    The Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Roads Traffic Services, FCTDRTS has issued a travel advisory on diversion of roads as President Bola Tinubu commissions rehabilitated International Conference Centre , ICC today.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports the the diversion from Tafawa Balewa Road to Warri street will further be linked to Emeka Anyaoku Street by First Generation Mortgage Bank.

    In the notice, motorists were advised to follow these instructions as there will be adequate security to monitor vehicular movements.

    The son of the renowned lawyer Afe Babalola, Gboyega Afe Babalola has married his lover, Amina, daughter of Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa from the Tafawa Balewa dynasty.

    Their ceremony was sealed at the Ansarudeen Mosque Maitama, Abuja on Friday.

    Former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani and former Ogun State governor, cum senator, Gbenga Daniel were among those who attended the wedding.

    The couple earlier held a civil wedding and the traditional ceremony

    Court restrains Abduljalil Balewa from parading himself as late Tafawa Balewa’s son

    An FCT High Court on Monday restrained Dr. Abuduljalil Balewa from claiming that the late first Prime Minister of Nigeria, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was his father.

    Mukhtar, Saddik, and Umar, children of the late prime minister, filed a suit before Justice Peter Kekemeke claiming that Dr. Abduljalil was not their brother

    Delivering judgment in the suit marked FCT/HC/CV/956/2015, Kekemeke held that the claimants have proved their case.

    He held that from the evidence the claimants placed before the court, they have proven their case.

    The judge held that the defendant,  Abduljalil did not prove his claims to the late prime minister’s paternity.

    ”There is no evidence presented to show that the late prime minister was his father nor evidence of where he was born.

    ”No evidence to show that there was a marriage between his mother and the late premier.

    ”Is my view that the claimants have proved their case from the evidence placed before the court.

    ”In the circumstance,  the case succeeds, judgment is thereby entered in favour of the claimants against the defendant as follows:

    ”The defendant was never the son of the late prime minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

    ”Order of perpetual injunction is placed on the defendant restraining himself, agents or servants from referring to himself as the son or grandson or blood relation of Sir Balewa.

    ”In addition a public apology and retraction of all previous claims by the defendant in the print and electronic media that he is the son or grandson of the late prime minister.

    ”Also, a sum of N250,000 as cost for the claim should be paid by the defendant.

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo-Addo and Mahamad Ennaceur, former interim President of Tunisia have been nominated for the African Leadership Award.

    Similarly, the first Prime Minister of Nigeria, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, former President of Ghana Jerry Rawlings and Desmond Tutu, former Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, South Africa, have also been nominated for Posthumous Elites Heroes award.

    The Prestigious Elites Organisations Board announced this in a statement issued by the Executive Chairman, Mr Uwakhemen Festus on behalf of the governing council, on Friday in Abuja.

    Festus said the names were carefully selected through due process.

    He also stated that the first award recipients would be inducted into the African Prestigious Elites Leaders Hall of Fame and Personality Award respectively, and that the nominated recipients approved by the organization’s advisory board would be inducted into the ‘Africa Highest Honour Award (AHHA)’ as nomination letters were being sent out to them.

    He listed other nominees for the African Prestigious Elite Leaders Hall of Fame category to include, Adly Mahmoud Mansour, former President of Egypt, and Jose’ Mario Vaz, former President of Guinea-Bissau.

    “Also nominated for Posthumous Elites Heroes award are; Nnamdi Azikiwe, first President of Nigeria; John Mills, former President of Ghana; Musa Yar’adua former President of Nigeria, M.K.O Abiola (GCFR) and Shehu Shagari (GCFR).

    “The governing council also nominated great African entrepreneurs who have contributed their quota through job creation, innovations, manufacturing, and humanitarian support across Africa and for Africans.”

    He also listed the nominees to be inducted into AHHA as African Prestigious Elite Personality to include; Abdul Rabiu, BUA Group of Nigeria, Innocent Chukwuma, Innoson Group of Nigeria and Sir Sam Jonah, Helios Tower of Ghana,

    Others are Alhaji Abdulmunaf Sarina, Azman Group of Nigeria, Herman Mashaba, Black Like Me of South Africa and Patricia Diaby, Plot Enterprise Group of Ghana who is the first woman to be inducted into the Africa highest honor.

    Also to be inducted are Dele Momodu, Ovation Magazine; Ibrahim Mahama, Dzata Cement of Ghana; Nduka Obaigbena, Thisday Media Group of Nigeria and Patrice Motsepe, African Rainbow Minerals of South Africa amongst others.

    The remains of Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, wife to Nigeria’s first prime minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, has been buried on Monday at the Bauchi Central Cemetery in Bauchi State.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the funeral prayers, presided by the Chief Imam of Bauchi Central Mosque, Mallam Bala Baba-Inna, took place at exactly 2.15 p.m at the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi with Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and other dignitaries in attendance.

    Others who also attended the funeral rite were the Emirs of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman; Dass, Alhaji Bilyamunu Othman; Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Danyaya; Misau,

    Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman; Katagum, Alhaji Umar Farouk, and and representative of that Jama’are, Yerima Jama’are.

    Jummai passed away at a Lagos hospital on Sunday at 4 p.m after a protracted illness.

    She was aged 85, and left behind eight children and many grandchildren.

    Death of Balewa’s wife: BASG urges Bauchi people to honour Balewa family

    Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on people of the state to honour Balewa family by turning out enmass and attending the burial of Jummai Abubakar, wife of late Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

    In a statement issued by Muntari Gidado, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Muhammed, described the death as a great loss, not only to her immediate family members , but to the people of the state and Nigeria in general.

    He recalled the active participation and contributions of the late prime minister in the Nigeria project, especially his tremendous contributions and sacrifices in keeping Nigeria as one indivisible and united entity.

    Muhammed prayed to Allah to forgive her shortcomings, bless what she left behind, grant her paradise, and give her family , the people of the state and entire nation, the fortitude to bear the loss.

    He, therefore, called on the people of the State to come out enmass and attend the funeral prayer of the deceased as a mark of respect for the Balewa family.

    News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jummai passed away on Sunday Oct. 27, 2019, in a Lagos hospital, at the age of 85, after a protracted illness.

    She left behind eight children and many grandchildren.

    Her burial has been fixed for Monday (today), Oct.28, by 2pm at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi.

    …Buhari mourns, sends presidential jet to evacuate her remains

    The only surviving wife of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, is dead.

    Hajiya Jummai Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, died of cardiac arrest on Sunday in Lagos.

    It was learnt that she was taken to India to seek medical attention for her heart disease before she was later discharged some days ago.

    It was further learnt the late Hajiya Jummai died in Lagos in the early hours of Sunday after a protracted illness.

    Granddaughter of the late Prime Minister, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, confirmed the development, saying she died of cardiac arrest.

    Wanka in an interview confirmed that the deceased had stopped over in Lagos to rest before returning to Bauchi.

    According to her, she passed away in the early hours of Sunday after she went into a coma.

    Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the late Prime Minister, on the loss of Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, Balewa’s last surviving wife, who died on Sunday at the age of 85, even as the president approved presidential jet for her evacuation from Lagos to Bauchi.

    The President’s condolence message is communicated through a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday.

    In the message sent through the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, President Buhari said: “It was with the deepest sense of sorrow that I have learnt of the tragic demise of Hajiya Jummai Tafawa Balewa.

    “In her sad demise, Nigeria has lost an outstanding political figure, who was passionately committed to the cause of the family and the legacies of her late husband.

    “I convey my heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family, the government and people of Bauchi State and the entire people of our dear country. May Allah repose her soul.”

    Meanwhile, President Buhari has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, to make an aircraft from the Presidential fleet available for the evacuation of the remains of the deceased from Lagos, where she died in a private hospital, to Bauchi.

    The remains of the late prime minister’s wife, who died at the age of 85, will be committed to mother earth in Bauchi on Monday.

  • Bauchi gov denies conceding defeat as INEC resumes collation of Tafawa Balewa results

    The Independent National Electoral Commission has resumed the collation of the contentious results of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State which were earlier cancelled.

    The collation, which is taking place at the INEC Headquarters, Bauchi instead of Zwall, the Tafawa Balewa LGA Collation Centre, will lead to the declaration of the winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.

    Recall that the Federal High Court, Abuja had ordered that the results of the Local Government Area which were earlier cancelled by the state Returning Officer, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, be collated and announced.

    Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bauchi State, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the development.

    He said: “Right now in that room, they are submitting the regenerated or reconstructed results which were carted away, from the wards to the Local Government Collation Officer.

    After that, the Local Government Collation Officer will come to the state Collation Officer, submit his report and after that, the State Collation Officer will round up, declare and return the winner.”

    According to him, the development is in conformity with Section 6 & 7 of the INEC guidelines for the 2019 general elections empowers a REC, in the case of any mutilation of results, to order the LG Collation Officer to the results using form EC8B pointing out that “I have already given them that permission.”
