We know Onana not good enough – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he’s aware Andre Onana has not met expectations so far this season.

However, Ten Hag will continue to back his new goalkeeper.

He said: “He knows [he’s not been good enough], we know, he will do much better. As with every player who’s coming into the Premier League, you need an integration period but he has to step up. Big United keepers like Peter Schmeichel and David De Gea started [slowly] and Andre knows that it is good to know a little bit from history.

“We live now, we live in the future and he has to make his future by giving better performances. I’m sure he will do. He showed it at Barcelona, Ajax, Inter Milan, he was in the semi-final and the final of the Champions League, I’m sure he will give a great performance.”

On facing Sheffield United tomorrow night, Ten Hag also stated: “You can’t restart, but there is a strong dressing room. They are aligned, determined and willing to win games. That is what we have seen. In the end, we beat them and physically we were very strong, mentally, we kept going and were very strong.”

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is considering dropping Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international is struggling for form and has battled to adapt since his summer arrival from Inter Milan.

ESPN says Ten Hag is now considering withdrawing Onana from the frontline amid concerns over his confidence.

United signed Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in a £4.3m deadline day deal.

And there is now an internal push for Bayindir to be given his chance with Onana wobbling as he is.

Man Utd too big for Ten Hag to handle – Ibrahimovic

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag doesn’t have the experience to handle dressing room egos.

That is what has got former United star Zlatan Ibrahimvoic worried with respect to the club’s trajectory.

Ten Hag, who won the Carabao Cup last season and finished third in the Premier League, is struggling to find a winning formula this term.

Ibra stated, per The Sun: “Coming from Ajax to United as he did is a big difference — I have been in both clubs.

“You have a different kind of discipline.

“Ajax is a talented club. They have the best talents in the club. They don’t have big stars.

“What is the experience of this coach? Young talents, he comes to United, it is a different mentality.

“The players there are supposed to be big stars.

“I don’t think you give the same treatment.

“How much time do you give a coach? It depends on the owners, what they want, but if you listen to the fans, you don’t have a lot of time because they want to win, and I understand them because they are used to winning and they want to still win.”

UCL: Manchester United manager, Ten Hag reacts to Onana’s error

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United manager, has refused to blame goalkeeper, Andre Onana for his error as they lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The gaffer insisted that the team should focus on team play rather than individuals.

Ten Hag, speaking after the game at the Allianz Arena, insisted the focus should be on the team and not individuals.

Visiting Manchester United lost narrowly to the German champions in Munich by 4-3 in this season’s UEFA Champions League opener.

Bayern Munich opened scoring after Onana’s error in the encounter.

Leroy Sane capitalized on Onana’s error to score first in the game before Bayern doubled their lead four minutes later through Serge Gnabry.

Rasmus Hojlund scored his first United goal early in the second half, but Bayern hit back with Harry Kane’s penalty.

Casemiro scored two minutes from time, but substitute Mathys Tel added a fourth for Bayern. There was still time for Casemiro to add another deep in injury time.

Onana apologised after the match for his error but Ten Hag did not want to focus on one particular player as a basis for the loss:

He said: “It is good he is taking responsibility but it is about the team. You have to bounce back as a team and we scored three goals after that.

“The mistakes happen but when they happen they are gone. We must always believe we can bounce back and tonight we showed that belief, we kept going after mistakes and kept believing.”

New Man Utd signing Sofyan Amrabat has revealed similarities with manager Erik ten Hag

The midfielder is delighted playing again for the Dutchman.

The pair worked together at FC Utrecht.

Fiorentina loanee Amrabat said: “It’s fantastic because I think Erik ten Hag is a coach who will push always to the limit.

“He’s hungry. He wants to win. He’s a winner and I like that. I think I’m also similar, I’m also a winner. I want to win every day so it’s a good match.”

Asked for his best qualities, Amrabat added: “I don’t like to speak about myself. I want to show it on the pitch, but I can promise that I will give my best with everything; every day, every minute, every second.

“So, it is the only thing that I can say now.”

Why Man Utd signed Amrabat – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has welcomed new signing Sofyan Amrabat.

The former Fiorentina midfielder’s move wasn’t closed before he could be registered in time for Sunday’s defeat at Arsenal.

After the 3-1 reverse, Ten Hag said: “It was already, from the start of the season, one of my wishes to get another [number] six, a holding midfielder, in the squad because through the season you need that depth there.

“In that position we only had Casemiro who can play really well there. With others we have to make compromises but, with Sofyan Amrabat, we have another one.

“Also he can play alongside Casemiro because he can also play a little bit higher on the pitch. So it’s very good to have him and I think he fits very good to Premier League football, to Champions League football. I think the demands are strong.

“He is very dynamic, he’s very good in the duels. So we are pleased that we have him at United and I think he will contribute to our high targets we set.”

Ten Hag admits left-back signing agenda at Man Utd

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed a new left-back signing is being discussed.

Injuries for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia has left United short of options.

However, Ten Hag insists they do not need a new striker signing: “No. We have seven front players and young talent coming up, as we’ve seen in pre-season, who are getting close.

“Rasmus (Hojlund) will be available from next week onwards. Rasmus, Anthony Martial, we have cover. We have Rashy (Marcus Rashford) as well there. We have enough quality players to cover that position.

“It can be (that United sign a left-back). I think we always have to anticipate on situations. If there are opportunities then yes, but it has to be the right player otherwise we have to deal with the current squad.

“We went through the scenarios before the season and if it happened, we have the solution.”

The Dutch coach has earned rave reviews from United’s best ever manager this week, as the new Premier League season begins.

Ahead of United taking on Wolves, which the Red Devils narrowly won 1-0, Ferguson lavished praise on Ten Hag.

“I think Ten Hag has done a fantastic job.” Ferguson, 81, told NBC Sports.

“He’s grabbed it, he’s brought his own players in – I think that was important – and if he gets the center forward ready quickly, they’ll be a really good side.

“Because that’s what they have really lacked in the last few years – a centre forward.”
