    NiMet forecasts 3-day sunshine, haziness

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and haziness from Sunday to Tuesday across the country.

    NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, predicted sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern and North Central states during the forecast period.

    The agency said a moderate dust haze with visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the inland states throughout the forecast period.

    It envisaged early morning mist or fog over the coastal states and patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere over the coastal states during the afternoon and evening hours.

    ” For Monday, sunny and hazy atmosphere is expected over the Northern, North Central and the
    Inland states during the forecast period. Early morning Mist/Fog is expected over the Coastal states.

    “Patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the coastal states during the afternoon and evening hours,” it said.

    NiMet anticipated slight dust haze over the northern states throughout the forecast period on Tuesday.

    Also, a sunny and hazy atmosphere is expected over the North Central and Inland states during the forecast period.

    “Later in the day, prospects of thunderstorms are expected over parts of Borno, Taraba, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi and Kaduna states.

    “Cloudy atmosphere is envisaged over the North central region with prospects of intermittent rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi and Kwara states.

    “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states,” it said.

    According to it, cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over parts of the inland states of the South and the coastal cities in the morning with prospects of rain over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Delta and Bayelsa states.

    Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North central region in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi and Plateau states later in the day.

    It said Cloudy skies are expected over the inland states of the South and the coastal areas with chances of intermittent rains over Edo, Ogun, Ondo, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

    NiMet predicted thunderstorms with intermittent rains over parts of Edo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, Imo and Abia states later in the day.

    According to it, for areas where thunderstorms are expected, strong winds are likely to precede rains.

    NiMet advised the public to stay indoors especially during heavy rainfall to avoid being struck by lightning as the trees, electric poles, unsecured objects and weak buildings might be felled.

    It advised all Airline operators to avail themselves of weather reports periodically from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

    Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash flood. The Public is advised to take necessary caution.

    The agency advised Disaster risk managers, agencies and individuals to be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property during rainy season.

    “Cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine are anticipated over the inland states of the South with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Ogun and Edo states during the afternoon and evening hours.

    NiMet`s weather outlook released on Sunday predicted northern region of the country to be cloudy with intervals of sunshine as well as chances of thunderstorm over parts of Adamawa and Taraba during the morning hours.

    Few thunderstorms are also expected over parts of Adamawa, Taraba and Kaduna State within the forecast period while progressing into the day.

    NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine over the central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Nasarawa and Kogi.

    The agency envisaged chances of thunderstorms over parts of Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa later in the day.

    It predicted cloudy atmosphere over Inland and Coastal cities of South with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Ekiti, Imo, Edo, Enugu, Abia, Osun, Ondo, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos State during morning hours.

    NiMet anticipated thunderstorms over parts of Ogun, Oyo, Enugu, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers during the afternoon and evening period.

    Cloudy atmosphere are envisaged on Tuesday with intervals of sunshine over the northern region throughout the forecast period.

    NiMET also forecast North central region to be in cloudy atmosphere with sunshine intervals in the morning hours.

    “Progressing into the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Plateau, Nasarawa and Niger.

    “Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the Inland and coastal cities of the South in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross river and Rivers during the morning hours.

    “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Lagos state,“ the statement read in part.

    The agency predicted cloudy atmosphere on Wednesday with intervals of sunshine over the Northern region in the morning hours.

    NiMet forecast thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa and Taraba in the afternoon and evening hours later in the day.

    It further forecast the North central region to be in cloudy atmosphere with sunshine intervals during the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Nasarawa, Plateau and Federal Capital Territory during the afternoon and evening hours.

    Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the Inland and the coastal cities of the South with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River during the morning hours.

    “Progressing into the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over most parts of the region. For areas where thunderstorms are expected, strong and squally winds are likely. People should avoid parking and staying under tall trees.

    “To reduce incidences of erosion and overflow of water beyond its normal limit, gutters and water ways should be cleared of debris and obstacles to ensure free flow of water.

    “Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” NiMET said.

    According to it, there are prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Adamawa, Zamfara and Kebbi while Sokoto has prospect of thunderstorms with little or no rains later in the day.

    The agency forecast the north central cities to be cloudy with intervals of sunshine in the morning hours.

    It further forecast chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nassarawa, Kwara, Niger, Benue, Kogi and Plateau later in the day.

    “Cloudy skies should prevail over the inland cities of the South with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Ogun, Edo and Ondo state in the morning hours.

    “ Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Imo, Oyo, Enugu, Osun, Anambra, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Abia, Cross River and Ondo during the afternoon and evening hours.

    “The Coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy with chances of thunderstorms over Lagos, Delta and Bayelsa in the morning hours, “ it said.

    NiMet envisaged chances of thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa during the afternoon and evening hours.

    According to the agency, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over

    the northern cities in the morning hours on Monday.

    It, however, forecast chances of thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa and Sokoto during the afternoon and evening hours.

    NiMet predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over north central region during the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Benue, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Kogi and Federal Capital Territory during afternoon and evening hours.

    “ Cloudy skies are expected over the Inland cities of the south with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Ogun state in the morning hours.

    “ Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Imo, Ogun, Osun, Anambra and Ondo State during the afternoon and evening hours.

    “The coastal cities of the south are expected to be cloudy with chances of thunderstorms over Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom in the morning hours,“ it said.

    NiMet anticipated chances of thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Lagos during the afternoon and evening hours later in the day.

    The agency predicted sunny skies with patches of cloud over the northern region with chances of morning rains over Kaduna and Kebbi on Tuesday.

    It envisaged cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over the north central region with prospects of morning rains over parts of Niger state.

    “There are chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Taraba, Niger and Kogi.

    “The inland and coastal cities of the south are expected to be cloudy in the morning hours with chances of rains over Lagos, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa.

  • NPFL League Season: Rangers, Sunshine optimistic of good outing

    Ahead of the kick-off of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Season, Rangers International F.C of Enugu has expressed optimism of winning the prestigious trophy.

    The Technical Adviser of the team, Gbenga Ogunbote, told newsmen in Ijebu-Ode about his expectation for a successful season.

    “I have high expectations from my boys; our preparation for the season is almost complete as they recorded two wins in a day over two Lagos armature sides, at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode,” he said.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the Enugu-based team, won two friendly matches played at Ijebu-Ode.

    The team defeated Rising Stars of Lagos 6-0 and Cityfut Current F.C of Gbagade, Lagos 2-0.

    “I must say that we are almost there with regards to what is expected of us as the season approaches.

    “I had earlier said that the result of the friendly matches does not really matter, but the way we play as a team is what matters to me.

    “ I have that strong belief that before the start of the season, all we expect from the players shall be in place,” he said.

    Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars of Akure on Thursday entered into close camping in Iloko-Ilesha, Osun, as part of the team’s final round of preparations for for the 2017/2018 NPFL season.

    The Head Coach of the team, Duke University, commended the management of the club over the arrangements for the camping.

    TNG reports that the team will use the Oloshere International School football field for training.

    The club is expected to be in Ilesha for nine days.

    “We want to thank the management of our team and the Ondo State Government for providing this good place for us for our camping, It is a nice place.

    “The arrangement for our camping is commendable, and we hope to reciprocate with good results in the season,’’ Udi said.

    The coac solicited the cooperation of the club’s fans.

    “With their support, this could be a good year and season for us,” he said.

    Sunshine Stars will depart Iloko-Ijesha to Owerri to play the match’s day one encounter against Heartland on Jan. 14.
