  • Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs placed on suicide watch

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs placed on suicide watch

American rapper and business mogul, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has reportedly been placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial.

The 54-year-old star was arrested at a hotel in New York earlier this week, and he has been charged with s3x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in pr∅stitution.

He has been remanded to Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center after pleading not guilty, and he has twice been denied bail.

According to PEOPLE, Combs is on suicide watch, with sources describing the move as a preventative measure as he is in shock with his mental state unclear.

The U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections describes suicide watch as ‘supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation’.

Combs’ lawyers had argued he should be spared jail while he awaits trial and suggested a $50 million bond with electronic monitoring, weekly drug tests, a visitor log, the surrender of his passport, and no contact with women.

He was initially denied bail on Tuesday after pleading not guilty, and on Wednesday he was denied bail again.

The Judge explained that he was concerned that Combs’ release on bail could affect the case.

‘My bigger concern deals with the danger of obstruction of justice and the danger of witness tampering,’ Judge Andrew Carter said. ‘That is a real concern that I have here.’

During the arraignment on Tuesday afternoon, his lawyer Marc Agnifilo reportedly revealed Combs is in ‘treatment and therapy for things that more respectfully he needs treatment and therapy for and he’s getting that’.

Agnifilo didn’t go into any more detail or confirm what treatment Combs is receiving, as he cited confidentiality.

US Magistrate Judge Robyn F Tarnofsky read through the allegations before asking him if he wished to enter a plea, to which he simply replied: ‘Not guilty.’

If found guilty, the mandatory minimum sentence Combs could face for the charges is 15 years, with a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Dinal De Alwis, a 16-year-old Sinhalese student, has ended his life after allegedly being blackmailed with his private photos by yahoo boys from Nigeria.

Alwis had just started sixth form when he was contacted by someone on social media app Snapchat, apparently from Nigeria.

Dinal was sent two photos of himself and told they would be sent to “all his online followers” unless he paid £100, the hearing was told.

The student left his family home, near Croydon, south London, and recorded a brief video saying he planned to end it all.

According to his dad, Kaushallya De Alwis, “He messaged my wife and I to say he loved us, and he told his two brothers that he loves them, and said they need to ‘look after mum and dad!”

Police and the National Crime Agency admitted to Dinal’s parents that they were unable to trace the blackmailer but said that he appeared to have been operating from Nigeria.

South London Coroner’s Court heard that the blackmailer, who is also thought to have had other victims wrote: “So you think blocking me can stop me? What do you want me to do – you want me to send to all of your followers? Why can’t you just pay me? £100?”

Dinal, who had begun studying for the International Baccalaureate in sixth form and was top of the school in English and economics, had desires to attend University of Cambridge to read economics.

However, the contact with the blackmailer happened in October 2022, weeks into Dinal’s sixth form programme.

Once blackmailed, Dinal, a keen rugby player, responded that he had assumed the pictures had already been distributed.

The boy slipped out of the house at 2am and recorded a brief video of himself walking down a suburban street. Little more than an hour later, his body was found.

Mr De Alwis wept as he told the coroner: “Dinal was the most caring son. He was bright. He got straight As in all of his subjects at GCSEs and was top of the school for English and economics.

We come from Sri Lanka, so we were so proud to hear he was so good at English. He was brave. He played for the football and rugby teams at Whitgift School.

He never asked for anything from us. He was always happy with what he had. His loss is the biggest possible loss. It is so incredibly painful.

The fact that he ended his life in this way… the world is so cruel.

He didn’t show any sort of unhappiness. I think he wanted to avoid any shame from the images going public. I wish he had spoken to us.”

Tension in court as defendant attempts suicide

Palpable tension enveloped an Ikeja High Court on Tuesday when a suspect, Ayoko Oluwatobi, attempted to commit suicide.

Oluwatobi, 25, is standing trial before Justice Hakeem Oshodi, whose courtroom is situated on the second floor of a two-storey building and directly opposite the second gate of the court complex.

The defendant is facing a six-count charge bordering on causing grievous bodily harm, damage to property and membership of an unlawful society.

After his counsel moved his bail application, praying the court to admit him to bail on a liberal term, the prosecution objected to it, saying that the defendant was a flight risk.

He climbed the window of the courtroom in an attempt to jump down from the two-storey building.

According to reports, it took the intervention of policemen attached to the court and a correctional service officer to stop the defendant as they were able to hold one of his legs.
