    The 2019 Sokoto All Progressives Congress(APC) gubernatorial and rerun election candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and the party have formally filed a Notice of Appeal at the Gubernatorial Elections Petitions Tribunal, which sat in Sokoto.

    The Tribunal had penultimate week,in Abuja, dismissed the petition brought before it by Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu and the APC, upholding the election of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

    With Wednesday’s development, Aliyu and the Party are contesting the Judgment of the Lower Court at the Court of Appeal, Sokoto.

    Tambuwal swears in 40 Special Advisers

    No fewer than 40 Special Advisers, including four women, were on Friday sworn in by Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

    He called on them to brace up by giving useful and human- oriented advice for the development of the state.

    The governor urged the appointees to consider their appointments as a call for serve humanity with commitment.

    Tambuwal spoke while administering the oath of office on the newly appointed advisers at the International Conference Centre, Sokoto.

    According to him: ” We all owe the state a duty to advance it’s course to prosperity.

    ” Therefore, we have to join hands to make our state a shining example.

    “This government will continue to ensure the spread of development and well being of all and sundry through responsive service delivery across the state.”

    Banditry will soon end in Sokoto -Tambuwal

    Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday restated his administration’s commitment towards ending banditry in the state.

    Tambuwal spoke on Tuesday when he hosted the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8th Division Nigeria Army, Sokoto, Brig. Gen. Aminu Bande who paid him a courtesy visit.

    He said that negotiations are ongoing between government and the bandits to address banditry in the state.

    “God willing, the acts of banditry being perpetrated in Sokoto State will soon be nipped in the bud.

    “Our ongoing negotiations with bandits is yielding good result, as the menace is generally reduced across the affected areas in the state,” Tambuwal said.

    The governor assured the Acting GOC of government’s continuous support and cooperation with security agencies for effective discharge of their duties.

    Tambuwal expressed optimism that the Acting GOC’s vast experience would come handy in finding lasting solution to the current security challenges confronting the zone.

    Earlier, Bande assured the governor of the division’s resolve to end kidnapping, cattle rustling, and banditry in the zone.

    He thanked the state government for its support to the Nigerian Army as a result of which the 8th Division became a reality.

  • JUST IN: Tribunal orders Tambuwal, PDP to present all witnesses Wednesday

    The 2019 Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto has ordered the 2nd and 3rd Respondents, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to present all their witnesses in Court on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
    The tribunal’s decision was reached at its sitting Tuesday and was sequel to an application for adjournment to July 31, 2019, by the Lead Counsel of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Barrister Emmanuel Ukala, SAN.
    The adjournment was sought by Ukala to enable him to continue with the presentation of his witnesses, just after presenting three weak witnesses on subpoena.
    However, the 2nd and 3rd Respondents had earlier at the pre-hearing proceedings of the Tribunal told the Court that they have 42 and 33 witnesses respectively to present before the tribunal.
    Penultimate week, the 1st Respondent, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had failed to present the twelve witnesses it earlier claimed to have.
    The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Abdullahi Bawale, had vehemently objected to Ukala’s application for adjournment, insisting that, the 2nd Respondent must present all his witnesses to the Court Wednesday.
    The Lead Counsel for the 3rd Respondent, Aare Akinmuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, could not present any witness as ordered by the Tribunal.
    He said, “we were just waiting to see where the 2nd Respondent would stop, then we take from there.”
    The Lead Counsel for the Petitioners, Dr Alex Izinyon , SAN, had also strongly objected to the application for an adjournment by the 2nd Respondent.
    Ukala had earlier tendered some documents to the Tribunal, from the Bar and they were admitted as “Identifications -IDs,” by the Court.
    Izinyon also objected to the development, saying, “we object to doing this, although we reserve our objection.”
    They include the results for Labe-Labe Primary School Polling Unit, Bashire / Maikada ward, in Tambuwal Local Government, Randa-Randa Polling Unit, Fura Girke ward, Tureta Local Government and Shiyyar Noma polling unit, Shinaka ward of Goronyo Local Government.
    The Court, however, ordered that photocopies of the documents be made in the Court, while the originals should be returned to INEC, for the safety of the documents, as prayed by Alhassan Umar, Counsel to the 1st Respondent, INEC.
    The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadeeq Musa, represented by an Administrative Officer, Bashir Ahmed Tahir, had earlier been subpoenaed by the Tribunal, where he tendered some documents before the Tribunal.
    The documents include Forms EC8 A and Forms EC8 B from some polling units in Tambuwal, Goronyo, Tureta and Wurno Local Governments.
    They were the original results sheets and the summary of the same polling units.

  • Bandits attack: Tambuwal warns against harassing, killing innocent Fulanis

    Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Friday cautioned local vigilantes against harrassment and killing of innocent Fulani over bandits attacks in the state.
    The governor gave the warning while commiserating with families of the 29 people killed by bandits in Kamitau, Malafaru and Ololi communities in Shinaka District of Goronyo Local Government Area.
    Tambuwal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending all forms of banditry across the state.
    He described bandits attacks on innocent people as wicked, but said it was no justification for local vigilantes and civilian JTF to also target innocent Fulani people.
    He assured that state government in collaboration with security agencies were making efforts to finding lasting solution to the menace.
    The governor prayed to Allah for forgiveness of the deceased persons and called on the bandits to drop their guns and embrace dialogue for the prevalence of peace and stability in the state.
    Tambuwal disclosed that a window of discussion had been opened with leaders of the bandits and assured that by the grace of God, lasting peace would prevail in the state.
    He expressed gratitude to district heads and other community leaders in the state for their sustained support to the government and urged them to remain calm as government was making efforts to stem the incident.
    Responding on behalf of the families of the deceased persons, the District Head of Goronyo, Alhaji Sambo Usman, thanked the governor for the condolence visit and prayed Allah to reward him abundantly.
    Usman told the governor that they had since embarked on public enlightenment on the importance of peaceful co-existence.
    The monarch urged various communities to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the state and country as a whole.
    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was accompanied to the condolence visit by the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Maniru Daniya and other government officials.
    NAN report that the incident occured on Thursday as hundred of bandits on motorcycles raided the communities firing guns indiscriminatly on residents.
    A source in the area told newsmen that the assailants arrived the villages at night, armed with sophisticated weapons and started shooting sporadically.
    He explained that they killed villagers and destroyed houses and other property.
    According to him, many people have fled their homes to seek refuge in nearby communities within Goronyo and Isa local government areas of the state.
    Earlier, Mr Muhammad Sadiq, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Sokoto state command, confirmed the incident but could no provide the casualty figure of and places affected.

    …celebrates birthday with physically challenged persons
    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some governors elected on its platform; Govs. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Emeka Ihedioha of Imo and Godwin Obaseki of Edo were among dignitaries that joined Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Monday, as he marked his 60th birthday in Asaba.
    The party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus was also present to felicitate with Okowa.
    Okowa, to mark the day, had decided to celebrate with the physically-challenged persons in the state.
    The governors and other dignitaries who came to felicitate with Okowa, poured encomiums on him, describing him as unique, humble, focused and patient.
    Tambuwal said, ” Okowa will remain the humble servant of the people, a good husband and a father, a gentleman, very honest and unassuming.
    “I congratulate the people of Delta for having him as Governor for a second term.
    “His decision to celebrate the birthday with people with disabilities is in his character of giving hope to the hopeless.”
    On his part, Ihedioha said: “Gov. Okowa is calm to a fault, but you can only underestimate him to your own peril.
    ”He is also a very humble man and we commend him for celebrating his birthday with people with disabilities.”
    Obaseki said that Okowa’s achievements date back to his days as a student of the Edo College, Benin City.
    Mr James Ibori, a former Delta governor, described Okowa as a prayerful personality who believed that he could not record success without God.
    “I congratulate you Okowa; I thank God for your life; I thank God for your humility and we pray God will continue to uplift you because, I do know that you do everything with a clear conscience,” Ibori said.
    Responding, Okowa thanked the dignitaries for making it a pleasant surprise.
    He said that his intention was to celebrate the birthday solely with people living with disabilities
    “I want to thank God for keeping me alive; my mother died at 43 and growing up to attain 60, I thank God,” the governor said.
    While thanking his wife, Dame Edith and his children, he said that the decision to celebrate his 60th birthday with people with disabilities was to reassure them of his administration’s resolve to continue to pay special attention to their affairs.

    Tambuwal buries 25 persons killed in fresh bandits attack

    Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal on Sunday attended the funeral of 25 persons killed by bandits in a fresh attack which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah local government area of the state.

    Tambuwal, together with heads of security agencies, traditional rulers and government officials later condoled the families of the victims after the burial held at Gandi town.

    The bandits who were in large numbers raided Kalhu, Tsage and Geeri villages near Gandi and killed the 25 persons.

    The attackers were said to have engaged in indiscriminate shooting from around 5pm on Saturday till Sunday morning, after which they carted away hundreds of cows, sheep and other valuables.

    Rabah has been experiencing bandits’ attacks in recent time, with people losing their lives while many others who were rendered homeless now taking refuge at an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Gandi.

    Tambuwal pledged that the government would take more measures “to end such uncivilized and barbaric attacks”, and urged community members to assist security agencies with useful information to track the bandits.

    Speaking to newsmen, Sokoto state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Kaoje, said four persons including a woman informant who pretended to be a lunatic were arrested.

    Kaoje said that a joint security operation was in progress to contain banditry and other crimes in the state.

    The state Chairman, IDPs’ Welfare Committee, Malam Lawal Maidoki said relief materials had been delivered to the victims.

    NAN reports that with the present 25 killed in the latest attack, the total number of persons killed by bandits in Sokoto state has risen to 108 from 2018 to date.

    Other places affected by armed bandits’ attacks were Dalijan, Rakkoni and Tabanni communities within the period.

    Sokoto guber: Tribunal grants APC leave to serve Tambuwal through substituted means

    The Governorship and National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto has granted Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, leave to serve Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, through substituted means.

    The tribunal Chairman, Justice Abbas Bawale Abdullahi, Thursday granted the prayers made by Lead Petitioners’ Counsel, Mr. Steve Nwoke, noting that the tribunal had carefully perused the applications and they have merits.

    Abdullahi granted the petitioners’ leave to physically inspect materials used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the conduct of main governorship election and re-run election, photocopy some of them, as well as obtain true certified copies.

    The court granted the leave as prayed by the Counsels of the Applicants led by Barrister Steve Nwoke, as it has been difficult to physically serve Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal his copy of the petition filed by the Applicants, challenging the outcome of the March 9, 2019 and March 23, 2019, rerun Governorship polls in the state .

    The Court therefore granted the prayer of the Applicants to allow them to serve Governor Tambuwal the petition, through the State Legal Adviser of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    In the same vein, , the Court has granted another leave to the Applicants to inspect the election materials like ballot papers, forms and card readers, used by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, during the elections .

    Meanwhile, Justice Abdullahi also granted Governor Tambuwal and his party, PDP, to inspect same materials, as well as invite forensic experts to conduct physical inspection of materials used for the elections and obtain true certified copies of documents.

    Justice Abdullahi further granted the applicants’ prayers moved by their Lead Counsel, Barrister Muktar Mahmuda Yabo and the acceptance of the outcome of the physical inspection, statistics sought by forensic experts, among others.

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC), Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2019 General Elections, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, as well as the Party, had filed a Petition before the Tribunal, challenging the outcome of the polls in which Governor Aminu Waziiri Tambuwal of the PDP had been declared as the purported winner by INEC.

    All efforts to physically serve him with the copy of the petition has been difficult as he was said to have been evasive.

    Former Speakers of the House of Representatives Hon. Patricia Ethe, and Hon. Aminu Tambuwal as well as former Deputy Speakers Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and Hon.Babangida Nguroje on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to the forthrightness, dexterity and tactfulness of the late President of Pan-African Parliament Hon. Bethel Amadi who died recently.
    Amadi a former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives in the 6th National Assembly who eventually became the President of the Pan- African Parliament had died in Abuja after a protracted ailment that kept him from the public glare for a long time.
    He won election into the House in 2003 and also won re-election for two more consecutive terms which paved way for him to be elected to the office of the Chief Whip of the House in 2011 after which he contested and won election as President of the continental parliament.
    At a valedictory session of the House held in his honour, former speakers of the House Hon. Patricia Ethe and Hon. Aminu Tambuwal eulogised the departed lawmaker for his steadfastness, dexterity and forthrightness saying that he was very dedicated to his duties.
    While Ethe mourned the late lawmaker she said that she is consoled that he was a hardworking, loyal and committed former lawmaker who was also a good legislator.
    On his own part, Tambuwal said that his path crossed with the late lawmaker when they were inaugurated in June 2003 as members of the House.He added that they worked together in many standing committees of the House and described him as a patriotic and dedicated lawmaker.
    Also in their separate tributes former Deputy Speaker of the House and gorvernor-elect of Imo State Hon. Emeka Ihedioha said that for all intents and purposes, the late lawmaker was wonderful personality.
    He promised to ensure that the lawmaker is immortalized by the yet to be inaugurated Imo State Govermnet which comes on stream when he would be sworn in as governor on May 29, 2019.
    Also in his remarks, Speaker of the House Hon. Yakubu Dogara said that the late lawmaker had touched many lives positively and had worked effectively during his short sojourn on earth.
    Other ex-lawmakers including former Minority Whip Hon Samson Osagie and some seving lawmakers notably Hon. Jones Onyeriri, (IMO, PDP) and Hon.Jerry Alagbaso also described their late former colleague as a forthright lawmaker who excelled in all his endeavours.
  • Atiku congratulates Tambuwal, Ortom on re-election

    The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, says the victory of the candidates of the PDP in both Sokoto and Benue states is an acknowledgement from Nigerians that the PDP is the only truly national party in the country.

    Atiku, in his congratulatory message to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on his re-election, assured the people of the state that they had made the right decision that would see them continue on the path of peace, progress and prosperity.

    He also congratulated Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over “his very well-deserved re-election.”

    “Ortom is not just a credit to the PDP, he is also an epitome of servant leadership, which all and sundry should emulate. With him again at the helm of affairs in Benue, the people of the Food Basket of the Nation can look forward to á refreshing time,” Atiku said.

    He hailed the PDP governorship candidates in Bauchi and Kano states, Bala Mohammed and Abba Yusuf, respectively, who he said had made great showing in both states

    He said, “Victory is within reach. They have shown that they are men of the people and we are convinced that much good will come out of these men of enviable talents and leadership ability.”

    He also congratulated the PDP and all its members, saying the party was the true bastion of democracy and should be encouraged by the victories.
