Late T. B. Joshua’s church opens up on ‘controversial’ church accounts audit

The leadership of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) has opened up on the audit of the church’s financial accounts, which reports have described as controversial.

The leadership of SCOAN, through its Head of Legal Department, Mr James Akhigbe clarified on Sunday that no person was in detention or being victimised over the ongoing audit of the church.

Mr Akhigbe made the clarification in a statement to disabuse public perception of misguided information being peddled on social media.

The SCOAN is one of the most populated churches in Nigeria with presence in other countries.

The Church lost its Founding Pastor, Prophet Temitope Balogun-Joshua, popularly known as (TB Joshua) on June 17, 2021.

The founder’s departure created a leadership vacuum, as he did not anoint anyone as his successor; a situation that continues to attract public speculation of leadership problems in the Church.

Recent reports had it that some disciples of the Church had been arrested and detained by the newly appointed SCOAN Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairperson and Leader of the Church, Mrs Evelyn TB. Joshua.

According to the statement, SCOAN wants the public and friends of the church to disregard such reports as they are untrue.

“It is a narrative conjured by detractors to discredit the Church.

“We stand in the light and we cannot compromise the ideal and legacy of our mentor and founder, late Senior Prophet TB Joshua on integrity, spiritual worship, unconditional love and humanitarianism.

“The public will recall that on Sept. 9TH 2021, the Board Of Trustees BOT of SCOAN appointed Mrs. Evelyn TB.Joshua widow of the late founder, its Chairperson.

“This followed an order of the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/L/CP/1109/2021 which appointed Mrs Evelyn TB.Joshua as a Trustee.

“The BOT had also appointed Mrs TB Joshua as the new leader of the Church with ratification by not less than 2,000 congregation of the Church at a meeting on Thursday, Sept.9, 2021.

“The church leadership took steps to secure certain critical assets of the Church with an authorisation for a comprehensive audit of the activities of the SCOAN since the founder passed away.

“This inventory involved some category of church workers including Disciples and it is being carried out objectively under a regular and absolutely normal environment without any harassment of persons.

“Contrary to the falsehood now being peddled by mischief makers in the media the audit is not to intimidate anyone as it is to strengthen the organisation,” the statement reads.

Succession saga: Court approves Evelyn Joshua to fill late T.B. Joshua’s space in SCOAN Trustee

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has approved the appointment of Mrs Evelyn Joshua as a trustee of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG gathered that Justice Tijjani Ringim gave the approval on Thursday while ruling on a petition by some concerned members of the church, especially Kola Kareem and Moji Oguntoyinbo, who filed for themselves and on behalf of all the members of SCOAN.

In the petition, they urged the court to appoint the widow of the founder of the church as a member of the trustees, in line with the constitution of the church which prescribes a minimum of three trustees for SCOAN.

The petitioners claimed that their petition followed the sudden demise of the late General Overseer of SCOAN, fondly called Prophet T. B. Joshua, who was also a church trustee.

They argued that the two surviving members of the Board of Trustees lacked the legal capacity to make decisions necessary to move the church forward, as the constitution provides for a minimum of three members on the Board of Trustees.

“In the circumstances, it became imperative for an additional trustee to be appointed to fill the vacancy created by the untimely death of the deceased founder,” they maintained.

The members instituted the suit against the Incorporated Trustees of SCOAN, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Mrs Evelyn Joshua.

They were represented in court by Emeka Ekweozor, while Ossazu Owie represented the first and second respondents.

Another counsel, O.N. Chukwu appeared for the CAC.

All the respondents, through their lawyers, informed the court that they were not opposed to the petition filed under Section 839 (6) (B) of the Companies and Allied matters Act (CAMA) 2020 (as Amended).

With no objections from the respondents, the court wasted no time in granting the approval and the expectation is that the move will provide further clarity on the leadership succession in the church.

TNG reports that late Prophet T.B. Joshua died in June few days to his 58th birthday. He was buried in the church premises in July, a month after his passing.

Thank you for shielding me – Widow tells T. B. Joshua

The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) on Tuesday held a service of tributes in honour of its Founder, Prophet T. B. Joshua, who died on June 5.

The service of tributes for T. B. Joshua was held at SCOAN premises, Ikotun, Lagos State.

The service was one of Joshua’s burial activities.

SCOAN had, at a news conference on June 29, said that July 5 to July 11, would be dedicated for a series of Joshua’s ‘laying to rest’ activities tagged: ‘Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Prophet Joshua (1963 to 2021)’.

In a tribute, Joshua’s widow, Evelyn, said that her 31 years of marriage to the late prophet was not without trials.

She said that her husband taught her to understand that trials strengthened children of God.

“For gold to become gold, it must pass through fire,” she said.

Evelyn said that her husband was dedicated to his ministry.

“You grew the church from an eight-member assembly sitting on a mat, to the ‘level we are today’.

“You grew me to be the woman I am today.

“I stand here today to say thank you for choosing me, caring for me and nurturing me.

“Thank you for being a good father to the children, thank you for shielding me from those who were bent on soiling our lives; you were undeterred,” Evelyn said.

She said that her husband spent his life on things that would outlive him.

Evelyn said her husband’s death was peaceful, but regretted that he would no longer be seen on earth.

“It is, however, comforting that you have gone home after service; sleep on my beloved. Sleep on my God’s general,” she said.

The prophet’s first daughter, Mrs Sarah Joshua-Moshi, said that her father taught her everything she knew about the Word of God.

She said that her father created time to care for her and her siblings.

“He told me that the work of God is beautiful. Indeed you lived a life of sacrifice till your last moment on earth.

“I will truly miss your conversations with me. I will truly miss your wisdom,” she said.

Sarah added that her father dedicated his life to humanitarian service.

The prophet’s second and third daughters, Promise and Hart, also poured encomiums on him, describing him as a great man and loving father.

His son-in-law, Mr Brian Moshi, said that he lived an exemplary life of service to God and humanity.

Moshi said that his father-in-law could do many things at the same time.

“You were a great teacher, yet a good student, a lion, yet a lamb.

“I have doubted so many times if you were human; you never waited for tomorrow to accomplish what could be done today,” Moshi said.

He described the late prophet as a trail blazer.

The event was anchored by two comedians, Gbenga Adeyinka and K. C. Brown.

A number of foreigners attended the event.

Pastor Jorge Arevalo from Honduras, and a Ghanaian, Mr Ebenezer First-Quao, read a biography of the late SCOAN founder.

In the biography, they read how the late prophet attained great heights from a humble beginning.

SCOAN: Hoteliers decry lull in business weeks after TB Joshua’s demise

Two hoteliers and guest house operators around the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at Ikotun-Egbe in Alimosho Local Government of Lagos State, have decried non patronage since the demise of the church founder, Temitope Joshua, known as TB Joshua on June 5.

The owners of the various facilities meant for lodging told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday that the demise of the SCOAN pastor had subjected them to anxiety.

Mr Alhponus Odioma, the owner of a 240-room facility in the area, said that his dream of making fortune through the provision of guest rooms and its sundry services to pilgrims to SCOAN had diminished.

Odioma said that close to a month now, his hotel that used to be very busy with checking in and exit of lodgers had become a ghost town.

“I began business in the area since 2007 with a little residential apartment that I acquired but with the upsurge of lodging demands, I had to get a bigger place.

“Like my other colleagues, I hired more personnel alongside constant innovation of services and facilities to retain and attract more patronage especially from foreigners that were coming to worship at SCOAN.

“We are now running at a deficit as we are experiencing lull in business. Before now, the revenue we usually realised in a week was enough to cater for a month’s over head.

“Right now, we are experiencing lull in our businesses without one knowing when it will end.” he said.

He said that he would be left with no other option than to retrench some of his workers if there is no end to the non patronage in sight.

He added that, though the spouse of the founder had been commissioned to take over as the leader of the church, but it is not yet known if she would able to perform in the deliverance ministry like the founder.

He said that it was the deliverance variant of the gospel that was attracting people from all over the world to the place; that sustained our businesses all those years.

Also, Chief Mathew Ohajiri, another hotelier, said that his facility and business were hanging in the balance as the place had been empty since the demise of Pastor TB Joshua.

He said that it was the church activities in the synagogue that were driving the business with lodgers scrambling for space daily.

Ohajiri, who expressed hope of the return of the good old days’ business with the raising of another healer in the synagogue, said that despondency had become their lot for now.

NAN reports that pockets of worshippers conducted Sunday service in an open space beside the church auditorium, as the church has remained locked since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

    CAN speaks on T. B. Joshua’s death

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday, said the death of Prophet Temitope Joshua, should be a reminder of life after death and salvation.

The late prophet is the Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and popularly known as TB Joshua.

The Media Assistant to CAN President, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, in an interview in Lagos, urged people to occupy themselves with causes that could earn them eternal life.

Oladeji, while expressing condolences over the demise of the late televangelist; described his home calling as a reminder to all mortals that there is a time for everything.

He reminded Nigerians that God created man for nothing other than to worship Him, saying materialism and the quest for affluence seems to preoccupy peoples’ time other than things of salvation.

“A time to be born and a time to die. That’s what the Bible says.

“He has played his own role on this side of the Jordan and he has relocated, we should therefore be conscious of the fact that death is unavoidable. You can’t run away from it.

“When it is time, you go. The important thing is to sleep in the Lord. Those who lived as Christians will reign with Christ and those who do otherwise have to spend their eternity in the Lake of Fire.

“Our hearts go to the family and the church he left behind. May God console and comfort them in this trying time,” he said.

The spokesman, who also condemned spate of violence in the country; tasked citizens to place national interest above personal and ethnic interest for peace and development.

The popular Nigerian pastor died early Sunday, June 6, six days to his 58th birthday.

    T. B. Joshua must be buried in our village – Oba Yisa Olanipekun

The Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko, Oba Yisa Olanipekun has said Prophet T. B. Joshua, the late founder and leader of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) must be buried in Arigidi-Akoko, Akoko North-West, Ondo State, Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Oba Olanipekun said this in his palace on Monday in an interview with BBC, stressing that the people of Arigidi-Akoko will not take it lightly if Joshua is buried elsewhere.

“I thank God for what God has done. You know, everything that happens in this life, we give glory to God. God is in control. He gives, He takes. He is the one that gave him to us; He has taken him.

“But my belief is that he has finished the job he came for. Yes, that’s my belief. We cannot query God. We have to accept whatever happened.

“Pastor T. B. Joshua is a lovely man. He cared for everybody. We are going to miss him so much. We know no leaf that dropped from the tree that God did not about it.

“But my trouble is that his wife, and the children should not allow them to bury him in Lagos. We are not going to take it lightly. He is from this town and we want him back here.

“I do not have access to the wife, but I am going to talk with her. She is not from here; she can decide anything she wants but we are not going to take it lightly. We are not going to take it from anybody. We have to bury him here,” the Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko said.

TNG reports T. B. Joshua, born 12 June 1963, died on Saturday night at the age of 57.

Joshua wrote that in a heavenly vision he had received divine anointing and a covenant from God to start his ministry.

  • BREAKING: Another popular man of God, Rev Akinola dies in Port Harcourt

BREAKING: Another popular man of God, Rev Akinola dies in Port Harcourt

Reverend Stephen Akinola, the General Superintendent (GS) of Redemption Ministries, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is dead.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the death of Reverend Akinola followed the death of Prophet T. B. Joshua, the founder and leader of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

The death of Akinola, popular for his Suya night and Wind of Fire programme, was confirmed to BBC on Sunday by one of his pastors.

Rev Akinola was born Stephen Oluwole Akinola on March 4th 1953 in Tamale, Northern Ghana, to Late Samuel Otunla and Late Madam Marian Akanke Akinola.

He was the last but one child of a family of 10 children.

His early education began at age 4 after his family had relocated further North to the town of Damago (Ghana). There he attended the only Primary School in the town as the youngest to have ever been admitted into Primary 1.

He sat for the Primary Six First School Leaving Certificate at age 10; at a time when the average age of pupils in that class was about 18 years.

He moved on to the Middle school in 1963, in Damango, preparatory for enrollment into Secondary School.

After two years in the Middle School, Stephen sat for the Secondary School examination and passed with distinction. At age 12, he gained admission into the Government Secondary School, Tamale, his birth place. Most unexpectedly, calamity struck just a year later when his loving father died in an accident, at age 13.

The psychological trauma resulting from this most unfortunate and devastating event virtually truncated his orientation, but for the timely intervention of his uncle, Late Papa Isaac Adelakun who fittingly became a surrogate father taking full responsibility for his secondary education, which he successfully concluded in 1970.

Upon his return to Nigeria after his secondary education in Ghana, he gained employment in 1971 to teach in the Baptist Primary School, Igboho his hometown in present day Oyo State. Two years later (in 1973) he proceeded to the Yaba College of Technology for further studies, where he had a dramatic salvation encounter with the Lord, precisely on 15th January, 1974.

From that point, God rolled away the dark clouds of gloom and uncertainties resulting from the untimely death of his father and re-oriented his life, his focus and overall perspective to life; it became indeed the dawn of a new endless day! In his own words, “from 1966 when I lost my father, I never quite recovered from the shock of it until I got saved in 1974”.

Stephen’s passion for a deeper and experiential knowledge of God led him to join the regular Bible Study sessions then holding in Pastor W. F. Kumuyi’s residence in the University of Lagos. This group was to metamorphous into the mega-movement of God, known today as the DEEPER CHRISTIAN LIFE MINISTRY.

In 1975, he passed his OND with flying colours, excelling in all three major areas of Sculpture, Painting and Graphics, and had the honour of choosing his preferred specialty for his HND. His dream was to be of the class and likes of Michelango, and Leo Da Vinci. He enrolled for his HND and graduated in flying colours in 1977.

HIS CALL TO (NATIONAL AND HIGHER) SERVICE

Providence directed his NYSC posting to Rivers State in 1977. His passion for God and commitment to the furtherance of the gospel of Jesus Christ led him to start the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in 1977 with 13 faithful brethren. By 1978, after some trying encounters, the power of God broke through with outstanding miracles, signs and wonders; as the sick were healed, the word of God was preached with uncommon insight, and demons cast out from countless multitudes.

Those were very trying years even as Bible-style miracles followed the ministry. His mission field eventually covered the old Rivers State (now Rivers and Bayelsa), Imo, Anambra, Cross Rivers (including present day Akwa Ibom), Benue, recent day Ebonyi, Abia and Enugu States.

By 1986, membership at the Port Harcourt headquarters of the Deeper Life had soared above 5,000 adults with two services every Sunday.

In January 1987, Pastor Akinola resigned from the Pastorate of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, and upon waiting on the Lord for direction, started the pioneering work of the Redemption Ministries with 13 faithful brethren at the Shiloh Hills Academy in Rumuibekwe Housing Estate, Port Harcourt. The ministry went through its trying times as expected even as God’s signature was boldly manifest at all times.

Redemption Ministries has ever since expanded in leaps and bounds with Assemblies and location Churches in several States of Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Canada and Brazil. Other thriving ministry arms of the Redemption Ministries today are the inter-denominational women’s outreach arm, the Divine Daughters of Destiny International, The Men Ablaze, The Thunderbolt Gospel Crusade – the evangelistic arm of the ministry, and several other outreach ministries which are impacting countless multitudes within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

The flag-ship programme of the Church is the WIND AND FIRE, an annual 8-day Camp Meeting / Conference on the Holy Spirit held from the third week of December every year. This event attracts thousands across denominations, from within and outside Nigeria, at its headquarters along Eastern By-pass, Port Harcourt.

Pastor Stephen Akinola, as he is fondly called, is a very well respected Christian father-figure, a Pastors Pastor, a distinguished preacher of the undiluted Word of God and a spiritual mentor to countless multitudes within and outside the vineyard of the Lord. He is married to Pastor (Mrs.) Matilda Ayebatonye Akinola. This marriage is blessed, to the glory of God, with a handful of children and grandchildren.
