My security did not shot any resident – Tambuwal

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has refuted reports that a policeman attached to his convoy shot to death one Abdulrahman Aminu after the Nigeria at 60 special Jumu’at prayer in Sokoto.

The denial was made in a statement signed by Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Muhammad Bello and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

Tambuwal described the incident which claimed the life of Aminu of Galadanci quarters in Sokoto metropolis and resulted in three other persons sustaining injuries as “unfortunate, inhuman and condemnable.”

The Governor said that he along with the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Ka’oje, had condoled the family of the victim of the Friday-shooting which occurred at Sultan Bello mosque in the state capital.

Tambuwal assured the family of the deceased that the state government would live no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrator is brought to book as the matter was being investigated by the state Police Command.

According to him, so far the state Police Commissioner had briefed him that Sergeant Bello is in protective custody pending the outcome of a broader investigation.

He added that the state government would not leave the police alone in the investigation, adding that all relevant security agents would also be involved.

Tambuwal said that anybody found wanting would face the full wrath of the law.

He prayed to Allah to grant the deceased Aljannatul Firdausi and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

NAN reports that Sultanate Council had also issued a statement pointing out that Aminu’s death was attributed to a stampede caused by volleys of sporadic gunshots released by a police Sergeant Bello Garba attached to the Sultan Palace.

According to the Sultanate Council, Garba had fired the shots to scare some youths who were dragging the sharing of money given to them after the 60th anniversary prayer at Sultan Bello mosque.

NAN also report that the Police Command in Sokoto State, had confirmed the arrest and detention of Garba.

The command said that the Sergeant shot Abdulrahman to death and injured Junaidu Abba, Babangida Muhammad and Awaisu Alti.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, said that the Sergeant, of Counter Terrorism Unit Base 18 Gusau, was attached to Government House Sokoto.

He said that “the policeman unprofessionally fired without reasonable justification at that material time.”

Policeman kills one, injure three others in stampede for Gov. Tambuwal’s free cash

A stampede for the monetary gift doled out by Governor Aminu Tambuwal in Sokoto on Friday has led to tragedy after a policeman shot dead one person.

The policeman also injured three others.

The shooter, a police sergeant, identified as Bello Garba, was promptly arrested by the Sokoto Police Command.

His victims have also been identified.

Bello killed 25-year-old Aminu Abdulrahman and injured Junaidu Abba, Babangida Muhammad and Awaisu Alti, during the incident at Sultan Bello Jumu’at mosque, in Sokoto..

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, said all the victims were evacuated to Specialist Hospital Sokoto.

The injured will be treated, while an autopsy will be carried out on the dead.

Sadiq said victims were said to be sharing money doled out by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal after the Juma’at prayers to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary.

Sadiq said that the Sergeant, of Counter Terrorism Unit Base 18 Gusau, was attached to Government House Sokoto.

He said that “the policeman unprofessionally fired without reasonable justification at that material time.”

”The Sokoto State Police Command condemns in its entirety the unwarranted, uncivil and unprofessional conduct of a Police Sergeant on special duty in the state.

[TNG Analysis] Edo 2020: Positive vibes for Obaseki as Wike, Tambuwal, Okowa others lead PDP campaign train

    …Oshiomhole’s pleas hit rock
…Oba of Benin warns ambitious guber aspirants
…as Ekpoma monarch asks Oshiomhole to come back after guber polls in September
    By Emman Ovuakporie
The campaigns in Edo State are in top gear as Godwin Obaseki gets positive vibes from the three Senatorial Districts of the heart beat of the nation.
TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) in this analysis takes a peep as to how the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the major opposition party in Nigeria have fared so far.
Obaseki and his party in the last one week showcased that the reign of the APC is at the verge of going extinct in a state it once controlled for more than a decade.
While the Adams Oshiomhole led campaign has been receiving negative vibes, the Obaseki camp led by the most vocal Governor in Nigeria, Nyesom Wike has been receiving positive vibration.
Wike without mincing words has told Edo electorates that the election was a foregone conclusion as Obaseki has no opponent.
In 2016, Oshiomhole had properly de-marketed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu with all manners of unprintable graffiti.
In Edo State you can conveniently call Edolites names but that of a doubtful character is always seen as a taboo.
Oshiomhole had used such words to describe the person he now campaigns for barely four years after.
This singular development has made it almost a walk over for Obaseki who has remained steadfast as the campaign progresses.
His deputy Comrade Phillip Shaibu too has been on the prowl telling Edolites that the state will be turned into rubbles if the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, wins the forthcoming election.

Shaibu said Edo had witnessed a lot of institutional growth where the government was supreme and not an individual but the victory of Ize-Iyamu and his godparents would change all that.

Oshiomhole has been receiving very uncomfortable signals as some monarchs are already asking him to visit only after the guber polls in September a clear indication that he has been rejected.

A monarch he sent packing few weeks from his departure from Dennis Osadebey Government House simply advised him to come back after September 19.

His pleas fell on deaf ears in Edo Central that he massively marginalised for 8years as Governor.

Edo Central arguably has the highest number of professors in Edo State scattered all over the world but while as a governor, the District was thrown into archival dustbin.

It’s pay back time and the Esan people are waiting for the former comrade governor to preach the one man one vote mantra.

    …Police deploy 1,000 officials

No fewer than 1000 police personnel, including plain clothed officials, have been deployed by the Sokoto Police command across Sokoto ahead of Monday’s Supreme Court ruling on the appeal by the Sokoto state governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Sokoto on the 2019 general and rerun .

” We will leave no stone upturned in keeping the State safe and secure , for all the law abiding residents to conduct their lawful businesses,” the Police boss assured.

He vowed the strategy would be maintained until further notice , in line with the recent directive issued by the Inspector General of Police ( IGP), on a 24-hour, nationwide red alert .

He further expressed delight that zero-violence was witnessed during last Friday’s Congregational prayers across the state .

” The massive deployment of our officers and men has by the special grace of God, paid off and we will not relent in our efforts .

” This is to ward off any unpatriotic persons from breaching the peace, as well as the unrepentant criminals ,” the CP, added .

Sokoto had dragged Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) before the Supreme Court over his reelection.

He challenged the judgements of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and that of the Appeal Court that all dismissed his petitions, for lack of merit.

Supreme Court Ruling: Tambuwal hails Atiku, urges Buhari to be magnanimous in victory

Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Thursday commended the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar for diligently towing democratic path in challenging the outcome of the election in which President Muhammadu Buhari was declared winner.

The Governor in a statement he personally signed on Thursday also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be magnanimous in victory.

S/COURT JUDGEMENT: TAMBUWAL SALUTES ATIKU’S DOGGEDNESS, TENACITY

……URGES BUHARI TO BE MAGNANIMOUS IN VICTORY

The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the appeal filed by the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, GCON challenging the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The verdict of the Supreme Court brought to a conclusion the long drawn legal battle. I want to specially commend Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for his doggedness, tenacity and strong belief in the judicial process. His stance has contributed in no small measure in advancing our democracy. He is without doubt an icon of democracy. His place in Nigeria’s democratic journey is assured.

I urge our party members not to be dismayed. The legal way has a terminal stage. The verdict of the Supreme Court is final. In politics you win some, you lose some. Since our dear presidential candidate chose the legal way, it is a clear indication of the fact that he is not a supporter of resort to self – help, or violence, after all power comes from God and He alone gives it to whom He wishes at His own time and on His own terms.

To President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), I congratulate him on his victory and urge him to be magnanimous. Rather than encourage his supporters to engage in wild jubilations, this is a time for circumspection and rallying of Nigerians for the arduous task of tackling our huge developmental challenges. This is a time for Mr. President to run an inclusive government and strive to forge a true Nigerian nation and spirit.
