I contemplated suicide after being duped of N450m-Ummi Ibrahim

Kannywood actress, Ummi Ibrahim better known as Ummi Zee Zee, says she planned suicide after losing the sum of N450 million to a fake business scheme.

The Hausa film star had earlier taken to her Instagram page to reveal that she “is miserable and feels like committing suicide” due to a reason she did not reveal at the time.

“This day, I live a miserable life to the extent that I want to commit suicide, but please non of anybody should ask me why? All I need from you people is a prayer,” she had written.

Her post had stirred diverse reactions with a number of her fans taking to the comment section to express worry over her wellbeing.

In a recent interview with Voice of America (Hausa), Ummi said she poured out her worry on social media because she was swindled of N450 million by a business partner whom she had been working with for some time.

“The reason for my post was because one Igbo man from the Niger Delta, with whom I started crude oil business, said there’s a certain amount of money I had to give for us to start the business,” she said in Hausa.

“And that I will make half payment and then give the remaining later. I didn’t know the man is a fraudster. He defrauded me of a huge amount of money and ran away. I sent him N450 million in dollars and he left with it.

“I called his number severally but it is switched off. When I checked his social media accounts, I found out that he had blocked me in all of them. I now live in Lagos.

“It was here that I met him and this is not the first time I had done business with him.

“What surprised me was that he came with some Europeans to prove to me that the business was real and a serious one. So, I never believed he will cheat me. I didn’t know what to do.”

  • Spain set to approve euthanasia, assisted suicide

Spain set to approve euthanasia, assisted suicide

Spain’s parliament will give final approval to a law legalising euthanasia Thursday, becoming one of the few nations to allow terminally-ill or gravely-injured patients to end their own suffering.

The legislation, which will take effect in June, follows growing public pressure generated by several high-profile cases, including that of Ramon Sampedro whose plight was immortalised in the Oscar-winning 2004 film “The Sea Inside”.

Speaking to AFP, Ramona Maneiro, a friend of Sampedro’s who helped him die, hailed the move as a victory “for those who can benefit from it” and “for Ramon”.

At the time, she was arrested but released due to lack of evidence, only admitting her role years later when the statute of limitations expired.

The move will see Spain become the fourth country in Europe to decriminalise assisted suicide, alongside the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Although Portugal’s parliament passed a similar law in January, it was blocked this week by the Constitutional Court.

The Spanish legislation will permit euthanasia in which medical staff intentionally end a life to relieve suffering, and assisted suicide in which it is the patient who carries out the procedure.

Various other countries permit the second option, as well as so-called “passive euthanasia” in which life-saving medical treatment is halted.

  • Why I contemplated suicide after marrying Prince Harry – Meghan Markle

Why I contemplated suicide after marrying Prince Harry – Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey in an interview on Sunday night that she contemplated suicide during her time as a working royal.

“You were having suicidal thoughts?” Oprah asked during the two-hour interview.

“Yes. It was very clear and very scary,” Meghan said in heartbreaking admission. “I just didn’t see a solution.”

“Look, I was really ashamed to have to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he’s suffered,” Meghan said. “But I knew that if I didn’t say that I would do it … and I just didn’t ― I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought.”

“I remember how [Harry] just cradled me. I went to the institution. And I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help. And I said that I’d never felt this way before. I need to go somewhere. And I was told that I couldn’t, because it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

Meghan clarified that when she said “the institution,” she was referring to several people and that, when she was feeling suicidal, she went to one of the most senior people for help.

“I share this because there’s so many people who are afraid to voice that they need help. And I know personally how hard it is to not just voice it, but when you voice it to be told no. And so I went to human resources. And I said ‘I need help,’” the duchess said, adding, “because at my old job there was a union and they would protect me.”

“They said, ‘My heart goes out to you because I see how bad it is. But there’s nothing we can do to protect you because you’re not a paid employee.’”

  • Former U.S. Olympics Coach commits suicide after sexual assault charges

Former U.S. Olympics Coach commits suicide after sexual assault charges

Former US Olympics women’s gymnastics coach John Geddert died by suicide Thursday, his body found hours after he was charged with human trafficking and abuse of athletes in his care.

“My office has been notified that the body of John Geddert was found late this afternoon after taking his own life,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement.

“This is a tragic end to a tragic story for everyone involved.”

Hours earlier Nessel had announced a 24-count criminal complaint against Geddert, who owned an elite training facility near Lansing, Michigan, where convicted sex offender Larry Nassar served as the gym doctor.

In addition to two sexual assault charges involving an unnamed athlete between the ages of 13 and 16, 20 counts of human trafficking and forced labor were the result of Geddert’s alleged coercive and abusive coaching practices “as he reportedly subjected his athletes to forced labor or services under extreme conditions that contributed to them suffering injuries and harm.”

“Geddert then neglected those injuries that were reported to him by the victims and used coercion, intimidation, threats and physical force to get them to perform to the standard he expected,” prosecutors said.

Nessel had said at a press conference streamed on social media Thursday morning that Geddert, 63, was expected to surrender to authorities at 2:15 pm on Thursday to be arraigned on the charges.

However, Michigan State Police said that his body was found at a highway rest area outside Lansing at 3:24 pm.

“Investigation is ongoing; no further details will be released at this time,” the police statement said.

Geddert coached the US women’s gymnastics team to gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

He came under scrutiny because of his close personal and professional relationship with Nassar, the former US national team doctor sentenced to life in prison over the sexual abuse of multiple young female gymnasts over almost three decades under the guise of medical treatment.

A personal coach to US gymnast Jordyn Wieber and owner of the Twistars training facility, Geddert was accused by many Nassar victims of requiring them to be treated by the disgraced doctor, who was convicted of multiple sexual assault charges and finally incarcerated in federal prison in 2018.

USA Gymnastics suspended Geddert in 2018, the year after he insisted he had “zero knowledge” of Nassar’s crimes, and he immediately retired.

Rachael Denhollander, a former gymnast who in 2016 was the first woman to publicly accuse Nassar of sexual assault, tweeted Thursday that Geddert’s abusive behavior was widely known as early as 2000.

“Geddert’s abuse, like so much, was never a secret. EVER,” she tweeted.

“In my memoir I wrote about knowing of it even as a club level gymnast in 2000. Because we have to grapple with the reality that it was known, and no one stopped him. It was known, and he was promoted and given more power.”

“I lost my mum at five. I didn’t really have a smooth childhood. I suffered from depression and attempted my first suicide in childhood. It was actually the only but I was able to go through all that and I’m still here today.

“Some people had time to grow through life but I had to mature in time. Losing your mum at the age of five, you’re exposed to a lot of things you’re not supposed to experience. I started working at the age of 17.

“I worked as an usher at events. From there, I started modeling. Some of the things I did, I didn’t expect would get me to where I’m today, I was trying to save money here and there to exit the country and start working abroad.”

On the state of the nation, Isime said: “As much as Nigeria is, there are still opportunities. Sometimes I get tired of seeing what is going on with the government. I call myself mental health advocate because I preach it.

“I’m a staunch believer in meditation, I work out as much as I can and I go for therapy, which I just began not long ago. For someone like me who acts, hosts events, it takes a lot out of me. I act in series, TV, and cinema.”.

”I go for therapy which I just began not too long.I have apps on my phone that helps me to balance my moods. Your mind is everything, if you get your mind right, you will get your life right”.

Kehinde was said to have been found dead on New Year’s eve at her apartment in the Kajola area along Oda-road, Akure.

A co-staff to the deceased at Shoprite who pleaded anonymity said late Kehinde reported late for work and was ordered suspended.

According to the staff, “It is normal that anyone who comes late should wait outside before they are allowed in and be given a suspension.

“She was seen arranging her table getting ready for the day’s sales as she looked happy but later left the mall at about 11 am after receiving the suspension letter.

“At about 4 pm, a distress call was received in the office that she was not feeling fine. One of the management staff went to check on her. • Tragic! Femi Giwa Amu’s daughter, Renua commits suicide

Tragic! Femi Giwa Amu’s daughter, Renua commits suicide

Renua, daughter of popular clergyman Femi Giwa-Amu has taken her life. The young lady reportedly took her life yesterday according to sources.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Renua had taken to her Instagram story yesterday to reveal that she was going to commit suicide while warning members of her family not to mourn her as they obviously do not care about her.

Earlier this year, Renua had called out her prominent father on social media accusing him of raping her as child on numerous occasion. Renua had alleged that her father molested and sexually abused many young girls that were put under his care.

Describing her harrowing experience in the hands of her father, Renua took to her facebook with the write up below which she captioned ‘A short open letter to a certain Mr OBAFEMI EHIMIGBAI GIWA-AMU’

The open letter read in part, “I know that you are a child molester, your numerous victims outnumber you and I remember everything now. All I have to say to you is this: You, your rings of pedophiles, bullies, thieves, hired cronies and family gang can do whatever you like in eternum.

“You already do so, and my belief in karma is strong enough to know that you have already begun the processes that will eventually be your own downfall. But lately, I got triggered again into remembering details about certain threats against me and my siblings you often made against our lives if I was ever to become successful and return to Nigeria after daring to come forward with my truth.

“We both know you won’t; that is how your specific and vile pathology works. I only feel sorry for the countless women and men who consciously or unconsciously allowed you access into their lives, homes, children and businesses over the decades of your horrific schemes.

“I wished that I could make you a better man when I was little and had no choice engaging in the things I eventually believed normal because of you. Not because you even deserve the simple joy of being a good person, but because this already wicked world never needed the vile stench of a soul like yours to walk it and the day you breathe last on it, will be a purer tomorrow.

“All of that is fact, already known widely and in private, but after having to watch helplessly before while you took various jobs, titles and high positions that allowed you, smuggle and steal, trick innocent parents into sending their children places with you when really you know anything you did for money was always a reluctant business front you used to scout more victims, sophisticated scams and channels to perpetuate more crimes across international borders….

“So at this point, I just have to make a necessary, painful but awkward and public announcement for people in respectable society to understand that you should perhaps be discouraged from being such a homicidal thieving pervert, or maybe at least not be able to ask their kids to sit in your lap casually anymore.”

Continuing, Renua said in another post how her father named his third wife after her. She said,” Also, my pedophile father renamed his third wife after me and she bears the name willingly. An uncle of mine dismissed my feelings about it, saying it was intended as a compliment.

“Yet it makes my skin crawl. They always find an excuse for this man and enough is enough. My uncles and aunties who have been raining insults and campaigning against me need to ask themselves what they are truly afraid of right now. It is only the truth getting out that scares pedophiles.”

  • I contemplated suicide during the pandemic- Taraji P. Henson

I contemplated suicide during the pandemic- Taraji P. Henson

American actress, Taraji P. Henson has opened up on how she contemplated committing suicide while battling with her mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Oscar nominee brought this revelation to light during a conversation on mental breakdown on the latest episode of ‘Peace of Mind with Taraji‘, her Facebook watch series.

“During this pandemic, it’s been hard on all of us, and I had a moment. I had a dark moment. I was in a dark place. For a couple of days, I couldn’t get out of the bed, I didn’t care. That’s not me. Then, I started having thoughts about ending it,” she said.

“It happened two nights in a row. I had purchased a gun not too long ago and it’s in the safe and I started like I could go in there right now and end it all because I wanted it to be over, but its in my head. I thought about my son and I said he’s grown, he’ll get over it. I just didn’t care.”

Taraji noted that she felt herself “withdrawing” from friends and loved ones but after two nights of suicidal thoughts, she knew she had to talk to someone.

“I felt myself withdrawing. People were calling me. I wasn’t responding. I didn’t care. Finally, I’m talking to one of my girlfriends and I knew I was smart enough to say ‘I have to say it,’ because a part of me was ashamed. I didn’t want them to think I’m crazy,” she said.

“So one day I just blurted it out to my girlfriend. She called me in the morning and I was like, ‘you know I thought about killing myself last night’. Oh my god, I feel so much better. I’m not gonna do it now.

“For me I’m no professional but I felt if I didn’t say it, then it becomes a plan. What scared me was that I did it two nights in a row and the thought kept coming and I started thinking about how. At first, it was like, I don’t want to be here. And then I started thinking about going and getting the gun.

“And that’s why when I woke up the next morning, I blurted it out. Because I felt like after a while it was going to take over me and it was going to become a plan because that’s how strong my brain is. Our thoughts…They’re that powerful.”

In 2019, Henson revealed how she battled with anxiety and depression.
