  • Chelsea’s Abraham hits hat-trick in win over Wolves

Chelsea’s Abraham hits hat-trick in win over Wolves

Tammy Abraham scored a brilliant hat-trick – and an own goal – as Chelsea destroyed Wolves at Molineux.

The England forward scored twice in the space of seven first-half minutes after Fikayo Tomori – another 21-year-old – had opened the scoring with a stunning 25-yard finish.

Abraham, who spent last season on loan in the Championship with Aston Villa, doubled the lead with a shot on the turn after referee Graham Scott had played an advantage following Conor Coady’s foul on Mason Mount.

Wolves, who remain without a top-flight win this season, fell further behind when Abraham headed home, before the Chelsea striker made it 4-0 with a superb finish after beating Coady – a seventh league goal of the season that took him to the top of the scoring charts.

In an eventful game, Abraham then scored an own goal as Romain Saiss’ header struck his right hand before crossing the line, before Patrick Cutrone added a second Wolves goal from close range.

Mason Mount, 20, added Chelsea’s fifth goal with virtually the last kick of the game.

  • Abraham’s mother ‘in tears’ over racist abuse

Abraham’s mother ‘in tears’ over racist abuse

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham says his mother was left in tears after he received racist abuse online.

The 21-year-old was targeted on social media last month after missing the decisive penalty in the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Abraham issued a defiant response after the match, vowing to “silence the haters”, but has admitted his mother was affected by the abuse.

“I remember speaking to my mum, she was emotional, she was in tears,” Abraham told CNN.

“You know, she’s just thinking: ‘Why him? Why him?’ It’s obviously not nice to hear, especially seeing your son getting abused.

“For me, I’m always a strong character, it doesn’t affect me as much.

“But saying that, it could affect people who don’t have my personality. It was a challenging moment for me, I went through a lot of emotions.

“Everyone misses penalties but to miss a penalty I was obviously devastated.”

  • Friendly: Abraham, Barkley score as Chelsea defeat Barca

Goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley gave Frank Lampard’s Chelsea an impressive 2-1 win against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly in Japan.

Abraham opened the scoring with a neat first-half finish after rounding the goalkeeper and substitute Barkley curled in a second late on.
Ivan Rakitic struck in injury time for Barcelona with powerful drive.
The game saw £107m signing Antoine Griezmann make his debut for the Spanish giants.
The former Atletico Madrid striker showed some good touches and linked up well with Ousmane Dembele, who is reportedly set to leave Barcelona this summer, but never really troubled Kepa in the Chelsea goal.

  • I’m loyal to England, not Nigeria – Abraham clears air

England under-21 striker Tammy Abraham has denied reports he is set to switch international allegiance to Nigeria in a bid to feature in next year’s World Cup.

According to British media reports, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been keen on recruiting London-born Abraham, who remains eligible for the African nation through his parents.

“I have informed the FA that I remain available for selection for England,’’ Swansea player Abraham said in a statement.

“Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

“I can confirm I met the President of the NFF (Amaju Pinnick) after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday, given (that) he is a friend of my father.”

Chelsea’s 19-year-old Abraham is currently on a season-long loan at Swansea City seeking regular first-team opportunities.
