  • PDP suspends outgoing Chairman

The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Mr. Adebayo Dayo over alleged anti-party activities.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Ogun PDP is currently enmeshed in leadership tussle with two factions. Chairmen of both factions are however laying claims to been the authentic.

While Hon. Sikirullai Ogundele claimed to the chairman of the arm of the party loyal to Hon. Ladi Adebutu, allegedly, with tacit support from the National body, Bayo Dayo claimed to be the authentic party Chairman in the state and his claim is backed by court order.

His camp is controlled by Senator Buruji Kashamu.

But on Monday in a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, Mr. Oyejide Sunkanmi, the party said it has suspended Bayo Dayo, alleging refusal to attend party meetings as one of the reasons for the decision.

The statement reads: “At a meeting of the Ogun State Working Committee (OGSWC) of the PDP held at the State PDP Headquarters in Abeokuta on the 26th of March, 2020, attended by officers listed in the schedule hereto with their signatures affixed, concerning allegations of anti-party activities against Engineer Adebayo Dayo (erstwhile State Chairman), it was resolved as follows:

“Notwithstanding the refusal of Engineer Adebayo Dayo to attend this meeting after being duly notified of the convening of the meeting by 2/3 of the members of the OGSWC of our great party drawn from the three (3) Senatorial districts, the PDP OGSWC hereby resolves to send its complaints of anti-party activities against Engineer Adebayo Dayo to the National Executive Committee of the party for disciplinary measures to be considered.

“Engineer Adebayo Dayo is hereby suspended for a period of one month from the date hereof in the first instance and thereafter until the National Executive Committee takes a decision regarding the allegations made by the PDP OGSWC against him.

“The State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Samson Kayode Bamgbose, is hereby authorised to act as State Chairman till the election of and handover to new officers of the Party at State level as scheduled.”

The resolution was signed by 10 members of the 14-member State Working Committee who are more than the quorum required to pass any resolution.

The Publicity Secretary urged all members of the party to remain calm as efforts are ongoing to reconcile and reposition the party and return it to winning ways “but that process must be driven by credible people who enjoy the confidence of all stakeholders and not political jobbers who are after their belly.”

In another development, members of the Ogun State PDP Exco has distanced itself from a letter which was signed by Dayo debriefing Prince Ajibola Oluyede of TRLP LAW as counsel to the party in the state.

The party said Dayo had no authority of the Ogun State PDP Exco to write the said letter dated 30th March, 2020, after he had been suspended.

In a letter dated 8th April, 2020, which was signed by the Acting State Chairman, Mr. Samson Bamgbose and State Secretary, Barrister Bimbo Lanre-Balogun, the party said, “We thank you for notifying us of the letter dated 30th March, 2020 allegedly written to you by the suspended State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo and hereby reiterate that Adebayo Dayo had no authority of the Ogun State Executive Committee, Local Government Executive Committees or the Ward Executive Committees of the party to write the letter to discontinue with your services as our lawyer.

“We had already suspended Engr. Adebayo Dayo from his position as Chairman since the 26th of March, 2020 in order that we might send our complaints against him to the National Working Committee/National Executive Committee of the Party for disciplinary processes to commence against him. Perhaps the letter written to you after his suspension was part of his design to destabilize our great party.

“We therefore implore you to discountenance the said letter and continue your good work on our behalf.

“In this regard, we hereby specifically instruct that you take steps to replace Adebayo Dayo as the representative of our Executive Committee in any court action in which he has sued or been sued as our representative.”

The letter was signed by all members of the State Executive Committee, which comprises of the State Working Committee, 20 Local Government party chairmen and relevant Ward Executives across the state’s 236 wards.

  • Suspension: Appeal Court fails to hear Oshiomhole’s suit

The Court of Appeal in Abuja failed on Friday to hear the appeal filed by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole’s appeal is against the March 4, 2020 interlocutory ruling by Justice Danlami Senchi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Jabi, suspending him (Oshiomhole) from office.

On March 10 this year, the Court of Appeal in Abuja, heard an ex-parte motion argued for Oshiomhole by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and ordered a stay of the execution of the ruling by Justice Senchi, pending the determination of the appeal by the APC Chairman.

The appellate court then adjourned further hearing till March 20, 2020.
When parties got to court on Friday, one of its officials told lawyers in the case that the court will no longer hear the appeal as earlier scheduled.

The official said a fresh hearing date will be communicated to parties.

  • Obaseki calls for thanksgiving over Oshiomhole’s suspension as APC chair

Obaseki calls for thanksgiving over Oshiomhole’s suspension as APC chair

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has hailed the ruling of an Abuja High Court which bars Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, from parading himself as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor stated this while addressing party members during the Edo South Senatorial rally of the APC in Benin City, the State capital.

Obaseki, who has been at daggers drawn with Oshiomhole over the soul of the party in Edo State described the ruling as God’s plan and a right decision for the party which calls for a thanksgiving to celebrate the it.

He said: “When we planned this meeting last week to meet with all our executives, we did not know that God has plan for us today.

“No man is God. God is God. No man can play God. With what God has done today, what we should do now is to just thank him.

“The meaning of what happened today is that peace has now finally come to our party. The purpose of God for Nigeria in our party will now be fulfilled.

“My problem with Comrade Oshiomhole is that when people started saying that they were Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), I called him and urged him to denounce them.

“I told him to come out and say something. I told him ‘Comrade, denounce them, you are the national chairman; disassociate yourself from these people that are destroying our party.’ Up till today, he did not.”

Obaseki, however, said that the decision of the court barring Oshiomhole from parading himself as national chairman of the APC did not make him a happy man.

“The court has taken the right decision today, but it does not make me a happy person because it would not have come to this.

“So, my message today is, when a child puts his hands in faeces, you do not cut off that hand, you take that hand and wash it.

“And for those our members who have been misled, we cannot practice our democracy the way it was in 1983,” the Governor said.

Bauchi Governor suspends another LG caretaker committee chairman

Governor Bala Mohammad of Bauchi State has approved the suspension of Alhaji Baffa Bara, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Kirfi Local Government.

The suspension is contained in a statement signed by Mr Muktar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Media, to the state governor in Bauchi on Monday.

Gidado said the chairman’s suspension is with immediate effect.

“These issues of financial impropriety had culminated to Bara’s invitation by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which the state government viewed as a very serious embarrassment that can not be tolerated.

“Gov. Bala Mohammad has approved the suspension of Baffa Bara, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Kirfi LGA of the State.

“The suspension was due to his nonchalant attitude in running the affairs of the local government and other issues of financial impropriety which culminated to his invitation by EFCC which the state government viewed as a very serious embarrassment that can not be tolerated.

“Government also observed that the suspended chairman had not been engaging stakeholders from the LGA as directed by the state governor.

“This act violates the principle of fair representation and participatory democracy as envisaged by the present administration in the state,” said Gidado.

The suspended chairman was directed to hand over the mantle of administration of the council to the Deputy Chairman along with all government property in his possession.

On Jan. 9, Gov. Bala Mohammad of Bauchi State suspended Mr Nura Dan-Maishari’a as Chairman Caretaker Committee, Ningi Local Government Council, of the state.

Maishari’a’s suspension was as a result of his alleged frequent abscondment from meetings of Local Government Chairmen, non-engagement of local government stakeholders in managing the local government affairs and nonchalant attitude toward indiscriminate felling of trees under his watch.

Adamu was suspended as a result of his persistent absenteeism from office, which contravened the ethics of his oath of office.

  • Boxing King: ‘It is pure political’, Oluwo reacts to suspension

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has described as political his purported suspension from Osun State Traditional Council meeting held today in Osogbo, the state capital.

Oluwo said the point given by the council was porous, lacking logic and do not portray the revered traditional council in good light as they refused to address the allegation that he punched a monarch, the reason for the meeting.

Oba Akanbi said any suspension from the Osun State traditional council meeting is subject to the approval of the state government. He described the suspension as audio, stating it is unprofessional of the respected Osun State traditional council meeting to make such pronouncement without the approval of the state government.

Reacting through a statement issued by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, Oluwo said the argument for the suspension was out of context, saying the reason the emergency meeting was summoned by the council was not addressed. Oluwo said he was surprised to note that his purported suspension for his conduct against certain traditional rulers is strange to the traditional institution book of history and will never stand.

He expressed disappointment that traditional council could be turned to an avenue of playing politics. He stated the highest level of injustice is for the council to say I was rude to the same Ooni who presided over a meeting where they said I was suspended.

“I was never suspended. The suspension reported by the media is just from the monthly Osun State Traditional Council meeting which is subject to the approval of the state government. It is sad to note that Osun State traditional council could be so political. They said I was rude to Alake, Ooni and Alaafin. And the same Ooni presided over the same meeting that purportedly pronounced my suspension from the Osun State traditional council meeting. If this should stand, many monarchs will not be encouraged to regard the council. It is just an audio pronouncement and an insult to the state government without consultation by the council”

“We were invited to address the allegation that I punched another Oba. The AIG and the government officials presence came to the meeting as witnesses and gave account that I didn’t beat any Oba. May be because the truth from the witnesses didn’t go with their expectation, they hatched unfounded excuse to make an audio suspension”

“It is pure political and there are many things attached but we keep mute to see how far this will stand”

  • BREAKING: Boxing King, Oluwo gets six months suspension

Osun state traditional rulers council has suspended the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi for six months over his attempt to drag the institution into the mud with his public conduct.

The council at its emergency meeting held at the Finance Building at the State Secretariat on Friday banned the monarch from attending its meetings and also constituted a committee headed by Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun to further investigate the matter.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedotun said the decision was not because of alleged fight between the Oluwo and Agbowu but due to his conduct to other traditional rulers in Yorubaland, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alake of Egbaland and the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The Oluwo was alleged to have punched a fellow monarch, the Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, Oba Dhikurulahi Akinropo during a peace meeting at the instance of the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone XI, Bashir Makama at his office in the state on the dispute between the monarch and members of Iwo traditional rulers council.

According to reports, the Director-General’s office has now been taken over by the most senior Director in the Commission.

They are being prosecuted on 12-count charges, allegedly conspired with each other to use the position of Mr Kawu to confer a corrupt advantage on Mr Omoluwa, his friend and associate.

The trio pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

The anti-graft also charged Kawu for allegedly ‘deceiving’ Mr Mohammed to sign the deal.

  • APGA suspends governorship flagbearer over alleged anti-party activities

The Abia State Working Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has slammed an indefinite suspension on the Governorship Candidate of the party in 2015 and 2019, Dr. Alex Otti.
The suspension was announced in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the party, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere and Sunday Onukwubiri, and made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Monday.
The party accused Otti of engaging in anti-poverty activities, saying that he equipped his political machinery, known as Abia First, to harass party officials and create divisions in the party.
It also accused Otti of indulging in illegal and unconstitutional activities as well as acts of insubordination to the party leadership, which “undermined the principle of party supremacy”.
It stated that the governorship candidate proceeded to the election tribunal after the 2019 poll “in the name of APGA without the consent and approval of the party.”
The party further alleged that Otti sponsored attacks on the party’s state and national leaderships in both the social and traditional print and electronic media.
It stated: “Otti’s Abia First was set up and equipped for the sole purpose of using it to display political force, harass party officers and create divisions in the party.
“It is also for the promotion of his selfish and personal political objectives against the interest of the party.
“Otti is hereby suspended indefinitely from the party with immediate effect, pending the hearing and determination of his case by a disciplinary committee to be set up by the party in the state.”
The party urged the public and institutions to take note of the suspension “and desist forthwith from having any dealings with Otti in any capacity as APGA member or representive in any capacity in Abia or elsewhere.”
The party also announced the expulsion of Chief Nkem Okoro, the Chairman of a faction of the party loyal to Otti, for alleged anti-party activities and breach of the party’s constitution.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the party copied the National Working Committee of the party, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in the statement.
In a swift reaction, Mr Ebere Uzoukwa, the Publicity Secretary of Otti’s faction of the party, dismissed the suspension as a nullity.
Uzuokwa said that Ehiemere and Onukwubiri lacked the legal power to suspend or expel any member of the party, having been allegedly replaced by Okoro-led executive that emerged during the party’s state congress in June.
