Between Gov. Tambuwal, Opposition and Developmental Projects

Our attention has been drawn to an ultimatum issued by some unscrupulous people who paraded themselves as APC members in Sokoto State by the name APC Adalci Buhari Sak demanding Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to declare his stand on President Buhari or risk more deadly opposition from them.

To say the least, this statement is nothing but only an attempt to factionalize our party, distract the Tambuwal administration, score cheap political point as well as deceive the gullible minds.

We wish to state categorically here that the Group APC Adalci Buhari Sak is unknown, while its members nonentities in the APC. There emergence is only to create false impression among the APC ranks and a distrust between Sokoto State APC and Governor Tambuwal on one hand, and the Buhari administration on the other.

The members of the so called APC Adalci Buhari Sak have never in one way or the other contributed to the development and progress whatsoever of the ruling APC in Sokoto State and country in general, hitherto contributed in creating and instilling choas in the party since coming together of many political parties (merger) to form All Progressive Party (APC), the party that salvage the country from the hand of detractors who deliberately intended to turn down the country to unprogressive society.

We want Sakkwatawa to take note that Dahiru Yusuf Yabo has been on self-imposed exile in Kano state, until when he realized the beginning of 2019 electioneering period is drawing nearer that he teamed up with his like-minds to wreak havoc on the party. His re-appearance to cash in and be relevant in Sokoto state politics is only an opportunity to hoodwink the people.

For Professor Lawal Bashar, his case is that of a drowning man who is trying in vain to survive in his political escapades. First, he faulted the sharing formula of political positions to the legacy parties that formed the APC, but he was squarely addressed by his colleagues from the old CPC led by Ibrahim Magaji Gusau, who is a Special Adviser to the Governor on political affairs. Having lost his first battle, he is now spearheaded the formation of this unknown, unregistered and subversive group by the name APC Adalci Buhari Sak group.

It is worthy of note that there has never been a single instance either secretly or openly when Governor Tambuwal demonstrated disloyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, ever since the formation of APC to date. He has been a consistent and loyal adherent of political principles of President Buhari and the APC he helped came into being, as an alternative political platform.

On the issue of Governor Tambuwal’s alleged relationship with Governor Wike of Rivers state, it is a relation of both lawyers who know each other even before they joined partisan politics. Similarly, even if they are not colleagues in law practice, there is nothing sinister or wrong for governors to relate and work together for the good of their citizens and the country as a whole. Ever since the return of democracy in Nigeria such friendship and relationship do exist between governors from different political parties. It happened between former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa and Adamu Mu’azu, former Governor of Bauchi State. A school constructed by Bafarawa of ANPP was named after Adamu Mu’azu’s of PDP.

The group then dwelt on billions of public funds squandered without commensurate infrastructure, which showed they are either deaf and dump or being deliberately mischievous and hypocrites. It is on record that, in the last three years, the Tambuwal administration has done a lot in all sectors that would certainly launches Sokoto state to greatness. In the education sector, it declared state of emergency in the sector. In that regard, it built and equipped a Secondary school in Gudu local government area in the capital Balle worth over 1.2 billion naira.

The state government has sponsored 200 qualified indigenes spread across 23 local government areas based on merit in respect of status to India, Ukraine, Ghana and Sudan to study medicine and health related courses free.

In addition, all state indigenes studying in over 48 tertiary institutions are being paid allowances including those studying in the institutions within the state such as Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto State University, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic among others.

The outstanding arrears of workers’ pension amounting to over 1 billion naira was paid, when other states are battling to pay their monthly salaries of their civil servants, the Tambuwal administration has never stopped paying salaries of its workers despite the economic challenges being faced by the entire country.

The Group said Governor Tambuwal was undermining the war on corruption by terminating all corruption cases against cabinet members; this is where their folly manifested the more. This case in question was on-going for over ten years without establishing facts of corruptions against the accused.

That is why the Tambuwal administration view it as a conduit pipe of siphoning huge millions of naira belonging to the government to settle the bills of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and therefore terminated the cases to serve the government funds so that they can be channeled to developmental projects that has direct bearing on the lives of the electorates. Therefore, it is a challenge to the group to come up with concrete proofs of corrupt practices against those individuals.

On the allegation of confiscation of farmland belonging to Barrister Sanyinna and demolition of Professor Bashar’s school, the democratic government has given citizens’ right to challenge any of its decisions in a competent court of law. Why can’t they sue the state government in court, if they believed what was done to them was illegal, considering that fact, Barrister Sanyinna is a legal luminary who rose to the position of Justice Commissioner and Attorney General in the state? Barrister Sanyinna must also provide evidence how he acquire an asset worth 300 million as a former commissioner.

Therefore, to put the records straight, the Sokoto state APC is a one united, indivisible and cohesive family, with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as its leader overwhelmingly supported by the three 3 senators, 11 members of the House of Representatives, 30 state legislators as well as 23 local government councils’ chairmen and their councilors. So, the recent visit of Bola Tinubu Reconciliation Committee is not only a testimony to that, but a clear demonstration of the existing unity, cohesion and indivisibility of the APC under Tambuwal’s administration.

We come to conclude that, APC as a party should take measures against such act of faceless miscreants who are only protecting their personal interest not that of APC.

We the teeming Sokoto State Youth and Students are always in solidarity to the good leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (CFR) (Mutawallen Sakkwato) and that of All Progressive Congress (APC) Sokoto state and Nigeria at large.

    Thank you.

  • From less than 30 to 115: Sokoto boosts enrollment of girls in FGGC Tambuwal

Worried by the apparent lack enough Sokoto indigenes at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Tambuwal, the state government has sponsored 115 girls to begin academic pursuits in the institution.

The admission for the 115 girls was secured under the auspices of the newly-created Agency for Female Education.

Though located in Sokoto State, reports indicate that the number of Sokoto indigenes in the school is less than 30, a situation that warrants government to take drastic action to fill the gap.

Speaking to reporters in Sokoto, Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Girl Child Education, Dr. Amamatu Yusuf, said government acted when it was brought to attention that there were few Sokoto indigenes in the school.

“The Agency for Female Education liaised with the Ministry for Local Government to source for students from the 23 local government areas of the state. We organized an entrance examination for them and the best among them were offered admission.

“To lessen the burden on parents, Governor Tambuwal gave approval that all necessary materials needed for fresh students in the College be provided for the new intakes. We therefore distributed mattresses, school bags, sandals, mosquito nets, blankets, schools wears among others free of charge to support them,” she added.

The Adviser noted that all the girls were admitted into JSS 1 and 2 and SSS 1 and 2.

“We will continue to monitor the progress of the girls. Even though this admission circle is over, next time, we will also ensure that anywhere there is deficit in the number of our girls in any College in the country, we will fill it up without hesitation,” she added.

Governor Tambuwal recently created the Agency for Female Education promote and coordinate all issues related to female education from basic to tertiary levels in the state.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has inaugurated the 80kw solar mini-grid electricity project which will provide uninterrupted power supply to Kurdula community in Gudu Local Government Area.

Malam Imam Imam, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Governor, said this in a statement issued in Sokoto on Sunday.

The statement quoted Tambuwal as saying at the inauguration that more than 500 households made up of 4,000 residents would enjoy enhanced access to electricity supply.

“Today’s event marks the beginning of a great collaborative effort toward ensuring sustainable growth through renewable energy sector development.

“It has now become absolutely necessary to take advantage of the ongoing renewable energy effort to ensure self-sufficiency in energy for economic development.

“Mini grid powered by renewable sources is the best option for us to expand electricity access in the rural areas where the national grid is not available,” the statement quoted Tambuwal as saying.

He added that his administration will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to expand areas of cooperation for the benefit of the citizenry.

Tambuwal, however, urged community leaders and residents to ensure adequate security for equipment.

He said the project was a key component of his administration’s rural development initiative being co-funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the German International Development Agency.

The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Dietmar Kreusel, had expressed optimism that the introduction of solar mini grid would expand access to electricity not just in Kurdula, but in other areas of the country.

The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Ketil Karlsen, said that over 1.5 billion people globally lacked access to electricity.

He also noted that many Nigerians do not have access to cheap, affordable and steady electricity.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Alhaji Sulaiman Zarma, said the Federal Government was ready to work with partners on energy solutions.

He said the Kurdula mini grid electricity project was one of the six currently supported by Nigerian Energy Support Programme in six states of the federation.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has expressed sadness over the demise of second republic Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita who died at the age of 85.

In a statement, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, the Speaker described the late elder statesman as a man of outstanding character and a committed Democrat, who devoted his life to working for the development of democracy in Nigeria.

While noting the exploits and positive contributions of the late Alhaji Kaita as a member of Constituent Assembly that midwifed Nigeria’s Constitution and Governor of old Kaduna State, Dogara said he will continue to be remembered for his selfless service, patriotism and abiding faith in the unity and progress of the country.

” Alhaji Lawal Kaita was a very courageous man who left a legacy of service and built bridges of friendship and unity across the north and the country in general”.

“He will continue to be honoured and remembered by present and future generations for his dedication to the service of his people during his tenure as a Governor and even after”.

” Painful as his death is, we are however consoled with the fact that Alhaji Kaita left an indelible footprint and legacy of service to the society as well as commitment to the ideals of democracy and nationhood “.

While condoling with the bereaved family, the government and people of Katsina state, Speaker Dogara prayed God Almighty to grant the deceased eternal rest.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has also condoled with the government and people of Kaduna State over the passing of Kaita.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Imam Imam, the governor said Mr. Kaita made invaluable contributions to the development of the country.

“He was an acclaimed pacesetter who, along with other patriotic Nigerians of his generation, fought for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria at the turn of the century. His life is an example in dedication and commitment to democratic norms and values.

“Nigeria will remember the deceased as a man who gave his best years towards the development of multi-party politics. His contributions have enriched governance process at state and federal levels,” he added.

While praying to Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the loss, Mr. Tambuwal appealed to both the Kaduna and Katsina state governments to immortalise the deceased for the benefit of future generation.

Similarly, a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, described the late Mr. Kaita, as a fearless democrat whose immense contribution to Nigeria’s democratic struggles would be etched in brass.

Reacting to the demise of Kaita at 85, the former vice president said Mr. Kaita, who was his political associate, was a man of remarkable virtues who inspired whoever interacted with him.

According to Mr. Abubakar, few Nigerian politicians have the courage to disagree with the people in power in order to sustain political patronage for survival.

He explained that the late Mr. Kaita was never afraid to speak his mind in pursuit of his principles, including his insistence that political parties must respect internal democracy in order to be credible.

He noted that the late Mr. Kaita had left an unblemished public service record because politicians of his generation were motivated by the passion for service.

He recalled that his close association with Mr. Kaita was a beneficial experience because he was a man of vast knowledge of politics and intricacies.

President Muhammad Buhari had earlier expressed his condolence in a similar message.

In his reaction, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai described Mr. Kaita as “a quintessential leader and patriot”.

Mr. El-Rufai in a condolence message issued by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, said the deceased had exhibited courage in leadership and patriotism in all his political engagements during his life time.

“Alhaji Lawal Kaita was a quintessential and courageous leader who served the old Kaduna State with dedication and commitment in the course of his leadership in 1983.

“As an elected governor of the old Kaduna State, he contributed immensely to the development, unity and progress of the old Kaduna state.

“Alhaji Kaita was a patriot and a role model for present and future leaders.’’

Also, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) said it received the news of the death of Mr. Kaita, one of its foundation members, with shock; adding that the deceased was a bridge-builder.

“Nigeria has lost one of its illustrious elder statesmen, a bridge builder and democrat.

“Late Kaita will be remembered for his humility, commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

“May Allah grant his soul eternal peace in Aljanna Firdaus,’’ the ACF said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim.

  • Hand over federal roads to states for efficient management, Tambuwal tells FG

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has appealed to the Federal Government to hand over federal roads in the country to state governments for effective management.

He made the appeal when he received the Senate Committee on Works led by its Chairman, Kabiru Gaya, at the Government House in Sokoto late Monday night.

“There is the need for the federal government to hand over the roads to states because state governments are closer to the people and we have more efficient methods of supervision. If this is done, it will go a long way in ensuring that the vast majority of major roads and highways in the country are well maintained,” he said.

Mr. Tambuwal said Sokoto state government will continue to work with all those involved to ensure that the infrastructural development of Nigeria is given utmost attention.

  • Alleged Pardon: ‘Tambuwal acted to stop past injustice,’ says official

Alleged Pardon: ‘Tambuwal acted to stop past injustice,’ says official

Top government officials have accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of deliberate falsehood and smear campaign to malign the integrity of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
The anti-graft body last week said it had challenged the power of Tambuwal to ‘pardon’ five persons standing trial for corrupt practices in offences allegedly committed during the regime of former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa who ruled between 1999 and 2007.
The defendants include two serving commissioners, Tukur Alkali and Isa Achida. Others are the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi; the member representing Isa constituency at the House of Assembly, Alhaji Habibu Modachi; and a Permanent Secretary, Isah Bello.
They were all arraigned in 2009, two years after the end of Bafarawa’s tenure, over an alleged N15bn fraud. The former Governor is also a defendant in the case.
A top official in the state ministry of justice told reporters that EFCC was ‘economical with the truth’ when sending out a post on its Facebook page on the issue.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorised to speak to the press on the issue, said the foundation of the case was more or less politically-motivated, and Tambuwal only interfered in it to right a wrong committed by the last regime of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
“The EFCC will do itself a lot of good if it weans itself of politically-motivated cases in order to boost its reputation and enhance the credibility of the fight against corruption in the country.
“This case was filed in the first instance because Wamakko fought tooth and nail to ensure that leading lights of the Bafarawa regime were prosecuted at all cost.
“A commission of enquiry, under the leadership of Aminu Ahmad was set up which indicted the said persons. Many issues were raised about the procedure adopted by the commission. Upon their indictment, the EFCC filed charges in court against the persons based on the commission’s report and the white paper issued by the government.
“But two years ago, after waiting for eight years to quash the adoption of the commission’s report through legal means failed due to delays in court, the persons wrote to the new administration calling for a review of their indictment. The state government, based on the strong case they had, reviewed the work of the commission of inquiry and discovered some errors in arriving at its final decision. The government then reached a conclusion that the report was not fair to some of the persons and eventually quashed the indictment in the spirit of justice and fairness.
“Quashing of the indictment has nothing to do with the EFCC’s case in court. It was the natural thing to do since those indicting have a strong case of not given a fair hearing in the first instance.
“Seeing that the foundation upon which the EFCC based its case against them was faulty and was eventually quashed by the government, the defendants approached the court with the new document issued by the government, and Justice Abass Bello discharged them and advised EFCC to base its case on other things if it hopes to continue with the prosecution of same people on same matter.
