Policing in the country.

    Saraki spoke when the 36 States Assembly Speakers, led by its Chairman and Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulmumin Ismaila Kamba, paid a thank you visit to leadership of the Senate, for passing the Bill which granted financial autonomy to State Legislatures.

    The President of the Senate, according to a statement by his Special Assistant on Print Media, Chuks Okocha, stated that State and Community Policing in the country has become imperative due to rising security challenges.

    Saraki said: “You are all aware of the challenges we are currently facing in this country, particularly that of insecurity. There is no doubt that the security architecture of this country presently cannot meet the demands and challenges before it.

    “One of the decisions we took today is to address the issue of State and Community Policing. In doing that, we gave our Constitution Amendment Committee two weeks to bring to the floor a Bill on State and Community Policing. The House of Representatives is also working along similar lines.

    “We will send it to the States’ Assembly to seek your support. We believe that no responsible country or society can continue to watch helplessly as our people are being killed.

    “We must appeal to our people that we must live in peace and harmony and we must be able to resolve our issues peacefully. As Speakers, I urge you to play your part,” he stated.

    Earlier, the Chairman of the States’ Assembly Speakers Conference, Hon. Kamba, said that they were at the National Assembly to thank the leadership of the Senate for passing the State Assembly Financial Autonomy bill which has been signed into law.
