    KWAM 1’s son gets bail

    …..‘He isn’t part of the crime’-Publicist insists

Fuji maestro, KWAM 1 ‘s son would be in the best of mood at the moment as his son, Sultan has gotten bail following his arrest in the United States over allegedly taking part in a $2million fraud.

Recall that TNG had reported that Sultan along with eight others, allegedly involved in online romance and ‘mystery shopper’ schemes through which unsuspecting victims have lost at least $2 million in two years.

All the accused were rounded up following an international investigation into cyber-enabled fraud schemes in and out of America by a Chicago-based investigative team.

The arrested suspects in Illinois are named as KWAM 1’s son, Sultan Omogbadebo Anifowoshe, 26, aka Ayinde; Babatunde Ibraheem Akarigidi, 39; Miracle Ayokunle Okunola, 21; Olurotimi Akitunde Idowu, 55; Daniel Samuel Eta, 35; Babatunde Ladehinde Labiyi, 20; Barnabas Oghenerukevwe Edjieh, 29.

In a chat with Legit.ng, KWAM 1’s publicist , Kunle Rasheed noted that Sultan wasn’t involved in the crime.

“Our attention has been drawn to the news circulating that Sultan, K1 De Ultimate’s son was arrested alongside five other people in the US over Two million Dollars fraud. There is no doubt that he was among those that were arrested but what is however not true is that he is a fraudster. We can confidently say that he was not in any way involved in the crime, which explains the reason why he was the only person that was released on bail. The bail given to Sultan indicates that he is not involved in the crime; he is only a victim of circumstance who happened to be at a wrong place at a wrong time. Many detractors are quick to celebrate the news because to them, they want to get to the father. But the truth will always shine as light over darkness. Sultan, we believe will be given a clean bill of health.”

  • Give us credible elections in 2019, Sultan tells FG

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the Federal Government to ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in 2019.

Abubakar, represented by the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa, made the appeal on Friday at the 29th Muslim Sister’s National Conference in Abuja.

Let me justifiably appeal to the government on 2019 election to demonstrate moral determination to conduct a credible, free and fair elections, to fulfil the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 21 Section 3,” he said.

The Sultan quoted the section as follows: “The will of the people shall be the basis of authority of government.
“The will shall be expressed in periodic and general elections which shall be made by universal equal suffrage through secret vote or free voting procedure.”

He, therefore, urged Muslim sisters to exercise their democratic franchise and support religious institutions in the realisation of credible elections in the country.

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.”

  • Bloodshed in Nigeria becoming unbearable – Sultan

…as Ooni condemns trending voting buying by politicians, political parties

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar yesterday raised the alarm over the blood letting in the country.

He decried “too much bloodshed” and the rising cases of thuggery, terrorism and armed banditry.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, also criticised the “monetisation of politics”, which he said is adversely affecting the nation.

They spoke at a National Stakeholders Summit on the 2019 election’s Integrity and the unveiling of the “let the votes count, rig no vote” campaign organised by the Youths off The Street Initiative in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council.

The Sultan said Nigerians cannot continue to go about killing and spilling blood in the name of religion when both Islam and Christianity preach the sacredness of life which should be respected by all.

The Sultan said: “As Christians and Muslims, we know the sacredness of life. We cannot go about killing innocent people and claiming to be doing so in the name of religion. This is not right and must be condemned and must be removed from our communities. All of us must rise up against those people.

There is too much blood shedding in Nigeria. The blood of innocent people who do not even know what is happening or what is governance. This is happening across the country and if we don’t stop this and recognise the sacredness of human life, we cannot see peace, we cannot have peace and development in any place.

Nigerians must wake up and know that we must come together because our religion does not allow us to kill people, but preach peaceful co-existence, loving your neigbour as your self and things like that. So, when people spread a different notion about what Islam or Christianity said about loving your neigbour by killing him or abusing him everyday and calling him all manner of names, I don’t know.

The CAN President speaks for the millions of Christians in the country and I speak for my own brothers and sisters who are Muslims. You don’t have to bring everybody. You just need to bring the leadership to a room to discuss, but we must discuss what we believe in and what our religion orders us to. Once we go out, we can through the media spread that campaign.

It is one thing to come to a meeting and say one thing; it is another to go out and implement those things we agreed on. In Islam, for you to do what you don’t believe in is very bad and so, you can not say one thing and do another. So, we must do what we say and work with what we believe in.

People see politics as do or die. We should not see it that way. That is why we tell out politicians always that they should not feel they must be in a particular office always. You can contribute to the development of the country or your community by being an independent person. It is not by force for you to go into a public office.

If you know the consequences of holding a public office when you are going to face the Almighty God, you will not want to hold a public office. People feel you just come into public office, take whatever you want to take, go about in convoys. That is not leadership.

If you are elected by people, let them come near you so that you feel their pains. You can’t be in an office and nobody comes close to you. A leader must take decisions concerning his people by consultations. You don’t just wake up and enact a law that is totally against my freedom.

These are things that we must continue to speak out as religious and traditional rulers. There is nothing to fear about because if we don’t tell the truth, it will one day work against you and you will find yourself in a bad place and you will be struggling to get out of it and you won’t be able to.”

In the Sultan’s view, the country has a leadership problemthat should be addressed. He said: “If you hear so much cry, then something is wrong with the leadership and that leadership must take correction so that we see how to get things right. As religious leaders we must come together and realise that there are so many things we have in common than the few things that will lead us astray and those few things can lead you to hell fire as religious leaders.

We must be very serious about how we do things as religious leaders and if we want to have a country. We must be serious about the cry of the common man who is crying daily for one thing or the other. We think that things are right. Definitely, things are not right and when you know that there is a problem, then it is half solved. We must agree that there is problem so that we now know that we have half of the solution. The more we come together and talk, the more we come closer to the solution.

Now, we have a very common problem of thuggery, violence, terrorism, shedding innocent blood, among others. We must come together and solve this problem and when we take decision on this, please let us go back and implement those decisions.”

The Oni of Ife said: “This country is growing every day and nobody is talking about birth control. The population of Nigeria now is between 190 and 200 million while the leadership demography of this country is less than 1 per cent. They have been ruling us since 1960.

Let us compare notes and be realistic and face the fact that there is a problem in this country. Let us not hide under any color. The active population of this country is about 150 million people with a bleak future.

The young men that were apprehended and paraded for kidnapping the Chibok girls are below the age of 30. They thought they were doing business because they are very ignorant of what they were doing.

There is problem in this country. What are our leaders doing to orientate them? How are we orientating our youths? Anytime we want to destroy this country, we go to this set of Nigerians, give them money and the whole problem will start and the leaders won’t be able to handle it.

The oxygen of ideal politics is the people, but in Nigeria, the oxygen of Nigerian politics is money, see and buy. What a nation? We are not all safe. It is about time for us to know that the leaders of this country are not safe, same thing with the followers because a lot of the youths of this country are ignorant. What they want to do is sustain themselves and they need basic things to do that. Are we going to fold our hands and keep talking and not walk the talk? The problem is our problem.

Election is coming now and we are talking about one man, one vote. We can do all the talks forever, but what are we doing? There is true leadership and true followership. We all know that oxygen is life and the oxygen of Nigerian politics is money.

But everybody that is in leadership position should know that man made money and it has expiration date. Where is the sense of integrity and content of your character? What are our religious leaders doing? How well are we installing values in people that are so low to us.

Leadership is examination and you will not hear the result of your examination when you are still a leader because people will be hailing you. When you leave that position, your phone will stop ringing and they will move to another leader. When are we going to have a very strong character and moral in our society?

The problem is not just our leader, but all of us. It is very important for us to invest in Nigeria youths because the oxygen of politics is money. This country belongs to all Nigerians and the welfare of every Nigerian must count. The same way the votes of Nigerians will count individually, the welfare must also count. We are going into the next political dispensation, let us talk to ourselves.

Thieves, armed robbers, terrorists are not faceless people. They live in our midst and we can fish them out if we are serious enough. If we are serious enough, then we should let them know that they can be ostracised from the society and that they don’t have a place in this society. We should all come together and see how to better the lot of our youths.”

To Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) National President Rev. Samson Ayokunle, it is unfortunate that the electoral system has been manipulated over time, producing leaders who have not been accountable to the people.

He said: “I have wondered over the future of Nigeria in many places and have come to the conclusion that we are not where we are supposed to be as a nation because of the avalanche of the people of substance, well loaded people by the Lord God Himself who are supposed to be ruling us.

But in the past, through manipulation of votes cast, we have been having the wrong people at the helm of affairs. The blind has been leading those who can see. It is very unfortunate that the best Nigerian is not the leader of the nation.

We don’t want a mediocre, we don’t need a mediocre because you can only offer what you have; you cannot offer what you don’t have. And we, in this 21st century should be able to take our destiny in our own hands by saying ‘no’ to anyone, no matter how highly placed, that wants to manipulate elections, thereby mortgaging the future of Nigerians.

Can’t we have a people-oriented, selfless leader? Somebody that can add value and make all Nigerians proud? Actually, the religion one practices is not what matters but the quality of that person, quality in terms of serving Nigerians selflessly, objectively without nepotism or any other mundane considerations.”

That is what we need as stakeholders. There must be something connecting all of us in 2019 to pick the best Nigerian politician to be our leader. Otherwise, we mortgage again our future.

If you are talking about election integrity, the voters register will be a reliable one and that is what I am not sure of presently. The voters register as produced by INEC, is it a true voters register? Is there no manipulation in that voters register? And they have listed those who registered into regions and we relying on them have become the victim.

If the voters register is not reliable, then there will be no election integrity. Are we sure the registered Nigerians are not foreigners? For the elections of 2019 to be credible, there must be impartiality on the side of the election umpire. INEC must have no political party, no region. INEC must be the watchdog for us all to guarantee our future. If this is not the case, all the money spent on it will be a waste.

There must be impartiality on the part of the security agents. If the reports that we have heard and seen from the state elections that we have been watching, I don’t think there will be an election that will be free and fair in 2019.

The two political parties have not learnt their lesson. Vote buying by the two political parties, is that a way to stop corruption? We must be ready to talk sincerely to ourselves without fear or favor because we are in Nigeria together. Nobody has a higher stake in Nigeria than us.

There must be love for the nation by the contestants. I don’t know any other country where politicians are so desperate in having their way as Nigeria. We must also be sure that when we go to the courts, there must be said to do justice.”

  • Sultan blasts Ortom, Fani-Kayode for linking herdsmen killings to Danfodio

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll-led Jama’atu Nasril Islam on Tuesday knocked Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, for linking the herdsmen killings across Benue, Taraba and other parts of the North, to the continuation of the late Usman Danfodio’s jihad.

The Sultan is the President General of the JNI with its headquarters in Kaduna.

The group warned the governor and his cohorts, not to take Nigerian Muslims for granted by denigrating the Muslim community.

This was just as the JNI urged Nigerian Muslims to intensify prayers for peace as the 2019 general elections approach.

The JNI added that the need for Muslims to pray for hitch-free polls became imperative as politicians continued to foment crisis in the land.

He called on “Muslims to intensify prayers for peace to return to the nation and for a hitch-free 2019 general election as politicians are busy trying to cause crises with their unguarded utterances.”

Saying that the group would not have reacted to the governor’s vituperation, but for the fact that it maligned the name of the revered Usman Danfodio.

The JNI through its Secretary-General, Dr. Abubakar Khalid Aliyu, stated this in Kaduna on Tuesday.

The group said, “This is a reaction to a recent interview granted by HE Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue State to an online TV programme, The Osasu Show, in Makurdi, the state capital, and has been carried widely by both the print and electronic media, to the effect that the ongoing herders-farmers clashes in his state are a continuation of the Jihad of our revered Shehu Usman Danfodio.

For the records, the governor is not alone in throwing these tantrums, Femi Fani Kayode, one-time Minister of Aviation during the reign of President Obasanjo has always said lots of unprintable things against Shehu Danfodio. This rejoinder is premised on the fact that Islam does not encourage its adherents to castigate other people of faith or fabricate lies against them but encourages that once the Ummah (Society) of Islam is frequently maligned, then it is incumbent on the society to defend itself, hence the need for this write-up.

The Benue governor got it wrong, most likely because of his malicious intent to smear the revered personality of Shehu Danfodio who had said in a widely-quoted statement that: “Truth is an open wound, only justice can heal it.”

It should be noted that the Benue State Government and the Tiv Traditional Council have overtime been yelling that the Fulani crisis at their end is a continuation of Danfodiyo’s jihad. A case in point was the 17th March, 2014 press statement with Reference Number TTC/P1/2 signed by Ber Godwin, Press Secretary to the Tor Tiv and the Tiv Area Traditional Council.

We, therefore, call on all, particularly the Benue State Government and its cohorts not to take for granted the leadership of Nigerian Muslims over these unfortunate crises in the name of herders-farmers’ clashes, particularly at this very critical time when the security challenges in the country are so many. More so, it is Ramadan period, a time we Muslims are enjoined to be cautious and calm in our affairs.”

  • Sultan warns Kaduna politicians against hate speech

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar has urged Kaduna politicians to focus on promoting democracy in preparation for the 2019 general elections and shun hate speech.

He made this known while presenting his address at the Annual Pre-Ramadan lectures organised by the Jama’atul Nasirul Islam (JNI) in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He decried the attitude portrayed by politicians in Kaduna, describing it as worrisome and disturbing.

Abubakar called on them (Kaduna politicians) to make peace and stop the hate speech because Kaduna was key to the survival of the region.

“The attitude of politicians is becoming worrisome and disturbing, especially what is happening in Kaduna should stop.

“Kaduna politicians should close their ranks and stop the hate speech because Kaduna is key to the survival of the region,” he said.

The monarch also called for caution on the use of social media among the people, as politicians would do everything to promote religious, tribal, ethnic sentiments.

  • Sultan of Sokoto urges Muslims to get their PVCs ahead of 2019 elections

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of Supreme Council of Islamic for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Alhaji Saad Abubakar has stressed the need for all Muslim ummah to take advantage of the ongoing Continues Voter Registration CVR to obtained a voters card ahead of the 2019 General elections.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 32nd edtion of the National Quranic Recitation Competition holding in Katsina, Saad said it is only by doing this that one can have a say as to who becomes what and when.
According to him, the Muslim population is mass and it is those with cards are eligible to vote.
He said one can only actively participate with having a voters card noting that it is high time the Muslim ummah realised the need for it adding that ‎’ let’s get our voters card because it is with it that we can seek for our rights with our votes. All Muslims to seek their cards to enable us vote, People will come seek for votes and we shall then tell then what we need of them’
He enjoined leaders to fear God and the followers as well and should always pray so that we forged ahead in this trying period of our times adding that leaders must redouble effort to boost peaceful coexistence in various places.
In his remarks, the state governor Aminu Masari said the scourge of Almajiri education must be holistically looked at by all stakeholders giving the increasing misuse and social vices of system.
About 360 participants took part from 32 states and FCT in the 8 days event.
Amina Aliyu Mohd from Borno state and Amiru Yunus Guru from Bauchi state emerging as the overall winners carting home brand new cars, Hajj seats and other cash donations.
Gombe state was announced as winner of the hosting of next years 33rd edition of the competition.
  • Sultan, Ooni, others charge FG to immediately curb killings across Nigeria

The National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) has urged the federal government to end the senseless killings in the country, saying that life is too sacred to be wasted.

The Chairman of NCTRN and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, made the call at the opening of the council’s General Assembly in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Mr. Abubakar called on the federal government to institute a high powered commission of inquiry to investigate the killings across the country.

The theme of the NCTRN assembly is “Community Policing as a catalyst to Crime Prevention: The Role of Traditional Rulers.”

He urged the federal government and law enforcement agents to rise up to the challenge of securing lives and property.

“As we are meeting, if what is happening is failure of governance, we will discuss it in details and come up with an appropriate report to help government and the Nigerian society,” he said.

According to him, the traditional rulers are capable of stating things the way they are without sentiment in order to move the nation forward.

“We existed before 1914, so we have seen it all. We are there permanently unlike the political office holders that have tenures.

    “We must close ranks as traditional rulers to help build Nigeria;

“Let us build the comradeship we have among us down to the communities and let’s mean what we say, and say what we mean.

“Our coming together is unique. It implies that nothing can divide us. So, let us reduce the tension in the country because this is the time for statesmen to work for Nigeria.

“Let us stand and face the people that want to destroy our country,” he added.

The Sultan noted that Nigeria being part of the world, there could be external threats against her through the use of religion and ethnicity.

He urged the security agencies to always seek for the support as the royal fathers because they had the network to help them.

Also, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, pleaded with the traditional rulers to put politics aside and work assiduously toward meeting the challenges in the country.

“Some sections of Nigeria are aggrieved and some feel oppressed; let us come together and take up this challenge so that no one will blame us.

“Let us put politics aside, engage in peer review, apply sense of right and wrong, and speak the truth.

“The responsibility lies on our head; we must stop the blame game and stop talking the talk but walk the talk,” Mr. Ogunwusi said.

Earlier, King Dandeson Jaja, the Amayanabo of Opobo and Chairman, Local Organising Committee, said that Nigerians were eager to hear from the traditional rulers.

Mr. Jaja urged the federal government and the royal fathers to rise above ethnicity and sentiments to tackle the challenges in the country.

“The federal government should tackle the economic challenges and deteriorating security situation in the country,” he said.

The Chairman of Rivers Council of Traditional Rulers decried the practice by which royal fathers depended on government sponsorship to organise their programmes.

He, however, thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for hosting them and assured the traditional rulers that their stay in Rivers would be memorable.

  • Sultan tongue-lashes those demanding Fulani herdsmen be labelled terrorist group

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday, condemned those calling for proscription of Fulani herdsmen group, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria [MACBAN], despite the series of attacks launched against communities in different parts of the country.

He also absolved MACBAN, of any culpability in the recent killings of farmers in some parts of the country by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking at the General Assembly of Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, IDFP, in Abuja, Sultan Abubakar III, however, expressed shock that the federal government and security agencies had done nothing about herdsmen bearing arms in the country, despite the series of attacks they had launched against communities in different parts of the country.

He asked: “How is it possible for Fulani to attack settlements or communities to carry out killings of innocent people, destroy property and disappear without trace? Sultan Abubakar said Miyetti Allah was formed over 32 years ago to cater for the welfare and advance the growth of Fulani business.

He said that any Fulani man carrying arms and ammunition was not a member of the Miyetti Allah, explaining that the group which is now under his leadership as Grand Patron, was never a criminal group.

Miyetti Allah not criminal group Sultan Abubakar, who berated those calling for proscription of the group, challenged them to as well call for proscription of other Socio-ethnic organisations such as Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Arewa Consultative Forum, among others.

He said: “Miyetti Allah doesn’t control any Fulani man. Calling for proscription of Miyetti Allah is equivalent to calling for the proscription of other ethnic organisations like Afenifere, ACF, Ohanaeze and others. “It was formed 32 years ago and these crises were not there.

I am the patron and we have never asked Fulani herdsman to kill anybody. “Any Fulani man caught killing is a criminal and should be treated as such. What are the security agencies doing? If they have failed, they should accept that they have failed. “What is going on is not an ethnic problem; it’s not a religious problem, it’s an economic problem.” On the way out, the Sultan, who advocated dialogue, said: “What we need is to sit down and dialogue.

As religious leaders, we have to be very careful what we say, because it carries weight; our followers listen to us very seriously. “We must believe in one another, trust and love ourselves because that is what our two major religions advocate. We must continue to speak with one voice. We should not be labeling everybody a criminal because his brother is a criminal. “People are saying, label Miyetti Allah a terrorist group. No, we are not terrorists and can’t join terrorism.”

On the situation in Benue State, he recalled: “This thing didn’t start today. In the past eight years, I have been to Benue many times to discuss this issue. “We had met for hours and reached agreements, yet nothing has been implemented. Why? The former governors of Benue are still alive and they know all these.

“Even the present governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, had written to me to come again with my peace mission, but we had not had the opportunity before this round of crisis. “We must come to the bottom of this issue.

Meanwhile, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, holds a contrary view to the Sultan.

Ayokunle on his side accused some religious leaders of being insincere while commenting on the issue of killing of innocent people in the country.

Ayokunle, who was represented by the Bishop of Yola, Bishop Stephen Manza, said: ‘’As religious leaders, we need to condemn evil in this country. We’re seated here today as religious leaders, but how sincere are we in what we say?

“Christians at all levels believe in peace. This is time for us to speak with one voice. But my concern is whether we are sincere in what we are doing.

“We religious leaders, we deceive people a lot. We say one thing when we have another thing in mind. Our tribal and religious affiliations have overshadowed our Nigerianness.

“The problem is that we keep mute once a person is killed if he is not a member of our faith. Another thing is that we identify with people of our faith, even when the person is doing the wrong thing. We all know that President Muhammadu Buhari is not handling the security situation in the country well but certain persons are not talking, may be because he is a Muslim. And when Jonathan was there, some Christian leaders kept quiet because he’s a Christian.”

On his part, the Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Dioceses, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, however, assured Nigerians that the problem of insecurity threatening the soul of the nation was surmountable if Nigerians build trust among themselves.

He said: “Nothing happening in this country now that is beyond us, it is within our hands. But just like the Bishop of Yola has said, we need sincerity.

“We shouldn’t be praying for peace, when in the real sense, we are the ones causing crises everywhere. Talking for peace will give peace if there is truth. So, we must learn to build trust, trusting one another. We must join hands to do what is right.”
