    NFF President visits injured Awoniyi in UK

    President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, on Thursday paid a visit to Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, at his residence in Nottingham, UK.

    The purpose of the visit was to check on Awoniyi’s health and to ascertain the stage of his recovery following a serious injury sustained during a match.

    Gusau was accompanied by some members of the NFF Executive Board, who also extended their support and encouragement to the injured Nottingham Forest forward.

    Speaking during the visit, Gusau expressed his delight upon seeing that the striker was in good spirits and steadily recovering from his recent surgery.

    The NFF President, recently appointed President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), also offered prayers for Awoniyi’s swift recovery and wellbeing.

    He described Awoniyi as a key player for Nigeria and Nottingham Forest, noting his importance to both club and country on and off the pitch.

    Gusau added that the NFF would continue to monitor Awoniyi’s progress and offer any support needed to help him return to full fitness.

    In his response, Awoniyi thanked the NFF President and his delegation for their thoughtful visit and the encouragement they brought with them.

    He expressed appreciation for the love shown by the football authorities and assured them that his rehabilitation was going well under the guidance of medical experts.

    Awoniyi stated that he remained hopeful of returning stronger and was doing everything possible to get back to playing competitive football as soon as possible.

    The striker sustained the injury during a Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.

    The game, which ended in a 2-2 draw, saw Awoniyi collide with the goalpost while attempting to score, a moment that caused great concern.

    In spite of the pain, Awoniyi managed to continue playing for some time before being substituted and taken for medical assessment.

    It was later confirmed that the striker had suffered a ruptured intestine, a serious condition which required emergency surgical intervention to address.

    Since undergoing surgery, the player has been recuperating at home, under close medical supervision, and receiving regular follow-up care from the club’s health team.

    The NFF’s visit highlights the Federation’s commitment to player welfare and its ongoing efforts to maintain strong connections with Nigerian footballers based abroad.

    Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi, has undergone emergency abdominal surgery following a collision in their Premier League clash against Leicester on Sunday.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that Super Eagles forward while attempting to connect with Anthony Elanga’s cross, collided with the post in the 88th minute, a few minutes after coming off the bench.

    He received treatment on the pitch, and he was able to continue, but was clearly struggling before managing to see off the game.

    Nottingham Forest have now confirmed in a statement on Monday that Awoniyi has undergone an urgent surgery.

    The statement read: “The club can confirm Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent surgery following an abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City.

    “Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Taiwo. The club will provide further updates when appropriate.”

    Similarly, the club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, clarified that he stormed onto the pitch after the encounter to express his frustration at the way Awoniyi’s injury was handled while wishing him a quick recovery.

    He said, “Everybody—coaching staff, players, supporters, and including myself—was frustrated by Taiwo’s injury and the medical staff’s misjudgement of his ability to continue the game.

    “This is natural; this is a demonstration of the passion we feel for our club.”

    Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi could be on his way to another Englis Premier Leage side, West Ham United.

    There are reports Nottingham Forest are open to selling the Nigeria international to avoid another breach of the Premier League’s financial rules.

    Nottingham Forest, according to the Premier League, admitted to breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

    The Tricky Trees have already been handed a four-point deduction as punishment for their offence.

    Forest are however at risk of committing the same offence next season if they don’t sell one of their top stars in the summer.

    Awoniyi has been touted as the player they will be willing to sell to rake in the needed cash.

    West Ham showed interest in the striker last summer but had their offer firmly rejected by Forest.

    The Hammers are set to move again for the former Liverpool player in the summer.

    Awoniyi has already scored twice against West Ham this season

    The 26-year-old has scored six league goals this season.

    He joined Nottingham Forest from Bundesliga outfit, Union Berlin for £17.5m in June 2022.

    Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi ruled out of AFCON

    Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as a result of groin injury.

    Recall that Awoniyi sustained the injury in Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho last Thursday.

    The 26-year-old was replaced by Terem Moffi in the 59th minute of the encounter.

    The Kwara born forward missed the Super Eagles second World Cup qualifying game against Zimbabwe at the Huye stadium in Rwanda.

    “It’s bad news on Taiwo, he’s had to have surgery and he is going to be out for months,” Forest boss, Steve Cooper told a press conference on Thursday.

    “We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be, but it’s a really unfortunate situation and a blow for him.

    “He’s become an important player for us with the goals he’s scored and the goals he will score for us, but he’s such a good guy and a good professional who is desperate to do well, so to get an injury like this is harsh on him.”

    Awoniyi has scored four goals in 11 games for the Tricky Trees this season.

    Taiwo Awoniyi injured, set to miss Super Eagles clash with Zimbabwe

    Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest forward,  Taiwo Awoniyi has departed the Super Eagles camp after picking up an injury in the match against Lesotho’s Crocodiles.

    Awoniyi partnered Victor Boniface upfront against the Crocodiles of Lesotho but neither of them could score a goal in the match.

    The Nottingham Forest striker missed a sitter after being set up for goal by partner Victor Boniface in the first half of the encounter.

    The Nottingham Forest man was replaced in the second half by Jose Peseiro, with Terem Moffi making an entrance into the pitch in his stead.

    However, It has been revealed that Awoniyi, 26, has decided to return to England to take care of the groin injury that has afflicted him from his time with the national team.

    The Super Eagles will be without the former Union Berlin striker for their must-win match against Zimbabwe. Peseiro’s options include Boniface, Moffi and Sadiq Umar, and the Portuguese manager must find a way for the Eagles to win.

    But the 26-year-old may now be facing another spell on the sidelines after his withdrawal from the Nigeria squad.

    “Taiwo Awoniyi has left for his base due to pain in the groin and returns to England tonight after discussions between his club doctors and Super Eagles medical team,” a statement from the Nigerian FA said.

    Forest will be sweating over Awoniyi’s fitness ahead of their next Premier League clash on Saturday, November 25. The Reds take on Brighton at the City Ground before another game at home when they face Everton a week later.

    Taiwo Awoniyi the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Nothingham Forest attacker has explained reasons behind his goal celebration against Sao Tome & Principe.

    According to the lanky striker, Awoniyi said his goal celebration is a way of saying thank you to God for the goals.

    Awoniyi offered the exclamation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ilorin.

    Recall that the Nothingham Forest attacker was on the scoresheet when the Super Eagles pummelled their visitors in Uyo on Sept. 10, in the last match of the 2024 AFCON qualifiers.

    Awoniyi then while celebrating the goal covered his face with his shinguards which has a cross as an inscription on it.

    “God is the only one that can make things happen and it is my own way of sharing light to the world.

    “I always believe that even though you are not a perfect human being, light is always shinning in the darkness.

    “One with God is the majority and that was why I chose to celebrate my goal that way,” Awoniyi said.

    The Super Eagles’ marksman, who described representing Nigeria at any stage as a privilege, pledged to always give his best whenever he is called upon.

    Awoniyi has scored thrice in four games played so far this in the English Premier League, even though he has become a household name in Nothingham in England.

    Nigeria finished top of the group with 15 points ahead of Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.

    Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been voted by Nottingham  Forest supporters as Player of the Month for August.

    Awoniyi  scored three goals in three consecutive matches  for Nottingham Forest in August.

    The former Union Berlin forward was massively voted for with an overwhelming 83% votes.

    The 26-year-old also won the club’s Goal of the Month award.

    The forward’s run and finish against Manchester United was voted for by most fans as the best for August.

    Awoniyi got 38% votes to win the second award.

    The striker has so far scored three goals and registered one assist in four Premier League games this season.

    Awoniyi also scored one of the goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2024  AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on Sunday.

    Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi on Friday night set a new record for Nigerian players in the Premier League after netting in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 victory against Sheffield United.

    Awoniyi lashed on to a cross from Sergier Aurie to nod into the net Forest’s first goal of the encounter inside four minute.

    Recall that the former Union Berlin forward was also on target in Forest’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

    Awoniyi is now the first Nigerian to score in six consecutive Premier League games.

    The striker will now look to become the third African player to score in seven consecutive games when Nottingham Forest travel to Old Trafford on Saturday, August 26.

    Only Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohammed Salah have achieved the feat.

    Last season, Awoniyi finished as Forest top scorer with 10 goals for them to escape relegation.

    The player has now scored two goals in two premiership games this season same as Erling Haaland.

    Saturday August 12, 2023 will forever be in the memory of Nigeria and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi as he recorded three big celebrations to his name.

    The lanky forward celebrated his birthday on the day before scoring his side’s  only goal against Arsenal.

    Awoniyi started the game on the bench as the Gunners cruised to a comfortable 2-0 lead.

    In the 71st minute, Awoniyi was introduced for Danilo to help spark Nottingham back into the game.

    With the goal, Awoniyi became only the second Nottingham Forest player to score in five consecutive Premier League appearances since Stan Collymore did the same 28 years ago.

    Later in the day, Awoniyi’s wife put to bed for the couple’s second child.

    In viral photos on social media, Awoniyi wears a Nottingham Forest training kit as he holds his son.

    Awoniyi and his wife Taiwo Jesudun welcomed a new baby according to several posts on social media.

    Nigerian forward, Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal wasn’t enough to rescue a point for his visiting team Nottingham Forest as they succumbed 2-1 to the superior firepower of Arsenal at the Emirate.

    Bukayo Saka’s superb curler gets Gunners’ title bid off to winning start, scoring the second goal for the Gunners in the 32nd minute before Awoniyi’s goal reduced the deficit in the 81st minute of the encounter.

    Four minutes before Saka’s goal, Eddie Nketiah  received a pass from Martinelli who sold couple of dummies to the Nottingham defenders before connecting with the goal scorer, Nketiah who fired a shot through Worrall’s legs with a bit of a deflection into the back of the net.

    The community shield winner, Arsenal are currently occupying the second position on the log as of the time of filing this report.
