Recruitment: FRSC raises alarm over fake LinkedIn account

Corps Commander Selina Williams, the Taraba Sector Commander of FRSC, on Sunday alerted the state residents of a fake LinkedIn account circulating over the corps’ ongoing recruitment process.

Williams, who disclosed this in a statement in Jalingo, explained that the alert became necessary following the wide circulation of the fake account with the name of Corps Marshal Dauda Biu.

According to her, the fake LinkedIn account has the WhatsApp number  07069777732 and is intended to defraud innocent members of the public under the guise of offering them employment.

Williams advised interested applicants to visit FRSC verified portal: www.recruitment.frsc.gov.ng where the application does not attract any fee.

“FRSC recruitment process is on and there is a fake LinkedIn account operating on whatsapp number: 07069777732 under the name of Corps Marshal Dauda  Biu with the intent to defraud innocent members of the public on the guise of offering them employment.

“I enjoin prospective applicants or members of the public in Taraba to be wary of such fake account and disregard it,” she said.

Williams also noted that the corps, in synergy with sister security agencies in the state, had put in place strategies for a hitch free Eld-el-Fitr 2023 celebration.

She noted that FRSC was committed to guaranteeing Taraba people a safe motoring environment during and after Sallah periods.

Williams appealed to motorists to cooperate with the corps by obeying traffic laws and regulations such as properly fixing and servicing their vehicles meant for long trips to prevent unnecessary breakdown on the road.

  • Taraba APC dismisses Jimkuta’s suspension, passes vote of confidence in Senator-elect

Taraba APC dismisses Jimkuta’s suspension, passes vote of confidence in Senator-elect

The Takum Local Government chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has passed a vote of confidence the Senator-elect, Taraba South Senatorial District of Taraba, Emmanuel Jimkuta.

Chairman of the party in the local government, Alhaji Mijinyawa Salihu, passed the resolution on Monday in Jalingo.

Salihu said that the party did not have factional executives in the local government.

He accused those who had earlier announced the suspension of the senator-elect as non-APC members “who were hired for such a dirty assignment.

“We just want to respond to the purported expulsion of our senator-elect, Hon. David Jimkuta, by a group of people parading themselves as the executives of the party in Takum local government area.

“We members of the executives of APC in Takum local government area wish to state that there is no factional executive of the party in our local government and we remain the only executives.

“We equally want to put it on record that the group that signed the purported expulsion of our senator-elect are not members of APC in Takum local government,” he said.

Salihu described the masterminds of the purported expulsion as the “mercenaries recruited from an opposition party” by some aggrieved members who lost out at the primaries.

“I wish to state, in a very clear and loud voice, that we, the executives of APC in Takum local government, have passed a vote of confidence in our senator-elect, Hon. David Jimkuta.

“We also want to put it on record that Jimkuta had worked relentlessly to ensure victory for our party in the just-concluded governorship election.

“His efforts could not, however, yield results because our governorship candidate was not saleable, but was only imposed on the electorate,” he said.

The APC chairman described as laughable allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the senator-elect by the group he referred to as mischief makers.

He said: “What further exposed the group as non-members of APC is their ignorance of the fact that the APC constitution only gave the ward party executives the right to suspend or expel members.

“We urge the general public and party loyalists in the south senatorial zone to disregard the purported expulsion of our senator-elect.

“It is the handiwork of some mischief makers who are bent on destabilising the party on selfish grounds.”

He further said that the senator-elect was already making frantic efforts to reconcile all aggreived party members in the senatorial district.

“We wish to appeal to members of APC across the zone, especially supporters of the senator-elect to remain calm, as things are being sorted out in our interest,” he stated.

A factional executive council of the party in the council area had earlier announced Jimkuta’s expulsion over alleged anti-party activities.

  • Court orders payment of pension arrears to ex-gov Nyame, others

The National Industrial Court, on Tuesday ordered Taraba State Government, to immediately pay former Gov. Jolly Nyame and three others, arrears of their pensions.

The other judgment creditors in the suit are Uba Ahmadu, Abubakar Armayau and Bilkisu Danboyi

The court, in addition, awarded the sum of N500,000 against the state government.

Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae, while delivering judgment, held that the judgment debtors did not contest owing the judgment creditors, having entered and signed an undertaking to pay their pension arrears.

The judge said that the undertaking was signed in order to stop the enforcement of the judgment, when the movable property of the judgment debtors were taken by court officials.

She further held that the judgment debtors submitted same argument and authorities as cited by the garnishee debtor.

The judge therefore stated that there was no merit in their submissions.

Obaseki-Osaghae had earlier in the judgment, addressed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) preliminary objection.

According to the court, the objection raised by the apex bank that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the suit, does not have merit.

CBN in its objection had argued that as an agency of the Federal Government, only a High Court could carry out a garnishee proceeding against it, as provided by Section 251, 1(d) of the 1999 Constitution, and Section 84 of the Sheriff & Civil Process Act, which rule 2 & 3 of the Judgment Enforcement Rule, is attached to.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that a Garnishee proceeding is a judicial process of execution, or enforcement of monetary judgment, by the seizure or attachment of debts due or accruing to the judgment debtor, which form part of his property available in execution.

The court in response, held that the court was not enforcing a Federal High Court judgment, but rather a judgment that was delivered by the same court.

The court equally held that it had the power to enforce monetary judgment through a garnishee proceeding.

The judge also stated that the NICN had the same ranking as any High Court, and its judgment could be enforced in a garnishee proceeding.

In addressing the issue of CBN being a government agency and public officer that needed the approval of the Attorney-General before a garnishee proceeding could be taken against it, the court stated that CBN was not a public officer in the context of Section 84 of Sheriff & Civil Process Act.

The court in conclusion held that the judgment creditors in their counter-affidavit, submitted that the Judgment debtor had its funds with the CBN.

The court therefore pronounced the order of garnishee nisi, made Dec. 2, 2021, absolute, as CBN had not shown cause why it should not be made so.

The judgment creditors had filed the suit against the judgment debtor, the Taraba State Government and CBN, the garnishee debtor, through a garnishee proceeding.

The judgment debtor in response filed an application filed on Jan. 24, seeking for the order of the court to set aside the order nisi, granted in favour of the judgment creditors on Dec. 2, 2021.

An Order Nisi means an order that will ripen or take effect at some set date in the future, unless the order is rescinded by a court before that date.

CBN on its part, had objected to the garnishee proceeding by stating that the court did not have jurisdiction to entertain the proceeding.

The garnishee proceeding emanated from a judgment delivered by the same court on July 12, 2019.

In the judgment, the court had ordered the payment of the sum of N151.1 million, being the unpaid pension arrears of the judgment creditors.

The judgment, which was delivered by Justice Sanusi Kado, was for unpaid pension from May, 2013 to Oct. 2015.

The court, in the said judgment, had ordered 10 equal instalment payment, commencing from July 2019, on a monthly basis until the final liquidation of the total sum.

The judgment creditors were paid the sum of N16.3 million as first instalment, but were never paid again until the expiration of the instalments plan in Nov. 2021.

The judgment creditors, who were former employees of the judgment debtor upon retirement, were paid the sum of N45 million out of their total pension arrears of N196 million.

  • Cholera cases in Cross River, Taraba, others, unacceptable- NCDC

Cholera cases in Cross River, Taraba, others, unacceptable- NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Wednesday, expressed concern over cholera cases in states, with Cross River and Taraba leading.

Ms Jessica Akinrogbe, the Senior Emergency Response Officer, NCDC, made the centre’s position known at the monthly meeting of WASH in Emergency Working Group in Abuja.

She said a total of 1,359 confirmed cases were reported from January 2022 till date.

She added that no fewer than 31 deaths were recorded in 15 states, including Cross River, Taraba, Borno, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Kebbi, Rivers, Ondo and Lagos.

She said “out of these states, Cross River and Taraba had the highest cases of 558 and 282 respectively.’’

Akinrogbe said that the centre had deployed rapid response teams to the states to curtail the spread, adding that with the approaching rainy season, efforts must be geared toward preventing recurrence.

She called on the states to step up their cholera preparedness and response plan and build capacities to manage emergencies.

Mr Olu-Daniels Ibiyemi, the Deputy Director, WASH Response and Collaboration, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, said the Federal Government had started intervention activities in Kano and Katsina states.

He said the two states were also part of the cholera hotspot sites, saying the ministry would continue to support states through advocacy and coordination and urged the states to take responsibility on preparedness and response plan.

Ibiyemi said “it is not the duty of the Federal Government to provide water and sanitation facilities to states, but to give support through advocacy.’’

The deputy director added that efforts were on to follow up states to finalise their cholera preparedness and response plan, saying this would help in mitigation efforts.

The UNICEF Chief of WASH, Ms Jane Bevan, said states required clear coordination and response plans to manage emergency situations, “so that
when emergencies happen, they can quickly see who needed to be contacted, what responses to be given in terms of clean water.

“This also include actions to be taken to sensitise people on safe water use and hygiene behaviours to minimise spread of the outbreak’’.

Bevan added that it was impressive to see that the Federal Government had taken responsibility of coordination with the establishment of WASH in emergency working group.

Mr Rangaiya Kanaganathan, the Head of Department, WASH, Action Against Hunger, said the organisation had strengthened coordination with the National Cholera Technical Working Group.

He said such coordination ensured the training of volunteers, health workers on cholera response in focal states of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano and Sokoto states.

He added that “18 cholera kits were distributed to hotspot local government areas, while 5,813 households received water treatment chemicals.

“A total of 107 persons (60 males and 47 females) were trained on hygiene and sanitation promotion, water quality monitoring, water schemes operation and maintenance, while 40 water points were chlorinated.’’
