  • 2023: Suspension of Kachikwu null and void – ADC state chairmen

2023: Suspension of Kachikwu null and void – ADC state chairmen

State chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have declared the suspension of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Dumebi Kachikwu null and void.

The National Working Committee of the party suspended Kachikwu on Friday over alleged anti-party activities.

His suspension was contained in a statement released on Saturday by the Deputy National Chairman (Politics) of the party, Mr Bamidele Ajadi.

Mr Ajadi accused Mr Kachikwu of making “defamatory’’ statements that contravened the values of the ADC. He also accused him of other anti-party activities.

Mr Ajadi described the action of Mr Kachikwu as a sign of “crass irresponsibility, gross indiscipline, disingenuous scandalisation’’ and an attempt to blackmail the party’s executives to do his bidding.

He stressed that such attitude was improper for someone who wants to be the president of Nigeria.

“The NWC viewed with great concern the baseless and defamatory video circulated by Mr Kachikwu, which was intended to disparage and impugn the integrity of ADC and its national officers,’’ Mr Ajadi wrote in the statement.

State chairmen of the party, however, told a news conference in Abuja on Saturday that a National Working Committee (NWC) whose tenure had elapsed could not suspend the candidate.

They said the tenure of the NWC lapsed in August.

Addressing the news conference, Mr Kingsley Ogga, Chairman of Forum of State Chairmen of ADC noted that the NWC had earlier convened a “fake and kangaroo’’ National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Aug. 26.

He said the fake NEC meeting lacked the constitutional requirement of seven days’ notice to be held.

“The said meeting was overcrowded with unknown persons and miscreants. State chairmen walked out of the meeting as non-NEC members were seated in large numbers.

“The purpose of the illegal meeting is best known to the National Chairman, the National Secretary and other members of the NWC.

“The said purpose was revealed when the fake meeting purportedly extended the tenure of the NWC.

“It is, therefore, important to state here that what transpired on Aug. 26 at the ADC secretariat was fake, unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect,’’ Ogga said.

He called on INEC to disregard the illegal suspension of Kachikwu and prevail on ADC to convene to elect a new NWC.

He said since the tenure of the NWC had expired, the states chairmen were in charge and would convene a NEC meeting on Monday to elect new NWC members.

“They do not have the capacity to suspend the presidential candidate; their tenure has expired.

“The people constituted to be NEC members are states chairmen and our serving House of Representatives members,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the Chairmen’s Forum, Mr Kenneth Odiom, said Kachikwu was duly elected at the party’s primary election and there were no questions about his emergence.

“Nobody in his right senses will suspend a presidential candidate when election is just around the corner.

“They are claiming that we are at war but there is no crisis in the ADC.

“ It is natural for peoples’ tenure to expire and natural for them to bow out of office.

“We are preaching that we want to reposition Nigeria and we cannot manage our affairs; that means we cannot tell Nigerians to trust us with their votes.

“We must of necessity put our house in order through a democratic process to make us a political party that is ready to change Nigeria for good,’’ he said.

Odiom added that a new caretaker committee would be structured in all the geopolitical zones to determine the affairs of the party for a national convention.

Emirates Airlines suspends all flight operations in Nigeria

Emirate Airlines has announced that it would suspend operations in Nigeria starting from September 1, 2022.

The decision by Emirates Airlines to stop operations in Nigeria was announced via a statement on Thursday morning in Lagos.

At least, $600 million from over 20 foreign airlines has been blocked in Nigeria since the beginning of the year.

Emirates had about two weeks ago said that out of these funds, it had about $85 million in Nigeria.

Recall that the airline had issues with repatriating trapped tickets sales funds in Nigeria back to United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The airline had on Monday cut its 11 weekly frequencies into Lagos Airport to just seven.

A statement by the media consultant to the airline in Nigeria alleged that all efforts to repatriate the funds had proved abortive and it was compelled to decide on suspending all flights into the country.

The airline’s statement on Thursday said: ”Emirates has tried every avenue to address our ongoing challenges in repatriating funds from Nigeria, and we have made considerable efforts to initiate dialogue with the relevant authorities for their urgent intervention to help find a viable solution.

”Regrettably, there has been no progress. Therefore, Emirates has taken the difficult decision to suspend all flights to and from Nigeria, effective September 1, 2022, to limit further losses and impact on our operational costs that continue to accumulate in the market.

”We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our customers, however, the circumstances are beyond our control at this stage. We will be working to help impacted customers make alternative travel arrangements wherever possible.

”Should there be any positive developments in the coming days regarding Emirates’ blocked funds in Nigeria, we will of course re-evaluate our decision. We remain keen to serve Nigeria, and our operations provide much-needed connectivity for Nigerian travelers, providing access to trade and tourism opportunities to Dubai and our broader network of over 130 destinations.”The emirate

Following the high cost of aviation fuel, and astronomical charges recently introduced by aviation agencies, international airlines have increased airfares by 100 percent, a development that has adversely affected domestic and international flight services in the country.

The airlines include major international carriers like Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, and Emirates Airlines, among others.

Social media users slam Pastor Leke Adeboye over ‘goat’ comment

Social media reactions have trailed the Instagram post of pastor Adeboye’s son, Leke Adeboye where he referred to pastors that preached their own sermon instead of a unifying sermon from daddy GO as goat.

In RCCG, each first Sunday of the month, all parishes are anticipated to hook up with the Nationwide Headquarters of the church, the place Daddy G.O. delivers the sermon, which is predicted to be the only sermon of the day.

In the said Instagram post, pastor Leke Adeboye had called out pastors who go about preaching their own prepared sermon as goats saying they were meant to join his father’s Thanksgiving sermon.

He said, ”Why would you go and preach another sermon after Daddy G.O. had just finished speaking and preaching.

”You are not a son, you are a goat sir. Next Thanksgiving service, just do an altar call, then Thanksgiving.”

His Instagram post have generated a lot of reactions from social media users as many tackled him for referring to human beings as goats

    Check comments below:

@Joanna8214, “That’s very rude of you, Leke Adeboye! You are the goat here.”

@TomisinAmokeoja, “Two wrongs don’t make a right, Leke Adeboye calling pastors goat was way overboard. Really leaves much to be desired. Always been controversial though. I wonder how he would have reacted if he was the G.O.”

@influentialayyo, “Why is Leke Adeboye like this? He is always scandalous. Why will a Christian call the image of God a goat?”

@ollynetworker, “#rccg should suspend Leke Adeboye for calling ordained pastors #GOAT. What a gut.”

@OkeAkinola, “The goat in this context is to describe erring children who don’t listen to fathers. A sheep is tender and easy to lead, a goat strays away at every slight opportunity.”

@CeciliaOkoroma, “This is simply not too nice a statement from ‘man of God’ and in particular, son of GO RCCG.”

@Chukwueloka_EE, “The question is whether the sermon they preached is good or bad, as your Daddy doesn’t own any sermon. Every good preaching is God’s. Meanwhile, calling them goats is not right. This is how some founders will die: boom power tussle, property dragging etc will ensue.”

@CODE_61329, “This is quite disgusting of him to bring the internal ramblings/politics to the media! He should be ready for the storm he brewed! Common sense should have told him to use the organization’s official channels and mind his language! Abuse of office everywhere!

@McRoi16, “It’s rather unfortunate that he abused the privilege of being the G.O.’s son. Well I expect that his father will call him to order.”
